Having followed the Mirror Estate series from the very beginning, I can only tell I loved Shadowed Secrets from beginning to end.

The Mirror Estate has become a must read and now I can hardly wait for the following instalment to come out.

I have loved how the characters in the plot have evolved and the secrets they all hide which enrich the story even more. Olivia, Dylan, Lily, Ron, and Ana are some of the most important assets and by joining forces they have all contributed to the unveiling of critical aspects in the plot.

I have also really enjoyed how Fr. Phil has evolved into a much more interesting character.

Will they all realize on what "the Ghost" aka Marge Beaumont plans are concerning the Mirror Estate?

Although the novel itself works as a standalone, I highly recommend getting hold of the previous books.

I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the first book in the series I've read, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm glad I took a chance. The book was more than I could have hoped for. I could keep up with the many characters with the help of the wrap-up summary of the first four books in the series, but hope to find time to go back and read them.

The characters, and there were many, are of amazing talent. There is intrigue, deception, betrayal, and lots of danger. The book is a page-turner with many twists and turns. The plot was intriguing and left me trying to guess its many secrets. Unlike other thrillers I've wanted to read, this one had moments of faith and was a clean read. The ending was haunting! Can't wait to read the next one.

I received an ARC from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

This is the fifth in the series but it's the first one I have read. It works great as a standalone as the author has provided some recaps of the earlier books at the start which you should definitely read, as well as details of most of the characters and who is related to whom. This is important as there are a lot of characters to keep track of here.

The book itself was complex and fast-paced, with plenty of twists and I was neer completely sure what end was up throughout. I love the priest spy/agent angle and how The Ghost character is quite manipulative even behind locked doors. It definitely has me wanting to read more.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to the author for gifting me this book!

This is the 5th book in the series called Mirror Estate. I absolutely love that the author recaps the other books before you start this one. I wish I had read the other ones, but the recaps help catch me up really well.

This is full of action suspense and intrigue so it's right up my alley! I was hooked instantly to this gripping conspiracy thriller! I found the book fast paced and I was on the edge of my seat. I love how all the characters in the book are connected in some way, and it truly has you wondering who is behind everything. It had an open ending so I am excited to see what happens in the next book.

I highly recommend this book. I would also say read the other 4 first to get a good grasp of what is going on.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I like all the spies, FBI procedure, kidnapping, and murders. The chapters are short and its a quick read. I love all the characters and seeing what trouble they are in. I've read every book in this series and will read the next one, this one fell a little flat for me.

This is book 5 of the Mirror Estate series, it is not a standalone, it is necessary to read the rest of the series before you read this one.

Shadowed Secret is Book5 in the Mirror Estate Series by

S F Baumgartner. I absolutely like how the author brings readers up to date by providing a quick update of each book before the current one begins. Shadowed Secret has intrigued and a bite of romance. Does the Ghost have her hand in this mystery? Maybe… maybe not. I found this author came write a thriller that left me sitting on edge f my seat. If your heart can take the intense story, Shadowed Secret is not to be missed. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

The fifth book in one of my favorite series is the best yet. I couldn't put this one down. It has lots of intrigue, mystery, humor, and teamwork. Even though the author gives a brief outline of every book, you should read the previous books first to pick up the nuances. The chart that shows how everyone is interconnected is very helpful, as is the map of the estate. The way the author interweaves storylines is masterful. Thanks to BookSirens for the ARC of this book

Spies, task forces, ex Navy seals, CIA and FBI personnel are wound throughout this book. There’s action, suspense and intrigue throughout. I enjoyed the book but really wish I had read the other books in this series first. I think if I had, I would’ve enjoyed it more. Even without reading them, it was good and I recommend it. Thankfully the author added a brief description of the first books in the series

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. WHY have I not been reading S.F. Baumgartner’s books before now? This espionage thriller read as tightly as a TV show or movie, each scene putting me right in the middle of the tense action and taut suspense as we follow different characters through the story. I could not put down this intriguing blend of FBI, CIA, foreign operatives, police, civilians, crime bosses, and even Vatican intelligence. Baumgartner truly excels at writing stories that keep you on the edge of your seat. I stayed engaged in Shadowed Secret from beginning to end… and would have easily read more if there had been any more to read.

There are a lot of characters in play in Shadowed Secret, but the way they are presented and the shift between their respective POVs only adds to the cinematic feeling of the novel. I had no problems figuring out who was who or what role they played in the overarching series narrative, even though I’m late to the party. Father Phil and Olivia became quick favorites for me, each of them much more complexly layered than first appears, but honestly I found all of the characters to be compelling – even the ones who weren’t on ‘our’ side. And the plot? Oh my goodness. I don’t want to go into too much detail because this is a story best discovered a piece at a time to maintain that perfect level of ‘what is going to happen next’ tension. But the danger specific to this book and the parts of the plot that are ongoing throughout the series combine to ensure you are fully immersed the whole way through. I am definitely going back to book one as soon as I have time because I’m really fascinated by the secrets and intrigue surrounding Mirror Estate.

Bottom Line: Shadowed Secret by S.F. Baumgartner is a tightly-written and cinematic thriller that brims with danger, espionage, faith, and multifaceted characters. Operatives around every corner (even in a nondescript estate chapel). Accountants on the run after discovering a body. A notorious criminal called ‘the Ghost’ working with an elite FBI Task Force. A missing book that could be nothing – or everything. Talk about a page-turner! I loved being completely absorbed by the high-stakes intrigue as well as the compelling people that made this thriller as emotionally engaging as it is pulse-pounding. Given how riveting book six is, the whole series from the beginning should be your next binge read. Perfect for fans of NCIS, Alias, Dan Brown, James Hannibal, and Mission Impossible!

This is book five of the Mirror Estate Thrillers and this time the action revolves around Father Phil Shagley, a former Navy SEAL with ties to Vatican Intelligence, as well as the priest at the chapel on the actual Mirror Estate, and in-house counsel Adam O’Shea, at the local Morrison and Associates, CPA office, who is also an agency asset (CIA), and forensic accountant Mia Granger, who is way more than she pretends to be and is doing an outside audit of M&M Enterprises, in particular an account linked to Victor Marlowe. Marlowe is a criminal mastermind dealing with quite a few art masterpieces in recent years, which he has auctioned off under suspicious circumstances. Fr. Phil is called to pick up a package from Adam, apparently a book or even a list, which Marlowe has put into a secret dark web auction, even though it ended up in Adam’s hands and not his own man. Mia and her boyfriend Tommy rivers, are at a company party with his best friend Dylan Roche and his girlfriend Lily and when after Mia gets a call, she announces she needs to go back to work to pick up a file for her boss. Tommy offers to go with her and they drive to the office in his car and go up to her office and pick up the file, but as they are leaving, they hear something and walk into a crime scene. They have walked into O’Shea’s office, finding paperwork strewn everywhere and then O’Shea head on the floor. Just as Tommy tells Mia to call 911, he hears a thud and then finds himself attacked soon after, both of them having been drugged by whoever was looking for something in the office and killed O’Shea! They come to in a van, which finally stops in a deserted industrial estate and they take their chance when it comes, to escape. Marlowe is behind all of this, trying to regain the list or book, he had tried to obtain, one of which is supposed to have a list of operatives on it and would be very valuable and dangerous in the wrong hands.

Fr. Phil is linked to Dylan Roche, the only heir to the Marino Estate, through his own stepfather Leon Roche, who died years ago, just after Phil became a Deacon for the church. His time at the Vatican left him as only one of a handful, who had been entrusted with some very secretive information about a young girl and her identity, amongst other things. Fr. Phil was responding to a call from O’Shea, with a cryptic message for him about an item he has brought back and the name give in the message shows O’Shea had links to the Vatican Intelligence and was considered someone who could be trusted with something valuable. He wouldn’t have left anything in an obvious place, as can be seen by the mess the killers left behind, but he finds a couple of items that will leave him puzzled for some time. Olivia Tso’s contact had also sent her to check on O’Shea, after he had picked up something from a courier, but then missed three check-ins. She arrives after Mia and Tommy are taken, but spots a few clues that make her worry that they may be in trouble, notifying Special Agent in Charge Ron Peters, who is in charge of the elite FBI Task Force 629, which she helps with cases from the Ghost, aka Marge Beaumont, Dylan’s aunt. She has been moved from a federal detention centre to the old asylum at the Mirror Estates, part of a deal she made with the FBI after she was captured, and in which she gives the task force names to take down. Most of these probably help her and her criminal empire somehow, but no one knows how on earth she is getting all her information from, when she is being held so securely. Marlowe and his men think that Mia and Tommy have the book he wants and they will be pursued until Marlowe has it for his auction. Fr. Phil’s name is one of a very short list that was in the information O’Shea left for him, along with his former mentor and a man who Fr. Phil pretended was his uncle, as well as someone only known by their initials, all of whom are the only ones to know the secret they kept!

Marlowe and Olivia both suspect that Fr. Phil knows something about this book or list, leaving both wanting to talk to him, but one of them will be a little bit more forceful in their attempts. Fr. Phil knows he is likely to be in danger, especially when one of the names on his list is killed and it seems he led the killers directly to him. It is a long time since he was active as a SEAL and with the Vatican Intelligence, so he is a bit out of practice and old, so whilst his senses start to tingle, he can’t defect an attack as he once could. He is reminded of the words of his mentor long ago and to never trust anyone, as it seems he is facing betrayal from people within the church, itself, some he thought he could and had for so long. He is facing these unknown adversaries, as well as Marlowe and his henchmen. Dylan had given up on following more clues for some supposed hidden treasure on the Mirror Estate, after he, Tommy and Lily had found a key, half a map and some old paperwork about the estate and those who lived there in the past. He hasn’t found anything new, but his forced visit to his aunt, has her questioning about his progress, knowing things he hasn’t told anyone and giving him some family names to follow up on. Not that he will have much of a chance with Tommy and Mia being in trouble! Dylan and Lily, the trouble seekers, find themselves in the midst of some of the action, as does Ron and others from the task force. Olivia ends up working with two British operatives again, Falcon and XXX, finding herself in dangerous situations, saving some of those involved and taking down the bad guys, often in secret from the task force, all whilst preparing for her wedding in less than two weeks. Busy woman! So much is happening in this book and there are separate storylines intertwining for each main character pulled into this dangerous scenario about a book and a list (which as a red herring), but also linked to a book from the Vatican Archives themselves. Fr. Phil has spent his life hiding in plain sight, watching events around him, and protecting secrets it seems others are prepared to kill to obtain.

A good mix of spy craft, secrets from long ago, a criminal mastermind who seems to somehow know more than the FBI and CIA, as well as danger coming for some who never expected it, and long buried secrets held by the Vatican and only entrusted to a small number of people, half of whom are now dead! There are so many twists and turns, it could make you confused, but there are slight repetitions of events told by different characters, which show you how everything actually happened and how they are linked to various characters. I can’t wait to see what Dylan and his friends will finally discover about the Mirror Estate and just why the Ghost is so interested in it all! She already seems to know everything that goes on outside her securely locked down accommodation. Still so many questions to be answered, but nice to see some of Fr. Phil’s past and how he ended up at the chapel on the Mirror Estate. I received an ARC copy of this book and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

“It was about discernment. About seeing beneath surfaces. About understanding that even the holiest façades could conceal the darkest intentions.”

Just how often can you come in on a thrilling psychological series in the middle or end, yet not feel totally befuddled? Kudos to author S.F. Baumgartner, author of Shadowed Secret, Book 5 of Mirror Estate Series!! I was fit to be tied when I discovered I was reading a new-to-me author, a psychological mystery that definitely builds book to book, and I was coming in fresh on book 5 , a 500 page book at that. Plus, the list of characters is enough to make your head spin!!

But Baumgartner is a writing wizard!! She starts out Shadowed Secret with a recap of each of the previous books! Not only that, but the books are a tangle of relationship connections- and at the FRONT of the book are several pages of relationship maps. Often, if there is such a thing, it is relegated to the back, and what help is that then?! Plus, a map of the estate. Now, I’m only left with two objections to reading the book: a massive 500 pages and how on earth am I going to keep so many different people’s story threads clear in my head?!

Again, Baumgartner has done her due diligence in editing her book, pulling making sure all threads tie together. And she does so in such a thrilling, compelling way, I couldn’t put the book down until 1:30 am. Because of clear, concise wording, and short sentences and chapters, one can speed through the book. And you will be so anxious to follow the thrills and chills you will need to!

As I mentioned, I put down the book at 1:30 am. I thought I left my new friends, Dylan, Lily, Olivia, Fr.Phil, and others in a relatively safe place after progressing through more incredible twists than I thought possible. WRONG! I’m left wondering if this is truly the final book!! I will be picking up the books I missed ASAP and already picked up the first of the spin-off series, Mirror Estate Psychological Thrillers!

I am blown away by this book! If you like psychological thrillers. S.F. Baumgartner is a master!

I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also pre-ordered my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:
(Please note: these are not all life- inspiring!!)

“It’s not about faith. It’s about power, and power comes with wealth.”

“You know what will help?” “What?” “Pray. Let’s pray. You can just say what you want from the heart. Don’t worry about any prayers.”

“Don’t assume you’re safe just because you don’t see the threat.”

“Remember it’s not the medal itself, but the power comes from God.”

S.F. Baumgartner returns with another compelling installment in the Mirror Estate series, offering a sophisticated and engaging thriller that combines the intensity of international espionage with a unique spiritual dimension. Shadowed Secret continues to build on the series’ intricate world of covert operations and personal stakes, delivering a story that is as intelligent as it is suspenseful.

The narrative centers on Father Phil Shagley, a former Navy SEAL who now leads a quieter life as a priest—though his past in intelligence is never far behind. When an old contact from Vatican Intelligence reaches out with a high-stakes mission involving a dangerous piece of classified material, Father Phil is thrust back into a world he thought he’d left behind. As the threat escalates and trust becomes a rare commodity, he must navigate not only external dangers but also internal divisions within the very institutions meant to protect him. Parallel to this, the lives of two unsuspecting individuals—Tommy Rivers and Mia Granger—take a perilous turn following a violent encounter that links them to the same high-value target. Their involvement adds urgency and emotional weight to the plot, weaving their personal risks into the broader implications of the unfolding conspiracy.

Baumgartner excels at crafting layered characters and a tightly-woven plot that keeps readers engaged. Father Phil is particularly compelling—a protagonist shaped by discipline, faith, and a shadowed past. His complex identity gives the novel a distinctive tone that sets it apart in the spy thriller genre. The supporting cast, including returning figures and a skilled federal team, are rendered with nuance and contribute meaningfully to the story’s progression. The writing is clear and deliberate, with a strong sense of place and pacing. Locations shift seamlessly from ecclesiastical chambers to tactical operations, maintaining narrative tension throughout. Strategic use of alternating viewpoints enhances the momentum, offering a broader understanding of the stakes involved while never losing sight of the characters’ emotional journeys.

While part of a series, this book stands firmly on its own, with enough context provided to orient new readers without slowing the story’s forward drive. That said, returning readers will appreciate the continuity and evolution of both plotlines and character arcs.

Shadowed Secret is an intelligent and well-constructed thriller that balances action, intrigue, and emotional complexity. It will appeal to readers who appreciate well-researched plots, morally layered protagonists, and a fresh approach to modern espionage fiction.

S.F. Baumgartner’s Shadowed Secrets delivers a gripping installment that blends suspense, intrigue, and layered storytelling with remarkable finesse. Although the narrative features a broad ensemble, the shifting perspectives are handled with such clarity that the story unfolds with an almost cinematic fluidity. Each viewpoint enriches the overall narrative rather than complicating it, allowing readers—even those encountering the series midstream—to quickly orient themselves within the intricate web of characters and motivations.

What initially appears straightforward gradually reveals unexpected depth, making their roles both engaging and emotionally resonant. Yet the strength of the novel lies not only in its protagonists; even the opposing figures are crafted with nuance, ensuring that every presence in the story contributes meaningfully to the tension and complexity of the plot.

The storyline itself is best experienced without foreknowledge. Baumgartner carefully layers revelations and dangers, sustaining a constant sense of anticipation that keeps the pages turning. The immediate threats within this volume intertwine seamlessly with larger narrative threads that extend across the series, drawing the reader deeper into the unfolding mystery.

Equally compelling is the enigmatic backdrop of Mirror Estate, whose hidden history and quiet secrets add another dimension to the narrative’s intrigue. The novel’s world is populated with covert operatives, elusive criminals, and unexpected discoveries—each element heightening the stakes and amplifying the sense that something significant is always just beneath the surface.

Ultimately, Shadowed Secrets stands as a polished and immersive thriller, combining espionage, moral conviction, and richly developed characters. Its momentum is relentless, its atmosphere charged with uncertainty, and its emotional core surprisingly strong. Readers who enjoy intelligent, high-stakes suspense will find themselves eager not only to finish this volume, but also to return to the beginning of the series to uncover the full scope of its secrets.

This installment delivers a gripping blend of faith, espionage, and high-risk intrigue. At the heart of the story is Father Phil Shagley, a priest whose earlier life in elite military service and intelligence work still shadows his present. Though he has embraced a quieter path within the Church, circumstances soon draw him back into the kind of dangerous territory he once knew well.

A confidential request from a contact connected to Vatican intelligence sets events in motion, involving sensitive information that many powerful figures are desperate to control. As Father Phil becomes entangled in the situation, the lines between ally and adversary begin to blur, forcing him to rely on both his moral compass and the skills he developed long before entering the priesthood.

Meanwhile, two ordinary individuals—Tommy Rivers and Mia Granger—find their lives abruptly upended after a violent incident links them to the same coveted target. Their unexpected role in the unfolding events heightens the urgency of the mission and introduces a human element that grounds the larger conspiracy in personal risk.

The author skillfully builds a narrative that balances suspense with thoughtful character development. Father Phil is an especially memorable protagonist, shaped by discipline, conviction, and the lingering weight of his past. The supporting cast, including experienced federal agents and familiar figures from earlier stories, adds depth and momentum to the plot.

The writing is polished and easy to follow, with smooth transitions between contrasting settings—from solemn religious spaces to high-stakes operational environments. Multiple viewpoints are woven into the narrative, offering readers a broader perspective on the escalating danger while maintaining strong emotional engagement.

The novel offers an engaging mix of action and intrigue, driven by a distinctive central character and a carefully constructed storyline that keeps the tension building from beginning to end.

S.F. Baumgartner’s Shadowed Secrets delivers a gripping thriller that feels remarkably cinematic in scope and pacing. Despite the story featuring a wide ensemble of characters, the narrative structure—shifting smoothly between different perspectives—remains clear and engaging. Even readers approaching the series later will find it easy to follow each character’s role within the larger storyline.

Several characters stand out for their depth and development. Father Phil and Olivia, in particular, quickly command attention, revealing far more complexity than their initial appearances suggest. That said, the novel succeeds in making nearly every character memorable, including those positioned on the opposing side of the conflict. Each contributes meaningfully to the tension and momentum of the narrative.

The plot itself is best experienced without too many details revealed in advance. Baumgartner carefully layers suspense, allowing discoveries and revelations to unfold gradually. The immediate threats driving this installment, combined with larger mysteries that span the series, create a persistent sense of anticipation that keeps the pages turning.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the story is the mystery surrounding Mirror Estate, a thread that leaves readers eager to explore the earlier books. Shadowed Secrets blends danger, espionage, and spiritual themes within a tightly crafted narrative filled with twists and high-stakes encounters. From covert operatives and a shadowy criminal known as “the Ghost,” to accountants fleeing after a shocking discovery and a mysterious missing book that could change everything, the novel maintains relentless momentum.

Ultimately, this sixth installment proves both thrilling and emotionally engaging. Its compelling characters and layered intrigue make it difficult to put down, and its intensity will likely inspire readers to revisit the series from the beginning.

Shadowed Secrets raises the stakes immediately with a plot that feels bigger and more urgent than before. At the center is Fr. Phil, a former Navy SEAL who now lives as a priest, quietly connected to Vatican intelligence. His calm life at Mirror Estate is shaken when he’s tasked with recovering a classified book that has surfaced on the dark web. What makes this mission dangerous isn’t just outside enemies, but the unsettling possibility of betrayal from within trusted circles.

At the same time, Tommy Rivers and Mia Granger are pulled into the chaos after a seemingly normal evening turns violent. Suddenly, they find themselves hunted by ruthless operatives who believe they hold something valuable. Their storyline adds a sharp, fast-moving layer to the novel, blending fear, survival, and growing trust under pressure.

The threat surrounding the secret book isn’t small, its exposure could endanger countless lives, which brings an elite FBI task force into the picture. The combination of religious intrigue, intelligence operations, and modern cybercrime gives the story a high-stakes energy without losing its emotional core.
What stands out most is how the characters handle pressure. Fr. Phil’s inner conflict between faith and his past, Tommy and Mia’s sudden shift from ordinary life to life-or-death danger, all of it feels grounded. The pacing is tight, the tension constant, and the sense of urgency builds steadily toward something larger.

Overall, Shadowed Secrets delivers a gripping blend of spy thriller intensity and character-driven suspense. If you enjoy stories with secret missions, hidden enemies, and ticking-clock stakes, this book will definitely keep you turning pages.

Shadowed Secrets by S.F. Baumgartner is the fifth book in the Mirror Estates series and is a Christian Suspense Thriller. The previous books in this series build upon each other and are filled with interesting characters and riveting storylines. From the moment I began reading this series, I found myself drawn into each book, and found myself eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. This fifth installment did not disappoint.

Focusing on many of the same series as previous installments, this one also dives deeper into Father Phil, a former Navy Seal turned priest, who wants to serve God as well as Tommy Rivers and Mia Granger. This book includes danger, secrets, twists, and more that will keep you reading. The Ghost continues to play a role behind the scenes pulling strings from her cell at Mirror Estates.

Olivia, Ron, Dylan, Lily, Ana, and other familiar characters continue to play a prominent role in this story. Their storylines continue to build and intertwine in ways that keep you reading. As with previous books in this series, many more questions either go unanswered or come up as a result of this latest book. So, I once again find myself eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. The ending of this one definitely leaves the reader hanging on a cliff. But you will have to read it for yourself to find out what that cliff is.

So if you want a Christian Suspense Thriller, check out Shadowed Secrets by S.F. Baumgartner and the rest of the Mirror Estate Series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

The sixth installment in the Mirror Estate series offers an engaging return to a world of covert operations, federal investigations, and high-stakes crime. The narrative weaves together elements of espionage, abduction cases, and violent conspiracies, maintaining the suspenseful tone that has characterized the series from the beginning. Its brisk pacing—helped by concise chapters—makes the novel particularly easy to move through, allowing the tension of the unfolding investigation to carry the reader forward.

One of the most compelling aspects of the series continues to be its cast of characters. The author excels at placing them in precarious and often dangerous situations, creating an ongoing sense of anticipation about how each predicament will unfold. For readers who have followed these characters across previous books, there is a clear sense of continuity and familiarity that deepens the reading experience.

That said, while the novel remains entertaining, it does not quite reach the same level of intensity or impact as some of the earlier entries in the series. Despite this slight dip in momentum, it still provides an enjoyable continuation of the overarching storyline.

It is important to note that this book functions as a direct continuation of the broader narrative arc. As such, it is best approached after reading the earlier installments, as the plot and character development rely heavily on the events established in the previous volumes. For dedicated followers of the Mirror Estate series, however, it remains a worthwhile addition and a natural step toward the next chapter in the saga.

This novel proved to be a thoroughly engaging and rewarding read. Although it is part of an established series, it was my first time stepping into this world, and I quickly found myself captivated by the story. A helpful recap of the previous four books allowed me to follow the complex network of characters and events without feeling lost, though it also made me eager to eventually return and read the earlier installments.

The narrative is driven by a large and dynamic cast, each character bringing unique strengths and personality to the story. Layers of intrigue unfold through deception, betrayal, and constant danger, creating an atmosphere of suspense that keeps the reader fully invested. The plot develops with skillful pacing, delivering unexpected twists that continually challenge the reader to anticipate what might come next.

One aspect I particularly appreciated was the book’s tone. Unlike many thrillers, it weaves in thoughtful elements of faith while maintaining a clean and respectful narrative style. This added a meaningful dimension to the story without diminishing its intensity.

The conclusion was especially memorable—haunting, powerful, and lingering in the mind long after the final page. After finishing this installment, I am genuinely looking forward to continuing the series.

I love how the author included at the front of the book, each book in the series with a synopsis of it. This is helpful to readers who may not have read the other ones or those who may have forgotten the characters. The story is riveting and keeps a good pace. The author is very good at writing suspenseful books that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. It was interesting to find a priest at the center of the story. I thought the priest was an exceptional character who once was a Navy Seal.

A secret book is so important that lives could be ruined if it is placed in the wrong hands. Will it be found in time or will this mysterious book destroy others? Well I couldn’t wait to find out. This book had to be something very special for a priest to go use his skills as a Navy Seal to retrieve it.

Get ready for a layer of mystery, characters who face danger and a heart pounding adventure mixed with faith that will keep readers guessing till the end. I love reading books from this author because I know that it will be filled with characters that rely on faith as well as suspense that makes me want to read faster.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

S. F. Baumgartner’s Shadowed Secrets, part of the Mirror Estate series, delivers a compelling continuation that quickly reorients readers with concise reminders of prior events before the story unfolds. This thoughtful introduction makes it easy to step back into the world of the series without feeling lost, while still maintaining narrative momentum.

The novel blends suspense with subtle romantic tension, creating a storyline that is both emotionally engaging and richly mysterious. An enigmatic spectral presence lingers over the plot, leaving readers to wonder whether supernatural forces are influencing the unfolding events or if something far more human lies beneath the surface.

Baumgartner demonstrates a strong command of pacing and atmosphere, crafting scenes that steadily build tension and keep the reader engrossed from beginning to end. The sense of unease is skillfully sustained, making the narrative feel urgent and immersive.

For readers who enjoy thrillers that combine intrigue, mystery, and a touch of romance, Shadowed Secrets offers an absorbing experience that is difficult to put down. It is a gripping installment that will particularly appeal to those who appreciate stories that maintain suspense while gradually revealing their secrets.

The book is gripping, suspenseful, and unputdownable. There are multiple perspectives. So many unthinkable things happens in this book. This is a multilayered story with secrets, twists, suspense, and mystery. Expect the unexpected, betrayal, intrigue, deception, conspiracy, secrets and buried truth. The twists were unpredictable and I loved how the plot unfolded with mysteries and secrets. One thing was connected to the other and the perspectives kept me engaged. In the midst of them, the unthinkable happenings kept me engaged. The mystery is deeper and perilous. Investigation is spot on. Love how the characters worked with FBI and their connection with each other. And that ending, I need the next book.

This novel is part of a series. Baumgartner has included good synopses of each of the previous books at the beginning of this one. The previous novels are complex so one would best read them before reading this one.

There are many actions going on at once in this novel and Baumgartner frequently moves from one series of events to another. That style is almost like watching a televisions show as the viewing focus changes from character to character. There is much going on for all involved so it makes for a fast moving plot. There are many characters and Baumgartner provides a chart at the beginning of the book to help readers remember the character relationships.

Several federal and local agencies are involved but their actions are not coordinated nor is information shared. That leads to abductions and other adventures as agents work on their own.

I think this is the best novel in the series so far as it seemed less complex and confusing than previous ones. The adventure is not over so I'll be looking for the next in the series.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

This intriguing, suspenseful series will grab readers’ attention and weave a complex web of secrets accompanied with danger. In this novel, the many compelling threads of the series’ plot come together as the tale continues to unfold. We encounter familiar characters and find out more about their hidden pasts as they interact and try to stop crimes and avoid killers. And what about the secret treasure hidden decades ago? Will it ever be discovered, or is it even real? The story offers international espionage mixed with faith and drama. Even the Vatican Intelligence becomes involved. Trust and integrity play prominent roles in Shadowed Secret. And there are so many secrets. You won’t want to set the book aside until you see how it all concludes. I hope another book is in the works to let us know what happens after this exciting thriller ends. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

This novel brings together a compelling mix of intelligence operatives, elite military veterans, and federal agents, creating a story layered with tension and high-stakes missions. The narrative moves quickly, packed with suspense, covert operations, and moments of sharp intrigue that keep the pages turning.

While I found the story engaging on its own, it’s clear that the book is part of a larger series. Having the background from the earlier installments likely would have deepened my connection to the characters and events. Even so, the author thoughtfully includes a concise recap of the previous books, which helps new readers follow along without feeling completely lost.

It’s an exciting and enjoyable read. Despite starting mid-series, I still found it worthwhile and would happily recommend it—especially to readers who appreciate action-driven thrillers with intelligence and military elements.

Shadowed Secret by S.F. Baumgartner is a wild ride full of secrets, spies, and seriously high stakes. I mean, we’ve got a priest (who used to be a Navy SEAL—yes, really), two accountants, and an elite task force trying to stop a top-secret book from falling into the wrong hands. Intrigued yet? You should be.

Fr. Phil’s peaceful life goes poof when Vatican Intelligence comes knocking, and things only spiral from there—murders, betrayals, and operatives lurking in the shadows. The plot moves fast (like, cancel-your-plans fast), the characters are layered and compelling, and Baumgartner’s writing hits that sweet spot between smart and suspenseful.

If you’re into Daniel Silva-style spy games or binge shows like NCIS: LA, this one’s calling your name. Buckle up—it’s a twisty, action-packed thrill ride with brains and heart.

I would't recommend reading this book before reading the previous books on the series, there are so many details and back stories on the book, besides the amount of characters present that to no do so the reader will be missing a lot and won't grasp the full story.
This is a book of secrets upon secrets, every character has his or her own secret that along with the plot in the book makes it so much interesting to read and try to figure out how all the pieces fit together.
The book grabbed me from the beginning with all the twists and turn and at the center of all we find The Ghost, is she moving all the pieces for her benefit or is she also protecting her nephew?
I can't wait to read the next installment of the Mirror Estate series, especially after the cliffhanger at the end of this book.

Let me start this review by saying "Shadowed Secret" by S.F. Baumgartner is book 5 in the series and is over 500 pages and lots of characters, but it was easy reading. But I recommend reading these books in order. From the ending of this book, I see a new another book in the future. At least I hope so. If you have read the other books in the series, you will be drawn back into the character's adventures and their adventures. This is, as well, as the other book in the series are a page turner. Yes, there are deaths, but it isn't in a lot of gory details. I am not a fan of thrillers or suspense novels, but I have enjoyed this series and will read any forthcoming novels.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

I’m going to make sure to keep an eye on all the books by this author because I genuinely loved this book. This is the 6th book in the series and it took me 5 more books to get here. Yes it was stressful reading 5 books in a very short period of time but I’m not going to let that affect my rating. It’s definitely worth reading and I highly recommend it.

The not so prominent figure from the start Fr. Phil becomes the main character here along with tommy and his girlfriend. It’s really gripping from the start to end, an absolute page turner. This one so far was the easiest to read and understand keeping the thrill and story interesting.

Surely recommending this book and the series to all my friends and colleagues.
