I received this book as an ARC read from Serena Pier and Grey’s Promotions, and this is my honest review of Falling For Red.
So Jake is a fireman and a retired marine (yes, really), and Claire’s a bartender and single mom. Their first date had such fun flirty banter, and I loved that the relationship actually moved — quick succession of dates, nothing dragged out. It was cute and felt real.
Jake. My heart. Golden retriever energy in the BEST way. He cooks, he’s sweet, thoughtful, and just genuinely a good guy. Like, "Who do I have to thank for him being this way?!" 🥰 Their first kiss? 🔥. The chemistry is there, the banter is there, and those little “missions” he gives Claire throughout the book? YES. More of that. And the way he defends her — I melted. Completely.
Now Claire… deep breath. I get that she’s supposed to be guarded, but she really didn’t respect Jake’s boundaries — especially when he was clear about not wanting sex on the first date. He even had to shut her down with a line like, “If you're looking for a toy, then I don't think this is going to work.” Like?? Good for him, but also... yikes. And the constant “red flag this, red flag that” — girl, he’s literally amazing. Just let yourself be happy.
Also, the political angle thrown in? Not my thing at all. If this hadn’t been an ARC, I would’ve DNF’d right then. I read romance to escape, not for a debate.
But honestly? Jake made this book. He’s the kind of protective, golden-retriever book boyfriend I’ll be thinking about for a while. Loved him.
4 stars 💛
