fun homage

a solid beginning to an alternate history tale where humans discovered monsters in the 1900s.

the backup doesnt tie into this story but another series by the same writer. So it may feel random if you havent read Indigo Children.

Lost Fantasy #1 is an Image Comics comicbook written by Curt Pires with art Luca Casalanguida.

Set in alternate timeline where monsters cross portals between “The World Beneath“ and Earth where legendary warriors protect against outbreaks. An FBI agents is called into action to investigate a car accident in the middle of the woods that isn’t what it seems.

While there is a lot of lore thrown into this oversized issue, it lacks on explaining what is happening now. The backstory may have been better served as exposition in a future issue. As is, the main story just seems to be going through some fantasy tropes without giving any reason as to why.

I’m not really hooked or impressed enough to continue this series by volumes. Maybe I will revisit it if a complete collection is ever released.

Interesting. I was really hoping for some true high fantasy. I'm not a big fan of when fantasy and the modern world mix. I'm also not a big fan of mystical sidekicks being quirky and snarky and very modern in lingo. Not for me. The actual story is fine. A lot of mystery going on. Both with the setting and with the main character. I'm curious to know more, but I don't think I'll be getting anymore of the series. Maybe if I hear it gets better. I might grab the trade.

Really really fun story, it just felt a little too long. I wish it ended with that “BANG!” Or even the kid in the interrogation room as a cliffhanger, but I get trying to set up lore and this world. Strong opening, funny side characters, and some really awesome art! Definitely going to check out the next issue!

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for giving me volume 1 of this comic.

Ngl the action scenes were pretty good along with the main character and his black shades Jedi sidekick but the pacing was rather too fast for me…..
