This series has me worked up to a fever pitch just before each new installment releases, then I charge through the latest offering, and afterwards, I'm back to high anticipation for what is going to happen next. Collide was no exception. The last book ended with me sitting there with my mouth open in shock and nearly three hundred new pages later, I was right back where I started. I would definitely describe these as cliffhangers that I love to hate. With that, I should make it clear that this series is not to be read out of order. It's like one story broken into several volumes.

I find it tough to summarize without spoilers both for the current book and the series when a story is like this, but I'll give it a try.

Donna was in a really tight spot when the last book ended and is still there when this one begins. She has come a long way accepting her gift and having her eyes opened to some of the stuff going on around her, but stuff keeps getting bigger and more out of control. Learning about her gift, the secret behind the power plant and the Applegate's hold on the community, the terrifying government agency out to capture and put down all her kind, grief for losses, frustration and anger over all the stuff out of her power including the knowledge that there are some dangerous gifted baddies running loose, fear over keeping her secrets especially as the hunt is on for the gifted human interfering with Mr. Applegate's plans, keeping her family and friends safe and then there is the guy who claims to be her long lost brother that she wants to hate for surviving and never coming back. What is going on with Ryan the way he is suddenly not ignoring her after the last few years of treating her like dirt? Slowly her list of allies is whittled down so that its just her and Rebecca in the trust column and she is forced to trust her enemies to protect the town from an even worse threat. Can it get any worse? Oh course it can!

I made a comment in my first review that I thought nothing is what it seems and there was a whole lot more going on that hadn't been revealed yet or similar words to that effect. I've seen just how right I was, but the thing is, I'm well aware that there is a powerful lot more to come.

This book was a transition book through and through. I was aware of this when I started. It did the job of continuing and affirming existing storylines, teasing out a few more new intrigues and leaving stuff at a frustrating and ominous place. This series spreads wide with its many narrations and plot lines going on so each of these middle books are doing the job of plunging the depths and bringing along the development in characters and relationships. Because of all the plot threads, this book didn't advance far, but it didn't lack for significant events either.

There are so many lead characters and their first person narrated stories entwine and separate frequently. Donna is the center of it all, but even then, hers was a softer presence in this book bringing others into the light. Ryan, Randy, Lynn, David, and Rebecca along with Saul all have significant page time sharing the narration. It kept me on my toes following the shifts, but I didn't mind. I love each plot thread and enjoy getting them teased out. Each person locks together with the others as pieces in a puzzle. I love the twisting turns and suspense of this one and absolutely salivate for more.

As to relationships, its like looking through a Kaleidoscope with constantly shifting pictures. The relationship between Donna and Ryan goes forward and then back. They are keeping some heavy secrets from each other and fall on opposite sides of the line right now even if ultimately they are fighting for the same end. It's hard to see where life's circumstances are taking them because I want them to catch a break. As to Randy, my heart just breaks for this guy who sees things so clearly, but is trapped by his dad's ambition.

Anyhoo, this is definitely YA at its best blending Sci-Fi with Romantic Suspense. There's some violence, but no sex in this segment. For those who enjoy super-humans or gifted humans as characters and twisty conspiracy plots, this might be a good match for you.

My thanks to Barclay Publicity for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Collide by Ashley C. Harris is book three of her Shock Me series and picks up right where we left off in Sparks. **Note unavoidable spoilers ahead. If you haven't read the first two books of this series, read at your own risk** Donna and Spencer are under attack by the first Biomax soldier, he's stolen her powers and somehow she has to best him to save herself and Spencer. Randy and Ryan are at the football game in the middle of town when the Biomax soldier shows up with the Electrolyte's powers and is chasing Donna. Now how will they keep the whole town from finding out their secrets? This addition to the Shock Me series is one intense read from start to finish. All my favorite characters are back and there's a lot of suspense, lying, and just all around confusion as Donna and her friends hide from the Applegates.

Donna is by far one of my favorite superheroes. She's witty, smart, and not afraid to protect those she loves. But how far will she have to go? In this book we see just how far she is willing to go and truthfully it breaks my heart. She is willing to die for these people, she's willing to let a friend's mind be completely erased of her to save him, and she gives up Cody. It's just heartbreaking!

Ryan is still my favorite baddie/goodie (does that make sense?!) He loves Donna, it's no secret except to the clueless Donna. He let them erase her mind of his abilities when they were kids, he's kept his distance, all in an effort to keep her safe from himself. However when the Biomax soldier appears chasing Donna, the animal side of him takes over and he's no longer willing to keep his distance. He loves her, he will protect her, and if it's the last thing he ever does he will save her from the Electrolyte (Note that that means he will be killing the girl he loves....gotta love irony ;) )

Randy however will always hold my heart :D I just love him! In this book, Randy's character really grows into himself. He gets out from under his father's leash and finds his own cause in....Rebecca. Yep, that's right. Little shy Rebecca, Donna's BFF, Paul's ex, and genius! It's kinda cute, but maybe I'm reading into things ;)

And then there's Spencer. Can't write a review without mentioning him.....I just....I really have no words for him. He risks his life at the end of Spark to save Donna. He has no clue about his real father, though Donna finds out from the Biomax soldier. Then he gets his mind wiped of everything/anything to do with Donna's abilities. Also Saul (the mind wiper) erases their close bond so when Spencer's mom suggests a move back to Florida, he goes for it. AND DONNA DOES NOT STOP HIM!!!!! My heart is broken :(

The plot of this story really focuses on Donna and keeping her secret from the Applegates who are hot on her trail. There's a couple of side plots as the Applegates track down the escaped Biomax kids from the NY facility and of course the first Biomax soldier as well. Then there's David who Donna is trying to figure out. There's a lot going on in just 200 pages!

Unfortunately because there's so much going on at times I got a little lost in the story and felt like maybe I had skipped a page or something. Also the head hopping. I kinda like it for this series but at times it's a little overwhelming. I mean you have the main character Donna, but then there is also Rebecca, David, Randy, Ryan, and Spencer all who get points of view (though Spencer is the exception this book). It can be a bit much, especially during intense scenes that the characters switch POV every few paragraphs!

And the ending!!!!!

Overall I enjoy this series. I love Donna and her X-men-ish abilities! The Biomax soldiers and the background story that is starting to take shape is just amazing! I can't wait for more from this world and I'm SO excited the author is releasing a short from Spencer's POV as he is not in this book very much! I <3 Spencer :D If you enjoy young adult, action, adventure, superheroes, and a tiny bit of romance, check out the series! You will not regret that decision :D

*Disclaimer* I received this book from Barclay Publicity in return for a fair and honest review.

Wow! This book will take you on a rollercoaster of a journey. In fact, scrap that, this SERIES will take you for a ride. I'm not going to go into the story - that's what the synopsis is for and as this is book 3 in the series, you've probably already got some idea of what's happening anyway.

As for Collide, it is one step forwards, two steps back - that is the unfortunate love story between Donna and Ryan and I really, REALLY want them to get a HEA but I'm not totally sure they will. They both have a lot of secrets and life... plus Ryan's father... keeps getting in the way of them being honest with each other.

This story is woven with such skill and lots of other strands are highlighted in this book - for example, Rebecca and Randy to name just two, along with Gemma, David and Lynn plus others.

This is part of a series and each book does end with a cliffhanger so fair warning - you will be left gobsmacked and wanting the next book immediately. A brilliant addition to the Young Adult, Science Fiction, Paranormal Romance genres. Highly recommended.

WHAT!!! No no don't leave us like that wondering what comes next. I just can't warm up to Ryan, keep waiting for that perfect fit for Donna. He is so messed up that is hard for me to see him coming out normal, if he does come out of his dad's behind it's going to be big explosion. Randy and Becca, I can see them becoming somewhat of friends in the future, they can understand each other. The loss of someone they loved.
I kept waiting for the person David is going to send to protect Donna, but Spencer nah
Ashley please get the next book out ASAP

The Shock Me series is getting better and better with each installment. Collide just has more action and I loved every minute of it! A definite 5 stars!

From the moment I started Collide it had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to see what would happen after the last cliffhanger and I wasn’t disappointed because it started off right there. But, the bad thing; another major cliffhanger! I kept looking thinking surely she didn’t just leave me there hanging on?!?!?! Yes, Ms. Harris did.

Donna just wants to protect those she cares for. She wants to stay hidden, no one can find out what she can do. She didn’t know what to think about this new guy being her brother. He just couldn’t be. He looked the same as he did when he left. How could that be?

Donna wants to keep Rebecca and Spencer safe. She also doesn’t know what to do with Ryan and his sudden attention on her! But things don’t go right at all and everyone is in danger, including Donna as she tries to keep her new electric self from being found out. And as time goes, there are more and more reasons to suspect her as being the Electrolyte everyone is after.

I feel so bad for Donna, she can't tell anyone about herself. Rebecca knows and Donna doesn't want her to spend too much time with her so no suspicion will go to her. She knows things she shouldn't and the new characters shown in this book now cause a major turn in events and the power others hold and what happens after the Bio soldiers are freed reeks havoc everywhere.

I get to see more of all the characters as we get to see everyone’s POV here often. I find myself liking Randy now. I don’t like his father at all and see that Randy does have a heart after all. Ryan, I feel a little bad for him too but he better step up or he will not be on the Team Ryan list anymore! Rebecca also plays a bigger role and her life is also on the spotlight and in real danger!

I can’t tell you much of anything because everything would be a spoiler. Just know it is full of action, betrayal, twists and turns, and you will love every minute of it!

If you like Young Adult, paranormal or are a X-Men fan, a hint of romance, action, betrayal, constant danger, twists, and more mystery in each chapter than the one before then this is for you!

Thanks to Barclay Publicity for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review cuz I honestly loved it!

Now, if I can only hang on till the next book comes out!
