A second chance romance is my cup of tea. If you add limited drama, and a sweet touch, then I am in heaven. You all, this story covered all of my prerequisites. Krew was a good guy who'd lost his girlfriend with no explanation. Five years later he received the answer and more. You should try this one. It's a good story with a lovely ending.
I was so excited to have the opportunity to read this novella! 𝐀 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 is a beautiful second chance romance where we meet Krew and Amryn, who are two young people who were deeply and madly in love in their teenage years. However, when something unexpected happened, their lives were turned upside down and the magnitude of the circumstances they found themselves in, tore them apart. Years later, when they both return to their hometown, they are forced to face the decisions and mistakes of their past. When secrets are revealed, will they be able to mend their broken hearts and find their way back to love and each other?
Though a slow burn, this novella is an entertaining page-turner with perfect pacing and wonderful characters. The overall plot and world building was well done. It is filled with funny and light moments, but it also touches on some heavy and realistic topics that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next twist and turn and secret to be revealed! From the very first page, I was drawn in and could not put the book down!
I just loved Krew and Amyrn! I loved that they were not perfect people. Their flaws made them realistic and relatable. Though imperfect, throughout the story, they strived to be the best they could be and by the end, we see amazing character growth and development. I also enjoyed their friendship and overall love story. I thought that the way the author used flashbacks to weave the FMC and MMC’s past history into the present story really helped in getting a better picture of their relationship and made their chemistry and love so much more palpable. And just like I like it, the spice was indeed spicing in this one!
I would definitely recommend 𝐀 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 and you should add it to your TBR if you enjoy reading about any of the following:
🤎 Black Love ⚾ Return to Hometown 🤎 Small Town Romance ⚾ Secret Baby 🤎 Slow Burn ⚾ Redemption Arc 🤎 Second Chance Romance ⚾ Graphic Designer FMC 🤎 MLB Pro Baseball Player MMC ⚾ Spicy Romance 🌶️ 🤎 HEA
Tropes MLB player MMC Single mom (by choice 🙄) Second chance Novella
I think I’m learning that I do not like the secret baby trope .. unless it’s a situation where the FMC has been trying to find or get in touch with the MMC and due to miscommunication or outside forces she was unable to reach him.. this story is not that. Amryn made a choice to block Krew, leave town, hide her pregnancy, hide the baby for almost 5 years, AND lied to her parents and told them that Krew abandoned her and told her he didn’t want the baby! She literally let them think he was a dead beat all that time, which is trifling.m as hell given that they were supposedly so in love and were going to be together forever. And then she had the nerve to ask for forgiveness and want to try again with the relationship lol I wanted to DNF just off of that alone. Every time she said “I had my reasons” pissed me off because there is never a justifiable reason for that. Even after finding out about what his dad did, it was too late because I had already written off the FMC. She wasn’t a super young child. She was 17, she was old enough to know that was she was choosing to do wasn’t right. Having the best friend ask her to include the baby in the wedding was weird, because what did she think was going to happen after that when Krew was also in the wedding.
I’m giving 2/2.5 stars for Krew and how he immediately stepped up and wanted to spend all of his time with his son, how rightfully upset Amryn’s parents were after they found out the truth and apologized, and for the reconciliation of the relationship as a whole.
Thank goodness it was a novella, otherwise, I would’ve DNF.
Keeping in mind the MCs are 22-23 years old, but even with that additional info. It’s still wild to me the FMC’s best friend asked the FMC to allow her secret child to participate in her wedding. The same wedding his father is in, oh and the child knows who his father is. And is old enough and has the ability to verbally communicate!
Girl, ma’am, make that make sense?! Did you actually think that would end well?! There wouldn’t be any drama.
It was weird to me the FMC was focused on getting back with the MC so early in the story. It was giving flighty bird behavior. And in the same breath, she was basically an ill advised kid.
I think had the story been longer, some of the details would’ve been flushed out to make the characters more likeable. Because her having the good girl complex and pressure wasn’t really presented until later in the story and by then I hated her.
Amryn's best friends wedding is what brought her back to town that she'd left over four years ago. She left holding a secret to most and a lie to others. The biggest barrier she knew she had to face was Krew. How was she going to tell the only man she ever loved that he was the father to her 4 year old son. Krew was very upset after learning the truth not understanding or accepting her reason for keeping his son away. He had so much lost time to make up for with his son. Krew's heart only belonged to Amryn. After getting past the initial hurt of the betrayal he realized there was no other woman for him than her. They both felt the same and decided to work on their relationship together as a family.
What it all boils down to is communication! I believe a combination of age, maturity and … Krews dad were the reason for Amryn to run away like she did. What shocked me is that her parents didn’t pull up on Krew and his folks! Like- nope- you’re not going to run my child away while you go on and live this amazing life! Five years of missed opportunities! Everyone is to blame- Krew included. If the love was as strong as it was, why didn’t he go to her parents to figure out what happened! Everyone made my nerves bad! Lol! Anyways, this book was cute and I am happy it ended how it did! I would love to have a follow up! Like- what was up with ole girl Teresa? Was she crushing on Krew or something? All in all- this was a nice quick read!
Amryn made a choice that ultimately costed her relationship with Krew. The love between the two never died and eventually brought them together again. The situation was tough especially knowing that a person you trusted was the root cause of the decision that tore y’all apart. I love second chance love. It allows the reader to see how much both characters can grow and fight for the love they deserve. Tay did an amazing job of showing how forgiveness can bring two people together that was once torn apart. I truly enjoyed this novella and I’m happy that we went back to Maple Hills!
Tay Mo’nae’s A Second Swing at Love is a captivating tale of second chances and the complexities of love. This beautifully crafted story revolves around high school sweethearts who are torn apart by a heartbreaking miscommunication, only to find themselves reunited years later under unexpected circumstances—a secret baby.
Overall, A Second Swing at Love is a delightful read that will resonate with anyone who believes in the power of love and second chances. I highly recommend it for fans of romance looking for a story that’s as heartfelt as it is engaging.
A nice sweet story about how a young 17 year old girl takes full responsibility for her teenage pregnancy and raising her son for 4 years. Her parents and best friend convinces her to come back to her home town. She knows that coming back will force her to deal with the reality of telling the love of her life that she had a baby for him without his knowledge. Can she salvage their relationship and build a family with each other or will she face rejection.
This was a cute and sweet small town novella. Arryn and Krew were high school sweethearts. Krew became a major league baseball pitcher. Arryn left home her senior year pregnant without telling Krew.
The book is about him learning about his son 4 years later, the fallout and the back story. Though I don’t care what anyone says Jaimee was a lousy friend to out her that way.
Otherwise I read this novella to try the author out. Still not sure about her writing and storytelling. Borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited.
I needed something to get me out of a reading rut and this was it! A sports romance, secret baby, and second chance love! Outside of sports romance the other two tropes aren’t my favorites but I absolutely LOVED this story! It was just what I needed!
The chemistry between Krew and Amryn was strong!!! And you could tell despite the circumstances that they truly loved each other and had been lost without each other!

This was a beautiful read. Amryn and Krew were high school sweethearts that abruptly ended it Krew didn’t know why. Amryn was young and made a crucial decision and thought she was doing the right thing. Years later she is back home and knows that her secrets are about to be exposed in a hurtful way. I loved how even though Krew was hurt, that he immediately stepped up to the plate. Things worked out for the better and I’m here for it. Great job sis on another bagger 🩷
Mo’Nae is a GENIUS with the pen. This story is about Love, Forgiveness, Family, Understanding and Second Chances. I did not want this story to end. I Love reading the different places and people in ButterRidge and Maple Hills from Tay other books. If you you’re not familiar with Tay Mo’Nae other books…please get familiar with them….you want be disappointe. With everything going on in this crazy world. It’s refreshing to read about Love .
Wow! Teenage lovers who gets pregnant in high school and don’t tell the father. Initially, I was upset with Amryn, but later realized that Krew’s father put that thought in her mind. After four years, Krew finds out about his son before she gets a chance to tell him. He held a loot of animosity, but his heart softens after he finds out what his father did and they get back together and has a happy family unit.
Wow to learn Krew's father had a hand in Amryn decision to leave is kind of messed up? I really wished she would have told her parents the truth. I'm glad Aceson got his family together you can tell that's all the little boy wanted. Now I'm wondering who book is next? I would love for Krew and Amryn to get a wedding book??
This was a really cute story. I had to keep reminding myself that Amryn was a teenager when she made the decision she made. But she definitely should’ve said something the first time she saw him. I also would’ve told on the dad. Regardless it was beautiful how they came together. My only complaint is the ending felt a little abrupt. But overall it was good.
Amryn found out she was pregnant and she fled to her Aunt's home in North Carolina, Krew could not figure out why she left cause she would not respond to him. It's her best friend wedding and the ring bearer get sick so has to take his place the son Krew knew nothing about Great Book
The story was predictable and juvenile. Jamiee forcing her to include her biggest secret as part of her wedding was made no sense. Amryn going so long without sharing the secret and still not giving the full story until the end was annoying. It was clear who gave her the silly idea but to wait so long made the story fall flat.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️| 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 I love a second chance romance and this one was done so well especially since it is a shorter story. The story plot was so good along with the character development. I felt each main character’s emotions and loved how the story unfolded.
⚾️ Second Chance ⚾️ Small Town ⚾️ Secret Baby ⚾️ MLB Player
I did not expect to cry with this one but I did. This set second chance romance follows Amryn who’s back in her hometown after running away with a secret. It’s only a matter of time before she runs into her high school love and those secrets catch up to her.
This was a cute quick read. The storyline was basic to me because it is something that we all have heard before. Teenager pregnancy with mom running away keeping pregnancy a secret and quiet from town gossip. What I did enjoy about the read was that she didn't keep the identity of her child's father away from her son.
I knew that father had something to do with her decision but I see his point of view. She should of been honest with Krew and told him what was going on. We live and learn from the error of our ways. As usual, 5 star read.
The story of two high school sweethearts who had a second chance….be still my heart! I couldn’t put it down as I wanted the HEA..no spoilers. Read for yourself! It was a great novella!!!
I love secret baby books and I love baseball ⚾️ so this was a double win for me 🩷🩷. I knew what led to her leaving and was just waiting on that revelation. Now what’s the deal with Teresa?
I loved the book, I wished it was longer, but overall it was a great novella. I am glad Krew found out the truth on why she left, and his dad was wrong for telling her what he told her.
I’ve been patiently waiting for this release. I absolutely loved this book! I was worried for a second but I truly loved the progression of Amryn and Krew’s reconstruction.
