Sleep Writer by Keith Robinson is a delightful young adult read that smashes fantasy and science fiction into an engaging book.

Can you imagine being a pre-teen in a small town living your boring life doing middle school like things and suddenly an attractive fifteen year old girl moves next door? Life suddenly changes! But, what if she asks you where the nearest graveyard is? Kinda weird, right? But what if things get weirder? What if you join her along to the nearest graveyard in the middle of the night (normal pre-teen and teenaged behaviour, obviously), and she tells you that she leaves herself written messages when she sleeps and that they lead her to... aliens? Yeah, summer just got interesting.

Liam, Madison, and Ant become a trio trying to save the world from aliens when they accidentally get caught by said aliens spying on them... And the adventure is one wild ride!

I seriously loved this book! It's fast paced, full of twists and turns that don't leave you hanging, and is totally bingeable. I managed to read the whole thing in one sitting because I just needed to know how my new buddies were going to turn out. This book might be for middle graders and young adult readers but it also can really get an adult reader attached. It works all around for the ages because of the prose Keith Robinson has chosen. We can all remember being a pre-teen and wanting to go on fun adventures, and this book lets us join the gang for the fun of theirs.

And to top it off, this is the first in the series! So we are getting more! I hope we find out more about how Madison got her odd superpowers, and that we get to see Liam and Ant join her on their wild adventures. This is a must read book that will make you fall in love with reading all over again. And this is coming from a reader who typically avoids science fiction! This is the kind of sci-fi anyone can enjoy.

Five out of five stars.

I received this book for free from the author, Keith Robinson, in exchange for an honest review.

Well guys and gals, Keith Has done it again. He has followed up The Island of Fog series with another fast paced adventure that will have you begging for more.. I'll tell you this... Mr Robinson is in his groove right now, if you loved the Fog, you will love Sleep Writer. This book puts you into a really fun, fast paced adventure at about 100 mph and will keep you up, like it did me, past your bed time in an attempt to finish it. If you like aliens, monsters, robots and time travel, this is the book for you.. If those aren't your thing, don't be discouraged, the way this book is written will make you fall in love with them all over again... I'm going to give one and only one spoiler::: this book is as good if not better then the Fog series..

Keith Robinson is ambitious. First he wows readers with a nine-volume fantasy series, Island of Fog, that is imaginative, fast-paced and character driven. Next, he takes on science fiction with zeal.

Sleep Writer is the first in a series that is an engaging new sci-fi series. The three central characters, Liam, Ant, and Madison are filled with charm and grace while still being grounded and flawed.

Robinson puts the characters through their paces and rewards readers with aliens, portals, and a little fiddling with time.

The variety of stories Keith can tell with the premise will mean many volumes to come. I can't wait!

Three teen-agers find a way to predict where and when wormholes/gateways/"interdimensional transports" will appear. Liam goes through to the other side while the "visitors" from "somewhere" are looking around. While he's there, he grabs a silver device that resembles a pen. Once he gets back from "wherever", the "visitors" want the device back, and offer to trade him for another device. That turns out to be a virtual travel time machine. Next encounter doesn't go as planned, the team is spotted by insect-like stick men, and Liam is dragged back through the wormhole to a strange, different world. He's given a recording, perhaps a message, and allowed to escape, just as Ant and Madison come through the wormhole to rescue him. Together, they go back to earth through the wormhole. A few days later, a ghostly woman in a yellow cloud screams at Liam, while other monsters swirl around in the yellow fog, and a bat-winged monster tears the roof of his house. Following Madison's sleep written instructions, he views his future, and is greatly surprised at what he sees. A fascinating premise, well-written, exciting and fast paced.

Even though this book is targeted at middle school readers (the protagonist is twelve years old), I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sleep Writer. It has an interesting premise, interesting and engaging characters, and while it obviously is the first book in a series, it also has not only a complete story arc for this first installment, it also in a weird way already provides the ending for the entire series. (If you read the story, you'll see what I mean.) I downloaded the Kindle version for free. I download a lot of free e-books, but I try to stay away from first-in-a-series volumes because I figure that's why the first one is free, and I don't want to get roped into buying an entire series. But this series, featuring the adventures of Liam, Ant, and Madison, is one I would want to continue reading.

I should really start reading the synopsis of books before I actually read the book. I thought this would be a paranormal/ghost story, but we are quickly introduced to aliens. What? Yup. It feels like the books I used to read in middle school; i.e. complex plots, but written with simple sentence structures and "small" words. However, I found it really interesting and might look into the second in the series.

I knew Keith Robinson was a good writer and I wanted to check out some of his stuff,so I chose Sleep Writer to start off with.I expected a good read and that's exactly what I got. This book was really good,I gave it a four stars, but it's more like a four and a half.First off I really liked the way the story was constructed even though it has some complexity it was very easy to follow, simple sentence structure and common everyday vocabulary made it flow very smoothly.I found the characters to be simplistic yet interesting and engaging. The way they were presented made it easy to connect with them ,and get caught up in their story and quite a story it was.Aliens, wormholes, time travel, mysterious written messages this one had a lot of far out concepts that kept things exciting and unique and kept the pages turning at a high rate.Like I said, this is my first time reading this author and apparently it won't be my last I really enjoyed this book quite a bit.Excellent read, highly recommended 🌟🌟🌟🌟.

This is a young adult (middle school) novel with an intriguing premise: sleep-writing as a clue to time travel. Twelve-year-old Liam meets his new neighbor, Madison, a 15-year-old with a unique gift. While investigating the clues Madison writes while deeply asleep, Liam, Madison and friend Art, another 12-year-old with unlimited discretionary income, Liam is sucked into a wormhole to another universe. He gets back safely, but that is only the beginning of non-stop adventures. I enjoyed this unusual book very much. I found two minor errors. There is a sequel, but I don't know if I will get into it, as I am very behind on my current reading goal.

Three young people embark on a journey that includes time travel and sleep writing.

Then, there were aliens.

Honestly, I enjoyed this book until the repetitive usage of aliens. I'm sure it will be explained more in the second book, but I found it to be an underlying theme that rapidly progressed to becoming annoying. In the end, none of the alien stuff surprised me anymore. It felt ho-hum by two thirds of the way through.

I realize this book is geared to middle years but that’s ok. I really enjoyed reading it. I’ve loved to read throughout my life so if I read it in grade 7 I’m sure I would have loved it then too.
Good characters, zippy and action packed; I couldn’t put it down.
I will definitely be recommending this one to youth I know.

The only thing I didn't really like was that the explanation of the sleep writing was... more than a little confusing, to say the least. o_O I would like some more detail behind how exactly that whole deal works! >~< Maybe in the other books it gets put together with a little more detail. (:

What a treat and refreshing. That means I'll enjoying following up to see how this adventure continues to keep readers engaged after knowing the ending to the first book. It is great to find this new author of YA books. Besides, I want to see what happens to Ant!

Great middle school sci-fi

A little romance but not mushy or gross. Three friends encounter a series of aliens seemingly out of nowhere. Could you resist the opportunity to travel through space and time? Giant bugs? Floating jellyfish? What fun!

Not a bad yarn. I think my advanced years acts as a hindrance to the appreciation of the story.
I thought the ending was very good though.

Curious

The reader is pulled into a seemingly innocent story. As it unfolds a whole sequence of events take shape which will alter the futures of these characters.

An awesome, gripping sci/fi fantasy that seems so true to what kids are going through. There are aliens, but I loved how humans act and react. I want to read the second book in the series.
