Comic Review: Thundercats: Lost #1 (Dynamite Entertainment)

Just when you thought the sands of Third Earth had settled, Thundercats: Lost #1_ drops like a Thundertank into a warzone. Spinning out of the pages of the ongoing Thundercats series, writer Ed Brisson takes us on a darker, more introspective path with this companion title that doesn't just expand the mythos—it reshapes it.
This isn’t a rehash or a nostalgia-fueled cash-in. Thundercats: Lost takes the familiar and injects it with mystery, emotional weight, and a bold sense of direction. The issue picks up threads left loose in the main series and refocuses the lens on the Thundercats who were scattered or presumed dead, diving into survival stories, secrets, and sacrifices that weren’t previously explored.
Brisson’s writing shines with emotional gravity and strong pacing. There's a sense of disorientation—deliberate and effective—that mirrors the characters’ own fractured sense of place and purpose. He respects the classic tone but isn’t afraid to mature it, giving us characters who are more reflective and burdened, yet still driven by the core values of the Thundercats legacy.
George Kambadais’s art maintains the visual energy established in the main Thundercats series but takes on a moodier palette here, aligning with the title's more serious tone. His character designs continue to balance stylized dynamism with classic familiarity, but in Lost, you can see he’s stretching into darker, more dramatic visual territory. The layouts are clean and effective, letting the story breathe when it needs to and tightening the action when the stakes rise.
The standout here is the theme of survival—both physical and ideological. These aren’t just warriors lost on a distant planet; they're champions trying to hold onto the last threads of hope, identity, and loyalty in the face of isolation and unknown dangers.

Still going strong (if bleak), with this being a fugitive story, depicting the level of the Lost Thundercats' desperation. One must note the almost casual killing outside of the actual warzone, which further sets the tone of the comic.
