When a vampire asks Nick St. James to investigate his friend’s murder, the answer should have been easy, right? NO. Okay, not so easy. How do you say no to a friend like Felix?

Besides, with Thelma by his side, what could go wrong? She’s got that, umm … cute pink backpack of Voodoo magic. Of course it hurts that she manages to look good even when she accidentally conjures and gets possessed by a drunk loa. No, it won’t be at all distracting to have her along.

Since no good deed goes unpunished, a crazy man with starry eyes jumps out of the shadows at the victim’s apartment and pummels them. Their attacker doesn’t just beat them up but also infects them with some bad mojo that’s killing Thelma and making Nick angry … angrier.

If the trail to the suspect—the Green Man—is any indication, they’ll be killed before the poison finishes the job. The old gods are more dangerous than helpful. The Watchers—even the one who seems to have a brain—are always a hazard. And what’s with the all the minions? Who has minions anymore? Not to mention the rapid progression of the infection that quickly upgrades Nick’s condition to ‘blind-rage-filled.’

Why couldn’t Felix have just asked Nick to help him move?

Brian Freyermuth is the design director and VO director at Steel Wool Studios and author of the Sundancer Mysteries. His recent game Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach won the Playstation Player’s Choice Award in December 2021.

He wants two things for his characters: hope and meaning. It doesn't matter if they're trying to survive after an apocalypse in the video game, "Fallout", learning how to fly the Starship Enterprise in "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" or saving Wasteland in "Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two", Brian wants hope for his characters and wants their lives and actions to mean something.

"Demon Dance" and "Mind of the Beast" are no exception. He and his wife, Juliet, created the world where the supernatural is dependent on popular belief. Every character has hopes, dreams and purpose, whether it's a coffee barista who is learning Voodoo from her brother or a Norse Goddess who spends her days as a librarian.

Brian is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and Horror Writer Association. His other game credits include "Run Like Hell", "WWE All Stars", "Tales from the Borderlands" and "Minecraft: Story Mode".

Brian and Juliet live in Folsom, California with their dog, Layla (who is immortalized in Ozaria as “Mouse”). They enjoy strolling around Lake Folsom, driving to Lake Tahoe, and playing Dice Forge online with their friends.

The last time I read a series through this fast was when I started the Orlando Sanchez books, and before that it was Jim Butcher. Could not put these down. Not just great action and a very interesting plot line, the sarcasm was exceptionally refreshing. One can only hope more in this series are forthcoming. Highly recommend.

Have you ever been at a loss for words because you know your review will not do a book justice? That’s where I am at. Plus I don’t want to give any spoilers away, this book is complex, but not complicated if that makes sense.

I love the Sundancer series. Demon Dance was my first (and the first in the series) and it was a five star read for me. Mind Of The Beast is the second and I’m going to jump ahead of myself and say I cannot wait for the third!

Felix (the vampire) asks Nick to check the body of his friend at the morgue to see what killed him. Nick took along Thelma because she would know if magic had been used. Her brother is on vacation and will most likely string Nick up if anything happens to Thelma.

Of course nothing can ever be nice and simple when a vampire asks for a favor (because I mean really, if a vampire is asking for help, the task ahead is sure to be difficult).

That leads us into the story.

Mind Of The Beast is so well written with excellent characters I love. Like I said before it’s complex but it isn’t overwhelmingly so. Brian and Juliet right these amazing scenes that are you giving you so much information without you feeling like it’s been forced on you or that it isn’t necessary. It’s action packed with so much paranormal goodness going on that any urban fantasy junkie is sure to read this book from cover to cover without stopping. (I had to stop at 2 in the morning when I was at 85% because I knew eventually my children would be waking me up.) I finished it as soon as I had some spare moments to sit down and read today.

Loved it. I think some of my most favorite parts are between Nick and our handy dandy neighborhood watcher who is brought in to clean up messes, but I think deep down he and as friendly as watcher and not watcher can be. Nick is so sarcastic and the watcher is not amused most of the time, the banter makes me laugh out loud.

I also really enjoy that fact that Brian and Juliet wrote this together. I just think it’s cool when a husband and wife get together and create something like this together.

Mind Of The Beast was an amazing read! Like I said before I cannot wait until the next book. This series is the type that leaves you going through withdrawal as you wait for the next book.

Thank you so much for my copy of Mind Of The Beast.

Mind of beast, a Sundancer novel. This is the the second book to the a Sundancer novel series.

The characters are soooo deep! I find there is great character development in this book. The plot is very interesting and keeps you interested. To me the plot flows very smoothly and there is a great deal of mystery to be experienced.

This is what I would consider as one of the few books I actually couldn't put down. It consists of: supernatural, Angels and Demons. The few of my favourite elements or parts a book.

I really look to the third in this series and cannot wait for it.
