The world has us now.

Powerful forces have torn us apart. Now, the world threatens to swallow us whole.

I'm a prisoner, soon to be sacrificed before the new emperor.

Kaim is gone. He told me he'd come for me, but I'm terrified for him. He could be injured... or worse.

No. I can't afford to think like that.

Kaim is alive. He has to be. I've seen it with my own eyes—he isn't human. Sooner or later, the darkness inside him will break free, and when it does...

Those who tried to destroy us will know the true meaning of fear.

Power is a fantasy romance for adults and the third installment in the Dark Scion Trilogy. This enemies-to-lovers, dual-POV, spicy fantasy romance features a dangerous hero, a fierce heroine, a magical world filled with gods, dragons, and adventure—and definite touch-her-and-die vibes.

This book marks the trilogy's conclusion and ends in a happily-ever-after.

Least liked book in the series. The MCs spent more than half of the book apart and the entire time they were just non stop pining after each other with nothing happening, but just commenting each other in their heads. It was SO repetitive and cheesy and I literally almost DNFed so many times. I started skimming pretty much the whole middle of the book because it was just the same unnecessary thoughts and scenes over and over. Then the end was so anti climatic. I was hoping the hero would make a big show of how powerful he is and kill everyone that hurt the heroine, but nope. He only killed one guy and that's it. He didn't do anything to anyone else and yet he is supposed to the son of Death *eye roll*.

The intentions of this series seemed really good and sounded interesting, but the execution seriously lacked, which sucks because it was unique and the hero is totally my jam. Also needs some major editing. Overall, just okay. Not sure if I care to read anymore books by this author though.

I loved the way this concluded. Amali and Kaim were still strong in their devotion in each other despite the fact that they don't actually see each other till the very end. I love these kinds of love story conclusions. They each grow on their own and still come back to each other stronger than ever.
Kaim's character evolution was stronger than Amali's in this one. It was definitely necessary for him though. I love how he realizes that he is a demigod and meets his dad. It didn't conclude how I expected it to though. I would have loved it if Amali has some powers instead of bluffing her way through. It didn't really seem fair that Kaim had all the powers and she had to rely completely on him to save her. I get it, cause she is the only one he will ever kneel too yada yada yada. I guess I like them to be equal ya know. But still, fantastic ending. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Absolutely loved this series. I also very much appreciated the author being clear that it was a cliffhanger series so I could wait until all the books were available to read.

I loved the story Kaim & Amali. Anna Carven is an extraordinary world builder. This was a good conclusion to to the series (albeit a little long).

Anna I look forward to hopefully reading about Suguri & the Tenggu (hint hint reverse harem?), Enak and his ancestry, Andoku and his bride?, last but not least who doesn’t love a dragon ... Vyloren her rider and egg .....

Oh come on, you're gonna change the covers on the third book? I'd be more upset about mine not completely matching like the new ones do if I liked this one more than the first two...but I don't. Dude's body is too off. Like, proportion wise. What cover I do love though? The one for the collection of these three books. So much better. Too bad I don't need it...

Anyway. This was such a great ending! Despite Kaim and Amali being separated for most the book, it was still so SO good. And it's because of this separation that we see just how much these two truly love each other. Plus the trust these two have in each other is mind blowing. Kaim will fight not for himself, but for Amali. And he will destroy anyone who has done her harm. It's this knowledge that keeps Amali going even when it seems like too much. She will survive to see her enemies pay by Kaim's hands. It was perfect.

Obviously we pick up where we left off with the last book. Kaim has found himself the prisoner of the Ven, tied to a branch and being lugged back to the mountain. They fear him so, even without his hands, that they starve him and give him no water in order to weaken him. But oh do they learn that it's not enough. When he finally makes it back to the mountain, he's in for another round of suffering. Throughout it all, it's thoughts of Amali and his desperate need to get back to her that has him able to calmly deal with everything. He is even finally willing to make a deal for the power offered to him so often, only to be denied and told it isn't time yet. We learn a lot about Kaim and his past, his parents, and his powers. I loved meeting his dad for real. That wasn't what I was expecting, making it all the better. I was impressed with Kaim's restraint in not slaughtering all the Ven when he has the chance. It's definitely Amali's influence on him.

Kaim is not the only one suffering while they are apart. Amali has every intention as doing as Kaim had bid her to do, even though she doesn't have a clue how to or even where to start. But it all becomes moot when Amali gives herself up to save Enak. While captive of the Madrian army again, she suffers just as Kaim does. Not given food or water, Amali has been tied to the front of the ship where she suffers in the sun. The non soldiers on board are a superstitious lot and fearing more wrath from Lok, finally take her inside during a storm. But she is still not safe from the soldiers as more physical and mental suffering are coming for her.

These two finally come back together at the capital. I can't even tell you how excited I was for this to come about. And boy did it not disappoint. Amali does not fear dying because she knows that Kaim is coming for her. And woe to anyone who stands in his way. Even a brutal new emperor will learn his place in the world and the punishment should he touch what doesn't belong to him.

The ending sees these two making it back to Amali's people, who have now become Kaim's people. Kaim now has more power than ever before and technically is the current leader of the Ven, but we see him learning of his new role in this world. Something that with Amali by his side, he knows he can do well.

If I have to say any negative thing about this book, it's that this one seems to have been edited badly. Or at least not well. I'm talking missing words all over the place, sentences that don't make sense, and the like. To the point that occasionally it did affect the story. I didn't really care a whole lot because I was that into the story, but it was irksome.

Honestly, I am really sad this is already over. I just loved these two so freaking much. But I look forward to more from this author.

Dragged out

This book started off with a strong, engaging plot that had me hooked from the beginning. Unfortunately, the pacing quickly lost its edge. Far too much of the story was spent with Kaim trying to get back to Amali and vice versa. Instead of moving the plot forward, whole chapters were wasted on the same repetitive declarations—“I know he’ll find me and save me” and “she’s my world, I’d do everything to save her.” What could have been an emotional pull ended up feeling like filler.

On top of that, the mystery surrounding Kaim’s father dragged on endlessly. The hints were so obvious that readers could piece it together long before the big reveal, making the drawn-out search frustrating instead of suspenseful. By the time the truth finally came out, it felt more like the author was stalling than building tension.

And then came the ending. After slogging through repetitive chapters and a stretched-out revenge arc, I was hoping for a strong, satisfying conclusion. Instead, the payoff fell flat, leaving me disappointed and questioning why so much time had been wasted on buildup that never truly delivered.

Overall, while the book had an exciting start and plenty of potential, the repetitive middle, overdrawn father storyline, and lackluster ending made it more frustrating than fulfilling.

My Review for the series…this started off strong and full of action and mystery. We are immediately thrown into a very crucial event that seems like it would be the climax in most stories. Then immediately Kaim and Amali are on the move big time, showing his talents and powers. What they go through ends up feeling exhausting eventually since they are ALWAYS ON THE MOVE for the greater part of three books. Kaim’s talents were underutilized at best. So many loose ends that could have easily been wrapped up. The end was very anticlimactic and reunion between the couple after a very long separation plus reunion between her and her village were big let downs. So much repetition in their thoughts over and over again made parts drag on. Lots of typos. It feels like a lot of energy was put into politics and the landscape/world building, but detracted from the storytelling. I waited a long time to read this series and it was disappointing. Had things in common with both Assassins from dark planet warriors and another series of hers. I will say that while I don’t recommend this series, don’t let it stop you from reading Anna’s other works, which are usually really phenomenal.

Series was fascinating

So Amali and Kaim must continue there journeys separate both where captured and tortured but what keep them alive and fighting was there love for each other. Kaim gets both his hands chopped off But continually fights for his life. What I didn't understand is why Kaim never got revenge from the Inshadi who betrayed him and I would of like to read the torture of Trise the guy who tortured Amali we just go to his bloated head on a stick. Also I would of like the epilogue with maybe Amali pregnant or toddlers running around.

Ok, I loved Anna Carven’s Kordolians I enjoyed her Hidden planet series, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this, it’s a lot darker and in places uglier than anything else she’s written, but the amazing world she’s created here is filled with vibrant history and life and the characters captured my heart completely.
I highly recommend this, if you are into books like G.A. Aiken’s „The Blacksmith Queen“ then this is definitely something you’ll enjoy, not as funny but definitely as exciting.

I know this series suffers from extreme editing issues-- but, I really love it. I have re-read it many times. In a way, it is sort of a beauty and the beast riff; where no one's hands are clean the world is cut-throat.

This book is the final book of the trilogy and largely follows the MMC final rise to power and the consequences of that. It brings a lot of emotion and Some scenes of violence may be triggering. It culminates in an HEA. A fine end to the trilogy. Hence, 5 stars.

Real power in this story! I just cannot keep this book down. The story has so much action, emotions, intense rage and passion. Kaim and Amali are truly a power couple. They complement each other. They are almost the perfect couple in a world of pain, injustice and ruthless people. Their love and bond is strong and steadfast.

Oh my stars loved these 3 books so much ❤️

This was an epic journey for this couple.. the highs & lows of this tale were great. I didn’t think this would be anything close to the Dark Plant Warriors & my favourite General Tarek but it definitely was 😍 really sad it’s now finished.. I was hoping for babies & domestic bliss... maybe someday 🙏🙏🙏

Wow!
I loved this third book in the Dark Scions series.
It brought together all the storylines & threads from the previous two books to a brilliant ending.
The build up was an emotional rollercoaster & even though you just knew it would come out right the tensions was unbearable at times.
Definitely have to be read in series order but we’ll worth it!

3/4

I want to give it a four because the story is really good. But the repetitive corny lovie dovie phrases killed the momentum. After a while it felt like they were just added as a filler to make the story longer or keep it in the “romance” category. But I feel like the story it self was really good.

Great adult adventure!

I really liked the trilogy. Who doesn't love magic, dragons and a little vengeance. It brings a more realistic twist the epic adventures we love as kids. The relationship between our heros is complex and our heroin finds a little bit of her dark side while her hero finds a little more light. All in all a good read.

Neat.

I liked the characters a lot. I especially liked how the heroine had no special powers but she didn’t come across as weak or less than the hero. The storyline was good too, but for some reason I didn’t get the sense of drama that I wanted. Perhaps 3.75 stars.

A well deserved ending to a untraditional tale. Many questions are answered and both characters get a happy ending. Overall this trilogy kept my interest and I must say that this final cover is much better than the ones for the prior 2 books.

A nice story to finish the trilogy, but a bit over the top with all the running across continents and mucking with time.

While I well and truly did enjoy this series, I do very much feel that it was drawn out too long. I don’t think it warranted being 3 books long. The events major and minor in this plot could have been resolved in a single novel imo.

Enjoyed the conclusion the least of the three. HOWEVER, I really liked the plots and characters. Worth it for the over-arching story but I will not likely re-read at all.
