One look and I became his.
One look and I didn’t even think to run.
Just one look, and Juan Florez had found his golden ticket.
On the wrong side of town in a drug fueled heartland, I went in search of my younger brother, Ethan.
What I would find was something belonging to nightmares.
What I would lose would unknowingly become my fight for survival.
An escape from the clutches of evil seemed almost an impossible task. Warring with Mexico’s leading cartel would only see me closer to my grave. Or worse, used as a bargaining chip to seal a sickening deal my brother had unwillingly played a part in.
But then there was one man who ruled over me. A man who promised to destroy my world at every turn. Juan Florez. Taking on the notorious cartel son was a battle I was bound to lose.

“You can’t sell me!” I responded furiously. “This is America and that bullshit–” “No, bonita,” he laughed, taunting me. “This is Mexico. You are no longer in the land of the free. In fact, you are now in the land of the scared and the corrupt.”

Dark, disturbing from the get go! So intense couldn't put down this five star read! Melissa Jane doesn't mess around as she opens a nightmarish world where good deeds go punished. On a mission to find her baby brother Ethan before its too late, Laila finds herself on the hot-seat in human trafficking and the life she knew..... destroyed!

3.5 Stars – *Spoiler Alert*

This is the first time I think I liked the villain more than the male hero in a story. I find this disturbing and twisted because Juan is not a very nice person and what he did to the heroine was not very nice but the bastard was difficult to hate and he stole every scene he was in.

Laila finds herself in a tough situation when she goes searching for her missing brother. Naive to her surroundings, she walks right into the hands of Juan, who is part of the Mexican Cartel that trafficks women. She finds out that her kidnapping is connected to her brother and she is being used to lure him out of hiding. I liked Laila and her spirit to not give up but she was naïve to the people she was dealing with and her behavior had her cruelly beaten. She puts her faith in Aiden, the “nicer” brother of Juan to help her escape.

I liked Aiden but his role was predictable and the cliffhanger in the end was not surprising. Overall, I still enjoyed the book. It was well written and fast paced. I’m interested to find out how it ends (mostly what happens to Juan) and will be reading the second part.

**5 LOVE ME SOME AIDEN STARS**

description

LOVED this book. Seriously loved it. Melissa Jane did an amazing job writing this book and I was SHOCKED to find out that this was the first book she wrote! She writes like she's been a published author for years!

Okay, so I am going to make this quick review because I really don't want to give to much away.
Let's start with the main characters...Laila and Aiden

description

Laila was is an amazing and strong heroine. We meet her in the beginning during her quest to find her brother Ethan. Ethan has been missing for weeks and Laila is certain something is wrong. She then finds herself at, what is also described in the book as, the wrong place at the wrong time. From there, she is kidnapped. Like I said, don't want to give much away, but her story and her strength was really what drew her to me.

And Aiden. OMG Aiden. Sexy and mysterious. Laila meets Aiden after she is kidnapped. From the beginning, you don't know whether to trust Aiden or put him in the category with the evil evil evil men who took her. He's a mystery that Laila is intent on figuring out. Great chemistry between the two too btw!

The men who kidnapped Laila are horrible. There was not a nice bone in any of their bodies and poor Laila is often the target of their hate because of who she is related to.

There were many times while reading that I find myself like:
description

other times when I was like this (basically all of the scenes that have Aiden in them):
description

but most of the time, I was like this:
description

The end of this book will have you one-clicking the next book IMMEDIATELY after finishing it.

Just do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK. I am currently halfway through Crimson Desert and I am HOOKED.

After struggling to make it to 60% I decide to give up. This book might of worked if Aiden wasn't so damn nice. lol That made it to obvious of where the plot was heading. Off to find another book:)

So glad...

This is one of those times I'm so glad I checked to make sure book 2 was out before I even started book 1 (just in case). The cliffhanger isn't horrible, but it's enough to suck you in. Layla's brother, Ethan, has gone missing. Armed with fliers, she searches but, instead of finding him, catches the attention of the bad guys he's running from. Two brothers, Aiden and Juan, both want her and are both in the cartel holding her prisoner--one evil, and one good. I loved this book because as soon as you think you know which brother is which, you don't anymore. Definitely getting book 2.

Wow! Just Wow! This book was an incredible read.
Okay, so I'll summarise. Baring in mind, I didn't really know a great deal about the full content of this book before I started it. I had read the blurb and seen some teasers, but that was it.
Laila, and her brother Ethan have lived their adult lives with just each other for family. After losing both their mother and father suddenly and devastatingly. They have learnt to only depend on each other. Laila being the eldest has always looked out for Ethan, even when she got a scholarship and went off to college and traveled. Ethan was more happy to coast along in life. Yet, they both had a strict rule of 2 calls a week.
That is how Laila knows something isn't right. After 3 weeks of no contact from Ethan, it's clear to Laila he is in danger of some sort. The last time she spoke to him, he told her of how he had a new job. Good money, but no details. Just that he was in San Diego. 3 weeks later, no authorities want to help find him, so Laila is taking it upon herself to find him.
She flies from New York to San Diego and checks in to a grotty shack of a hotel, with dubious looking staff. Then starts out with her stack of posters, of her brother. In a place like San Diego, Laila and her beautiful, porcelain doll like features, are noticed. Not always in a good way. In a back street cafe, while asking about her brother. Laila is noticed by a dark, gorgeous Mexican man. His clothes and everything about him scream money and power. Unfortunately for Laila, he has been watching her.
Upon returning to her room, she feels like she is being watched. It's then with the butt of a gun smacked in to her head, she realises she was followed.
That brings us to the prologue, the start of the story and Laila, bound and blindfolded on the floor of a van, while men talk over her in thick Mexican accents. Laila has stumbled in to something bad.
From there on in, anything I say will be an obvious spoiler, and there is no way I'm going to spoil any part of this addictive and dark tale.
There is a lot of twists and turns to this story, that kept me glued to the edge of my seat. The world that Laila has unwillingly ended up in, is a dark, dark world. The level of corruption and twisted nastiness goes incredibly deep.
Laila is being used to settle someone else's debt, and the men in this business are beyond cruel. They take what they want, with no concern for anything. They are also above the law, in fact they pretty much are the law according to them, so Laila doesn't stand a chance.
Yet amongst the shadows, is someone else. Another figure among a cruel family. Aiden.
Aiden is Laila's only hope in this hideous world she has been dragged in to. The gorgeous, brooding man who is as much a part of the family and world that Laila is held captive in, yet he doesn't appear to want to be there.
There was something about this book, that made it so different, from all the rest in this genre. Yes, I have read many books like this before, but there is something about it, that makes it stand out. It had the same dark undertones, the evil beyond comprehension characters, but I think what I loved about it was it was believable. It wasn't tacky, or too much. It had an edge that made it feel so real. The fact that Laila and Aiden were amazing MC's also helped greatly. She wasn't another tragic captive, that whined and moaned then suddenly loved everyone. She remained spirited and feisty from the very beginning, even when she had nowhere to go and pain and torture looked her in the eye. She still didn't back down, she didn't lose her fight. Considering just how much she was put through, she was a strong as steel. I loved that about her. Also, the writing was incredible. The visions created were so real, and I could feel the tension and atmosphere in every little part. Even the hot and steamy scenes were intense. The ending was extremely nail biting, and a bit of a shocker, but it just made me desperate to get reading the next book in the series as soon as possible!
Again, I love, love, loved this book!! 5 Stars!!

Laila got on my nerves so bad. I understood her situation, however, I kept finding myself saying, "Just shut up and do what he tells you!" H kept trying to help h but she never really caught on to that. She never truly appreciated the help she received. Also, this 5'3 girl shouldn't have been able to walk, talk, breathe after all the beatings she'd been given.

Really good story. Excellent plot and I actually liked the cliffy ending because it gave me the info I needed.

I have to be honest, I really couldn't stand Laila and after reading the sample of the second book. It reminded me of how much I did not like her character. I did get tears eyed from all she suffered in book one.

Holy moses... what a ride that one was....

I freaking LOVED this one. It was not what I was expecting, it was better. I read this in almost one sitting. And I would have devoured it in one go had it not been for that pesky thing I call a job. It was defiantly a "pull an all nighter" and make the kids eat cereal for dinner book.

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this one. When I was asked to review, the synopsis sounded right up my alley so I was more than happy to comply. Little Doll had all the elements I love in a good book. Dark elements, crazy bad guys, a strong heroine, and a knock out leading male you can't figure out if he is one of the good guys or the bad guys.

Iam struggling a bit with trying to find words for this one, because you know me, I hate spoilers and I try hard not to divulge to much, as to not take away from the discovery as you read.

Laila finds herself kidnapped after she starts on a mission to find her brother. Naive to the world and the evil that lurks in it, she is now discovering the meaning of hell. I LOVED her. She suffers harsh consequences due to her non conformity. She refuses to go down without a fight. She refuses to accept her new fate and she has a strength that will impress you. As she struggles, she battles within herself to submit, even if the cost is her life.

Aiden, oh my.. *fans self* .. I would describe him as an anti-hero. He is the son of the man responsible for Laila's current situation. I found myself cheering for him to get the girl and then in the next moment wanting to slap him. I couldn't get a good read on him as to whether he was a good guy or a bad guy and that is part of what I loved about this book. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something would happen that left me scratching my head wondering what in the world is going on??? And as I kept turning the pages, I found myself wavering back and forth.

Add in Juan.. Aiden's brother. Evil to his core, he still surprised me. I actually found myself liking him more than I should have. I couldn't figure him out. He is the dark horse in this scenario. Mean as a snake and not afraid to take what he wants and how he wants it, he abuses his power and position for his own gain. He uses fear and manipulation to get what he wants, and he could care less who gets hurt in the process. He is positioning himself to take over his father's empire when the time comes, and is creating a name for himself using whatever means necessary. But, just when I had decided he was the devil reincarnate, he would do something that left my jaw on the floor. I have a feeling what you see is not what you get with him. But, I have to admit, I found myself guessing wrong throughout the entire book, so I could be dead wrong about Juan too. Iam dying to see how it plays out.

*side note-- this is not a love triangle. But both men play vital parts to the story. I know, sounds strange, but you just have to read it to understand what I mean*

Then just when I knew I had it figured out, I was thrown a curve ball that left my mouth hanging open. and then..... cliff hanger!!! Gah!!! I need book 2. Like right now... I need to know what is going to happen. Aiden and Laila's chemistry is undeniable. I want him to win the girl so bad. And Iam doing the hope dance that Aiden and Laila end up with an HEA, even though the circumstances that surround their meeting are so messed up.

Cliff hanger aside, this book was worth every second I spent reading it. I must warn you, if you are sensitive to abuse, rape, or violence, then this book is probably not for you.

Kidnapped and held hostage in Hector's house of horrors, Laila is being held to pay for a debt of her brother.

You just know there's going to be a boss that no one will cross, his henchmen who are looking for any opportunity to rape their captive and the good guy, who is falling for the girl while pretending to carry out the orders of the boos. Have I covered it all??

There's nothing new in this book storywise. It's been told to death.

But I'll tell you why this book is still worth reading. The characters are superbly written. They aren't just rapists, they are absolute bastards of the highest bastard decree. They don't just want to humiliate Laila and fuck her, they take great delight in beating seven bells of shit out of her. To be honest, steel toe capped boots in the ribs is gonna smart the strongest of rib cages so for a little girl to take that kind of beating and violence, well I guess that's where artistic licence comes in!

Melissa Jane is an excellent storyteller. She isn't cliched (that's supposed to have one of them accents on the e but I can't work out how to do it on my laptop lol) in her vocabulary. The baddies talk like baddies. The author has described the scenes without getting flowery.

Laila is a gobby, feisty girl who wants to stand up for herself. She, understandably, has trust issues!

The author has written this darker than a lot of other kidnappy type of books although there are elements in this book that I thought could have been expanded on, and other areas that could have been reduced, but hey ho, all in all it was a bloody good read.

I've already started on book 2 so am looking forward to maybe reading something original but even if I don't, I know it will be worth reading just because of the way it's been written.

I haven't really connected with the characters, I still feel like I am watching from the sidelines which is a bit strange because usually I can empathise with the girl being beaten/humiliated/abused etc. Usually I feel like I want to get involved and help rescue her and kill the bad guys! I just couldn't get there with this story and for that reason alone, I can't go the full 5*.

Little Doll (Bittersweet Duet #1)
By: Melissa Jane
5/5 stars

*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

*This is a dark novel. There are themes of kidnapping, drugging, physical abuse, mental abuse, rape, sexual slavery, murder & cartel workings.*

When Laila goes to look for her missing brother in a mostly Hispanic neighborhood of San Diego she finds more trouble than she bargained for. Armed with flyers and only a few rudimentary phrases in Spanish, she has no luck in finding anyone who even recognizes her brother’s photo. But that is just a pebble in the river compared to the trouble that finds her.

Laila gets drugged & kidnapped and is whisked across the Mexican border. She finds herself in the hands of the most powerful Mexican cartel that trades in drugs & girls. She has no other family than her missing brother, no one to come looking for her, to alert the authorities and no clue on even where to begin searching for her.

Aiden runs security at the cartel mansion/headquarters. But he seems to have his own plans that we don’t learn about until much later in the book. However, Laila’s arrival seems to throw a wrench into his plans and makes life somewhat difficult for Aiden. There is just something about Laila that gets to him and it not only confuses him, but also endangers him.

There are some terrible people at the mansion and terrible things do happen. Some of these scenes are well described, and others are fade-to-black scenes. I do wish that the training part of the book would have been more in depth, to really get into the characters during that power exchange. I think that would have enhanced the book.

It’s not the darkest book I’ve read since it’s not all written explicitly & full gore. But there’s definitely enough to warrant a warning. If you like dark books, you’ll like this one. There were some unexpected twists & turns, but you’re able to figure out a few things.

The ending is a non-cliffy cliffhanger and definitely leaves you wanting to read the next book in this series. I’m also very interested in the third book & learning more about Daniel.

~*~ Obsessed by books copy given in exchange for an honest review ~*~

"Submission. Obedience. From now on you live and breathe it."

Laila finds herself in the wrongnplace at the wrong time and her life is forever altered. Gone in search of her brother Ethan who has missed his twice weekly check on phone calls Laila is determined to find him as he is all she has left. Having lived through the death of one parent after another Laila stepped up and raised her brother, becoming dependent on one another. Knowing something must be wrong and that Ethan needs her she sets off on a search and rescue mission severely under prepared for what she finds.

Discovering Ethan has many secrets Laila is used as bait to lure him back out into the open. Immersed in a Mexican cartel that deals in drugs and women, Laila is thrust into the seedy world and commences a violent induction into her new life. Catching the eye of two brothers Juan and Aiden she is played between them in a strange tug of lust and ownership. Juan wants to break her, own her and be her master. Aiden snaps between cold and unfeeling to understanding and relucant kindness. Laila struggles to seperate her old self from the new submissive she is meant to be moulded into. Can Laila survive in a world she cannot even begin to comprehend? Who will break her? Hector, Juan or Sudan...who holds the key to her complete submission?

A cleverly written tale with many subtle undercurrents that sweep you out into the story and before you know it you are drowning in Aiden. He is oh so edible and I suspect there is far more to him than we first see, many layers to that enigmatic man. Laila is sassy and strong, not easily broken. She suffers but doesn't let her experience destroy her or lose hope. The ending...wow...I'm reliving straight into book two now, hence the short review ;)

A fabulous 4.5 star read.

Laila and Ethan are brother and sister, they lost their parents and so much more and now they really only have each other so when Ethan doesn't answer his phone she goes looking for him but instead of finding Ethan she finds herself in a world filled with danger, fear and just pure evil.
Somehow Ethan is connected with Hector , the most dangerous, notorious, corrupt, sadistic and powerful man in all of Mexico !
Now that he's gone AWOL poor Laila who was in the wrong place at the wrong time has become easy bait to be used as collateral damage!
Hector and his son Jaun as well as their hench men hate women and very quickly Laila becomes acquainted with their cruelty and is subjected to the most horrific beatings ,abuse and rape.
My heart just shattered for Laila and on more than one occassion I wanted to put the book down but Melissa Jane has kick ass skills and keeps you hooked !

Aiden is what I'd like to call Laila's gaurdian angel and he's doing everything in his power to protect and save her  without raising suspicion , which sometimes requires questionable methods . I do understand that there is method in his madness though.

Aiden crept into my heart and although ruthless at times he's kind and gentle. The way he dealt with Laila after the abuse and brutality she experienced at Juan's hand just had me tearing up all over again.

FFF! Laila has a strong will and its that very admirable trait that scares the s@#$ out of me ! It's that very quality that could be the death of her and trust me when I tell you it will not not be painless or quick !

Be warned in advance the end will leave you feeling like you've been kicked in the gut !
I literally skipped both a  breath and heartbeat !

A hell yeah shout from the rooftops , street corners wherever possible ★★★★★ read!

**I was kindly gifted a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review**

Little Doll isn't for those that cannot do dark. This book is dark, gritty and deals with subject matter that may not be suitable for some.
The story focuses on Laila, a 25 yr old on the cusp of a budding career when her brother disappears. Hell bent on finding him, she got more than she bargained for when she accidentally ran in to those out for vengeance. Laila's life would never be the same again. She's a feisty one that refuses to give up or give in.
Enter Aiden. I wasn't quite sure about him throughout the book. I loved him, hated him, trusted him, was leery of him..Melissa did an excellent job at channeling the emotions Laila felt about him as well. You get a real feeling of urgency as the story progresses. You just know something is coming and it isn't good.
There is a lot of story packed in these pages and you will not be disappointed. It does end in a cliff hanger but the second book is also released so no worries about waiting for the conclusion. A solid 4.5 stars from me. Loved it

Spoilers!! I warned you

I like how it is the Mexican mafia rather than something else. There was so many different mafias and love the Mexican one the best. SO this is nice.

I love Aiden he seems like a nice guy, even when he's 'dark', even if Laila doesn't want to admit it she feels something for him. Juan is a bit creepy but for some freaking reason I hope he gains some kind of redemption. Hector and kiss my butt. The russian guy they want to sell her to hope there is more about him. Bought the second one.

Can't wait to hear more about what is going to happen with Ethan. Addicted to Melissa now!!

Ruling: 4.6 Twisted Stars!

 photo Aiden-Final2.jpg

This type of story makes me question my sanity. It’s dark and intense, but somehow has a love twist that will captivate you. Is that even possible?! I highly recommend this book to dark romance readers. It may have triggers from some people, rape and submission, but the author gives just enough detail needed and then continues with the plot.

Right out of the shoot, I’m pondering about the very first quote I read:
People like to say that the conflict is between good and evil. The real conflict is between truth and lies. –Miguel Angel Ruiz

Yeah, ponder on that for a little while...

This book may have an innocent, fairy-tale like name, but the characters are anything but. Laila comes off as Ethan’s petite sister with a golden heart and a list of morals that make her pure and innocent. But don't be fooled by the exterior. Inside she is a warrior. She wants nothing more than to find what’s been taken from her, but the trail of mystery comes to an screeching halt when she taken hostage.

“It’s only fair that you know that your life is about to change.”

When someone is taken against their will you can’t expect the treatment to be pleasant. Laila is held captive in bedroom with food and water that was often laced with drugs. Her only visitors are a woman who preps her for the next meeting and the men who are responsible for escorting her to said meeting. Laila is more than a captive. She’s their next paycheck, and Hector, the kingpin of the Mexico drug and human cartel, knows she’s worth the fight…or is she. Submission is expected, but Laila’s dignity and fierce strength don't let her succumb without a fight. Time and time again her courage is traded for unwelcomed pain and injury.

“Ethan has made a lot of enemies along the way and you…you will just be used as a pawn to get him back.”

Aiden and Juan are both mysteries in this book. As sons of Hector, they seem to have the same history, but conflicting motives. At one point or another, Laila is victim to their deranged morals. Prep, train, and sell women is their business. As the fierce hand in this story, oddly enough, they have also shown signs of compassion. Aiden volunteers to “train” Laila which we learn is completely out of the ordinary for him. He is more honest and outspoken than Juan, giving Laila a sense of hope. It's one unforeseen confession throws Laila's resolve completely off course:

"Laila," he began, his voice so beautifully gently it stilled me, "I want tell you that everything will be ok, but for now you just need to trust me concerning the events that will unfold over the next week."

As this story unfolds, Aiden's promises seem to be questionable. He is the son a kingpin drug lord. He's been raised to obey and based on the praise from his father, he has done just that. Laila's future appears to be grim; possibly one of submission to the monster who offers the highest bid or even death. What unfolds is yet to be seen, as Little Doll comes to an end. Crimson Desert is the next and final story in the series. It where I feel Laila and Aiden's future will unravel.

Well Melissa Jane, I am so gonna pat you on the back girl! Wow diddly wow is all I can say. I don't know that I can award any less than 5 stars even for the bits that really had me going oh my god, and just no and what an Ahole! Because quite simply I think Melissa nailed this dark romance read.

It contains all the mix that a dark romance reader wants, hatred, shock, horror, forgiveness, redemption, subjugation, captivity, duress, non consenual episodes that were horrifying and yet very well expressed and delivered.

Melissa even had me beginning to doubt my thoughts at one part, I think those that have read this might feel the same after the event on the staircase. And I tip my hat to Melissa for giving me the element of doubt.

Now in truth, I would normally knock at least 1/2 star off because I guessed (well to me it was pretty obvious) what was going on, but then bugger it I don't care that I knew so I am sticking with 5 stars.

I am also going to mention that often books are strung out to make it into having a second book and I can absolutely belay your fears as there is not one inch of waffle, characters procrastinating overly, or strung out text in this book whatsoever. Kudos Melissa, girl you really know how to write!

I am soooo glad I was contacted via my blog to read this, you have a massive fan in me after Little Doll and I cannot wait to delve into Crimson Desert to see what happens next.

To potential readers all I say is, if you like dark captivity romances with an aura of suspense and full of horrifying scenes that come with characters that seem real then come and plant yourself into Hector's House and then hope you can escape! But don't start this book like I did at 11.30 at night as I couldn't believe how quickly 1.40am came around and I had to be up at 7am!

I received a copy of Little Doll in return for an honest review my reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

Manda's 4 Star Review
When her beloved brother and only family she has goes missing, Laila drops everything to try and find him. Armed with very little information she sets off to his last know location. Laila has no idea what she is heading into and quickly finds herself kidnapped and trapped in a nightmare she has no way of escaping.
Aiden had a plan in place but when Laila arrives his plan gets much more complicated. Playing a dangerous game with his dangerous family Aiden must find a way to right the wrongs as well as keep his family from finding out his plan. Time is running out and there is only one way to keep everything from falling apart but it is extremely dangerous and requires Laila to put her trust in a stranger who played a part in destroying her life

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book. I read the blurb and was extremely intrigued, but had no idea the direction this book would take. The subject matter in this book was not something I would normally read, but after starting it I found I could not put it down. From the very beginning the book pulls you in and takes you on an unexpected journey into a terrifying world. Laila is an amazingly strong character and battles her way through a living nightmare. The villains are truly heartless and scary and then there is Aiden who isn't quite what he seems. Lots of exciting and frightening twists and turns in this book that will leave you wanting to read book 2 immediately. I love when I find a book that really draws me in and keeps me hooked. Little Doll is definitely that kind of a book.

Laila hasn't always had a good life, but she had a brother Ethan she loved and she was happy. When Ethan appears to be missing, Laila goes in search of him. She had no idea that Ethan had gotten involved working with a Mexican Cartel and she was therefore placing herself in danger. Taken prisoner by Juan, one of the cartel leader's sons, she's held captive and promised a life she cannot imagine.

Aiden is the other brother and although he tries to hide it, he's nothing like Juan. He had a plan and seeing the beautiful Laila now held captive changes things. He'll have to improvise but he'll do whatever he can to keep her safe and get her out.

I knew from Aiden's first scene that he was nothing like the monsters that Juan and his father Hector were. There's a harsh intensity to him but also a softness that he only showed Laila. I began pulling for their escape immediately and wanted them together.

Laila is tough. She never backed down and her mouth got her into trouble more times than not. Although I understood her reasoning completely, it still annoyed me when Aiden asked that she trust him and she didn't. She's a likable strong lead female character.

There are tense moments and twists and turns. There are also some dark moments and uncomfortable scenes, but not near as bad as other books I've read regarding kidnappings. This book ends on a cliffy, but book 2 Crimson Desert is already out so there's nothing to stop you from reading this. Oh and the next book is the conclusion of Laila and Aiden's story, so even more reason to get started.

Well this is not your everyday romance read. It's dark, it's gritty and it's different. It's also very well written. Melissa Jane has a writing style like no other and I've read thousands of novels. It's quite formal, descriptive and a little distant—but wow does it paint a picture in your mind. You get the feeling that every single word she uses has been carefully chosen and selected to ensure maximum impact. She's taken the time and thought to build a world that touches everyone of your senses.

I'm not going to touch on the plot. That will be for you to experience after you buy this book. Let me just say. It was different, thought provoking and perplexing. Did I get the gushy, feel good romance feeling—no. Would I recommend the book? ABSOLUTELY. This is a book for the jaded romance fan. When you're done with cliched biker romances and pretend bad boys and heroines that have been dealt a rough deal—read Little Doll.
Melissa Jane is that rare new voice that has the power to talk to you and make you feel something different.

Great Job! When can I get my hands on Book 2?

Laila is on a mission to find her brother. Kidnapped herself, she is suddenly thrust in to the depths of a personal hell. She doesn’t go down without a fight though, and has to suffer the consequences for it. She doesn’t want to submit, even if it will cost her her life.
Aiden is the son of the man whom is responsible for Laila’s kidnapping. He is more of an anti-hero. I loved him and I loathed him at the same time. Enter Juan, who is the epitome of evil. Mean, hateful, and in line to take over his fathers “empire”.
This book is a complete roller coaster. I wish I could give you more of the story, but I hate spoilers and I don’t want to give anything a way. I loved the fact that I could NOT figure things out. Just when I thought I had it figured out a curve ball was thrown and just sent me reeling in another direction. This book was AHMAZING! I can’t say enough. Pay heed though, it is dark. So, if you do NOT like darker aspects of reading this isn’t for you. For me though, it was perfect. I loved it!

I'm relatively new to the genre of dark reads and I think this one definitely falls into that category. This was quite an intense read, there are parts that are very dark indeed and I will warn you you may find some parts difficult to read. However it's not the darkest book out there, and if you are a fan of that genre then this is one you definitely need to read.
Laila is looking for her younger brother who has been missing for a few weeks, unfortunately for her whilst asking around about him she captures the attention of the wrong people. Laila is kidnapped by a cartel family who trade not just drugs but women too!
I found this book to be a real page-turner, I couldn't wait to find out how things worked out for Laila. And once I reached the end I discovered a cliff-hanger! I need answers and I need that 'wtf' moment at the end explained!! I definitely recommend this to fans of dark reads and for anyone considering venturing into that genre, this would be a good book to start with.
