In a scene in “The Thursday Murder Club” movie you see a stack of books that Elizabeth has got for her friend Penny on a table. The only one I could make out really clearly was this one. My little TMC/book nerd heart wanted to know if Elizabeth got Penny a good book to read (well her husband John as she’s in a coma). And WOW! She picked a good one, I absolutely loved this book!
If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a good story about grandparents. I absolutely adore Sissy and Heath. I loved the all of the character writing in this book, even the people we are not supposed to like. They were all so fantastic well written and fleshed out in so many different ways. It helped me get sucked into the story.
I was absolutely hooked just from the prologue… “Just come quickly. The garden…the…body…we need you, Penny”. The events that take place because of this event was so insane but so incredibly enjoyable and at parts really funny. Even though you know murder is bad, you can’t help but root for Sissy, Heath and Penny. Who would ever expect this darling elderly couple to do such a heinous thing? I felt so sorry for them. Cooper the tennant they rent their annex out to is not who they originally expected or would ever want living under them. The agency as well as the police can’t do much about him. Unfortunately things keep getting worse and worse. It was incredibly interesting seeing how each character acts and how this incident has changed or affected them.
I really enjoyed the side story of Penny’s son Zach and his personal struggles, her ex husband and his new girlfriend. With how some of that tied into the main story. Penny talking to her friend Caitlin who passed away was really sweet, it’s so beautiful but heartbreaking when characters do that but I really enjoy it and the same time.
This was really well paced, insane twists and turns, beautiful flowers and a fantastic ending! I’m definitely going to be reading more of Laura’s books.
A very good, dark, twisty thriller, where you're on the side of the murderers! Several times I was on the edge of my seat as everything almost went wrong. Great characters, a bit of drama but still believable, and a brilliantly lovable character called Sissy who I very much hope to be like when I'm older!
