Lights, Camcorder, Action!

EVEN AFTER DEATH
by Harrison Phillips

3 stars. When Faye woke up, she didn't know who she was, her age (23), or where she lived and worked...

Or that...

She had been beaten about the head until the back of her skull was shattered into tiny pieces...

She was no longer capable of reasoned thinking. She woke up in a dark concrete basement lying on a dirty stained sheet...

A space she shared with two insane men...

They were wearing masks. One of the men was raping a corpse while the other ran a camcorder...

Then...

The two men changed places so that the other man could take his turn raping the dead woman...

Although Faye's brains were leaking out...

Some primal instinct told her she was in danger. She whined, and the two men realized she wasn't dead...

They assaulted Faye until she finally died...

Meanwhile...

Carla and Derek's marriage was on shaky ground when a traffic accident took Derek's life...

Only Derek's immediate family and an unknown bald man attended his funeral...

Afterward...

While Carla was downstairs indulging herself in a bottle of wine, she heard a loud thump on the second story...

Opening her daughter's bedroom door, Carla found the nanny on the floor with a head wound, and her daughter gone...

The bald man from the funeral stood in the room holding a laptop. He forced Carla to watch a vile video...

Starring Derek...

Derek had a contract with the bald man, and it was binding even after death...

The bald man told Carla: You oughta be in pictures...

This was an extreme horror story. I've read a lot worse, but this was not my kind of horror. I'm going to try to be fair reviewing it for people who like stories about snuff films, so here goes.

The story did have a plot. It wasn't just non-stop killing and gore, but it was very repetitive and unbelievable. If you're only interested in gore and over the top offing of innocent people, you'll probably settle right in with this book. This wasn't my kind of story on any level.

Warning to some readers: violent killing of men, women, and children, vicious rape and mental cruelty are part of the story.

Carla is having an affair with her fitness trainer Owen. Things change in a drastic way when her husband Derek dies. In what business did he make his money? What is Carla forced to do when her daughter is kidnapped? The author leads you into the shady world of snuff movies. His prose is good but his depictions definitely nothing for the faint hearted. The details are disgusting and some of the most extreme horror I know. It's a quick read with nasty scenes and lewd language. Recommended if you dare!

Lust, sexual depravation, brutalisation, then mutilation leading to murder...repeat ad infinitum.

An extreme horror adventure that delivers what it promises but, for me, perhaps not quite going the extra mile.

Overall - Seemed a bit predictable and 'safe' when options were available within the storyline to ramp up the unhinged and deranged evil wickedness to an even higher level.

Recommended for the avid reader of the vile and obscene - if this is you, then let them cameras roll!!

Rating: 3.3 stars.

Carla thinks she has the perfect life. A wealthy, handsome husband, a child, and a younger man on the side. Despite her husband, Derek, spending a lot of time away from home, she's happy to reap the benefits of the cash he's bringing in.. until one day it all comes crashing down when Derek is killed in a car accident and she's faced with the reality of what he actually did for a living and it's worse than she could have ever imagined.

𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
I absolutely devoured this. Harrison is one of, if not my favourite Splatterpunk/Extreme Horror author and an auto-buy for me. As ever, this was so well written, fast-paced, and definitely his darkest work by far.

It's incredibly visceral, heartbreaking, and viciously brutal. You truly feel sorry for the victims of Derek's horrific secret life, and the depths of his depravity are terrifying. How well do you really know the person you're married to? & how far will a mother go to protect her child from the sordid world they've dragged them into?

* This book has ALL the triggers. Everything. I'd advise reading this only if you have zero triggers.

Even After Death

This is another that I’ve had on my tbr for a long time! I ordered the paperback from Harrison & he kindly sent me an audible code, so of course I was going to get straight to it!

Do you know your partner well enough to believe everything he tells you without any doubts? Well Carla thought she did, married to Derick, she believed he had his own business which meant a lot of out of town trips & a lot of late nights. She didn’t mind, it paid for the house & the bills & she got to stay at home with her daughter.

After a few drinks out on a date night they get into a car crash & Derick unfortunately doesn’t survive. Karla is crushed, despite the distance between them she loved him & was planning to make more effort to keep them as a family.

Well that soon changes when a couple of guys show up & let her in on Dericks real “business”. He was actually one of their best men in the snuff film industry & he still owes them for “one last” movie. Carla is devastated & forced to step in, it was either that or they take her daughter.

She has no choice right? She has to be involved in these evil & unspeakable acts 🫣 She doesn’t want to do it…does she? Carla & her husband may have been more alike that she previously thought 😨

Aghhhhh this was SO bloody good 👏🏼 I have to say it’s probably the most brutal from Harrison that I have read so far & quite possibly my new fav from him too!

I didn’t expect the detailed descriptions from the acts 😱 it’s all the more crazy because it does happen!! It does you make you question, can you really trust anyone though 🤷🏼‍♀️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! Do check your triggers with this one, it is very descriptive 🫣 Thank you again Harrison for sending me this 🤎

This story was disturbing and depraved right from the prologue... so of course, my attention was caught immediately.

A slow build up follows the prologue, setting the scene and building the characters well.. and then it hits full force and takes off running, kicking and screaming. Tough decisions are made, extremely dark family secrets revealed and deeply desperate actions are taken. I couldn't put it down! I didn't want to put it down! Even though it sickened, shocked and horrified me, it did so in the best way!

A woman loses her husband, then her daughter. But she has an opportunity to get her daughter back, it involves doing things she could never imagine.... Will she do it? Will it break her? How far would YOU go to save your child?

We see this woman struggling with what she needs to do, with what has been done to her and her daughter, without them knowing, the guilt, desperation, and rage she suffers, how her feelings start to change, confusion and rage, turning to remorseless revenge.

This goes hard! Harrison stated it might be the most brutal thing he's ever written, and he ain't lying! Shocking, sickening acts, brought vividly to your imagination with Harrison's detailed descriptions. It's a very addictive read, the narrative, pacing and storyline effortless, and very hard to put down.

Carla has a loving husband and an adorable daughter, but she craves more. Her husband Derek is always away for work, which leads Carla in the arms of another man. When her and Derek get into a car accident, Derek dies, leaving Carla feeling alone and guilty. After Derek is buried, Carla gets a knock on the door by someone claiming they are colleagues of Derek.

Derek's job is not what Carla thinks it is. His job is evil, and he's the best in the game. After he died, he left an open debt that still has to be paid off. Carla refuses to do what is asked of her but is forced when her daughters life is at stake. How far would you go to save your daughters life?

This book was mean and one of Phillips' darker books. The depravity in this was intense, but I loved it. These people were ruthless, and I found myself kind of cheering them on. A quote that really stood out was, "Sometimes, you have to be cruel to be kind," and ain't that the damn truth. I loved the uniforms and the masks. A small but very nice touch. Phillips books are incredible. He always delivers, and I ate this right up.

Carla is having an affair while her husband works his ass off for her and their daughter. After an unfortunate accident leaving Carla and Ellie on their own she decides changes need to be made. Being offered to help with her husbands secret job in order to save her daughter she accepts. She’s getting herself deeper and deeper into a world she doesn’t belong…

From the get go this is utter filth. The prologue was rancid and this carried on all the way through. He wasn’t lying when he said this is his most extreme work to date! I was repulsed yet eager to find out what happened. The ending left us to the imagination but left us guessing in which the epilogue answered these questions for us. How far will Carla go?

This is out now and definitely one for if you want to test your limits!

Thankyou for the recent ARC of this awesome book.. 🩸

Wow, what a gutteral punch of a book this was! Carla thought she had it all with her husband, daughter and expensive and lush lifestyle. When her husband suddenly dies in a car crash, the truth of what he did for work, and how he afforded their expensive lifestyle comes to the forefront in the worst possible way...

This book is full of violence, gore, and lots of different ways to make a snuff film! With fantastic character progression throughout. If you love your splatterpunk books, this needs to be on the top of your list! Available now, also on KU.

Killing is in our nature

I could not put this depraved story down. It really dives deep into humans inner darkness. Torture galore with some fun twists that make it easy to quickly eat through the book. Definitely recommend reading!

This is extreme horror. Not for the faint of heart.

Gruesome ‼️

Well, what a very disturbing story I have just read 😳
As I was reading, I thought to myself, how the hell does Harrison think up such violent books ?

I’m a huge fan and would recommend reading it if you dare !

After the death of her husband, Carla is forced to confront what he actually did for a living and find out how far she would go to protect their young daughter. Vile. Explicit and utterly depraved I had planned to read this 2-3 chapters at a time, but found myself unable to put it down until I finished it. Not for the faint of heart, take the TWs seriously, and if you have the stomach for it, join Carla on a spiral into unchecked psychopathy.

I went into this one blind and it was a wild ride. This took some turns I didn’t at first expect and exceeded my based on cover only expectations.

“Even After Death" by Harrison Phillips
How can I not give this book five stars? "Even After Death" is a visceral experience—graphic, violent, and intensely gripping. Phillips masterfully weaves a dark narrative that explores themes of death, torture, trauma, and the depths of human depravity. The shocking twists will have you clenching your jaw in disbelief as the plot unfolds.

From the very first page, the intensity grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. The portrayal of such harrowing subjects, including rape and sodomizing, is unflinching, making it a difficult yet essential read for those who can handle its weight. Phillips doesn’t shy away from the darkness of humanity; instead, he immerses the reader in it, making every moment count.

This book is not for the faint of heart, but it is undeniably powerful. It is a bold, jaw-dropping journey that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. If you’re ready to confront the brutal realities of life through a masterful lens, this book is an absolute must-read.

This book is not for the faint of heart — it’s brutal, gripping, and impossible to forget. Harrison Phillips pulls no punches, pushing readers through some of the darkest, most unsettling territory imaginable. It’s a story that demands strength to get through, but for those who can, it delivers raw emotion, unforgettable characters, and a haunting narrative that lingers long after you’ve turned the final page.

What would you do if you found out your spouse was involved in making snuff films? That’s the reality Carla found herself in after her husband’s death.

I mean how could you NOT want to read that, right?!?

Even After Death reminded me of the Pieces of June trilogy by Stuart Bray, but less brutality & violent.

Don’t get me wrong the level of Fucked Uppedness was still much higher than most people would feel comfortable with. So you’ve been warned.

This was an utterly disturbing, horrifying, and obscenely uncomfortable reading experience. Probably one of the most shocking books I’ve read. I absolutely hated every second of this but I think I was supposed to? If you like extreme horror splatter-punk with disgustingly shocking moments, this is for you but if you find absolutely anything triggering at all I would avoid like the plague.

Wow I really liked this one, love the twist at the end and love the character development as she starts enjoying doing what her husband did. I really like Gerald I feel like they get quite close and he's very protective of his staff despite how messed up he is. Some very good graphic kills love the razor wire strap on at the end hope they'll be a sequal to this one, I want so much more

This was very nearly a 5*. It's a very familiar subject within the genre, snuff films, but I still found it original and shocking. However I didn't like how easily the main character did a total 180, it seemed too quick, we needed a bit more exploration into her psyche.
Still, it was a great read
