Dreamless: The Protectors

Rate this book
In the beginning, when the battle for heaven was won and the rebellious angels were cast into hell, not every angel had a place. Those who hadn't chosen a side were sentenced to exist between the two parallels...earth. The angels who repented were called the Fallen, peaceful angles that existed amongst mankind. Those who rejected their punishment became known as the First, angels that survived by stealing souls. Over time, a First and Fallen unite and the Protectors were born. Eighteen year old Mira Daly had one goal, get out of Redding, WY and never look back. That was until her best friend goes missing the day before graduation. Chloe's disappearance brings back haunting memories of her father, and through the help of some unexpected new friends, the story of who he was and what she's meant to be unfolds. With a living, breathing, nightmare determined to destroy her, Mira knows the only way to survive is to accept her fate and meet this demon in battle.

I am a big fan of books on angels, demons, fallen angels I love them but I found that most books I find about them is that they are all the same!!! same storyline!! same same same!!
so imagine how glad I was that when I started dreamless that from the start it was DIFFERENT ( yay :))
from the start we are drawn in with this story.
it starts with chloe following a boy on a trek to a cave only it's not for the reasons she believes.
the next day chloe is declared missing and we get introduced to Mira who by the way is not like your normal teenager she has an attitude, she doesn't care about the kids at school only her best friends Gracie and Chloe, she doesn't even notice the boys at school she just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town.
with chloe missing it opens up a whole new world to Mira and she learns the world's not as simple as she thought and she's not exactly normal neither is Gracie and the two hotties she's all of a sudden friends with.
I won't tell you the story but i will say It's not a case of a fallen angels wanting to rule and nephelim are going to stop then NO THIS IS NOT A BORING SAME OLE STORY lol
first we have children born with Dragon bodies and different colours and black eyes
we have minions
we have firsts
we have soul sucking
we have powers
we have a non negotiating guardian angel who ends up negotiating
we have the phrase just like your Mom
we have a mother with her own kick ass ancestry
we have Marcus, Gracie, Stephan and Mira
we have protectors

I loved the friendship of Gracie and Mira, definitely two peas in a pod and I love the whole just like your Mom it had me in stitches just the way it's said and the reactions they get off the boys when they throw it into a conversation
we have romance in the form of Stephen and Mira which everyone loves a soul mate story line and even through its present it doesn't take over the story.
I loved Susan Miras mum and Scott. also the story of Paul and how much he loved his family and how alike him and Mira are had me laughing when the guardian angel made the comments just like paavos.
I really think this series will be one to watch as its got so much potential for more to come and I'm curious to meet this guardian angel if we ever do oh and see how Marcus and Gracie do as a couple :)

This is the fourth of Erin Manbeck’s books that I have read. Dreamless is a stand alone, where the first three were The Gifted Trilogy. I loved them all.

Dreamless starts slow. There is a lot of background that the reader has to know for the rest of the story to make sense. While I love when a book pulls you in from the first page, I also enjoy knowing the entire story. Make it through the first part of this book and you will not be able to put it down.
I was truly invested in Mira’s life. I wanted to know if she comes to terms with her dad’s death. Did Mira figure out what the guardian angel was telling her, solving all of the riddles being thrown at her? Could she be strong enough to prove herself a talented fighter? I also loved her relationship with her mother. While it is not a huge part of the story, I found myself comparing their relationship to that of my family’s. They had a great sense of humor and were able to talk about anything, which is what every mom wants to have with their daughter.

The romance in this story was typical high schooler. Hot and steamy, whiling holding back and taking caution not to move too fast too quickly. I enjoyed seeing the couples circle each other and then finally admit their feelings, but still knowing there was too much happening for them to move too fast. I am not sure I could be as open and accepting as Mira’s mom, but I did like that instead of criticizing she supported and gave sound advice.

Erin Manbeck is an author I will not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a great paranormal story. I happily and totally recommend Dreamless.

Wow! Erin Manbeck is a gifted storyteller. I loved this book. The plot was intriguing. The characters were great and well developed. The pacing was fabulous - however I'm right there with Mira, anxious to know all the facts, about to strangle Gracie for not just spitting it out. lol Secrets and lies would drive me crazy, too. I loved how it all unfolded, though. And I especially loved that there was no love triangle. I am such a sucker for soul mates and men waiting for the women they love. awww I'm such a girl.. But ssshhhh... don't tell anyone.

The characters were all awesome. I love what we find out about Mira's mom at the end. And the compromises made me chuckle. Good for you Paul & Mira!

The author has mentioned that this might be a series and I sincerely hope so because this was a fabulous story. And I feel the characters have more to share. Plus, Mira's journey is just beginning. =)

Another great book by Mrs. E. Manbeck! Mira is trying to outrun her nightmare, who is determined to get what it wants...her! This book, which has is a different story than her trilogy, also has some great characters. Dreamless will definitely keep you guessing until the end...
