Darkly funny, relatable and unflinchingly honest, Is it My ADHD? gives irreverent and intersectional insight into what life is like for women living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Much like the 3-4% of the British population with ADHD, Grace Timothy always felt on the outskirts of 'normal'. After a lifetime of mental and physical symptoms that didn't quite add up, she was finally diagnosed in 2021.

At the time, information was scant. Now, neurodivergence is the hot topic on everyone's lips. With this increased awareness, we've encountered a new how can we circumnavigate the misinformation and better understand our own brains?

Writer and podcaster Grace Timothy speaks to those living with ADHD to explore traits specific to women, grounding each chapter in clinical research and expert commentary. Offering comfort and real, triedand-tested tips along the way, this book is for anyone who's ever wondered, is it my ADHD?

This is a well-researched book about ADHD which will especially be useful for women with ADHD diagnosed later in life. Grace intertwines her own experiences with research, expertise from professionals and other ADHD’ers experience, which gives a truly comprehensive view of ADHD. I especially found the chapter about health and hormones very insightful.

In the assessment and diagnosis chapter, one of the doctors states that ADHD can be assessed by psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and paediatricians. They later say that in the future ‘more junior healthcare professionals’ like certain groups of nurses may be able to conduct screenings but specialist nurses do assess and diagnose (many are non-medical prescribers). Many NHS ADHD assessment teams (especially for children) are nurse-led. But it’s great that Grace has spoken to a variety of professionals and people with ADHD.

A fantastic insight into how ADHD can present in girls and women.
Having recently had a diagnosis myself this has helped me understand what parts of my life have been as a result of my neuro divergence and what parts have been my personality.
It's well written and researched as well as personable.
I'll be pressing this into the hands of friends and family.

This is a pretty stock standard memoir/self help book of 'this is how my ADHD journey is gone/Some quotes for other people with scientific stats to back me up'.

That’s not the say it's bad or good or anything. It’s just not a groundbreaking book about ADHD. I’m sure if you’re a fan of Grace Timothy and her podcast (of which I am not), you’ll get a lot more out of this and I did. Definitely think this one is going to be more appreciated by her fans more than someone like me who is just picking up the book and reading it because for me there is nothing that stands out. I did still enjoy it and do recommend people read it because even if all you walk away with is just refreshing yourself the symptoms or the experience or the one you connect with it’s still worth reading.

I’ve been exploring this subject for some time now and this is hands down the best book I’ve ever read about women and ADHD. I started tagging paragraphs that felt relatable, and at 10 tags within the first 20 pages, I stopped tagging and instantly booked myself in for an ADHD assessment. My only gripe, as others have mentioned, is that it is very UK-centric regarding diagnosis and protocol. I found it relatively easy (though very expensive) to book the screener and assessment in Australia. I believe that soon even GPs will be able to diagnose ADHD, which will go a long way to ease the financial burden of assessment. I’d recommend this to anyone with an inkling, a diagnosis, or a loved one going through the same.

Wow. Definitely wish I read something like this a lot sooner. Some really great anocdotes and experiences from different neurodivergent women. It’s nice to hear different perspectives added in as well as the narrators, so I think there’s at least something that individuals with ADHD can resonate with, even if it doesn’t mirror your own experience exactly.

Highly recommended read (especially for any mother's) with ADHD. I found this such a great and informative read. Grace offers up-to-date scientific based personal anecdotes that are easily identifiable to those of us with ADHD. She is a talented author and her style of writing felt like a chat with a knowledgeable friend. I feel seen :)

Cant wait to read her parenting book!!!

Only put 4 stars because it was geared towards the UK audience and medical protocol which was harder to relate to. But I felt the other parts were very helpful and extremely relatable.

3.5 This book is primarily anecdotal, which as a late-diagnosed adhd person was really interesting and affirming to read

Read it to understand the women around me better and to see what the process is for a test. Very interesting and very well written; quirky, funny and honest, the best ingredients for any kind of story!
