Lessons from a Tour Guide

Rate this book
Noah Eversham does not trust Hanna Poole. But she is not going to let that ruin her perfect plans–not even when he forces his way onto his grandmother’s trip to Paris.

Noah’s wealthy grandmother just hired Hanna to be their tour guide, and she needs a review from Hazel and her well-to-do friends to successfully launch her new travel agency.

Hanna will not let the guarded and suspicious Noah, or his annoyingly handsome face, distract her. He can scowl at her all he likes, but nothing can rain on her croissant parade.

Until Grandma Hazel and her group of septuagenarian friends become more interested in matchmaking Noah and Hanna than the city of lights.

For the girl who has a plan for everything, there’s no guide to falling in love.

“Who takes care of you while you are busy taking care of everyone else?” “Me, I guess. Someone else would just get it wrong.”“If you gave me a chance, I would like to get it right.”

This was such a warm and light hearted read! I loved how the tension between Noah & Hanna was slowly built and because of the slow burn, their relationship felt authentic. The side characters, especially Hazel were so supportive and each had their own distinctive personalities which was fun! Hanna was kind, sweet and passionate and while Noah was guarded initially, I loved how he slowly warmed up to her and took care of her. So if you're looking for a feel-good, light and pleasing romance, you should definitely pick this book up!

I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review

Travel guide Hanna has arranged her first big attended tour for her fledgling company, and it’s with a client she’s worked with often through her previous employer. The stakes and the expectations she’s imposed on herself are super high, so she’s thrown a bit when the grandson of the client questions her credentials and casts a jaundiced eye on her fees. Infuriating as he is, he’s also exceedingly handsome, and Hanna admires his concern for his beloved grandmother.

Since making a disastrous decision to enter a business partnership with someone he thought trustworthy fleeced his grandmother’s company of nearly its entire worth, CFO Noah is suspicious of anyone who might possibly be out to take advantage of her. Accordingly, he suspects the young tour hostess’s fees are too steep for a service that one could book without a middleman. The buttoned up schedule-driven Hanna is determined to prove him wrong, and along the way they just might find they’re well suited for each other.

This is a new author for me, and it’s a pretty good beach read, especially given it’s debuting at the start of summer, and there’s a great deal of detail about the logistics of travel, and some of the Parisian sites the group visit. The only criticism I have is the dialogue: it would flow better with a more generous use of contractions, as most people use them.

I received an advance reader copy from The Author Agency, and I’m sharing my honest review.

This debut novel by Kristen Jennings is very good! Hanna is a tour guide trying to make her own way starting her own luxury travel agency. Noah is a grump, who is overly concerned about his grandmother, Hazel, being swindled after she booked a trip with Hanna. Hanna now has to prove herself to Noah as well as plan an amazing trip for Hazel and her friends. As the trip progresses, the relationships grow. Will Hanna and Noah end up finding common ground? The drama doesn't end there. Hanna comes home to some earth shattering news, that has the potential to put her new business under. Read this fun rom-com to find out how everything will end! I look forward to reading future books by Kristen Jennings.

This was a good read for me. Very sweet with main characters that recognized their flaws and owned them. The meddling grandmas aspect was so fun to me! The MC’s had good banter which was also fun. There was only 1-2 shmexy scene(s) but it felt right for this story. Any more than that would have felt forced or wrong. Overall I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t love. I wish Goodreads would let you give half stars! This is a 3.5⭐️ for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

What a wonderful debut novel by Kristen Jennings! Lesson From A Tour Guide is a fun and romantic read that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I love her writing style, the character development, and the story that she told with this book. Our MCs are at immediate odds, which makes their interactions tension filled, quick witted, and heated from the beginning. Each is trying to prove something to themselves and see the other as an obstacle. As they continue their journey together, they find romance, fun, and a missing piece.

Hanna is motivated, smart, and has a love for showing travelers the best of the area they are touring. In starting this business, she doesn’t have any room for failure. When her first group arrives, she isn’t ready for the grandson of one who questions her every move. Although he challenges her, she can’t help but notice how handsome he is. Beyond that, he really seems to care for his grandma and that resonates with her.

Noah is an intelligent CFO who doesn’t want to see his grandma taken advantage of…again. After a business deal goes very wrong, he feels responsible to ensure it never happens again. He travels with her basically because he thinks the fees Hanna charges are high. What this straight laced CFO isn’t ready for is how Hanna meets him head on with every question, quip, and second guess he makes towards her. Intrigued doesn’t even begin to explain how he feels towards this.

Kristen definitely did her research in regards to traveling, booking, and Paris. The vernacular used while Hanna is consistent with guided tours and the sights they visit in the book. I appreciate when authors put research into the topic they are writing. This was a great additive to the debut novel and one that new authors sometimes miss. All in all, this is a great beach read story that keeps readers entertained from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see what Kristen writes next and hope to see more of her soon.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Title: Lessons from a Tour Guide
Author: Kristen Jennings
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Pages: 284

Rating: 4⭐️/5

“You mean, beyond your plan to scam my grandmother and her friends put of thousands of dollars with this sham of a tour company?”

After a decade of planning dream vacations for other people, 28-year-old Hanna Poole is finally launching her own travel company, Luxe Travel. All she has to do is crush her very first client meeting—until a rare bad call (taking the train from Long Beach to San Diego) sends her day spiraling. Enter Hazel Eversham, sweet retiree and seasoned traveler… and her ridiculously handsome, extremely skeptical grandson, Noah. Her very first potential client, Hazel Eversham, brings along her sharp, suspicious grandson Noah, who immediately questions Hanna’s credibility and pricing. But Hanna’s determined to prove herself, armed with nothing but experience, a worn-in analog watch from her dad, and a tightly color-coded itinerary. Between professional tension, a scenic group trip to France, and unexpected sparks, Hanna’s first job might just change everything. plan.

Light, charming, and super easy to get into—this story was such a refreshing and quick read! I loved how the author made Hanna feel so real—flawed, relatable, and easy to connect with—such a natural, human touch. She’s not perfect, but that’s what makes her so likable. Her previous travel company name, Trips Ahoy, was super cute and clever! The ending was sweet, and I loved how Noah showed up for her after the trip. The pacing kept things moving, the plot stayed consistent, and everything flowed smoothly from start to finish. While the trip itself was full of little moments and work-related tension, if you’re into breezy romances with heartfelt moments and Hanna figuring things out one chaotic trip at a time, this one’s worth checking out!

A big thanks to The Author Agency and Kristen Jennings for providing me with a digital ARC of this book!

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁:

If you’re looking for a cute vacay romance this is the one is for you. I loved traveling with the FMC and her group to Pairs. It was so fun to explore the different spots I have been to IRL and see them from a different perspective. I loved all the found family vibes. Plus this book has a great message about normalizing asking for help and the fact you don’t have to carry all the burden alone.

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:

Hanna is trying to launch her own travel business and the stakes are high as she has a lot to prove and can’t fail. She landed a group trip to Paris where she’ll host 4 elderly besties on a girls trip. She has setup every last detail and is ready to make her mark but she didn’t count on Hazel’s grandson Noah being an obstacle and joining them.

Noah calls her tour guide Barbie and he’s going to make sure she doesn’t take advantage of his grandma and her friends. But the more time Noah spends with Hanna the more he realizes she is more than meets the eye. She in turn makes him want to ungrumpify and maybe even let someone in for the first time in a long time. Coming on this trip may be the best decision he ever made.

But this is a vacation for Noah and for Hanna it’s a job. She has a lot on the line and she can’t mix business with pleasure. So even though she feels the vibes between her and Noah she can’t go there she just needs the ladies group to stop shipping them together.

You met Hanna and Noah when she plans his grandmothers trip to Paris. What she never expected on that trip was to fall in love with one of the group members grandson. Noah gives her a run for her money and makes things very difficult for her and she sets him in his place.

They both are the same person, and once they get to know each other they start seeing each other in a different light.

His mending grandmother and her friends will send you laughing at their antics and fun, caring and crazy old lady shenanigans. These are the type of ladies you want to be friends with and go on trips with. Who wouldn’t want to go dancing and a see a cabaret and then try and convince each other to start one at the senior center.

Noah knows being with her is a challenge and she knows her boundaries with getting involved with clients. It doesn’t end there, it only makes things stronger when she realizes just how much she needs someone to take care of her, and how much she needs him in her life to do that. When things get rough she tries to push him away but he gives her the space she wants. While it breaks her heart she lets him back in and together they face the problem head on.

I do recommend this book, for the fact that it’s Ana easy read, some good laughs and a romance blooming in the most romantic city in the world.

Hanna is starting her own business as a luxury trip planner and tour guide. Her first client, Hazel, wants to go to Paris with her friends and have a good time with museums, dancing and a cabaret. Her grandson, Noah, wants to make sure Hanna is not taking advantage of his grandmother. Hanna sets out to convince Noah she can be trusted and will plan the best experience for his grandmother. The trip turn into Noah having the best experience getting to know Hanna thanks to some strategic moves on the rest of the groups part.

I thought this book was cute. It was light hearted as the trip progresses. I would have liked a little more interference on the part of the Grandmother since it was a listed trope. Maybe a little more comic relief too. Hanna’s angst about starting a new business came up a lot in the book, especially when she started having feelings for Noah. Noah was constantly being a gentleman, which was hot. There is spice, but not very much. A scene or two. Most of the book is about the trip and Hanna trying to prove herself.

It was cute, but just fell a little short for me. I would have given it a 3.5 ⭐️ but rounded up since that isn’t an option. If there is another book about Noah’s friend or Hanna’s friend, I would still read it. 3/5🌶️

I was given an advanced copy of this book.

This book was a breath of fresh air and a gentle reminder that we don’t always have to carry everything alone. 🧳🌍💬

Hanna is strong, independent, and used to doing life solo. Launching her own travel biz? Brave. Facing perfectionism and personal struggles? Even braver. 💪👩‍💼✈️

Then enters Noah—dragged along by his spirited grandma 👵😂—with zero trust in Hanna or her trip. But watching her in her element shifts everything. He begins to see the woman behind the itinerary—capable, compassionate, and real. 💼🌅💖

As they navigate countries and connection, Noah finds himself falling for the very woman he once doubted. And Hanna? She begins to realize that asking for help doesn’t make her weak—it makes her human. 👫🗺️🫶

Of course, life loves to shake things up just when it’s all falling into place. Hanna pushes people away when things get hard… but her growth? So real. So inspiring. 🌧️➡️☀️

A relatable love story that captures the beauty in vulnerability and learning to lean on others. Minimal spice but full heart. (Yes, the open-door scene is worth it at the end 😏🔥)

📍 Perfect if you love:
🧭 Travel romance
👩‍❤️‍👨 Slow burn
🧠 Emotional growth
🤍 Strong female lead
🌱 Healing and heart

I picked this book up at a book festival over the weekend, and I’m happy I got it after hearing the author describe the story. It was a very sweet, wholesome story. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype I was expecting based on the author’s description. It seemed like this should have been a romcom, with Noah and Hanna at odds well into the book. Instead, Noah got over his issues within the first quarter, if not earlier, and the book turned into mushy lovey dovey goo. The reader is told that Hanna and Noah had periodic phone calls, which are supposed to be the basis for them letting go of their animosity and beginning to fall for each other. But those are all off page. Also, Noah was way too perfect. The four women in Hanna’s tour group were supposed to be bigger characters, but only Hazel and Lillian were really memorable. One little gripe - the legal issues were predictable and the actual mechanics of the legal dispute were just wild. And probably my biggest gripe - why does nobody use contractions when they’re speaking to each other??? It’s insane. Who talks like that? I don’t mind some grammar issues from indie authors, but please, at least read your dialogue out loud.

I need everyone to go grab this book now!

Lessons from a Tour Guide is a dislike to lovers, he falls first, slow burn, forced proximity, found family romance between Hanna and Noah.

I really felt for Hanna. I know what it’s like to have family not believe you’re capable of fulfilling your dreams, but I loved how she doesn’t let that take away from her life that she loves, and she finds the love she wants from her found family. I loved watching her open up to Noah the more time they spend together, and I think so many readers will be able to relate to her.

All Noah wants is for his loved ones to be happy, safe, and taken care of, and I loved seeing this apply to Hanna as he falls for her. He refuses to let her give up on her dreams or feel that she’s unworthy of them, and I loved that he will do anything to keep her happy, safe, and loved. I can see why Hanna falls for him, and I think so many readers will fall for him too.

Thank you so much to @authorkristenjennings and @theauthor.agency for this amazing arc!

Such a fun and heartwarming read! The mix of travel, romance, and personal growth made it easy to get lost in the story.

Hanna is determined to build her travel company and prove herself as a capable tour guide. But when she meets Noah, the skeptical, protective grandson of her client, she realizes winning people’s trust isn’t always easy. Their initial tension keeps things interesting, but as they embark on a group trip to Paris, the dynamic between them shifts, bringing unexpected moments of connection and understanding.

The backdrop of Paris made everything even more magical. The supporting characters, Hazel and her friends, brought humour to this romance making the story even more enjoyable.

This book had the perfect balance of lighthearted fun, emotional depth, and slow-burn romance.

At 28, Hanna Poole is at last launching her own travel agency, Luxe Travel, after a decade of planning other people's perfect vacations. She only has to mess up her initial client meeting before an unexpected incident (taking the train from Long Beach to San Diego) sends her day into chaos. Introducing Hazel Eversham, an enchanting retiree and experienced traveler, along with Noah, her exceedingly skeptical and strikingly handsome grandson. Hazel Eversham, her initial potential client, brings her cautious and discerning grandson Noah, who quickly questions Hanna's dependability and pricing.

CFO Noah is cautious of anyone who could be attempting to deceive his grandmother, as he made the unfortunate decision to enter a business partnership with someone he thought was trustworthy, leading to the loss of nearly the entire worth of his grandmother's company. He consequently thinks that the costs of the young tour hostess are too steep for a service that can be booked directly from the source.

Hanna, driven by a rigid timetable, is keen to contradict him, and they might find out that they complement each other well along the way. I loved their relationship. I really enjoyed tracking their characters as they explored every place. The conclusion was outstanding, and I believed Noah performed exceptionally well in assisting Hanna during the post-trip events. This author is unfamiliar to me, and since it releases at the start of summer, it's a quite good beach read. It elaborates extensively on the group's holiday arrangements and various attractions they visit in Paris.

Hanna is a tour guide, planning a trip for a previous client when her grandson, Noah, joins one of their meetings and makes it clear that he doesn’t trust Hanna at all. When he decides he’s going to tag along to the trip to Paris with his grandmother and her friends, Hanna thinks she has to constantly prove herself to him. But Hanna wasn’t expecting to fall in love in the City of Love.

I really enjoyed this! It was cute and sweet and took its time, with Paris as its backdrop. I totally understood where Noah was coming from at first and got why Hanna had her guard up so much. They’re just so cute together!!

This book was a cute, fun and easy read. It had the tension, the banter, the flirting and a humorous and slightly meddlesome group of older ladies. Noah and Hanna had a rocky start but after pushing each other’s buttons a bit, but the irritation tension gradually turned into romantic tension-who doesn’t enjoy a bit of sassy banter to help things moving towards the direction of spicy?! They are definitely kindred spirits and have a sweet understanding of each other in a short amount of time. Their progression of feelings towards each other was cute, sweet and a little sassy at times. Gives you those giddy feelings like when you have a crush and several laugh out loud moments. This is the kind of story you want to read in one sitting- great for a roadtrip, the beach, a day of down time.

Hanna is hired by Noah’s grandmother to be the tour guide for their family trip to Paris. Noah doesn’t trust Hanna because he thinks she has a hidden agenda to get good reviews for her new venture, but she simply wants the family to have a good time. Hanna is taken aback by Noah’s good looks, but tries to keep her cool.

During the trip Hazel, Noah’s grandmother, tries her matchmaking ways with Hanna and Noah. Lessons From A Tour Guide was a heartfelt love story and I loved every minute of it!

I absolutely LOVED this book and cannot wait to read more from Jennings. I loved how Hannah was portrayed as a strong FMC, and Noah as someone who encouraged and supported those traits.

Jennings did such an awesome job with a natural flow of dialogue between all of the characters, as well as making the reader feel like they are on this wild tour with them.

I kinda of hope that Jennings will write a book of Bennett and Will’s stories in the future 👀

This contemporary romance was adorable! 🥰 The Grumpy VS sunshine relationship was perfect!! I loved the main characters but really loved Hazel and Mai (side characters)! I have never read a book that traveled abroad in the story so that was also a fun portion of this novel! Kristen Jennings is a great indie author and I recommend this book to anyone who wants just a little bit of spice and lots of falling in love 🥰

3.5* for me. I really enjoyed this book. It makes me want to book a trip planned by someone else and just show up. Hanna was a force to be reckon with and I really like her growth in the book and how she realized that it is ok to have someone to help take care of her. Noah had a quiet strength about him that is just what Hanna needed. The ending was great.
