What Ghost?

Rate this book
Fifteen-year-old Billy Pellens is horrified when his parents tell him he has to go to boarding school for a year. It means leaving all his friends and having to adjust to a completely new life.

Ok, so big deal?

Yeah right, except the spirit of his twin sister Becky, who died at birth, refuses to move on. Somehow, she has always managed to age at the same rate as him, so now she'll be 'residing' with him in a dorm full of teenage boys.

Becky may be just a ghost, but she still has wants and needs like any teenage girl. Going to boarding school with Billy presents a whole new world of possibilities. Surely there'll be some like-minded spirits hanging around a place like that? Billy is cool, and she loves him, but sometimes the 'alives' just don't get it.

Hellesville College is about to get a long overdue shakeup!

So many people, at some stage in their lives, decide they should/could/will write a book. Great idea…why not? How hard can it be, right? WRONG!
Hmmm...I remember thinking all those things too. Although I did have one advantage a lot of other writers don’t have when they first start writing…my husband agreed that I should stop working fulltime and just concentrate on writing for a while. At 53 I figured better late than never, I dived in boots and all. Knowing how lucky I was to be in that position, I dived headlong into learning everything I could about writing fiction. Hundreds of hours later, after downloading and reading everything I could find on the internet (and hardly scratching the surface of the information available) I realized that writing a book was one of those things you needed to just start doing and learn as you go.
Anyway, I could go on forever about the highs and lows I experienced during the actual writing process. Needless to say, I got there…all the blood sweat and tears finally behind me as I blithely typed “The End”. WRONG AGAIN!

A fun story of ghosts and angels, this is a great read for a rainy afternoon. The characters are believable, the problems they face exciting, and the expected happy ending didn't disappoint. I loved the Council of Archangels and the upbeat, slightly irreverent but in no way blasphemous, treatment of the whole Guardian Angel concept.

Loved it

This amazing ghost story was more a story of first love. I liked the characters and was rooting for them to be happy. It brought me back to high school and the feelings of love and how hard it can sometimes be. I hope the author plans a part two to this book!

What Ghost? by Jennifer Redmile is a fun and imaginative paranormal story for young adults that will keep your interest from start to finish - regardless of your age.

Billy has to go to a boarding school for a year while his parents are out of the country. Becky was Billy's twin sister who died at birth, but whose ghost follows Billy wherever he goes. Becky accompanies Billy to boarding school and her presence is hard to hide, but Billy gives it his best try while several other students are set on finding and capturing the spirit(s) that is/are haunting the prep school.

This was a very fun and entertaining read. The characters were well developed and the story proceeded at a good pace. It was hard not to like Billy Becky, as they bought were typical teenage kids with typical teenage wants and likes.

I would recommend this for those who like paranormal fantasy fiction - ages 16 and up.

A simply told tale of young love-and ghosts

This story is written in a clean, simple style. I think late elementary or early middle-grade students would find it entertaining. Ghosts falling in love was a new concept for me. Not sure exactly how I felt about that, but if you are looking for a sweet paranormal romance suitable for a younger crowd, look no farther. The writing is sound and clear. The author has nice pacing and the story has a satisfying conclusion.

Cute story. The idea is good, I just wish the delivery was a little stronger. My main criticism is the insta-love experienced by everyone in the book. Everyone fell in love within 3 days. Unlikely. I wish the details about the defeat of the had been detailed rather than just hinted. In short, I wish there was more story in general. More details, more descriptions, more character development. It reads a bit like fan fiction and not the good kind.

I thought this was a really cute, easy to read story that would be good for teens/pre-teens. It takes place in a boarding school and features nice kids as well as some very nice ghosts. Nothing scary here folks - I think it would be a "G" rating or maybe "PG" - there's a bit of kissing going on but not much more than that. A fun, fast read.
