Ceridwyn Brent has been through a lot in the past few years. She’s been kidnapped, assaulted, brainwashed, used to summon an army across dimensions, walked across an alien world to rescue her lover, and had to embody an ancient war goddess to save a world… A bit of normality would seem in order.

But when you’re the most powerful sorceress on the planet, even if very few people know that, and one of the best magical theoreticians in the world, and you have an entire demonic realm to run, normal is not the same as it is for everyone else.

I was born in the vicinity of Hadrian's Wall so perhaps a bit of history rubbed off. Ancient history obviously, and border history, right on the edge of the Empire. I always preferred the Dark Ages anyway; there’s so much more room for imagination when people aren’t writing down every last detail. So my idea of a good fantasy novel involved dirt and leather, not shining plate armour and Hollywood-medieval manners. The same applies to my sci-fi, really; I prefer gritty over shiny.

Oddly, then, one of the first fantasy novels I remember reading was The Dark Is Rising, by Susan Cooper (later made into a terrible juvenile movie). These days we would call Cooper’s series Young Adult Contemporary Fantasy and looking back on it, it influenced me a lot. It has that mix of modern day life, hidden history, and magic which failed to hit popular culture until the early days of Buffy and Anne Rice. Of course, Cooper’s characters spend their time around places I could actually visit in Cornwall, and South East England, and mid-Wales. In fact, when I went to university in Aberystwyth, it was partially because some of Cooper’s books were set a few miles to the north around Tywyn.

I got into writing through roleplaying, however, so my early work was related to the kind of roleplaying game I was interested in. I wrote “high fantasy” when I was playing Dungeons & Dragons. I wrote a lot of superhero fiction when I was playing City of Heroes. I still loved the idea of a modern world with magic in it and I’ve been trying to write a novel based on this for a long time. As with any form of expression, practice is the key and I can look back on all the aborted attempts at books, and the more successful short stories, as steps along the path to the Thaumatology Series.

As of 2015, I have thrown in my lot with writing. After thirty years of being a computer programmer I am making enough money to quit the day job and write full time. Dreams, occasionally, come true. My favourite authors are Terry Pratchett, Susan Cooper, and (recently) Kim Harrison. Kim’s Hollows books were what finally spurred me to publish something, even if the trail to here came by way of Susan, back in school, several decades ago.

This is one of the series i re-read every few months or whenever there is a new book. I love the take on the combination of Science and Magic. The real strength of the series is the main characters, and the great supporting characters. I highly suggest you try the series.

This book really made me want more.. I'm hoping to see how Ceri develops the 3 realms.. There are so many possible pitfalls, yet Mr. Teasdale has proved very good at taking what might be a very human problem and making it magical and interesting...

Some things that would be cool to see:
Cery with her new guards wandering around London.. Dealing with human power brokers .. Developing the Magic class.. Dealing with Humans fear all these changes will bring.. Going to Australia and the south pacific.. Finding more non human offspring of dragons?.. the changes this will bring to the realm and Otherworld. Sooooooooo many possibilities... AND omg Dealing with Brazil

Or the more common problems like having to buy more land around Hightowers so Lily can have her Tub errrr i mean for Staff and offices..

I really hope some of the logistics of diplomatic and trade relations is in the next few books. I love books where you see a kingdom built from scratch.

ok enough for now :)

Oh another one, Ceri dealing with being the most famous person on the planet, soo many possible scenes there.

A fun, erotic fantasy

Niall Teasdale has been a pleasant surprise. The dark triad trope - witch, werewolf, vampire (or demon) - has become a staple of the paranormal genre, so much so that it's become somewhat cliched. Teasdale has taken the basic premise, thrown in a dash of erotica and a surprisingly refreshing understanding of quantum physics and turned the whole into the Thaumatology series.

The series wasn't perfect - lack of editing consistency occasional broke the suspension of disbelief, and the secondary characters were occasionally wooden, especially toward the end. It was also not clear if book 12 was the end. However, overall, with the warning of definite R rated content, it was still an entertaining read.

Just keep them coming.

Niall really knows how to weave a series together. I truly find myself engaged with the tale. I am a person who judges how good a story is by how often I can reread it,as much as it's contents. This is my tenth passage through the twelve books that has been provided to us, so I highly recommend all that you should read all of the titles that have been given to us. Please come join me in all the author can provide.

Spectacular series❗. In the final page we learned of this very young werewolf female cub named Crierwy. I think it would be awesome to do a book where we were to learn more about how this new sorcerer evolved ❓.
This is the final book in the Thaumatology series and what a journey it turned out to be.

Excellent wrap up

This is a wonderful ending to an energetic and fast paced series. I really enjoyed it and the urban fantasy world portrayed.

Good, but slightly disjointed.

Ceri settles into her role a Overlord of the Demon realm, but still has to juggle her academic career, her job at Carter's club and a crapload of responsibility along the way. Ceri and Lily are moving up in the word, now all they have to do is keep up with the hurtling pace they set and keep it all together.

It took a while, but vengeance is so sweet when it's done right.
