What a sweet little story! Mark Hansun is a courier hired by magicians to take a mysterious egg from the States to England. Seasick and bored, he tries to keep himself entertained until a highly unexpected even comes to break his routine: The egg begins to hatch. Afraid of the unknown creature inside the egg, Mark resorts to the only reliable officer on board, Lieutenant Colin North. Together they begin a watch over the hatching egg, and the time spent together brings about friendship and attraction between them. When it finally emerges, surprise and fear soon changes into a deep bonding feeling between both men and the newly-born creature. But fear for its future obliges them to make a difficult decision, one which threatens to break their hearts and change even their relationship forever.
I am absolutely charmed by this story. It is a short one, but it manages to convey a wide variety of feelings. There is anguish, and there is love. There is magic and adventure and fantastic creatures. There is the despair of separation, and the hope of a new start. The characters are likeable, and what the egg hides… I just loved it. This is the kind of story which will have me coming back for a re-read from time to time, a comfort read which heals souls and leaves a smile on your face. Highly recommendable.

3-3.5

This was quite an interesting and enjoyable read. Set in a fantastical "Earth" where magical beings still exists, this read has an air of historical (18-19 cent) mixed with the mythological and magic.

I liked the characters involved, I liked the story itself, and I liked the plot that was quite credible even as it was a fantasy.

For me it was a great escape from reality and I'd recommend this book to anyone who lives magical mythological beings and a nice, slow paced love story between two formidable men.

At first, it seemed like a simple story to me...and it was. But the underlying comparison. Something "unnatural", the similarities to Kate, it became this deep story. I'm glad that Colin and Mark decided to take that chance. They made an unbelievable hard decision with Kate. So the ending was very hopeful! :) What a very nice read!

Sweet love story

The main character was afraid to love until he hatched an egg and met his first love on a sea voyage. This is a very well written and sweet HE A love story.
