In small-town Wyoming, a tough sheriff and a former Navy SEAL are thrown together by circumstance. Their fiery chemistry leads to constant clashes, but as they work to solve a mystery, they can't ignore the growing feelings between them.

Sheriff Neil Windham has one mission: to protect Whisper Ridge. But when human remains surface at the Lennox Ranch, the town’s past comes back to haunt it. As Neil dives deeper into the investigation, he’s torn between his duty, his father’s declining health, and the fire ignited by the relentless, unpredictable former Navy SEAL, Connor Mason.

Connor didn’t come to Whisper Ridge looking for trouble—or a future. He never intended to fall in love, least of all with someone like Neil. But with every heated encounter, Neil and Connor’s attraction escalates into something undeniable, a force of nature they can’t resist. Now, with an offer to rejoin his old team, Connor must choose between a future in Whisper Ridge or leaving behind the only man who’s ever made him feel like he belongs.

Into the Fall is an opposites-attract, enemies-to-lovers M/M romance featuring a battle-hardened former SEAL and a dedicated sheriff. Duty and desire collide, old ranch secrets come to light, and a hard-earned happily-ever-after awaits.

I was very much looking forward to this final entry in the Whisper Ridge series from RJ and, in the main, it didn't disappoint.

Neil and Connor are both interesting characters with unique backgrounds that give them both hidden depth and each of them has private struggles that they've got to come to terms with both individually and, as they move forward in their relationship.

My main niggle with this one was with the way that relationship started. For me, Connor hit levels of uncomfortable stalker-ish behaviour that, if the other character had been female, would have had red flags flying all over the place.

I don't think it's attractive to essentially prod and poke someone to the point that they have an angry reaction and get in your face and you then kiss them. Whether they choose to then kiss you back, to me, is irrelevant to the fact you've provoked them into behaviour that, without the stalkery element, likely wouldn't have happened.

Now, having said that...

It was very clear that Neil was attracted to Connor, so he's not pushing himself onto someone with no interest at all, but there were plenty of good reasons for Neil to be steering clear - at that point in time.

This is very much a me thing and I don't believe it would bother most people, I just found it a little bit too much push and not enough letting Neil drop his guard enough first.

Once they do get together, however, they're a really great fit and do definitely bring a lot of comfort and support to each other.

The mystery that crops up in the narrative here is another interesting one and I felt it worked really well and also enhanced the secondary element of Neil coming to terms with his father's rapid decline from dementia as the case they end up investigating was one he dealt with when he was the town Sheriff.

We also get a super cute side plot with Archie employing Connor to search for his baby sister which made a bit of light relief shine through the more heavier elements of the story and it was good to catch up with all the previous couples in the series.

Overall book three remains my favourite but the series as a whole has definitely been a hit for me, each story has brought something different to the setting and they work well together with some of the more interconnected elements.

I'm definitely looking forward to the spin-off series which is coming later and featuring Connor's former Navy SEAL teammates.

This is the 4th book in the Whisper Ridge series, which should be read in order, as each book builds upon its predecessor. Thank you for the ARC, RJ!

I'm not going into the plot, as that is explained plenty by the blurb. Suffice it to say that Grumpy meets Gruff in this 4th book.

Neil Windham is the sheriff of Whisper Ridge, and he's not real happy with former Navy SEAL/PI Connor Mason, who seems to be trying to do his job for him. Connor, who came to town with Quinn (Summer Drifter), is very much intrigued by our good sheriff, but loves nothing more than to aggravate him, with a slightly stalkerish edge to the repeated encounters. The line between love and hate is very fine, indeed, and I thoroughly enjoyed each encounter these two men have, each one more sizzling than the next.

This author always brings the emotional side of the characters to life, and I had no trouble at all believing not only in the hot romance, but also in how these two men, raised to be strong and self-sufficient, find ways to rely on each other, with both of them softening their outer shells, realizing that bad situations are easier to handle with a partner by your side, going from struggling with their individual problems on their own to seeking help from the other.

I wouldn't call this enemies to lovers, though there are hints of this trope, as Neil and Connor aren't truly enemies. Neil is initially a bit suspicious of Connor, but equally attracted to the man, and Connor has been sticking around Whisper Ridge to see if he might have a future in this small Wyoming town. I felt the moment that Neil gives in to the attraction, to the feelings he's developing for Connor, and drops the walls he's built - it felt like a big exhale, finally.

There is also a bit of a mystery in this book, as bones and suitcases are found on the farm in a massive hole after a landslide that basically destroys the well. It is eventually revealed whose bones they are, and it answers some questions that some of the characters needed answered.

I felt very strongly when Neil realizes the inevitable has arrived, and he and his mother and sister have to come to a decision. There's some closure in that decision, and in a message from his father that Neil needed to hear. Similarly, Connor gets the answer he's been looking for, as he and Neil build a life together, and Connor finally belongs somewhere for good.

Do read this book, after you've read the other three in the proper order. Recommended!

Neil and Connor are both complex and well-developed characters. Their chemistry is undeniable, however, despite this, I did feel uncomfortable when Connor 's almost stalkerish behaviour emerged. At the beginning of the story Neil obviously wasn't ready to delve into a hook up or relationship of any sort with Connor or anyone else. He had so much going on! Connor just pushed and pushed Neil, which didn't sit well with me, especially since it was obvious that Neil found the situation so upsetting.

However, I do have to say that I've enjoyed the series as a whole very much. While this story does have its angsty moments, it also offers moments of sadness, tenderness and hope. There are some cute moments, like when Archie asks for Connor 's help to find his long lost sister, while the story of what was happening to Neil's dad was heartbreaking. I feel that RJ handled the whole topic of dementia with a lot of sensitivity, she made it seem very real, in the way that it affected Neil and his family. She also masterfully crafted, as usual, the mystery element. It delivered both tension and intrigue, and totally drew me, once again, into the lives of Neil, Connor, Micah, Daniel and the remainder of the gang. A decent ending to the series, with a hopeful conclusion.

I can relate with Neil about his father. I lost my Mother last year for Alzheimer's, and lost her while she was still alive, pained me. It's never easy, really.
Neil was lucky he had Connor (the determined stalker) to talk to and just be there.
Ever stubborn with his actual feeling for Connor, Neil finally surrendered and let him in.
This is my first book of the series, guess I need to read the previous books. Hence my reading mood 😂🤏

I really liked it. To me this is enemies to lovers made right. It's not just physical attraction, but it gets to an emotional understanding between Neil and Connor that makes them getting together not just believable but also really endearing and rewarding. The mystery is also really engaging, and meshes really well with the romance and their individual struggles.

Sheriff Neil and PI Connor….

Sheriff Neil is working too hard, and Connor is always popping up around town. They like each other but won’t admit it.
We get a mysterious story of family and friends, secrets, and sad pasts. Your emotions will be tested.
We open with a storm from Hell, lives are risked and a surprise unearthed.
The investigation will change lives.
Our men are hot as the sun and their feelings finally are spoken.
There are ups and downs, questions with no answers, but the characters help each other and solace is given.
Neil must also deal with his Dad’s health, too.
The pace is steady and we are excited to find out what, who, where and when.
ENJOY !

4.25/5 This was very entertaining. I think Connor might have driven me crazy IRL at the beginning with how he kept pulling pigtails with Neil, but it was amusing to read.  And I liked how clear it was as much as Neil complained that he felt the connection to Connor too, so it wasn't actually just one-sided annoyance. And they're both so very protective in their own ways, which gives them a good base when they have other opposing characteristics. They both needed the connection, and I enjoyed the slow shift to being really supportive of one another when they needed it.

It was nice to see more Whisper Ridge inhabitants from previous books. (The kids stole the show in their scenes!) Lots of Connor’s antics made me laugh.  The mystery about the bones was intriguing, and what was happening with Neil’s dad tugged at my heartstrings; sometimes, there is no fixing the situation, and you can only adapt and support one another.  I liked seeing Connor in this softer role helping to keep Neil together.  They definitely earned their HEA!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Into the Fall is the fourth and final book in the ‘Whisper Ridge’ series. It stars Sheriff Neil Windham, and Connor, a former Navy SEAL. This is told in first person from Neil and Connor’s pov.

First, I’ll start with the cover. It has the same muted, monotone type colors as the other books in the series. I like it. I’m not sure which character the cover model is supposed to be, it could be either one.

Before I get deep into my quite lengthy review, I’m going to mention that I haven’t read any of the previous books in this series. I’m going to rate how well the author clarified the other characters in this one, who they were and what they did. Also, how easy this book was to understand if someone decided to jump in and read this book, also about the scenes, and of course the main characters.

This book is NOT a stand-alone. The plot immediately throws the reader into conflict with the two main characters, Connor, and Neil, and then introduces us to a bunch of other characters who I’m pretty sure appeared in the other books. There seemed to be two gay couples, a brother and sister, also a friend of Connor’s who was also his boss.

Neil and Connor battle each other constantly, and it was extremely disturbing. Since I didn’t read the other books, I’m guessing their antagonistic head butting started a while ago and is carried into this book. Connor was always out of line, provoking Neil under the pretense of liking him. Connor’s behavior was stalkerish and sexually harassing. If Neil was a woman, or even another male, it would be considered abusive. Connor even broke into Neil’s house at one point. If that’s not creepy, I don’t know what is. I don’t find a pushy, aggressive man like that attractive or desirable in the least.

This felt like it was two books in one. The first forty percent was chaotic, with too many characters behaving in TSTL actions dealing with the landslide, which I’ll talk about in a bit, Connor attempting to take over whatever investigation that was going on, and Neil thinking too much with his other head instead of arresting Connor and putting him in jail for a few days. The last sixty percent, after Connor and Neil had sex, was a totally different story. Geared towards their romance, mostly figuring out who the bones belonged to and what to do about Neil’s father. It was far slower paced than the first part. The first part felt like it was trying to tie up all the loose ends from the previous books. There were far too many subplots careening around. For instance:

1) The bones in the well.
2) The missing gun which had to do with the brother and sister and the cult.
3) The townsman that parked in spaces he shouldn’t. (I think he was irrelevant)
4) The deputy that was going to retire.
5) The deputy that might be quitting.
6) The nephew that Neil had to show the sheriff’s duties
7) Neil’s father who was slowly mentally deteriorating.

I’m sure there were a couple more, but that’s all I can recall right now. Too many issues so that some of them only got glossed over, which means they really weren’t needed. The people who were introduced weren’t clarified enough during the first forty percent. They were more defined during the second part which is too late in the story.

Now I want to talk/rant about the TSTL actions of the characters at the beginning of the book. This is what I disliked most about the story. There is a torrential rainstorm which causes a huge landslide, enough for the characters to feel the earth rumble under their feet. The landslide moves huge boulders. What do the four-five of them do? They rush outside in the pouring rain, in muddy soil that is still slipping and sucking at their boots, and decide that they can push the boulders in place by hand to stop the river/stream from moving and heading for the house. Seriously? I read this and I almost stopped reading. There are youtube videos of landslides with water and boulders raging down mountains, it wipes out villages, and these, can’t put it any other way, idiots, think they can move boulders with their bare-hands, which torrential rain and mud have ripped from the earth. It was like I was reading an alternate universe urban fantasy. Superman could have done it, even Spiderman. We’re talking about normal humans here, it isn’t possible. No one in their right mind would do it. If anything, they’d have to bring in bulldozers to move the heavy, saturated mud and boulders. Honestly, it was one of the most impossible, insane scenes I’ve ever read. The characters could just have easily gone out the next day after the storm and looked. When I read contemporary fiction, I expect some semblance of reality. This wasn’t it.

On to Neil and Connor. Connor as I mentioned, is an arrogant creep. I didn’t like him, and nothing he did redeemed himself. I feel like he was like an abuser, taking advantage of Neil when he was vulnerable with all that was weighing Neil down concerning his father and the dead body. It was manipulative the way Connor moved on Neil. As for Neil, he had every right to lock Connor up, but didn’t. Neil could’ve cited Connor on any law and locked him away for a few days. Especially when he meddled with the body and the gun. Youtube shows examples of small-town cops and sheriffs using the law to arrest people. They don’t like anyone meddling with ‘their’ town. Neil wasn’t doing his job. Other than being too hung up on Connor, Neil was okay. Connor and Neil’s voices were close to sounding the same. Connor’s rude and snarky remarks were probably one of the only ways to tell who was talking. Connor’s voice completely changed during the second part once him and Neil were together.

I’ve been questioning the ratings that appear for books on Goodreads for a while now. I often wonder if people give certain authors high ratings because they are members of the author’s groups, or are friends, or if they met them at a convention and so feel loyalty. Then the ratings aren’t really based on the actual writing quality and aren’t helpful when pondering about whether to read or purchase a book. I’ve read many of this author’s books and enjoyed some and not others. I subscribe to her newsletter and her newsletter stories are enjoyable. This story doesn’t match the quality of many of her other stories. It feels like this was a rush job, especially the first half, to get loose ends tied up and finished for the next series that spins off this one, which is about the members of Connor’s ex SEAL team.

There were too many things that annoyed me, mainly the characters and the unrealistic, ‘let’s push boulders in the pouring rain with our bare hands’ scene, also that Connor was a stalking creeper, and the distinct feeling this was two books in one. I do have the first book in this series which I’ll go back and read; it’ll explain some of the characters. Overall, I didn’t enjoy Into the Fall so I’ll give it, 2 Stars, which I realize is a vastly different rating than most of the other readers. But maybe someone will find it useful.

I received an ARC from the author and am giving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Heavy rains, landslides and mysteries Oh My!
Then add in old friends, celebrations, irritations, hanky and panky.
This story hooked me from paragraph one!
Connor and Neil rubbed each other the wrong way until they couldn't deny what they both wanted and needed from the other.
Through storms and discoveries, surprises and sadness, Connor and Neil were a no-brainer as far as having a future together. It just took them getting out of their own ways and FINALLY seeing that they not only needed and wanted each other but deserved to find their happiness.
To say they had spirited and intense conversations at the beginning, not to mention hot, is an understatement.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing old favorites from previous books in this.. to see how their relationships have grown since we saw them last.

Watching Connor and Neil circle each other then become "them" was entertaining and lovely.

They help each other through tough times and I was extremely happy when something occured between them!
I highly recommend this book.

I am also very excited about the trilogy that is coming too.

Sheriff Neil Windham is so intense and blustery and damn near edible. Former Navy SEAL Connor Mason is a magnet for trouble and chaos. So, of course, it makes perfect sense that Scott throws them together, stirs the pot and then lets them work it out.

Both Neil and Connor are strong characters and are quite delightful together. Characters from the first three books in the series make appearances, and it’s like catching up with old friends. But it’s the support these two men give one another that is inspiring.

I “Just one more chapter”’d it through the last third (or more) of the book, absolutely unable to put down this series conclusion. Scott had me totally and completely hooked. There was no quitting and going to bed; I absolutely had to see it through to its end. 5 stars.

While I’m sad to see this outstanding series end, this last book is terrific and I loved it. The story is about Connor and Neil, who were previously secondary characters in the other books. and it’s great that they are getting their own story. Their intense attraction to each other, which they try to ignore, provokes strong reactions whenever they meet, and their slow-burn, love-hate relationship is great to watch develop. As they begin working together to solve a sudden mystery, affecting some of the previous characters, they reluctantly admit to their feelings and also confront heartbreak in their lives. This enemies-to-lovers story is filled with emotion, intrigue and heat. I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this final book in the Whisper Ridge series.

This is an enemies to lovers which made it very entertaining to read. I love that Neil and Connor come from different backgrounds, have their own unique problems but come together and help each other when needed.

I enjoyed reading their relationship develop and how RJ included great characters from the previous books.

This book really pulled at my heart with the dementia part of storyline. As someone who has a member of their family with dementia, I was very appreciative of how RJ sensitively handled this in the book.

Overall, a great end to a wonderful series.

I absolutely loved these two! The push and pull between Neil and Connor was electric. Connor wants to keep his friends safe and Neil just wants to do his job to protect and care for the citizens of Whisper Ridge. I wasn’t expecting the twist but it was so good. These two fit together and are a perfect addition to the rest of this series!

Note: I'm going to start my review off with a little personal feelings because I can't think of a better way to put voice to how this book effected me, I understand if that makes you uncomfortable so just scroll down a couple of paragraphs.

Can't believe we've reached the end of Whisper Ridge, Wyoming but truthfully, I can't think of a more emotionally charged and beautiful send off. I rarely cry while reading, the tears well up but rarely fall, mostly due to location and time. As my mom's 24/7 caregiver I tend to read when I can and I don't want her to see my crying when she needs something and I also do a considerable amount of reading in Mayo Clinic waiting rooms.

Back to "rarely crying while reading", Into the Fall was one of those rare times. As mentioned above, I'm my mother's fulltime caregiver so I'm also very aware when it comes to stories with caregiving elements and willing to be critical if the author misrepresents something. Well, RJ Scott does it right and Into the Fall hasn't been her first story to have a caregiver element and her other stories have also been the rare times the tears fell. I have not had any personal experience with dementia or Alzheimer's diagnosis, both of my parents had aunts that were dealt the dementia blow but we didn't have much contact with them(not for the dementia reason just the way it worked out with timing and location) I have however dealt with short term memory issues. My grandmother was diagnosed that although even as her caregiver I was not made aware of that until she was admitted into the hospital for the last time. 85% of the time she was the grandma I grew up knowing and 15% of the time she was the kind of person you crossed the street to avoid, the problem was you spent that 85% walking on eggshells trying not to trigger the 15%. I'm sorry for digressing into personal experience but the point of sharing this is to express how amazingly accurate RJ Scott brings Neil's family heartache to life and to explain why Into the Fall was one of those rare crying books for me because her accuracy tugged at my heart so deeply and though it brought back a few heart-hurt memories it all gave me a chance to release some that I had boxed away these past 13 years since my grandmother passed. So Thank You, RJ Scott for once again going that extra mile to make the emotions real, to respecting the heartache.

Okay let's talk Into the Fall.

I was so hoping we'd get to see more of Conner when he was introduced back in book 2, Summer Drifter and I was not disappointed. Conner is a man who needs to be in control, needs something to do and that puts him in the path of Neil, the town sheriff. Not in a malicious way but because he does a few things that a civilian shouldn't. But as a former SEAL Conner cannot stand by when assistance in required, at least that's how he sees it, Neil on the other hand has other thoughts on the matter.

Neil has his hands full dealing with Conner but he has so much more on his plate, short staffed, Mother Nature, and his family learning to live with his father's aggressive form of dementia. How much can one man take? Perhaps if he lets Conner do his thing Neil won't find himself spread so thin? Mother Nature's plans throw a new hurdle in his path as bones are discovered on the Lennox Ranch after a mudslide and once again Conner jumps in to action, quite literally as the landscape beneath the bones threatens to erode even more. Neil's answer: cuff him and arrest him. So much for lightening the load😉.

I'm not going to spoil further, just know that Conner and Neil find themselves dealing with not only their attraction and chemistry but also family, friends, bones, and potential murder mystery. Now I know I made Into the Fall sound like a highly charged heart-breaking drama and there are those elements of course but there is also plenty of love, humor, romance, and heat to make this an all around enjoyably entertaining read that may hurt the heart at times but always warms and heals too.

If you are new to Whisper Ridge, Wyoming and are wondering about reading order, yes each entry is a new couple but there are story points that carry over as well as characters that play a part. I suppose technically you could call it a standalone series with new couples at the forefront but I can't imagine reading out of order, friendships deepen and characters grow that would seem odd to see said connections go backwards if read differently than released. However you read it, this is a series that will warm your heart and fill you with hope.

**4.5**
Another wonderful romance from RJ Scott. This one is full of back and forth between the town Sheriff, Neil, and ex Navy SEAL, Connor, in an enemies to lovers style but it's more than Connor is just annoying and likes to get a rise out of Connor as he doesn't know how else to interact with the man. A little like pulling pigtails in primary school!
The small town and people of Whisper Ridge are clearly important to Connor, and having followed in his father's footsteps, may feel even more responsibility for them. Along with that, there is his father who has recently developed dementia so that's a worry and stress on the family. What he doesn't need is Connor appearing at most of his scenes either as a possible aggressor or..... No, just that.
Connor finds himself in an unusual time of his life in which he doesn't really have anything to do. He's down as Quinn's manager of security but with him safe up on the mountain with his partner, he's at a bit of a loss. It's probably why he annoys Neil so much, hovering around town, wanting everyone to be safe but maybe not going about it in the way an officer of the law would.
When the two men finally come together, Neil still tries to step away, sure that Connor isn't right for him but Connor is nothing if not determined. What's a little bit of following the man home, or a teensy bit of breaking and entering (but being sure to make sure to trip the alarm) between friends/foes. Their chemistry is hot and makes for a feat read. When it comes down to it, they make a great team and offer a huge amount of support to each other, something Neil needs especially at the moment, with his dad's health declining.
A great small town romance, everyone knows everyone, which is both good and bad, as Neil tries to make sure the town is safe for everyone, whether that's through bad storms and landslides or current or past crimes. These two men make for a great couple and I hope we haven't heard the last of their banter.
I will say that if reading about someone with dementia and the decline they go through, this isn't for the faint of heart. One scene, especially, brought a tear to the eye

INTO THE FALL is the fourth book in the Whisper Ridge, Wyoming series. It can be read as a standalone without issue. I haven't read anything else in the series and I didn't feel like I was missing any information regarding these (or other) characters.

Connor came to Whisper Ridge to protect and run security for his boss but now that his boss is in love and happy Connor isn't needed as much. He's a former Navy SEAL so sitting around without a mission has him climbing the walls. The one thing that keeps him occupied is going toe to toe with the sexy sheriff, Neil. Connor wants to protect the town and when secrets from the passed are about to be exposed he'll do everything he has to, to keep the people he cares about safe.

Connor is a thorn in Neil's side. Neil loves this town and issues that are happening somehow have Connor's name attached. Neil isn't sure which emotion Connor brings out more rage or lust. Should he get involved with the ex SEAL or should he just walk away?

Neil and Connor have more heated encounters than should be allowed but with each one they can't seem to stay away from each other. When they finally give in to the attraction their chemistry is off the charts. I loved how Neil was able to let Connor in and lean on him when he needed his the most when his dad's illness quickly gets worse. As much as Connor wants to feel like he belonged like he did with his SEAL team, but he couldn't quite let anyone in until Neil helps him break down his walls. I really enjoyed this small town and the vibe it had.

Seeing the side characters and getting a small snippet of their stories I will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the series.

I was given a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Another wonderful story from RJ Scott!

If you read the previous book in this series, Spring Rains, you probably remember that Sheriff Neil Windham and former Navy SEAL Connor Mason, had a bit of a frenemy situation going on. Into the Fall finally lets them escalate that into so much more and I loved every minute of it. While you might be able to read this as a standalone story, I think you will get more out of it if you’ve read the other books in this series. Some things that were hinted at in the previous book are resolved in this one.

Above and beyond what the blurb says, I have to say that this book had me nearly sobbing in one place but then soon after had me smiling. The tears were because of something very touching that happened to Neil and his family so please don’t think that the entire book is sad because it isn’t. In fact, this was a real page turner for me because of the mystery other things happening with the ensemble cast.

If you’re looking for something super spicy, I don’t think you’ll find it in this story but if you’re looking for an entertaining read, that will keep you engaged the entire time you’re reading it, I enthusiastically recommend this book and the entire series.

One final note, as I was reading, I felt like there were lots of little hints about new books and sure enough, at the end it was confirmed. There will be a new series in 2026 that’s kind of a spin off of this one and I can’t wait to read all the books. ❤

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

A fitting end to a really good series with storms, torrential rain, landslides, uncovered bones, steam and romance, I loved it.

This story is about Connor and Neil, who were previously secondary characters in the other books. It’s great to watch their attraction to each other develop. I wouldn’t call them true enemies to lovers as the chemistry between them from the start was intense, although Neil was reluctant to have anything to do with Connor and found him irritating. Connor an ex SEAL and working for Quinn as his head of security, and being bored as now Quinn was happily settled with Levi, made it his mission to be everywhere Neil was. If there wasn’t an attraction this would have bordered on stalking!

When Neil finally gave in it was explosive. They begin working together on the mystery of the bones found in the landslip which affects some of the previous characters as they were on Micha and Daniel ranch, and RJ creates a page turner of a mystery with tension and intrigue.

There were some tear jerking moments around Neil’s dad’s dementia and these were written sensitively and with care, and I loved that Connors softer side came out as he supported Neil, and some heartwarming moments around the kids and little Archie paying Connor his saved pocket money to find his three year old stepsister.

Whilst I am sorry that Whisper Ridge has come to an end I am excited to see what RJ does with the new series starring Connor’s friends and ex SEALS and their security firm.

I received an ARC in return for an honest opinion and I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

Gripping, Emotional, and Romantic

"Into the Fall" by RJ Scott is a captivating M/M romance that masterfully blends suspense, drama, and passion. Set in small-town Wyoming, this enemies-to-lovers tale follows Sheriff Neil Windham and former Navy SEAL Connor Mason as they navigate their fiery chemistry amidst a mysterious threat.

The characters are expertly crafted:

- Neil, the dedicated sheriff, is rugged, principled, and fiercely protective.
- Connor, the battle-hardened SEAL, is brooding, loyal, and haunted.

Their opposites-attract dynamic sparks constant clashes, but as they work together, vulnerability and understanding emerge. The romance simmers, fueled by witty banter, intense moments, and heartfelt connections.

Scott's writing excels:

- Vivid descriptions of Wyoming's vast landscapes
- Well-paced mystery with unexpected twists
- Emotional depth, grief, and trust

The supporting cast adds depth, particularly Connor's loyal friends and Neil's supportive family.

*Highlights:*

- Sizzling chemistry between Neil and Connor
- Engaging mystery with surprising revelations
- Emotional character growth and development

*Recommendation:*

"Into the Fall" is perfect for fans of M/M romance, suspense, and small-town stories. If you enjoy authors like Josh Lanyon or SE Jakes, you'll love RJ Scott's work.

Book 4 in the Whisper Ridge, Wyoming series and I'd say to get the full enjoyment it should be read in order.

I LOVED the book, I'd even say it was my favourite of the series.
I was completely delighted that we got to see already known characters again and that they were still an important part of this new story.

Connor and Neil, our MCs, were already secondary characters in the other books so I was happy to see them get their own story. The emotions were so clear and the attraction Neil and Connor felt for each other was tangible. I could practically feel it too. Their chemistry was off the charts and
I was rooting for them so hard!
They were likeable and felt real, with their own problems and flaws. They had to work on the development of their relationship and I completely believed their course.

The interwoven mystery made it all the more interesting and gave the reader more than solely a 'love story'. It captivated me and I really couldn't stop reading. I needed to know what was going on.

I definitely enjoyed the read and was very entertained.

Thanks RJ, you really made me very happy with this new book.

PS: Neil's father's health problems nearly broke me since I know exactly how hard that is to handle and accept.

I loved this series from the start, but maybe this is my favorite book so far. I really can't decide.
The dynamic between Neil and Connor was amazing. The attraction between them was scorching hot and was palpable in previous books, so I was hoping that they'll get their story. Well the author delivered - big time!
Local sheriff Neil is doing everything he can to deny the attraction to the world and mostly to himself, but relentless, brazen and patient former SEAL Connor knows what he wants and he won't stop until ge gets it. They are both caught up in solving some old and buried mysteries, along with heartbreaking Neil's family issues. I've rarely read so accurate and heartbreaking insight into dementia, that's sadly become a disease of modern times (or it's maybe just more acknowledged and reaserched) that can affect anyone. Talking from first hand experience...
Connor is somewhat uprooted, but he's becoming to realize, day by day, that Whisper Ridge feels like home .
So their bond groves from initial attraction to reluctant friendship and before they realize it to much more.
I truly hope this is not the end. Connor's and Quin's plans leave a huge opening for this series to continue. Holding my fingers crossed 🤞

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fourth book in the series, and I ready do commend it to you as a whole - I do think that this installment would be richer if you had read the previous books first.

Neil and Connor have been circling their attraction to each other for a while, but Neil feels it is inappropriate, and he has his father's declining health to cope with; and Connor has closed himself off from living a full life as he doesn't feel he deserves to ... fortunately they manage to overcome these issues and both work together and get closer privately too.

Their work relationship is important in cementing their respect and support for each other and they achieve an enviable balance in the end.

It was lovely to get to see all previous couples in their new situations and I am delighted that there is going to be a new linked series coming up from this talented author.

Neil and Connor are two strong men, mentally and physically. They are instantly attracted to each other but they had to work toward that HEA. Neil is dealing with his father's Dementia and I think Rj wrote it in a good way. This isn't an easy disease for anyone to have or for their loved ones to have either way. In some ways it's harder on the ones not affected because they know what they're missing, the one with Dementia eventually forgets. I liked that Connor was there to support Neil in his time of need. Connor did stalk Neil and I think he was towing the line of inappropriate but didn't cross it. There's a mystery that was nice to read as well. I think the story was well written and it was nice to read about the characters from previous books. Connor and Neil had really good chemistry and when they did come together it was hot. I'm really sorry to see this series end but I know Rj will have something equally good coming soon. Definitely recommend this series and author.

I have greatly enjoyed this series and the challenges the men overcame to find their love. This book features Sheriff Neil Windham and ex-SEAL/security specialist Connor Mason. Connor is highly attracted to Neil and his prickly ways. Connor makes Neil so angry that it seems that he is purposely provoking Neil. He's right; if Connor can't get Neil's positive attention, he will take his constant grousing.

The story heats up during a mud slide that reveals bones and an old suitcase. Who do they belong to? In addition to that mystery, Neil is dealing with the cognitive decline of his father and its impact on the family. Connor is trying to figure out his own next moves and if there is any way that could involve Neil.

The family and friends group remains strong and supportive. A beautiful forever love finds its way. I'm sad to see Whisper Ridge end, but I'm hopeful it may show up in future books, as hinted in this story. I can highly recommend reading the entire series!

I was looking forward to Neil and Connor’s story but sad to see this series wrap up. I’ve enjoyed reading about the characters in this small Wyoming town and thought Neil and Connor were a good send off.

Both characters have been constants through the series and although they approach things from different angles, both have the safety and security of the town and its people as their primary concern so it was fitting that these two would end up with one another.

Connor has been a thorn in Neil’s side as his unconventional style frustrates the traditional small town sheriff. But he’s just the perfect person to help Neil deal with some difficult personal issues that he’s been facing and finally get the emotional support he needs. Seeing these two work through their issues and finally realize the feelings they have for one another was a good read and a great ending for the series. Looking forward to see what Connor’s former team get themselves into!

4 Stars

I liked both Connor and Neil, but what I couldn’t quite figure out was why Neil hated Connor so much! But Connor didn’t give up on Neil and he worked himself into his heart. Once the hate turned to love, they were great together. They had good chemistry and were such a great support system for one another.

This was not only a nice romance, but the mystery portion of the story was interesting, as well. Although this book can be read as a standalone, it’s probably best to read them in order, because there is a story arc that ties everything together.

This story closed out the series nicely and was an enjoyable and recommendable read!

3.5

I'm going to start off by saying I enjoyed the idea of Neil and Connor together. In the previous book, I liked them as characters and looked forward to their story. I found their story to be quite good.
That being said, onto the slight downside. I found a few fluctuations to the consistency of their story. One chapter it's stay away at all costs followed by the next chapter, I must not leave his side to the next chapter distance again. I understand that sometimes ya got to have angst, but there are places where it flip-flopped too quickly for my liking.
And last but not least, there were a few sub plots that felt like they came out of nowhere to me. Very little build up to them. It ki da made me feel like they were a little bit of an afterthought.

Into the fall is book 4 in the Whisper Ridge, Wyoming series by R.J. Scott. It is a wonderful addition to a series I have very much enjoyed reading.
The story is about Connor and Neil, who were previously secondary characters in the other books. and it’s great that they are getting their own story.
The chemistry is undeniable between them but they both have things that they are dealing with in life. I loved seeing how their relationship developed and how there were great characters from the previous books included in this story.
This was a real page turner for me because of the mystery other things happening with the ensemble cast.
Loved it!
