Demon Callan Ambrose wants a soulmate more than anything but is sure he’ll never find his. One of his brothers is mated and soulmates are rare, so the odds are against him. Then he takes a job protecting Lonnie Russell, a creative writing professor who is quirky, and sweet, and just…perfect. But someone is terrorizing Lonnie with threatening notes.
Lonnie has always been able to see the preternaturals in the world and he’s always been fascinated with them. Especially demons. He even has an entire room dedicated to them. So he’s thrilled when his new bodyguard turns out to be one. Callan is big and gruff, his grumpy exterior a mask for someone who’s really a cuddle monster. And the gifts? He sure would like to know what that’s all about.
What started out as vague threats quickly escalates and when they realize what they’re up against, Callan is determined to keep his newfound treasure safe.
Demon is a long MM paranormal romance novella with a grumpy/sunshine pairing, traditional demon courting, and plenty of steam. It’s the third in the Mystic Guardians series, but can be read as a standalone.
I write urban fantasy, paranormal romance and romantic suspense. Okay, and some space opera and post-apocalyptic menage as Dani Worth. I'm a lover of all kinds of romances! Some of mine (so far) are M/F, M/M/F and M/M.
Currently, I'm focusing on M/M romance because that's been my favorite for many years. I finally took the plunge in 2015 along with my good friend and co-writer, Jocelynn Drake. We are releasing long M/M romantic suspense right now (Unbreakable Bonds) and are already planning another series as well--possibly one that combines our love of MM romance with our love of urban fantasy.
I enjoy unusual stories and credit growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and romance kept us amused, especially in some of the stranger places.
I do get questions about the open series out. Beri O'Dell, Crux Survivors, The Kithran Regenesis and The Brothers Bernaux are unfortunately all on hold. That publisher is in the midst of closing so I don't know what will happen with them yet. Also, they weren't selling very well either, but I'm hoping I can self-publish the last of the stories in them at some point for the fantastic fans they do have. I'm sorry for the delay.
I’m represented by Miriam Kriss of the Irene Goodman Agency.
I am really enjoying this series and I think this third one was my favorite so far. Callan is such a sweetie and Lonnie is loveably quirky. This is a true mates, bodyguard/protectee, grumpy/sunshine, demon/human romance. We see characters we’ve met in previous books, and meet some new Guardians. I hope this is going to be a long series and we get all their stories. Even the brief introductions have me fascinated with Emory and Dax and Lake. And we learn more about Xavier and his powers as well.
Lonnie has a stalker so his sister hires him a bodyguard from Protection Solutions. When Lonnie meets Callan and sees that he is a demon he’s thrilled. Lonnie has always been able to see preternatural and he’s always been fascinated by demons particularly. Lonnie is a professor, has ADHD, and is a chatterbox. Pretty much Callan’s opposite. It’s a fun read.
Looking forward to the next book. Hope we don’t have to wait long for Finn’s story!
starts strong but wobbles with the plot and character development
Rating:3🌈
Demon (Mystic Guardians Book 3) by Rinda Elliott is a series that started out strong but has wobbled narratively with each following story.
Details and drama surrounding this couple isn’t clearly defined or well established. And unfortunately the ending is very unsatisfactory.
Which is sad because Demon has the potential to be a good paranormal romance and this couple is extremely engaging.
This series and novel is a fated mates, instant love romance/relationship between a human being who can see preternatural beings and the other beings who’re their fated mate.
Lonnie Russell, a professor of writing, has a scary stalker so his sister, a successful author, has hired the otherworldly agency to supply a bodyguard for him. That bodyguard happens to be the demon, Demon Callan Ambrose, who’s desperate for a mate.
Cute aspects to the story and relationship? Lonnie collects anime figurines, including demons, from his favorite shows and comics. And introduces Callan to anime, a great element which was underutilized.
They were sweet and really had the potential for a better romance here. The author gave Lonnie’s character some serious issues that instead of being addressed were lightly touched on. He has ADHD admittedly, body image issues (although Callan finds him sexy), and a writer’s block that has been around for a while. Then a stalker who has been watching him 24/7 that he didn’t take seriously at first so more than just body image issues. None of this is actually well defined or explored in the storyline or the relationship.
If as a author you don’t have that much page time to authentically talk about the serious elements that you have used to help create a character, then perhaps it better not to use them in this book at all. Save it for a longer novel and different character.
The same lack of development goes for the dramatic element of the story. It comes out of nowhere. No foundation for it.
Spoiler.
But as the villain is, even excluding the main aspect of his character, highly obsessive and delusional, to end this with him able to recover , remaining just as cemented in his delusion, and ready to go forward makes zero sense.
The excuses the head of the agency makes are just as bad. It throws the reader out of any plausible connection that’s remaining to the story and this scenario.
I doubt I’m going forward with any further books in the series.
Too bad because there’s some good things here but nothing is carried through to the any of its full potential.
There are many different kinds of issues I take with this book But the one that I found most egregious was when you wrote a book about a plus size character and avoided calling them a plus size character throughout the entire book with the exception of describing their body as " unfortunate".
The book itself wasn't bad. It's rinse and repeat of the first two. Every single one of the books is the supernatural person absolutely adores their soulmate and the soulmate spends the entire time waffling because how could such a great person care about me?! It's giving low self-esteem. It's giving High School creative writing.
Being the third book in the series the bodyguards are starting to get a bit suspicious about what is happening, what with two coworkers suddenly finding their mates during a job. Callan is most interested in this as he wants to find a mate, but as a demon it is unlikely. He is excited when the human he is sent to guard shows signs of being his mate, but confused as demons aren't supposed to have non-demon mates. Callan is nevertheless happy and his prospective mate, Lonnie, is very happy to meet a real demon and excited to connect with him. It was a sweet story with a great couple at the core.
This was such a cute read! 💕 Lonnie is absolutely lovable—you can’t help but fall for him and want to smack his stalker over the head for scaring him.
When a bodyguard enters the picture, it turns out Lonnie can see Callan’s true form right from the start—something he’s always secretly fantasized about. As the stalker grows bolder, Callan steps up to protect his mate, and the connection between them only deepens.
These two are truly a perfect match, making this story a wonderful blend of sweet, protective, and romantic.
I really loved this book. I like that it was more about building the relationship between Callan and Lonnie and not so much about the stalking... It's nice to actually have two characters wanting to be together without some falsely manufactured angst, and oh my God, the first gift!!!🤣🤣
Awww, I simply adore Callan, and Lonnie is cute as a button. Love seeing deeper into the other characters as the series progresses, too. This world & these characters are so relatable, believable, and likable. Fierce possessive/protective vibes, loyal brothers/family, love the whole thing, and can't wait to follow the others as they find their own loves.
This was a nice gentle read, a fated style romance with a bit of escapism with no violence and a little bit of drama. I loved the anime references and geekiness of the main character, the other mc is the epitome of the strong silent type but with an adorable character.
So good! and Lonnie are the best! Poor Lonnie has a Stalker and when his sister finds out, she hires a Bodyguard who is a Demon . There’s twists and turns, action, some scary stuff, steam and romance . A enjoyable read! So can’t wait for next book!
A grumpy demon who has problems articulating his thoughts turned out to be a winner for this story. Pairing him with Lonnie and English professor with ADHD was clever. The story was fast paced and very sweet. Loved these two
Not as good as the first two, but still a fun romp. They were a sweet couple. Callan was such a big softie and Lonnie was so patient with him. I enjoyed the story and the characters, it just felt like something was missing ?
Oczekiwałam czegoś innego, a dostałam słodką i puszystą serię, która przyjemnie zajęła mi czas przy kawie. Chętnie przeczytam o kolejnych bohaterach mistycznych ochroniarzy, a zwłaszcza o ich szefie 😊
Ok so maybe I should tell you that once I have started a book I don't care about the time I just have to finish the book! With this author I have to say I just can't stop! So I suggest you have the time to finish!!
A demon story at its sweetest. This couples story was cute and adorable and definitely a must read. Highly recommended and looking forward to Finn's book.
