Fracture: A Novel

Rate this book
When time fractures, chaos reigns.

At the Museum of Natural History in New York City, paleontologist Noah Clark is about to unveil his greatest discovery. However, on the day the curtain is set to rise, a cosmic event shatters reality.

The remnants of a colossal supernova strike Earth, engulfing it in a swirling alien fog charged with crackling electricity. Noah, along with everyone else, is left dazed and nauseous. He staggers outside and watches in horror as a Tyrannosaurus rex emerges from the otherworldly miasma and cuts down a bewildered pedestrian.

And the rex isn’t alone…

The unthinkable has The Cretaceous Period—a chapter in Earth’s history ruled by the largest and most dangerous creatures to ever exist—has been hurled sixty-five million years forward in time, inexplicably colliding with our own.

Will Noah and the rest of humanity survive this prehistoric invasion, or will they become prey, driven to extinction in a world reclaimed by its former masters?

FRACTURE beautifully showcases international bestselling author Matt James’ passion for thrilling adventure and edge-of-your-seat suspense, as well as his deep, childlike adoration for dinosaurs.

*If you wish to know more about the animals used in this novel, there is a brief summary of each one after the last chapter. Wait until you’ve read the story to check it out to avoid spoilers.

“Fracture” was certainly a page-turner in the style of Indiana Jones. The group in the book went from one harrowing encounter with dinosaurs to another. However, unlike Indiana Jones, there was no Ark of the Covenant or Holy Grail they were ultimately pursuing. They just kept getting out of nail-biters. It was a fun read but I was left feeling "that's it?" at the end.

A pleasant surprise!

Fracture is a book about the remains of an ancient supernova causing creatures from the Cretacious period to be thrown into modern day New York, throwing a family, a paleontologist and a cop together trying to survive. Sarah, and her kids Kyle and Becca are at the museum of natural history and run into Noah, the paleontologist, literally before everything goes wrong, and Mike, the cop, in the immediate aftermath. All types of prehistoric creatures are encountered, each posing unique survival challenges to the group. The characters are very well written, particularly Becca, the dialog good, with just a hint of humor thrown in, the plot and pacing are just right. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed Jurassic Park, or happens to have a love of dinosaurs. Not recommended for the youngest audiences due to violence, but anyone about 12 and up should be able to handle/enjoy it! 4.5/5 stars!

I really, really wanted to like this novel. I had read Matt James’ “Dark Island” trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a disappointment for me. First, even one nicked line from Jurassic Park would have been one too many, however, there were several. The dialogue between the characters was cheesy, and the idea that the National Guard, or even the NYPD (save for one character), were completely absent while one of the most important cities in the world is getting destroyed by animals from Earth’s past makes no sense at all. I struggled to finish this book which I was ready to put down after the third chapter.

Noah is in New York for the exhibition of the dinosaur him and his father found years ago. Things are going good until the earth is suddenly changed by an asteroid strike that brings dinosaurs to life. Noah along with a New York City cop named Mike band together with a mother and her two children to try and survive an armageddon like event. As they race for safety away from the dinosaurs will they and the rest of humanity survive the new Earth or will humans end up extinct themselves?

A thrilling adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The suspense builds as two worlds collide, creating an unforgettable listening experience. Matt James crafts a well-written story filled with a diverse cast of fascinating characters, from a curious young girl captivated by dinosaurs to an ageing palientologist. Steve Connor’s narration brings each character vividly to life, enhancing the tension and excitement. A highly recommended listen.

A thrilling and riveting wild and entertaining read.

I loved this book. Great characters, well paced, interesting and well researched. I looked forward to reading it every time the weather was horrible, I couldn’t work outside and so I could sneak off to be by myself and just enjoy it.
Heartily recommend it.

A damned fun book.

This was a excellent book. The storytelling was compelling and the characters were likable and relatable. I felt like I was with them every step of the way and cannot wait to read the next installment to see what they are up to. Never have I read a book with so much slaughter with such a big smile on my face. Enjoy!

Action for the sake of action. Mixed with heavy emotions of sorts. The author obviously loves dinos, but it is not enough to write a decent story. The main characters act like they know what is going on and what they need to do to survive. But nothing is explained. And the ending… just does not make any sense. Won’t be wasting money on another gem by this author.

Great read!

You get attached to the characters and their plight in this non-stop action thriller. As a dinosaur nerd myself, I appreciated the diversity of creatures and the sense of peril our heroes encountered at each turn of events. My favorite parts have to be the “battle royale” scene and the dreadnougtus part.

Jurassic adventure

Dinosaurs show up in modern day New York. A cop, a paleontologist, Sarah and her 2 children band together trying to survive the Jurassic apocalypse that has been trusted upon them. The characters are relatable and with loads of dino mayhem, you cheer and pray for them to make it to safety. Read to find out!

I really loved this book. It's not necessarily a new idea, but the author carried it out well. I liked the characters, the action kept me racing through the book. I found myself wanting more about the characters and to find out what happened after the book ended. It was the first book by this author that I'd read, and I'm already diving into another!

Nonstop entertainment from beginning to end. This was pure adrenaline. Maybe not a realistic scenario but it was probably the most enjoyable book I’ve read in a while.

Interesting

Different type of survival stores. I like books about dinosaurs and survival. Mixing that in a city landscape made it unique. I enjoyed it, a lot of action.
