What do you do when you run out of places to hide from yourself?

Lindsay Birmingham is exceptional at concealing her true feelings with sarcasm and a smile, but lately, her carefully crafted persona has begun to unravel.

She escaped her past in every way but in her head, and even a successful modeling career and five chaotic roommates can’t distract her from the memories she has spent her entire life running from.

Parker McClaren makes her feel too much.

He has been in love with the closed-off, prickly girl down the hall since they were teenagers, but after years apart, he can’t deny she’s different now.

When he sees an opportunity to breach the friend zone, he seizes it, rocking the already delicate foundation of their friendship.

Emotionally unavailable or not, Parker is determined to test her limits, and each time she pushes him away, he moves in closer.

This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Lindsey and Parker’s story.
Lindsey has a tough past, which has left her insecure, vulnerable, and independent, and she has hidden her true feeling with sarcasm, and behind a carefully crafted persona, which is starting to unravel. Parker has loved Lindsey since they were teenagers, and he is determined to get move away from the friendzone.
This is a well written easy to read, emotional roller coaster, with friendships, insecurities, forced proximity, friends / lovers, roommates / lovers, determination, trust, healing, humour, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, and sweet, contemporary romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I just loved Lindsay and Parker's story. Lindsay had a rough start to life and is so independent and closed off. Parker is loving and supportive, he does all he can to prove to her how important she is to him. The mental health representation was so good. Lindsay faces her past and Parker stays right by her side through it all.

ARC REVIEW:

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐

THEMES: Friends to Lovers, Roommates to Lovers, He Falls First, No Spice, Dual POV,
Model x Musician, Mental Health

TW/CW: Body shaming, Suicide (not on page & not a MC), Domestic/Child Abuse (not on page), Panic attacks, Parental death (not on page)

I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t love it either. I found myself constantly putting the book down and struggling to pick it back up again. The book could be very repetitive at times and it started to frustrate me the longer I read. It felt like I kept reading the same thing over and over again just worded slightly different each time, it was excessive.

The side characters, Cody and Ray, really annoyed me and they acted really childish. Majority of the band disputes were because of these two and it was always over the stupidest things. They are only around twenty four years old but I’m the same age and just found it ridiculous how immature they were. I did like Shay and Dustin though but we just didn’t get a lot of them. We could have honestly had more scenes with Shay considering she was the FMC’s best friend but she was continuously away at work. However, I did enjoy her in the scenes we did get of her.

Though there were things I didn’t like about this book, it wasn’t all bad. I did find their romance really sweet and I liked how their relationship developed over the course of the book. I liked both the MCs for the most part but they also both frustrated me at times. There were also some sweet moments with her friends and her brother that I enjoyed and I loved how supportive Parker was throughout the book. It was nice to see Lindsay grow throughout and get to see her come out her shell more and more. I wasn’t sure about her at the beginning but she grew on me as the book went on.

Overall, the book wasn’t bad but I just found myself getting frustrated either from the characters or the repetitiveness which made it hard for me to enjoy it.

Thank you to Lexi Kingston and Grey’s Promotions for this ARC

I completely fell head over heels for this book—and honestly, I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did.

First, a huge thank you to Lexi Kingston for the ARC. Getting the chance to read Calloused and Scarred Hearts early was such a treat.

From the beginning, this dual POV contemporary romance pulled me in and didn’t let go. At its core, it’s a friends-to-lovers story between two characters carrying complicated pasts, and I really appreciated that the book doesn’t shy away from the harder parts of healing and learning to move forward. At times the story felt incredibly raw and real, which made the emotional moments hit even harder.

Parker and Lindsay absolutely stole my heart. Watching their relationship evolve from friendship into something deeper was so satisfying. Parker especially was impossible not to love—the way he cares for Lindsay so unconditionally had me completely obsessed with him, and his nickname for her melted my heart every time it appeared on the page.

This story definitely made me feel things. I made plenty of reader noises while reading, and there were moments that had me basically sobbing. At the same time, there were so many sweet moments that had me making heart eyes at my Kindle. The balance between the heavier emotional themes and the tenderness between Parker and Lindsay worked really well for me.

There were one or two side characters I didn’t fully warm up to, but it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the story overall.

I also appreciated that this romance focuses entirely on the emotional connection between the characters. There’s no on-page spice, which allows the vulnerability, trust, and healing at the center of the story to really shine.

By the time I reached the ending, I was completely invested in these characters and their journey, and it wrapped up in a way that felt incredibly satisfying.

This is an ARC Review.

This book was such a journey, one I will 100% read again. From the beginning, I had no idea where the story was headed, but I was completely invested in the ride.

And oh my gods we have character development and open communication in a contemporary romance! Even when conversations were uncomfortable or emotionally difficult, they had them. That honesty and willingness to face things head-on made it impossible not to be invested in their story.

One of the things I appreciated most was that this is a closed-door romance which enhances the intimacy. Instead of relying on explicit scenes, the emotional tension, vulnerability, and quiet moments between the characters carried the weight of the relationship. The result was a story that felt incredibly sweet, emotional, and at times angsty in the best way.

There were a few moments where the pacing slowed down a bit, but I think that was necessary. They allowed the characters to grow and process what she was going through.

Lindsey surprised me in how much I connected with her. Her journey, her insecurities, and the way she navigates her career and personal life felt very real. Lexi did a fantastic job portraying the fashion industry in a realistic light, which made Lindsey’s struggles and successes feel more meaningful.

Parker, on the other hand, is simply a green flag of a human being. Although there were moments where he felt a little more like a doormat than a green flag. I absolutely adored him. While part of me wished we had gotten more chapters from his perspective, I also understand why his POV was used sparingly. His perspective worked best as a support system for Lindsey’s story rather than overtaking it. He’s steady, thoughtful, and emotionally intelligent in a way that makes him both an incredible partner and friend.

Overall, this story felt like a slow, emotional unfolding rather than a straightforward romance arc, and that’s what made it so compelling for me. It’s a story about growth, vulnerability, and learning how to meet each other in the middle.

Parker is the kind of character that makes you believe healthy love stories can still be just as engaging as messy ones. I hope everyone gets to have someone like him in their life.
And after finishing this book, I’m already excited to dive into the stories of the other bandmates.

This was an arc that I got. This is the second book in the Lonely Melodies Series. I was excited because I really have enjoyed the book by Lexi Kingston. This book is about two friends/ roommates that both like each other. However, she had a trouble childhood/ teenage years and it makes it hard for her to open her heart. He has fallen hard for her and tried to help her and show her what it is liked to be loved. When she’s needs to go home to face her past and fight for her future, Parker is there for her to show her that he really does love her. When shes least expect it, all of her roommates show up to support her and show that she really has a family. Lindsey then returns back to her home, but it doesn’t take long to know that she really needs to face her demons, and she tells Parker that she is leaving for a while to figure this out. When she comes back she can finally tell him that she loves him and knows what it actually means.
This book really talks about trauma as a child, mental health and finding yourself. While I read this book start to finished, this was not a favorite of mine. I didn’t like that it a slow moving story and I felt like it was the same thing over and over. I thought it a boring book. I don’t think I have ever said that I was bored with a book, and I hate to say that. I thought there was opportunities, where it could have went in a different direction and been great. I feel like this story actually could have used some spice. It has the moments where it would have been a great opportunity to add some. I know that that wasn’t what was in this book when I got it, but I think that I would have been prefect. Please give this book and this author a try. You might actually really like this book.

Calloused & Scarred Hearts is book two in the Lonely Melodies series by Lexi Kingston. As always I do recommend reading a series in order to get the most out of it, but like many other series this book too can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series. CSH is a friends to lovers, no spice on page romance.

The premise of this book is sweet and the characters are definitely likeable, but for a reader such as myself, I was missing the spice. Parker and Lindsay are roommates, but Parker has secret feelings for Lindsay. Lindsay however, is on this journey of self discovery and healing from her past, so Parker’s timing is never right for him to make his move. Lindsay struggles with her mental health and is slowly coming into her own, but trusting others is very hard for her. Parker is with her through all of it, the ups and the downs, he is never scared to help her. The guy truly is a walking green flag, but Lindsay being herself, has the hardest time coming to terms with the feelings that have slowly been building. Does she cave and finally learn to trust our walking, talking boy next store, or does Lindsay cut and run?

This was my first time reading this author and while I did not like the lack of spicy moments, the characters are good and the writing has a good groove to it that makes it easy to read. Lindsay and Parker and two people that clearly care for one another but struggle with finding the right moment and trusting one another. That I think can be related to by a lot of readers. I liked the book and would recommend it to other readers.

I don't know where to start with this book. This is the first book I've read by Lexi Kingston but I know I need to go back and read That Girl And This Guitar. But I wasn't hindered by not reading it. In fact I feel this book can be completely read as a standaone.

In saying that, there isn't much I can say about this book. It will so easily be spoilt and it would be a shame to do so. I will say I cried heaps. But I also felt so many others emotions. I was sad, happy, angry and a sense of fear that was written about was truly felt.

I loved all the characters in this book. I can't wait to explore more of the other characters and this band. But Lindsey and Parker were something else. Parkers patients and understanding with Lindsay was truly something special. Lindsey's strength and fight made her the character of this book for me.

This book ia a huge recommend from me. But don't expect anything but sweet kisses, it didn't need anymore. Its made such a refreshing change.

Calloused and Scarred Hearts is a heartfelt, emotionally rich story that follows Lindsay as she slowly learns to trust, to hope, and to believe that love isn’t something reserved for other people. Lexi Kingston does a fantastic job guiding Lindsay from guarded and self‑protective to someone who can finally imagine a future that includes joy, connection, and stability.
Lindsay’s growth is the heart of this book. She faces the shadows of a difficult childhood, stands up to a bully who has shaped far too much of her life, and fights to protect someone she cares about—all while navigating what a healthy, loving relationship looks like for the first time. Watching her open up around Parker, step by step, is incredibly rewarding. Their relationship unfolds with patience and tenderness, and it’s easy to root for them as Lindsay begins to believe that love can be real, lasting, and meant for her.
I really connected with Lindsay's mental health struggles, too, feeling her deep-seated beliefs that she is flawed and undeserving and wanting more for her.
Lindsay is a beautifully drawn character—resilient, vulnerable, and deeply human. Seeing her earn her happy ending after everything she’s carried is one of the most satisfying parts of the story.
This is a moving, hopeful read that balances emotional depth with a genuine sense of warmth. I highly recommended this for anyone who loves character‑driven romance with heart.

Parker and Lindsay’s story is one that will stay with me for a while. Lindsay has a troubled past that has left her closed off. She is a supermodel who has a band for roommates. One of them being Parker. She’s known them for a while so they’ve been around her for years however she hides her past well that no one except Shay her best friend knows. Parker has secretly had feelings for her for years but until one disappointing night he doesn’t act on his feelings. This uncovers so many feelings and hidden ones that Lindsay has been good on keeping.

Parker stole my heart from the moment I read him on these pages. He was patient he was kind he did what needed to be done for her to feel safe. He wanted her to feel seen over his own emotions. That is what a book boyfriend should be so thank you Lexi for introducing me to my latest book boyfriend.

Shay is what every girl needs in as a best friend. She was loyal to the point where she would hurt anyone who tried to hurt Lindsay but she also pushed Lindsay when she needed it.

The rest of the bandmates were amazing and I want to read about each and everyone one of them more. I would totally be down for this to be a series and I follow every single one of them around.

The story was captivating from the first page to the last. I loved how the writer made us understand and feel all the emotions they were feeling. There’s nothing better than a book portrayed so well that it stays with you and that’s how I feel about this book.

I just finished Calloused and Scarred Hearts, by Lexi Kingston, and I'm even more hooked on this Lonely Melodies series. This was written as a standalone book in an interconnected series, so you can read it that way too. Thanks to the author and Greys Promotions for giving me an ARC copy to read early-I requested one since I liked the author and series. This series kind of reminds me of a couple of popular TV shows from a few years ago. Lindsay, Parker, Cody, Dustin and Ray are all roommates in a large mansion. The guys are all in a band together, and Lindsay is a model. Ray has a bar that is heavily featured as the group hangout... What makes it unique is Lexi Kingston's writing-you feel like you should be able to physically see some of these places (spoiler-you can't-its fiction). I will say the group seems to have more drama in this book than they had in That Girl and This Guitar. I should also note that the topics of bullying, eating disorders, abuse, and loss are all part of the drama side of this book. If that bothers you, then you can still enjoy the other books in the series and just skip this one.

I wished I could give this so much more but I thought it was so complex and I had a hard time getting into the story. Maybe it wasn't the right time for me but after a while I got into the story and I quite liked the relationship and chemistry between Lindsay & Parker and as you learned what past Lindsay went through, that was very heartwrenching to read. It was really a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Lindsay & Parker have known each other for a long time but it was always a friendship and nothing more but Parker always had a crush on her, even though it never crossed that thin line. Lindsay has been modelling for a while but her heart hasn't really been into it anymore and when she needs to go back home to deal with her past, so much is still on her mind. Even though the relationship between Lindsay & Parker has evolved into something more, there seems to be still a wall up that makes it hard for her to trust anyone but slowly it's coming down. Will they have a chance at the end of it all?....

Some love stories begin softly.

Others crash into your life like a guitar riff you didn’t see coming.

Calloused & Scarred Hearts by Lexi Kingston leans into the latter — a romance about two people carrying more emotional baggage than they’d like to admit, trying to navigate love while still healing from their pasts.

The story follows characters who feel beautifully imperfect. They’re stubborn, guarded, sometimes frustrating… and that’s exactly what makes them believable. Their connection isn’t instant or easy — it grows through tension, vulnerability, and the slow realization that sometimes the person who challenges you the most is also the one who understands you best.

The music backdrop adds a really nice texture to the story. It gives the romance an emotional rhythm that makes the quieter moments land just as strongly as the dramatic ones.

What stood out most for me was the emotional honesty. The book explores scars — both literal and emotional — without turning the story overly heavy.

Instead, it becomes a reminder that healing and love often arrive at the same time.

This was such an amazing book!

This book is Lindsey’s self love and healing journey. The way it slowly progresses through the book gave me such a light hearted feeling when we get to the end. She struggles with mental health and overcoming the challenges that it brings. I loved being able to see such an accurate, written representation of what mental health looks like on the inside and it’s not always what you can see.
We have Parker, who is determined to push her limits and is never afraid when he’s pushed away because he will always move in closer. He helps her in so many ways with what she is struggling to overcome. In short, he’s any woman’s dream guy! We love a supportive boyfriend that will always be there for you.
This book was such a raw and real love story. I can’t wait for the next one!

Calloused & Scarred Hearts is Lindsay and Parker’s friends to lovers, slow burn romance and it didn’t take me long to become invested and intrigued by this couple and their journey.
Parker and Lindsay are roommates but he has secretly been hiding his real feelings for her. Problem is he needs to prove to her that he is not going anywhere anytime soon before she might open up to him.
Lindsay doesn’t trust easily and she continues to push Parker away until she realises that before she can live life to the fullest she needs to spend time with her brother in her hometown and she needs to love herself first and foremost. So will Lindsay face her past and look to the future…..
This is a beautifully written, slow burn with characters I fell hard and fast for, it’s about taking a leap of faith and learning to trust again.

I just finished Calloused & Scarred Hearts and I really enjoyed it. The story follows Parker and Lindsay, and Lindsay has been through a lot growing up. Her past with her family, especially everything involving her dad and brother, continues to affect her even as she tries to move forward with her life and career as a model.

I really liked how patient Parker was with her. He cared about her for a long time and never truly gave up, even when she pushed him away. Watching him slowly break through her walls was one of my favorite parts. I also loved that Lindsay never gave up on her brother and tried to help him even after everything that happened. Her friendship with Shay was another part I enjoyed.

Overall, it was an emotional story about healing, learning to trust, and letting people love you. There isn’t really any spice, just a kiss here and there, which I actually appreciated. 😊

Calloused & Scarred Hearts is a quiet, emotional romance that teaches us process of healing. It’s not a very fast-paced love story, instead it’s a slow burn which teaches the action of love and healing through it.

The story follows Lindsay, our heroine with a painful past and Parker, our male lead who refuses to give up on her. The story have tropes like friends-to-lovers and forced proximity, which I love and enjoyed it this book so much. The romance unfolds slowly and gently, then rushing toward instant infatuation, which I prefer than reading instant love with no context.

What I liked about this book is that it has characters who are not just broke in a romanticized sense but are struggling with their experiences and struggles, and struggling and healing together affects their decisions and relationships positively.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book!!!

Lindsay and Parker are roommates and have known each other for quite some time. He’s been interested in her but timing wasn’t right and she’s afraid to trust. When he gets his chance, he continues to keep proving to her that he’s not going anywhere and she can trust him. He continues to be her rock even when she pushes him away. He helps her to see that she needs to face her past in order to move forward. They both fall in love with each other but she realizes she needs to spend some time in her hometown with her brother to learn to love herself before she can give Parker her all. A slow burn of trusting, finding comfort, and breaking down walls to be able to find you don’t have to do it all on your own.

♡Lindsey & Parker♡

This is the second story I've read from this author, and I loved it just as much! Lindsey is closed off and rarely expresses her true feelings. Instead she replaces them with sarcasm and smiles. Lately she's been feeling too much though and Parker is the one to blame.

Parker is determined to get Lindsey to let her walls down and let him in. Will he succeed or just end up pushing her away??

This was such a beautiful story. I loved the self-healing aspects and just seeing Lindsey blossom was so heartfelt 🫶😌 The writing was perfect as well as the characters!

Thanks to Grey's Promotions and Lexi Kingston for the opportunity to review this e-ARC. I appreciate the chance to read such an incredible story.

I must say, I really enjoyed this romance. It was well balanced and the characters are so well written and their backgrounds are extremely detailed, which serves to enhance their story. The element I liked the most is the mental health representation, the trauma healing and growth, especially the FMC. The way she uses her coping mechanisms to protect/isolate herself seems realistic and three dimensional.

Overall, Calloused and Scarred Hearts is a well-developed and wholesome book, and would really recommend it. There isn't any open door spice, but the chemistry between the MMCs is almost palpable.

This was such a heartfelt friends to lovers romance. Lindsay is sarcastic, guarded, and clearly carrying a lot of pain from her past. Watching Parker patiently break through her walls after years of loving her was both emotional and beautiful.
What really stood out to me was the vulnerability in this story. Lindsay’s struggle to let someone in felt very real, and Parker’s steady support made their relationship feel genuine and earned. Their history together added so much depth to the slow emotional build between them.
If you enjoy a “he falls first” friends to lovers romance with emotional growth and a journey toward healing, this one is definitely worth the read.

Just finished Calloused & Scarred Hearts and wow… this story really stayed with me.

This book is such a powerful emotional journey about healing, trust, and learning to let someone truly see you.

Lindsay’s story was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time, and Parker’s steady, patient support made their relationship feel so genuine and meaningful.

I especially loved how the story explored family trauma and healing while still delivering a slow-burn romance that felt earned.

I’m already looking forward to reading Thomas’s story and seeing where Ray’s story goes next.

Heartfelt friends-to-lovers slow burn romance. Lindsay is fiercely guarded by trauma-built walls, and Parker quietly devoted from the start patiently chips away at them, becoming her steady rock even as he’s clearly craving the same love he gives. The mental-health portrayal is thoughtful and sensitive, though it sometimes felt repetitive and I wished the story had included seeking professional support to raise awareness. Overall, a tender, reassuring read about trust, comfort, and the slow, messy work of breaking down walls.
Thank you to the author for the eARC, this is my honest review.

Loved it (rounded up)

This was such a great read! I’m definitely going back to read book one because Dustin and Shay play such a big role in this story that I’ve already fallen in love with them.

This is kisses-only. While I mostly read heavy spice, I honestly didn’t notice the lack of spice here because the emotional connection was so strong. There’s a lot of angst and Lindsay has a lot of trauma to work through that adding spice would’ve felt disingenuous to her journey.

Parker’s patience with Lindsay is so sweet. He’s everything she needs but never believed she deserved. At the same time, she also has to become someone Parker can lean on too, not someone he constantly has to hold up. She works to become the partner he deserves and give him the same support he gives her.

Watching these two choose each other (even when the other tries to push them away) was satisfying. Lexi did a fantastic job bringing them to life.

I loved Lindsey and Parker’s story. She’s gone through so much in life. She’s guarded. But Parker really wants to be with her, so one day he takes that leap. Even though she keeps pushing him away, he proves to her that he’s not going anywhere. That he’ll continue to be there for her and when she’s ready, it could be the two of them. I loved his patience with her. Every girl needs a guy like that in their life. This was such a sweet and awesome story. I really enjoyed reading it.

Lindsay may seem tough on the outside, but the inside is a whole different story. She has been running her whole life and her past is finally catching up with her. Parker has always wanted Lindsay, but has been kept at arms length. When he sees how the other models are treating her, his protective side comes out. Watching Lindsay deal with her past trauma and face her current demons is heartbreaking. But you cheer her on to get threw to the other side of it. Such a great story!!

Onca again Ms. Lexi has made me swoon over her leads. I really enjoyed the first book and this one was just as good! Usually I go for more spice but the sweetness in this story captured me just like in That girl and this Guitar.
Ma'am you know what you're doing and can write clean romance with perfection. Lindsay and Parker have such a dream worthy relationship. I definitely would recommend this book!

Sometimes behind a sarcastic independent woman aka Lindsey are FMC is someone with a lot of insecurities and someone to actually hurt and protective of themselves which is understandable.

Parker is so kind and his support for Lindsey is great, they have been friends since teenagers but he definitely wants out of the friend category. How he supports her and her healing journey had me so emotional at times he was such a great support system for her.

This was a timely reminder about the power of words. They can be used to tear down or to elevate another person. In Lindsay’s case, her heart is so badly scarred that she is unable to let Parker into her heart.

I loved Chapter 20 which was brilliantly written. It made me cry and also made me smile because of what Lindsay went through and how Parker was with her unconditionally.
