My next story begins with Velrek, where Lord Rafe and Lady Adele's arrival was cause for much celebration and rejoicing. However Finan of Gournay, Rafe's foster brother and the captain of Valreks army, could not help a lingering feeling of worry. Were Rafe and Adele truly safe from Lord Kyule's hate? Adding to Finan's problems was the unsettling presence of Rafe's sister, Lady Esme. Used to keeping his distance from the woman of Valrek, Finan found that he could no longer escape as before. As danger and treachery enveloped Valrek, Finan and Esme found themselves drawn together to fight the shadowy assailant that threatened the lives of those they loved. What secrets would they unearth in their search for the enemy that taunted them? Would they find that their stories were more closely linked than either of them ever knew? Allow me please to answer these questions...
My name is Dee Dee, I'm twenty seven and I live in a beautiful part of Devon, England, with my family.
That introduction made me feel a little bit like I was on Blind Date!!!
As our house is in the countryside we have some unusual neighbours including chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants, a cat (that adopted us when we moved in!!!) and some koi. I also have a very long suffering younger sister, Jingle, who is a brilliant guitar player. She keeps me supplied with coffee and brownies, generally making sure that the Chant household doesn't grind to a halt.
I really hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them. I love reading and have a kindle, I enjoy almost every genre; if there is adventure and romance I'll be there with coffee and a brownie! I also like to cook and wear impractical high heels! You may also have noticed that I have a horrible addiction to exclamation marks!!!
"Love is not a lightning strike, Adele; 'tis a tide. Slow and measured it sweeps over us, its pace gentle and quiet. We do not even realise we are out of our depth until we find ourselves floating."
My favourite words of wisdom from 'The Vow', penned by Lady Quill. What I love about D.D. Chant's books are the solid storylines. Instead of wishy-washy heroes and heroines, she writes the (almost) believable adventures and accounts of realistic characters. When I finish one of her stories, I never feel that I have wasted my time flitting through the pages of a trashy novel. DeeDee provides us with a precious glimpse into her imagination, allowing a beautifully satisfying escape from reality for a little while. Her stories have substance and something for everyone, be they romantic, adventurous or inclined to the historical.
'The Vow' follows on seamlessly from the first book of The Lady Quill Chronicles, 'The Promise'. Rafe and Adele return to Valrek and are married, yet true safety still eludes them. We are introduced to Rafe's sisters, Esme and Aisly, and further our acquaintance of Finan, Leofric and the brothers Gradock. The witty dialogue between characters and the descriptive narration capture the heart and bring a smile to the face. I can't wait for the next time Lady Quill flourishes her magical pen. :)
This was another fun medieval read and I was happy to be reunited with all the characters I came to love in The Promise. This picks up right where the first one leaves off, I’d recommend reading them together. It’d been a couple years since I read the first book and I was glad I re-read it before starting this one. I’m sure you don’t have to do that to get in to the story, but for me I was glad I did. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll love this one too!
Finan was wounded in the last book and is still recovering from those wounds when there is another attack on Rafe’s life, sustaining even more wounds. He hates been fussed over, especially by a women and is horrified when Rafe’s sister Esme is the one assigned to take care of him. He was pretty rough with her throughout the book, she really had a lot thicker skin than I would have had. Or maybe, I am just way too stubborn and would have left him to his own devices until he treated me better. I was glad she stuck around though and help tear down his defenses. It was fun to watch their relationship develop.
The story is told from a few different POV, so we get to reunite with all our favorite characters and it helps the story progress. I think my favorites this time around were Leofrick (who is charming and adds a fun comedic element, but has more going on than what he lets people see) and Daegmund (who is a big jerk, but a confident one that I couldn’t help but like).
Overall, a fun read and a fun series. Can’t wait to read about more of these characters!
These are really cute, clean books. I feel like this one was better than the first one. This really isn't a stand alone book, it starts right where the first one left off. If you like medieval adventure/romance, I would recommend this series.
This was a great sequel to book 1 and I am looking forward to book 3. This is one of those series that has characters I like and want to know more about. Plus, this has action going on besides the romance part and that is always better.
>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This book is the second book in the Lady Quill Chronicles. This is a regency romance that ends in an HEA with more of the story to come.
>This story continues just after book one ends. Adele is brought to Valrek, the family castle and meets Rafe's 2 sisters and mother. I love how the reader was treated to the wedding between Adele and Rafe. Among the romance, there is a sinister air. Someone is trying to kill Rafe and his trusted man, Finan, is injured. As Rafe's sister, Esme, cares for Finan, a new romance begins to bloom. There is also a battle of wills between the other sister, Aisly, and Rafe's strange friend, Daegmund. The comic relief is in the verbal sparring between these two characters. I sense a budding romance, but nothing really happened.
>All of Rafe's friends were on the scene, as were some poignant scenes with Rafe's father. All the men respect Lord Brogan and the love he has for them all shows. The evil man is not really dealt with and a new unknown enters the mix. Who is the Brotherhood and what is their real purpose?
>This is a very clean romance. There was no descriptive wedding night scenes. I was wishing for a reminder that there had been a wedding night between Rafe and Adele. Maybe with shy blushing at breakfast or something. This was the only thing I felt was missing from the book. The story flowed well, had a lot of surprise and suspense and a bit of romance. I thought book 2 surpassed book 1 by far.
> This book is for a young adult (14+) and adult audience.
The Vow by D.D. Chant The Lady Quill Chronicles Book Two Finan of Gournay is one of four foster sons to Lord Brogan of Valrek. Finan lives to protect this House and all within. After his blood brother Evoric was killed in the Calis battle, a part of Finan died as well and changed him forever.
Lady Esme is a Daughter of Valrek and she missed her childhood friend and was determined to find the person Finan once was, even if she has to put up with his brutal assault of words, as she cared for him after he was injured.
The reader will understand a lot more of all that is happening if they read the first book in this series, The Promise. There are many characters, but not so hard to follow once you learn them. Rafe and Adele begin the adventure in book one but the reader also meets many of the other characters. The same is true in this book. Leofric of Drogan, Daegmund of Gradock and Rand of Targhe along with Rafe’s other sister Aisly. The books finish without letting you hang, but keep you looking forward to the next love stories...andDD adventures to come. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
The Vow by D.D. Chant is my third book from this author. Broken City and The Promise are the others. I love this author. She is an awesome story teller and her books are very clean. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! I asked Chant and she said there were 5 books in the Lady Quill Chronicles. So readers, THREE more to come!!!
Sorry, I got off track!
The Vow is a continuation of The Promise. It is nice because normally when the author ends a book and writes a sequel about the same group of people, but not the main two from the first book. We get to see the last set of characters as props or get glimpses about them and their lives, but we don't get the dialog from them. Chant adds more main characters, but you still get the dialog from the previous main characters, she just adds to them. And does it with flare. So in this book you get four points of view, which as a reader is exciting. You get to see how people read and misread each other, but you don't have to guess a lot about actions.
This is a wonderful story, but read The Promise first! If you have a Kindle, it may be a free book. It was when I got it….
I liked this book better then the first. I knew everyone and when points of view were switched around it was easy to follow who it was. This got a little crazy in the first book. I just love this little family and I don't want to wait to read the third I might forget all these great characters. The book had tons of the first books love story and it went right from one book to the next. I would recommend reading one right after the other. The love story was interesting and if it hadn't been for all the other stuff going on I would have gotten frustrated with it. The leading man basically thinks woman are a plague and the love story is a frustrating one.
This one was just as good as good one and I was very glad I was able to read these one after the other. Another hit and run for the author with an amazing plot line , well written characters and what more can you ask for with the HEA ... In alot of ways book two is better then the first but the author did amazing on both books. There is no heavy love scenes , but still a fantastic read.. Well worth picking it up.
nice story! I felt the multiple POV though to be distracting some times as well as the excessive explanations of every person's character and personality. Chant does a great job already in "showing" that she could leave out on some on the "telling". Finan was incredibly endearing. Will definitely read the sequel!
