About the author

Akira Toriyama (鳥山明) was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. He first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the popular manga series Dr. Slump, before going on to create Dragon Ball (his most famous work) and acting as a character designer for several popular video games such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon. Toriyama came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga with his works highly influential and popular, particularly Dragon Ball, which many manga artists cite as a source of inspiration.
He earned the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen/shōjo manga with Dr. Slump, and it went on to sell over 35 million copies in Japan. It was adapted into a successful anime series, with a second anime created in 1997, 13 years after the manga ended.
His next series, Dragon Ball, would become one of the most popular and successful manga in the world. Having sold 260 million copies worldwide, it is one of the best-selling manga series of all time and is considered a key work in increasing manga circulation to its peak in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Overseas, Dragon Ball's anime adaptations have been more successful than the manga and are credited with boosting anime's popularity in the Western world. In 2019, Toriyama was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts.
In October 2024, Toriyama was inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.

En la recta final del Gran Torneig de les Arts Marcials podrem presenciar els més grans combats entre els més grans mestres: Chaoz, Krilín, Panput o Jackie Chan. Però la gran final enfrontarà al poderós Ten Shin Han amb el peculiar Son Goku. El vencedor pot ser us sorprendrà, però el que més us sorprendrà és la terrible tragèdia que tanca aquest volum i que prelúdia el nou arc argumental que segueix.

Continuen els combats fantàsticament i dibuixats per Toriyama, acompanyats del seu humor, però em sembla notar ja cert gir cap a situacions i atmòsfera més serioses, adultes i dramàtiques. De moment no m’en he cansat gens!

Gli scontri in questo volume sono stati uno più appassionante dell'altro. La maturazione di Tenshinhan è notevole e risulta credibile e naturale, nonostante avvenga in un brevissimo lasso di tempo. Goku ne sarà pure uscito nuovamente sconfitto, ma stavolta è lui il vero vincitore del torneo. Era tempo di festeggiare, ma una tragica morte sconvolge tutti quanti. Chi è l'artefice di questo ignobile omicidio?

Ada peserta baru bernama Tien Shinhan yang ternyata adalah murid dari rival Kamesennin, yaitu Tsurusennin. Ia memiliki kekuatan hebat dan tak segan-segan mencederai lawannya. Lawan pertamanya adalah Yamcha dan Yamcha langsung kalah setelah kakinya dipatahkan oleh Tien. Selanjutnya, lawannya adalah Jackie Chun, yang merupakan nama identitas samaran dari Kamesennin. Jackie Chun cukup kewalahan menghadapi Tien, sehingga ia keluar dari batas pertarungan dan akhirnya kalah.

Goku Vs Tien is one of my most favourite battle in DB even to this day (Given I haven't watched the later half of DBZ or DBS).

And after this volume the tone of the series shifts quite significantly. The death of Krilin is the first step towards that.

Un dels tornejos d'arts marcials més espectaculars. No recordava com era de bona la saga Ten Xin Han. Ara també estem tornant a veure'la, cal dir la primera part de Bola de Drac és molt bona. Portant un bon equilibri humor i moments tensos en els combats.

The volume was well paced with all the fights. Some new important characters were introduced and it was nice to discover how the team improved its skills during the past 3 years.
