In Ark, clean air is currency, obedience is a cage, and Ember's survival demands a rebellion against both—or she'll cease to exist.
Ember Bridgem has spent her life following the rules of
Rule one—never leave home before turning twelve. Rule two—never breathe the bad air. Rule three—never enter the Under City alone. Rule four—never dare befriend a Blightblood.
By the end of her twelfth birthday, she had broken all the rules.
When Ember has a forbidden meeting with a Blightblood boy from the Under City, she’s drawn into a world she was taught to fear—one teeming with secrets, danger, and a fight for survival. But nothing in Ark stays hidden for long. When faced with the dark truth of her world, she must find a way to escape and survive the ensuing chaos. This story is full of mystery, action, romance, and betrayal as one girl attempts to stand against the forces meant to control her. To survive, she must reclaim her mind. And her very soul.
Follow Ember from childhood into adulthood as she survives the chaotic world of Ark.
In a world where clean air is currency and power, we follow the characters through a story that is part fantasy, part dystopian, and part sci-fi. I can't even imagine how the author was able to sit down and come up with such a unique and mind-blowing concept and plot. The plot was very well written, and it was easy to follow along and get lost in the story.
If you are hesitant because the story follows twelve year old Ember, don't be. She is only twelve for the first few chapters. There are elements of romance in the story following two love interests and the author has a way of making you question all the characters. At times you don't know who to trust and who to root for. The story was beautifully done with aspects of mystery and danger at every turn and you had to know what was going to happen next. Don't even get me started on the ending! I need book two in my hands now!!!
I am in awe of this unique, dystopian fantasy book. The plot is very well written and easy to follow, I was so enveloped in the story I could not put this book down. I feel in love with the FMC, Ember and MMC, Caelum and their growing love and trust for each other. From the first page to the last page I was either, seething, happy, sad or rooting for the characters wanting more. I cannot wait for book 2 cause the ending of this one was absolutely phenomenal! I highly, highly recommend to anyone who loves to read fantasy.
This book… WOW. I was blown away by how good it was. It’s a dark, moody dystopian with serious vibes, like if Arcane and The Matrix had a wild, bookish baby. The worldbuilding is rich and unique, and the pacing is perfect I stayed up way too late because I couldn’t stop reading.
And the romance?? Yeah… there are two love interests: A morally gray AI who might be catching feelings and A shadow daddy with secrets and swagger. I didn’t know who to trust, and I loved every second of the tension.
The friendship between Ember and Maya absolutely stole my heart. Ember herself is a force—resilient, determined, and impossible not to root for.
And that ENDING…..So full of tension then leaving us hanging. I need book 2 immediately. Go read this book it’s amazing.
Unique. Gripping. Heart-pounding. Complex. Those are just a few words to describe this book, Ark Angel. From the very first page, this book had me hooked. There’s so much going on—twists, turns, and revelations—that I truly couldn’t stop reading. Every time I thought I had it figured out, the story flipped everything on its head. You think you know…but trust me, you have no idea. The writing is beautiful yet fast-paced—easy to read but vivid and emotionally rich. The world is raw and dystopian, with layers of mystery and danger woven through every chapter. But what really stood out to me was the fierce and resilient FMC. Her strength, perseverance, and complexity made me feel deeply connected to her journey. And that ending—why did you do that to me, Michaela? It left my heart racing and my mind reeling. This is one of those rare books that lingers long after the final page. All is not what it seems, and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable.
I really enjoyed this book! I dont think ive read anything quite like it . If you love a good dystopian book then you have found it .
This reminded me of the movie fifth element but also had so many other futuristic ideas that are quite scary!
Ember is finally able to leave her house since she just turned 12 and it is one of the rules of the arc that they are not allowed to leave their homes until they turn 12 and are able to be fitted for an airpod ( you cannot breath the bad air) . She thinks it'll be a fun outting with her dad until she gets to the "celebration" where they pit the undercity against eachother in a fight to the death. but things go horribly wrong in this outing and ember doesn't know who she can trust .
fav quote:
"Every time you fall into my life, you set everything on fire and then play in the ash of it all. You are some sort of falling star-setting everything ablaze behind you."
I went into Ark Angel completely blind, the only thing I knew was that it was supposed to be dystopian with a hint of romance. If I'm being honest, this was almost a five star read for me until the last two chapters where everything made a complete 180 (more on that later).
The beginning was incredibly gripping, with a unique setting and a plot that had me on the edge of the seat. The first 40% covers events that happened while the FMC was twelve years old, then we fast forward to present day where the FMC is now eighteen. Ember unintentionally helps a boy named Cynri and his group of Blightblood kids after chaotic rebellion attempt, which then causes her to get sent away to Whitethorn, a home for troubled kids. Only this place isn't "real" and is more akin to a virtual reality space where Ember is microchipped with an AI companion that only she can see and communicate with.
The writing had more typos than I would have liked, and the prose was stilted at times. I think if it had at least another round of editing/proofreading, it would have been much more polished and enjoyable to read. However, with that being said, I literally finished it in 5 hours so there is definitely a good foundation there to keep me reading.
I really liked Ember as an FMC, she was easy to relate to and I understood her emotions. She had a very likable personality with kindness at the forefront, but she wasn't afraid to get down and dirty when she, or someone she cares about, is threatened. The other kids that were at Whitethorn with her were really interesting, and the found-family aspect was almost there; however, it didn't seem fully developed where some moments weren't as impactful and emotional as they were meant to be.
I really enjoyed how plot-forward majority of the book was, and I was glued to the page up until the very end even though there were some questionable moments leading up.
Honestly, the fever dream begins when we jump to present day.
Ember and her AI companion, Caelum, have a very unique relationship to say the least. While most of the time he's just a voice in her head helping her navigate life at Whitethorn, and a friend that can actual materialize so she can see him, there are a few moments of... "what the fuck?" And by that I mean, he can get her off. Yeah, the goddamn AI can use his "essence" to make her orgasm. This was not the direction I was expecting to be headed in at all, and I was completely taken aback because we were so plot-focused and then BOOM this is just thrown in there.
I'm sorry, but falling in love or lust or whatever the fuck this is with an AI... nope.Immediately no. I was able to brush this aside though, because, like I said, the plot was so interesting and gripping and this only took up 1-2 paragraphs.
Which then leads to the last two chapters...
Some shit goes down where Ember and her friend Maya are able to escape Whitethorn, with the help of the Blightblood kids from six years ago, and go back into the real world. All was well, I was absolutely hooked and couldn't put the book down. Key word: "was." Yeah, so not even 24 hours after escaping the hell hole of Whitethorn, Ember is invited to go clubbing with Cynri and the rest of the Blightbloods that came to save her. She's given a skimpy dress and high heels, etc. Girly hasn't even had a chance to process the prison she was in for the past six years.
It was at this point, I knew, we lost the plot.
Because please tell me why the FUCK she starts bumping and grinding on Cynri in the club, and lets him feel her up in front of everyone. She literally just escaped hell 24 hours ago, and she barely knows this dude!!! Oh but that's not all, Caelum is knocking on that mental door and using his fuck-ass "essence" to bring her on the verge of an orgasm. Mind you, we are still in the club. But the party doesn't stop as Ember and Cynri leave the club early together to go back to the Compound and fuck. Sigh... of course fuck-ass Caelum got "jealous" (he's a goddamn AI, omfg), and wanted to participate as well. Is this considered a threesome? I just... I... I'm at a loss for words. A+ for uniqueness because I can't say I've ever read anything like that before.
To be completely honest, I thought Ember was drugged—that's how completely out of left-field this all was!
It just all happened so fast, there was so much potential for this to be the greatest build up of a slow-burn romance with Cynri that could be explored in the second book, but no. They meet for the first time after six years, after Ember just got out of the hellhole of Whitethorn 24 hours ago, and he takes her virginity like that? No build up, no emotional connection. I'm so fucking confused.
This is the worst case of whiplash I've ever experienced because the way Ember was acting, was completely uncharacteristic to how she was written for 90% of the book. It felt like she was a completely different character and I was left utterly pissed off because WHAT WAS THAT? The book started off so good with so much potential, in a unique world with an intriguing plot, and this is how it ends? With an underdeveloped romance and a cheap-ass, weird-ass hookup with some random dude she met when she was twelve and her AI companion? Huh?
🪦 RIP Plot Chap. 1 - 22 In memory of the plot we lost, it was good while it lasted. Gone, but not forgotten. Fly high, angel🪽
My anger is a reflection of how pissed I am that the second book is not available yet. 🫤 It is not a reflection of how freakin spectacular this book is. It is spectacular cause it made me feel that much!!!
I loved this dystopian sci-fi fantasy. The 2nd half of the book has a little Matrix vibe that I was not expecting.
Umm… WHAT!?!? There better be a book two because that ending!! This is my first dystopian read in a long time and I was not disappointed! I need to know more!!
Ark Angel by Mickaela A.E. was an intense and creative read that pulled me in right from the start. The world-building was incredibly vivid, with just the right mix of sci-fi and reality. Every location felt alive and important to the plot, especially the Ark itself, which added a whole new level of tension and mystery.
The characters were another major highlight. The main character had real depth, and you could clearly see their growth as the story unfolded. Their struggles, choices, and emotions all felt authentic, which made it easy to connect with them and care about what happened next.
What really kept me turning the pages were the twists. Just when I thought I had things figured out, something unexpected happened that completely changed the direction of the story — in the best way possible. And the ending? That cliffhanger hit hard. It was the perfect way to wrap up this book and left me seriously excited (and a little stressed) for the sequel. I honestly can’t wait to see what happens next.
This book is if the Matrix and Coraline had a baby.
The main character, Ember, is part of the elite, a group of people who think they're lives are the only ones that matter. She lives in a world of toxic air, and while she does not have to worry about her air quality, because of the air plants they harvest, the Under City does. The under city is fed scraps and caged because they are different; they are Brightbloods. Menacing creatures who look human, but horns adorn their heads, among magical powers that none of those in the Ark have. Breathing the toxic air for too long turns you into a Deadhead, a ravenous beast that dwells in the dark, feasting on humans. Everything in Ember's young life is going well, for the most part, but comes to a crashing halt when a joyous day with her father crumbles into disaster. As she tries to fight her way out of the Deadheads' reach, she finds herself stumbling into the path of Brightbloods. When they are cornered, she risks herself to save them, landing her in Whitehorn, a school for wayward Ark children.
What she finds there over the net 8 years is disturbing, terrifying, and must be stopped by any means necessary.
This book was... amazing! I was completely invested after the first chapter. Incredibly unique, the world building, the characters... did not know I could fall for an A.I. being but Caelum was 🔥🔥 Could not put this book down and I need more!
What a debut novel! I mean WOW! The writing was masterfully crafted to pull the reader into another dimension. The world building was phenomenal, brilliant. The exquisite detail given in a way I felt I was within the world that was created and I was watching it all unfold. The characters and the storyline were so unique and intriguing that I was hooked from the very beginning. I didn’t want to put the book down and when I had to, I couldn’t wait to pick it back up.
I loved Ember from the start. I enjoyed how we were able to watch her grow. She is definitely a bad ass FMC, smart, resilient, flawed and determined, all that makes her relatable. The other characters were good as well, Ember was just my favorite. I don’t want to give too much of the story away but will say there will be a slooow burn. Pacing for this storyline was delivered perfectly
The twists and turns, secrets, gut wrenching betrayals, danger all has me turning pages quickly needing answers. Only to be left with a cliffhanger that knocked the breath out of me! Heart pounding, in awe, blown away, it’s That Good!! Please tell me book 2 will be out soon! Highly recommend this book, it’s definitely going to be within my top 5 books read in 2025!
Ark Angel was a wild ride through a gripping, dystopian story in a society where all was not as it seemed. The main character Ember found herself swept into a series of events that left her stuck somewhere she never expected, but she still fought to survive - and grew stronger because of it. I loved Ember’s perseverance and her strength to keep herself behind the wheel while life throws blow after blow at her in this unique world she finds herself plunged into! (And the reader, as a result). I DEVOURED this book, and I can’t wait to read more from this author! Thank you for the experience, Mikaela A.E.!!
At the age of 12 Ember, the High Chancellors daughter, is given her Audit to see what position in life she is suitable for. Having never step outside her home she’s now old enough to go with her father to the Celebration. During a rebel attack she’s separated and ends up with children of the under city, after which she is charged with a crime and sent to be reprogrammed. The story takes us through hell and back during her 6 years at Whitehorn and then the challenges and betrayals she faces afterwords. This story is multi dimensional with plots within plots and brutal trials. While love blooms Ember fights for her life and her beliefs. There are so many layers to this world and the incredibly intelligent, fierce FMC with twists that left my mind blown. Dystopian with sci-fi influences this book left me in awe and ready for the next. Epic, well written, a full scope of unimaginable strength, courage, and passion.
Ark Angel was an entertaining enough read. Like settling into watch a schlocky sci-fi flick. Nothing original, but the elements thrown together had me intrigued, until the extremely rushed end. Not a shocker of an end either. Not sure why so many folks were shocked by it? The character wasn't being subtle about his plans.
It should also be noted that despite the cover and description, very little of the story deals with the environmental aspects. Or really with any of the actual world. I personally don't believe it counts as spoilers, but, there may be others who disagree so I won't dive into it. But because of the lack of being in that world, there's also a lack of the romance promised. Thooooough, that was fine by me. The less sex scenes involving an 18 year old protagonist the better as far as I'm concerned. Folks will have differing opinions on this element, which is fine. It's a larger discussion than a singular goodreads review. Still. Not my cup of tea.
In any case, three stars as it's very, well, middle of the road. There's bones of a good story. It's just currently the meat tastes like boiled chicken so to speak. Bland, and available everywhere, with other folks offering better. That said! I do genuinely believe that if the author were to keep writing, keep practicing, and continunally improving, while listening to those offering constructive criticism, there could be some better quality stories from the author in the future.
So. If you want something that's entertaining enough even if it's not extremely original, give Ark Angel a read. Those saying it is akin to Divergent, Hunger Games, or even The Matrix are not wrong per se, it's just I would also give those series three star reviews. Otherwise...It either probably won't be for you, or should be saved for when you're in more of a three star mood.
Ark Angel is an electrifying dystopian debut packed with rebellion, secrets, and soul. Ember Bridgem is a relatable heroine in a suffocating world where even air is regulated—and breaking the rules is her only chance at survival. Fast-paced, emotionally rich, and beautifully written, this story hits hard and lingers long after the final page.
Clean air is currency. Obedience is survival. Rebellion is death. And Ember Bridgem just broke every rule meant to keep her safe.
Twelve years old and desperate for answers, Ember meets a Blightblood boy from the forbidden Under City—a meeting that sets her on a path of rebellion, betrayal, and secrets buried beneath the surface of a dying world. As she uncovers the terrifying truth about Ark’s past and her own identity, Ember must decide who she is: a pawn, a prisoner… or a weapon.
Ark Angel is the explosive first installment in The Ark Chronicles, a dystopian coming-of-age saga where survival means choosing between the life you were given—and the one you’re brave enough to build.
Quote: “I thought the rules would keep me safe. I didn’t know they were the cage.” Quote: “What they call poison is just the truth they buried.” “In Ark, you don’t breathe without permission. You don’t think without consequence.”
“They filtered the air. Then they filtered the truth.”
“They taught me to be afraid of the dark. But no one warned me what hides in the light.”
“Some rules are made to protect us. Others are made to control us. I learned the difference too late.”
“Love wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was surviving.”
“He was born in the dark. I was raised in the light. But we both know what it means to suffocate.”
I have to say, I wasn’t quite sure where this book was going to end. And boy, did it end. Start to finish this felt like an original storyline. There was such a mixture in this story that made it an amazing read. It gives readers dystopian, social hierarchy, The Descent, Inception and Gladiator vibes.
Ember was born into a life of privilege. Sort of. After the Long War her family was lucky enough to live in the Upper City. A place of privilege and most importantly, clean air. On her 12th birthday Ember is finally allowed to take her Audit test and be able to step outside. For the first time. Ever. After years of studying to be an Ark engineer, Ember was finally going to be able to get her chance. After things take a terrible turn at The Great Celebration Ember is thrown into a world of chaos and forced to live a new life she never planned for.
Normally I’d include something about the MMC but I think that would take away the fun of this book. Because even that is a twist you won’t see coming.
Ark Angel takes you on this unique journey into this world. There are so many twists and turns in this book that made me happy but also so so mad. e_e I’m talking about that ending Mikaela ….
Overall I really enjoyed this book. The artwork on the cover is simply beautiful and has become a cover I can’t stop looking at. It matched perfectly with the story inside. Now, I’ll also say the spice meter in this book is about a 1.5/5. However, the amount in this book is perfect for the plot and pacing. Nothing felt forced and thrown in for the sake of throwing it in. Impatiently waiting for book 2.
Tropes: 🌱 touch her and ☠️ 🌱 shadow play 🌱 unique world 🌱 badass FMC 🌱 dystopian 🌱 soft sci-fi/ fantasy mix 🌱 action 🌱 one bed
Ark Angel is a stunning, high-stakes dystopian debut that sweeps you into a chilling future where clean air is a luxury and control is absolute. Mikaela A.E. crafts a world that's as claustrophobic as it is compelling, and at the heart of it is Ember Bridgem a fierce, curious twelve-year-old who refuses to stay caged.
From the start, Ember’s voice feels urgent and alive, and you can’t help but root for her as she systematically breaks every rule meant to keep her in line. Her meeting with a Blightblood boy opens the door to the Under City, a place layered with danger, heartbreak, and unexpected truths. This hidden world beneath Ark is richly imagined, gritty, and full of characters that challenge everything Ember thought she knew.
What I loved most is how the book doesn't hold back there’s action, yes, but also real emotional weight. Ember’s journey is not just physical but mental and spiritual. Betrayals sting, alliances are fragile, and the line between good and evil is beautifully blurred. The romance is subtle but poignant, woven gently into Ember's coming-of-age and awakening to the world’s harsh realities.
Mikaela A.E. manages to make the story feel both intimate and epic, raising questions about control, environmental collapse, and the power of resistance. The writing is sharp and immersive, the pacing tight, and the plot twists had me gasping more than once.
If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games or Divergent but are looking for a fresh voice with emotional complexity and bold imagination, Ark Angel is your next read.
Rating: 5/5 A haunting, beautifully written dystopian tale that grips you by the heart and refuses to let go. Ember Bridgem is the heroine we didn’t know we needed.
This was such a great debut read by this lovely indie author! I was captivated throughout and it was very addictive to read.
This is a dystopian romantic fantasy and gives a bit of Divergent vibes for those who loved that series, this would be a great read. It has a unique magic system in which there are humans (living in the upper city) who do not have power or magic, and demons/being with magical powers (living in the under city). Everyone lives under The Ark which is a contained city under a dome. Everyone has to wear special masks whenever going anywhere outside because the air is not good to breath and the masks/tanks are powered by these glowing air plants inside the tanks. The Upper city houses the more fortunate and wealthy of the population including anyone in power so they get priority over quality air plants and tanks, the under city people are considered a danger to society due to their abilities or what they are and are given little to no resources with failing tanks causing a majority of their citizens to breath in bad air and succumb to environmental ailments without help from the government.
Ember is the daughter of a councilor in the upper city, at 12 years old is when children earn their own tank/mask and are allowed to go outside but all hell breaks loose when the under city people decide to fight back. Ember finds herself cast to a mental prison on behalf of her awful, hating ass step mother after her father is killed during and under city take over.
Ember finds herself in a house like prison with a small group of other children whom all get an AI “buddy” planted into their brain/system that only they can see and talk to.
Romance with more than one MMC develops and it’s definitely a wicked story to read. Highly enjoyed this!!
🌱In Ark, clean air is currency, obedience is a cage, and Ember's survival demands a rebellion against both—or she'll cease to exist.🌱
I brought Ark Angel on the beautiful cover alone not knowing much beside being Sci Fi Fantasy. Mikaela has done such a wonderful job in world building and character development I easily got transformed into this world as I followed Ember in her survival in the Ark.
🌱Rule one—never leave home before turning twelve. Rule two—never breathe the bad air. Rule three—never enter the Under City alone. Rule four—never dare befriend a Blightblood.🌱
Ember is so easy to care about and I was with her all the way, and um.. Hello Caelum.. and Cynri 🥰 who knew could catch feelings for an A.I 😄 The ending was so fast paced and I couldn’t believe the twist .. I was yelling Noooo at 3am. I can’t wait to see what will happen in book 2. I have so many unanswered questions and need more Cynri 😄
🌱”Because even flowers can grow in Hell.”🌱 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don’t usually gravitate toward Sci-Fi or dystopian novels—those genres are typically more my thing on screen than on the page. But this book completely changed that for me. I loved it! From the moment Ember is introduced at age twelve, she radiates girl power, and that strength only grows as she matures. Her friendship with Maya is just as powerful—Maya is a total force in her own right.
The male characters? Be prepared for a full-blown emotional rollercoaster. You’ll love them, hate them, and maybe love them again. This story will take you through every emotion imaginable—I laughed, I cried, I felt it all.
I usually avoid spoilers, but I have to say: the ending hit me like a truck. Massive cliffhanger. I was literally sitting there, mouth open, stunned.
I absolutely can’t wait for the next book. If you’re a fan of The 100, do yourself a favor and read this one. It’s an incredible ride!
I found that I struggled a lot with this one. I kept bouncing back and forth with liking and disliking it. As it stands, I don’t think I am a huge fan.
My favorite part was when they escaped. Least favorite was the moment it flipped for me which given it is AI it is expected - but the relationship with a computer.
I really did enjoy Ember and we all love a good cliffhanger right lol
This was my first dystopian book. I typically watch them versus read them. Coming into this I was prepared for a dystopian feel and I didn’t get that.
This is more sci-fi and that is where I feel I struggle. I think it being more sci-fi is where I get lost in being interested. It definitely wasn’t what I expected it to be.
I will be debating on if I will read book 2 or not. I’m a nosy kind of reader lol and want to see where this goes so that is where it might lead me to want to read it. I wish I loved it more.
This book is really hard for me to rate but I think I'm going to settle on 3 stars. Before the last 10%, this was going to be a 4-4.5 star read. This was a uniquely dystopian plot with characters that were relatable and likeable and a magic system that was easy to follow. I flew through this in 24 hours, it interested me right from the start. Unfortunately, the last 50 or so pages seemed so out of character and so far disconnected from the rest of the book that it almost seemed like someone else wrote it entirely. I loved the FMC for 90% of this book, but at the end, she took on a completely different personality. The entire book changed - it just didn't fit. There were also quite a few grammar errors throughout, which I know can be common in self published books, but just something to note. The book ended on a cliff hanger - I will potentially read the second one to give it another chance since I really did enjoy a majority of this story.
Ark Angel isn’t something I would normally pick up, but it hooked me fast and hard (and I may have been persuaded by that beautiful cover!). The world is intense—where clean air is currency and following the rules is the only way to stay alive. Ember breaks every rule by the time she turns twelve, and that’s when things get wild.
There’s rebellion, secrets, danger, a forbidden friendship (maybe more 👀), and a ton of heart. I found myself rooting for Ember so hard—she’s fierce, curious, and just done being controlled. The story has so many layers, and every time I thought I had it figured out, it threw something new at me.
This book surprised me in the best way. If you love a good dystopian with action, emotion, twists, and a touch of romance, give Ark Angel a shot. You might just find yourself obsessed too.
I enjoyed reading this dystopian fantasy/sci-fi novel. Ark Angel turned out to be quite different from what I expected based on the beginning—but in an unconventional, intriguing way. I never knew where the story would be going, which kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I liked Ember as a strong female character and the interaction with Caelum - even though I wouldn't call it a romance... The ending was surprising and left me a little baffled—definitely not what I had imagined at the outset—but it tied things together in a way that invites reflection. Will there be a part two?
This is a unique read that doesn’t always go where you think it will, and that’s part of its strength. If you enjoy stories that evolve beyond your expectations, Ark Angel is worth checking out.
Wow. Just wow. I'm speechless. The idea behind this is genius. That ending? Oh my god. I mean, yes, I definitely guessed what would happen - but hallelujah, that does not take anything away from it. And our two girls, staring Mother in the face despite everything, still willing to fight? I've fallen deeply, deeply in love with them. Not to mention Caelum. I'm desperate for a sequel. I want Maya to have a Caelum as well, I want to see what will happen when her chip starts working with her, not against her. I want the four of them to stand against the rest of the world and come out victorious! I'll definitely be here when book two comes out. I'll empty my whole bank account and fund the entire thing myself if I have to!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really enjoyed this book, it's a little different then what I normally go for. I will say I really loved the world this is in, I think it's a fun blend of sci-fi and dystopian with some sprinkling of almost magic. The characters really grew on me and I liked the friendship dynamics. That being said I wish this went through another round of editing- there were some name mistakes here and there like calling "Sam" "Same." It also annoyed me how the dialogue had like no contractions, it just didn't seem realistic that everything is always so proper sounding, teenagers will use "it's" more than "it is" and things along those lines. I'm looking forward to the second book and seeing how this story progresses!!
This book seriously needs a film adaptation, pronto! Ember's journey is one heck of a rollercoaster! Starting off in the lap of luxury (well, sort of), to suddenly being thrust into a whirlwind of chaos and uncertainty. When she meets that Blightblood boy, you just know things are about to get wild! This tale is like a mix of a suspense thriller, a love story, and a rebellion all wrapped into one exciting package. You can't help but root for Ember as she defies the odds and fights to take back control of her life. It's a heart-pounding adventure that'll keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end! So, buckle up and get ready for a ride!
So I just have to say that this is not a book I would normally choose to read. It’s not my typical genre. This was recommended to me by a wonderful friend ❤️ and so I decided - why not? I will tell you, simply, this book is awesome! There was just enough of all the right elements, one never overshadowing the others, that combined into a wonderful read! The story that spun out of Mikaela’s fingertips was just magical! Highly recommend- even if this isn’t your normal genre - step outside of the box and give it a try!
Ummm, freaking Wow!! From the synopsis, I figured I was going to love this...and seriously look at the cover!!! Ark Angel exceeded my expectations, and I didn't think that would be possible! I was hooked from the first chapter and completely pulled into this very unique, dystopian world! This book is going to live in my head for a long time, and I am in desperate need of book 2!!! If this is on your shelf and you haven't read it....read it!! If it's not on your shelf..what the heck are you waiting for?? Go!! Go get it!!
