"We both know that's a lie, you're not heartless. But you're scared of someone using it against you."
"I'd be better if I was heartless, then I wouldn't need to live with all this pain."

This was so close to being a 4 star but then it had to end like that so yeah we can forget about that extra 0.25.
Basically it was a mafia mystery romance but it’s also friends to enemies to forbidden lovers. It was good but could’ve been way better. Especially if it didn’t end like that.

Overall, I did like this book. The characters were entertaining and I liked the whole story idea. There were some things I disliked like the cringy dialogue and the predictably. In general this book is really good for a debut novel.

Remember that this is just my silly little opinion. 💕

P.S.A - this isn't a stand alone? At least I'm assuming it isn't anyway. Either way, the conclusion was terrible. It was predictable and definitely felt quite rushed as well.

I thought the dialouge was cringe-y, and the constant mention of brand names to be quite annoying.

it’s an interesting premise for a young adult novel, and i really did enjoy it! at the beginning, i had a hard time finding it realistic for them to be the bosses of their mafias and in high school, but as the book went on i was able to suspend my disbelief a bit. i also think leo and tasha are a bit too similar to roma and juliette from tvd in some aspects, so i did knock a star down for that reason too. however, by the end of the book, their stories diverged enough for me to appreciate them as similar but separate stories. i liked the parallel of tasha and leo sacrificing their desires to save and protect one another. it came full circle as both of them had to cave to the thing they had fought against for so long, just to save each other. there were some predictable plot twists, and others i didn’t see coming, which i greatly appreciated! it made me want to keep turning the page to see what happened next. i sincerely hope there is a sequel in the works, as the ending is not one i would give to a standalone novel.

Retrospectively, this book was a huge waste of time. Messy plot, stupid situationship, and a whole lot more. It felt too dramatised and over the top; the dialogue was very cringy and just didn’t work. Most of the time, it was too gossipy, like just too over the top and very, VERY dramatic with just a messy and very chaotic world and plot. In the end, I was just very dissatisfied with the ending. So yeah, that’s my rant.
