Agent Kiara Davenport was sent undercover to unearth the wrongdoings within Cooper Industries. However, when she reached Kingston, she started to find things that pointed at something bigger than what she had anticipated. And, then suddenly another crime happened that she felt was linked to the whole racket. She had to uncover the whole crime syndicate against her orders while she was being followed by the criminals as well as the local police.
Will she find the reason behind the happenings? And, how are all of the threads linked to each other?
I really enjoyed this adventure and characters Kiara and Jake. I found the vernacular curious and entertaining, although a bit distracting from the story. So thoughts about the contrast between the setting in the New York and northeast United States, the American corporate culture and small town culture and characters, and the obvious English second language of the author's voice continued with me through the story.
Now that I've finished this first story, and read the biography on author Varun Vashist, I appreciate the writing and the story telling from an interesting cross-cultural perspective. Mr. Vashist is on his way to the top of my list of favorite fiction writers. Curiouser and curiouser, his stories intrigue me.
Bad grammar in parts, with words missing that you have to think of yourself. The name of the author appears to be an Indian guy,who spells well, but doesn't quiet seem to have 100% command of the English grammar. I obviously cannot say for sure, but would guess the book hadn't been proofread prior to being published. Still,if you can stay with it and put up with continual use of the word "What? it's quiet a good read, and that you don't get the answer you are trying to establish till right at the end. Annoying at times, but try and complete the book, which is the first in a series, featuring the two main characters. A freebie in the kindle store.
Complex plot, as his usually are, and you read to find out who dunnit. Kiara was sent underground to find out what was happening. Realizing it was bigger than one imagine. His books are good with suspense to the end.
Kiara Davenport is yet another beautiful female 'agent' with martial arts expertise and a troubled past. Sent to Kingston to uncover the true story about a Cooper Industries chemical plant she meets Jake Carter and their 'adventure' begins. An overly complicated plot on the face of it, but as usual it boils down to a fairly humdrum 'whodunnit?' Take a standard cast of pretty shallow characters for an ecological disaster story, dispense with any real drama or suspense and this is the result. A book to read when you're at a loose end and you don't want to tax your brain over much. Ideal holiday read. I just about finished it.
Unfortunately, the story was spoiled by the lack of knowledge of the English language. The language was stilted and the non-use of contractions made it difficult to read. We never learn where the story takes place. It gives a town, but not a state. The heroine visits a factory in an attempt to learn why the town people are sick. The manager of the factory is determined that only "good" information is reported. It seems like the town and factory are run by a dictator. I wouldn't read another book by this author.
I really struggled with how I was going to rate 'Missing Link'. I thought the storyline was intriguing and played out pretty good. But, the lack of editing really peeved me. It needs more. I did enjoy the characters. Kiara was an interesting lead. She is strong willed, stubborn and has a good sense of morals. Jake played the part of a partner pretty well. Between the two of them, they were a formidable team. I will read more of 'The Davenport Mysteries'.
The overall story was good, but the spelling and grammatical errors plus the author's seeming lapse in closing thoughts and leaving out pertinent aspects of the story disappointed.
