Bailey Family #3

Her Daughter's Lies

Rate this book
Ten years ago my life was destroyed. And now I want revenge…

I gasp out loud as I step through the door of the beautiful country hotel. My heart swells and my hands fly to my mouth in shock as I see the room is filled with my friends and family, all gathered to celebrate my special birthday.

Everyone raises their glasses into the air to toast me. I should be enjoying the moment but I’m on edge and I can’t relax. Because they don’t know why I’m really here…

Ten years ago, my life was ripped apart at this hotel. And tonight, after years of heartache, I planned to get my revenge.

But who organised this surprise party? How did they know I was going to be at the hotel?

As I look around the crowd of smiling faces, I see so many people I love but a creeping sense of unease washes over me. I was going to finish off what happened all those years ago… but did someone else have the same idea?

This utterly gripping and unputdownable psychological thriller from bestselling author Mikayla Davids will have you flying through the pages until the deliciously explosive ending! Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware, T. M. Logan and Lisa Jewell.

After reading the series debut as part of my Christmas reading, I could not stop. Mikayla Davids has a knack for writing and it's become obsessive, so much so that I have to see how things would turn out with this third novel. A decade has passed since the Bailey drama has surfaced and so much has changed! Three children are now on the verge of becoming adults, remembering the troubles they had years before. Ophelia and her grandmother, Nadia, are joined by many in their lives to celebrate significant birthdays, but who planned this extravagant event? While past secrets surface, they remain under wraps as everyone hopes to put it behind them. However, someone forgot to tell the surprise guest of honour, as they return to create panic and ensure no one’s spine is free from the odd chill on this summer evening. Vendettas need to be handled and truths are dying to get out. Who is left and how will it all come to pass when everyone returns to the quaint English hotel that started all the horrors a decade before? Mikayla Davids delivers yet another great addition to the series for all to enjoy!

After finding a Christmas novella by Mikayla Davids, I added her to my list of authors worthy of further exploration, which led me to read the holiday-themed series debut and devour the follow-up piece. Now into my fourth publication (third of the series) by the author, I know Davids can write like few others I have encountered. The narrative is edgy from the opening pages, seeking to put confusion in the rear view mirror, but failing when certain things fall into place. Davids creates a stronger foundation by referring to the previous two novels and making sure the attentive reader has all the clues needed to piece this mystery together. There is something about this piece that pulled it all together, yet left lingering distrust for everything that seemed straightforward. The psychological nature of the piece shone through and kept me flipping pages well into the night as I tried to make sense of it all.

Characters emerge and develop over this decade span. Readers who have read the other two novels (and why would you not before grabbing this one?) know the backstories and the delicate interactions between sisters, mother-daughter, and other relationships, all of which are essential to understanding every moving part from this piece. As the story rushes along, there is much left that was presumed solved, only to be opened up anew with characters emerging and flavouring the larger narrative. I liked this aspect, though the “aha!” moment could be a little much at times. Davids crafts her characters so well that I could almost see them as the story progressed, a key to my enjoyment of this series.

Surprises emerge from the outset, much like with the previous novels. There was some added untying and retrying of strings thought put away, which left me wanting to know the full story. I liked how Davids pushed things to the brink and kept me guessing with some twists until the very end, a truly masterful ploy. Ongoing family drama and murderous attempts provide twists like the attentive reader has come to expect from Mikayla Davids. I could not turn a page without finding some surprise left for me and this series has been a great experience to date. Is there more? Time will tell, though I must be patient until all is revealed.

Kudos, Madam Davids, for a gripping series whose future remains a mystery to me!

At worst I was expecting another solid 4* read but this was terrible - the storyline was awful, characters just popped up left right and centre and the ending was just EURGH. I think the original book should have just been a one off or at a push a two part series but these have got progressively worse not better!

More murderous and revenge-filled fun for the Baileys!

If you enjoyed the first 2 books in the series, you'll certainly enjoy this one, as it brings the series to a satisfying close.

Some might feel the series is a little "paint by numbers" in that Ms. Davids uses familar tropes and page-turning techniques, and you might guess a few developements. Some seasoned thriller lovers might gripe a little more than more casual thriller enjoyers like me, true, but there's lots to like here as you sink into all the characters' plans and fears and hopes.

I'd score the series a strong 4 overall.

This book was an amazing thrilling read. Mikayla is absolutely amazing with this book! It kept me so invested from beginning to the very end. I really enjoyed the way Mikayla wrote this thriller. There were many twists and surprises within the book. The Bailey family sure has been through some rough times. I cannot imagine how they have kept it all together after everything that they have been through. I kept closing my kindle screen and reopening it, thinking what have I just read !! This was my first book by this author but it most certainly won’t be my last.

This was a good conclusion, and though the epilogue leaves on a cliff hanger, I think I'm done with this family. The first book was definitely the best with the craziness and twists. Like the second, this one wasn't really thrilling and it felt rushed, but it was fast-paced.

All of the lying and manipulation and revenge seeking made me tired. This was a good story, but I had to step away from the toxic environment. I don’t know if there is a single character that I liked in this series, but that is how they were written and supposed to be. I still kept coming back for the plot lines. There were definitely some good twists in this book, but make sure you read the first two in order to be able to follow along properly!

The Bailey Family takes family drama and turned it up about 100 notches, until there are deadly consequences. That ends up with them telling lies to cover up. So when the truths are laid bare, what happens?

Thank you to Love Books Tours for the copy, all thoughts are my own.

I'm back with ANOTHER thriller book for all you thriller lovers out there!!

This time, Her Daughters Lies by Mikayla David's. Well...well.... well, what a read I have for you here! This is the 3rd book in this series, but you can read this without reading the others like I have, However, I will be going back to read the others!

With thanks to the authors clever writing, we are instantly drawn into this with multiple points of view, short chapters and oh my the drama and secrets from the characters, I ended up flying throught this and before I knew it I had finished it!

This book was a fast-paced, suspense filled storyline, with twists that people may not see coming, not only that the dynamic and personalities of the characters were well thought out and fitting for the storyline!

Again, I don't want to say too much as I will end up putting spoilers in, but if you want a fast-paced, gripping read, then this is the book for you

I've now read quite a few books by this author and have loved all of them so far! - so when I spotted this new release I was really excited to dive right in, knowing it was going to be a great read.

This is also the third book in the Bailey Family series, so a much anticipated read after reading books 1, The Christmas Party and 2, The Family Secret over the last couple of years.

Here we are, back with the Bailey ladies and after the events of the first two books, I'm not sure that I wasn't just waiting for more drama.

As ever, the writing style draws us in immediately and doesn't let us go until the very last page!
It was easy to reconnect with our main characters and I loved the family dynamic and the developing storyline which reveals the secrets and lies bit by bit.

For me, I think it's best to have read the series as a whole as there are mentions of previous events from the other two books and of course, the character development continues throughout the series.
But actually I felt that this would still work ok as a standalone read.

I raced through this one so fast, I just couldn't put it down!
It was exciting and dramatic and I was on the edge of my seat right to the end.

Once again, I can't wait to see what comes next - one of my auto-buy authors for sure!

This is the third book in the Bailey Family series and packs a punch just like the previous two novels; The Christmas Party and The Family Secret. Mikayla is one of my auto read authors, I have now read every book of hers, and they are all fantastically written with gripping plot lines and twists, with characters who are well developed and relatable, and Her Daughters Lies is no exception to this brilliant writing style.

Her Daughters Lies picks up 10 years after the events of book two, and the Bailey Family have found a new normal after the actions of The Family Secret, however in true Bailey fashion, chaos and trauma are not far behind this family, and Her Daughters Lies exposes more secrets and tales of despair. I absolutely love Mikayla’s writing style, I was completely engrossed in this book, with gasp out loud moments, and unexpected twists on each chapter turn. This is a fast paced read with brilliant character development, alternating between various characters perspectives throughout, it is a great novel, and just when you think you have the measure of one of the characters Mikayla flips the script and a darker/softer side to each character is found!

It is pretty tough to write a spoiler free review, especially when the books all have their own intertwining moments, action points and characters, this is a series I would highly recommend, the world building is brilliant, and I am in awe of the authors ability to continuously include different (and the same) characters in different settings that feel completely possible, there are times with thriller novels that plots and action sequences feel unrealistic but this is completely not the case with this series! Plus after those epilogue I am very intrigued to find out what’s next, is there a book four? I’m hoping yes!

I could sing Mikayla’s praise consistently, every book has been a hit, and I’d recommend any and all of them, I cannot wait for her next book (August 2025 if you are reading this far)

Life after Erin, or is she still around? With this book you get a slight glimpse at history repeating itself and how things could have been different if everyone's actions were different. We also get a nice glimpse how the sisters, Leah and Sasha have moved on and improved their lives. A few new faces show up and a few reappear. Not to spoil too much but there is quite a few unexpected twists. Then a pretty satisfying ending. Sad but satisfying. I do think this should be the last book (a good ending) for the Bailey family drama.

Wowza. More plot twists than any book I’ve ever read.

Random characters and events thrown in with no purpose. Semi-crazy change of character, what started out as a great trilogy ended in an overwhelming plot.

There may be a fourth book coming but not for me. Let Nadia get arrested in peace without me.

4.5 stars! Wow, what a twisted family who are full of secrets. This is the third book in the Bailey family series. I haven't read the first two books, and that in no way stopped me from enjoying this story. However, I am sure that if I had read the first two books, my jaw may have dropped further! I am going to go back and read them, but if you don't want spoilers, it would be best to read them in order. I just need to see how we got to this level of crazy!

I loved the cast of characters and multiple POV as it made it difficult to figure out who could be trusted. In this family, it is a difficult thing to figure out as they all seem to be hiding something.

I enjoyed the setting as it was claustrophobic, and the pacing kept me turning the pages. It was a quick read as I just wanted to know what happened next. I guessed one of the twists, but that didn't take away from the ending, which was building throughout the story. I liked the writing style, and the dialogue felt very natural. I also really liked the story and how twisted and bitter some of the characters were. We get to see a little of what motivates them, and it felt nicely worked out.

I want to read the first two books, and I'll definitely look for further books by this author.

With thanks to the author and Love Book Tours for providing a copy of the book. This is my honest review, which I'm leaving voluntarily.

Get ready for a wild ride in this psychological crime thriller, the third installment of The Bailey Family series! Fast forward a few years after book two, and the Baileys are navigating new adventures—think weddings, babies, and blossoming relationships. They gather for a surprise joint birthday bash for one of the grandkids and the beloved matriarch, but hold onto your party hats because things are about to get juicy!

Secrets old and new are bubbling to the surface, and who exactly is the mysterious party planner pulling the strings? True to the author’s signature style, this book is a thrilling, page-turning escapade that I simply couldn’t put down. Just when you think the Baileys might catch a break, there’s a tantalizing hint that more chaos is on the horizon! I absolutely loved every twist and turn of this read,

I was so glad to see Mikayla Davids come out with another book in The Bailey Family series, because I was sad when the first two books ended. I want to send another shout-out to Love Books Tours for introducing me to this new-to-me author last year!

This fast-paced book continues the saga of the Bailey family and the secrets they keep for a double surprise birthday celebration at their chalet in the mountains. Although this is book 3 in the series, the author revisits enough of the story that you can read it as a standalone. However, this book seemed more like a cozy mystery, while still having all the suspense, twists, and reveals as much as the first two books. I was happy to see some loose ends tied up, and I wouldn't be mad if there was a fourth book in the works!

Thanks to Love Books Tour and the author for an advance reader's copy.

Her Daughter’s Lies by Mikayla Davids.
The Bailey Family book 3.
I did like the cover of this book. I didn't realise it was book 3 in a series. I did get into it straight away. I was curious. Gripping and twisty. I had to find out what happened. There were so many suspects. I had no clue who it was. Twisty and gripping. Lots of red herrings. My jaw was on the floor. I was very surprised. I am looking forward to the next book. Will definitely recommend

I had the pleasure of reading The Couple on Holiday and loved it. So I couldn't wait to read Her Daughter's Lies. This is a fast-paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you hooked from the very first page.

This is the third book in the Bailey Family series, but you can definitely read this book as a stand-alone.

I really enjoyed how the story unfolds and how far as a mother you'd go to protect your family. I loved the short but strong chapters and how the characters' stories are woven in perfectly. The Bailey family ladies are strong and protective. The ending was just perfect. I can not wait for the next instalment in this series.

So another Mikayla Davids book and a return to the Bailey family. What more could we want?

This is explosive and completely brilliant! I honestly don’t know how any written review will do this justice. Everything about this book has been superb.

I am a huge fan of the Bailey family. I love how dysfunctional and realistic they are. The tension between members, the family falling outs and overall drama, is an element that most of us can relate to.

I was so excited when this book popped up. I knew I needed to delve in ASAP. I can honestly say that I haven’t been disappointed. Davids is back and reminding us all why these books need to be read.

This is a book that is gripping, addictive and filled with tension. I absolutely love the secrets that unfold. We have betrayal and lies to uncover, which all lead to a jaw dropping conclusion. I need more!! I am definitely not ready to say goodbye to the Baileys just yet.

This is wonderful. I have devoured this in just one sitting without regrets. This is a book, I will be recommending to anyone and everyone who will listen. Davids is a must read author for me and I have adored this book from the beginning.

This is a book that has it all. A brilliant pace, well written narrative, multiple perspectives and tension which keeps you turning page after book age. This is a book worthy of all the praise.

I liked this book!

The story follows the women of the Bailey family- Nadia, the grandmother and her 3 daughters; Sasha- the eldest, Erin- the middle and Leah- the youngest. These women all have things to hide, and when there are bodies found, people missing and secrets threaten to expose- will you protect your family?

The book has short punchy chapters, all of which end at a revelation of something that happened. This book is a standalone but the events described briefly are covered in detail as the plot focus of the previous 2 novels. The storyline was decent and executed well. I loved how twisted every character was- their choices seeming natural and yet distinct as per their personalities.

I just feel that overall writing could have been better to take this book to the 5 star mark. Otherwise this is a great thriller!

great series

Wow yet another good book in the series can’t wait to next year for next one .
Have loved this series about the Bailey family . This authors books are so easy to read and full of twists and surprises .
The Bailey family has been through a lot over the years : a car accident involving one of the daughters being hurt , one of the daughters husbands being thrown over the balcony at a party , one of the daughters going missing on a skiing holiday and presumed dead and the murder of someone who got to close to the family . These are just some of the tradagies this family has been through . I would definately recommend these books and reading in order as well . As with the others I didn’t want to put this one down

From the beginning I was hooked, with plenty of surprises along the way. I couldn't put it down until the end, which was completely unexpected. Overall a highly enjoyable read.
