The fifth installment of The Webs Of A decadent, dark story about fate. The Webs of Fate series is an addicting forbidden love, dark romantic fantasy with witty banter, heart-stopping action, and blistering hot romance set in a vibrant modern-day world full of magic where myth and history blur together in a mockery of truth.
Callahan
Sterling mated my mate.
I almost want to tear his throat out, but then I'd be like Pierre, a man I loathe. The letter from Pierre was passed to me while I was delirious, dragged through a broken window to be freed from Lucius. The contents are as irksome as they are surprising. He's offering me a chance to remake the world, to shape the future of the Seraphinus, but first, I'll have to convince the rest of the Light Seraphinus to accept me as their new Light Queen. It's a challenge, but Sterling might not be the problem I thought. He might be exactly what I need.
Natalia
Cal and Sterling mated me.
Mallafic says love is impossible, but I know my heart and can feel the love coursing through me every time Cal or Sterling touches me. It's not the mating bond, it's them. Crowns and gods and looming war seem insignificant in the face of the truth I can't--that I won't admit to myself. I'd lose Cal for good.
I try to ignore it, try to protect lives and help my mates, even facing a trial in the maze and returning to Izul and a sea of enemies that are waiting to stab us in the back, but the blade embedded in me comes from the last person I ever expected. In a moment, I lose more than I ever thought possible.
Trigger
This book is intended for mature audiences. This series will contain explicit content and dark elements that may be triggering to some. It will include a magical race of beings known as the Seraphinus that has two factions with extreme prejudice against each other.

*There will be spice. This series contains an alpha shadow-daddy with a dominant personality and parasitic magic that can be used for binding/restraining.
Book 5 of this series continues the twisty, fate-ridden saga of Callahan, and Natalia, and now Sterling as their bond deepens and the stakes rise. Cal grapples with the fallout of being offered a chance to reshape the future, if he can convince the Light to accept him as their new queen. Natalia, caught between crowns, gods, and the rapidly darkening horizon of war, is pushed through trials and impossible choices as she confronts both her heart and the roles being forced upon her. With enemies circling, loyalties fracturing, and truth bending at every turn, this installment pushes the trio toward consequences none of them can outrun.
What truly stands out in this entry is how many moving pieces finally begin to converge. Wallingsford clearly has a long game in mind, and the second half of the book pays off that groundwork with twist after twist, culminating in an absolute gut-punch of an ending. The emotional payoff is strong, bolstered by the complexity of the characters and the deeply layered dynamic between Callahan, Natalia, and Sterling. Their growth, both individually and as a triad, feels thoughtful and earned, and the series continues to balance dark fantasy elements with intimate character work.
If the pacing wobbles in the first half, something more noticeable in a 600+ page novel, it ultimately serves to lay the foundation for the revelations and momentum to come. By the time the final chapters hit, everything snaps sharply into focus, setting the stage for an explosive continuation. A strong and satisfying installment with plenty for series fans to devour. Themes and content skew mature throughout, so readers would do well to check warnings before diving in, but the emotional depth and narrative ambition shine. Many thanks to the author for this ARC. This is my honest review.
Slowest book of the series so far, and I hate to be critical because I know this is building up to the finale - which I am so excited for. The three way relationship..... it seemed a little forced, like it was tossed in there just to keep things spicy. I don't feel like we ever really got Natalia's perspective on the whole thing. It seemed initiated by the boys and at first I was questioning Natalia's consent. The weird fight that Cal walked in on felt like an incomplete thought, I would have loved to get into that conflict a little more. Felt like some depth was missing there. I am also getting a little tired of Natalia's inability to verbalize her feelings. I need some character development. She has been the same old same old, always relying on the hot, tough men to make decisions and give her direction. She's a little bit of a pick-me and one of the least interesting characters. On another hand, Ashley and Tony are surprising me with their development. Ashley's scene in the maze was a highlight of the book for me. She's one of my favorite characters. Tony's development from bad guy to calm, empathetic, in-touch-with-his-fatum big softie has been unexpected and I enjoy when he comes into the scene. (I didn't see Ashley's name misspelled at all this book LFG) Again, there was plenty of build up happening, and also tons of new characters. I found it challenging to keep up with at times, and found myself back tracking and re-reading sections searching for context. I think there are still some grammatical errors that add complexity to comprehension. I found many dialog heavy sections to be repetitive as well. While book 5 felt slow, forced, and confusing, I have genuinely enjoyed following along this journey and I am so ready for book 6!
If you have friends reading this series by CJ Wallingford, please check in with them! I am not ok! That ending! We are in a time of mourning and our trio is trying to figure out how to defeat the ancients. They are also trying to figure out how to unify the Light and the Dark, while also figuring out their own situation. The plot keeps thickening, and I keep feeling all of the emotions! How dare you mess with my feelings, CJ. Very curious how this series ends when the final book comes out in December! This is out on KU and available to buy on Amazon.
This series has been a twisty, wild ride and this book was no exception. Natalia, Cal and Sterling are now a mated throuple. This book starts off dealing with the repercussions from that and then continues on with the overlying plot of gods running amok, Nessa going rogue and light v dark. The ending to this was wild. I am so excited for the next book to see what happens and how this ends.
Pardon me a moment. I need to find every tissue in my house until I stop crying. Seriously, this is one of those series that breaks your heart over and over, yet it's so good you keep coming back for more.
I’m ugly crying right now!! CJ how could you do this to us?!? I need the next book ASAP! This series has sucked me in and has put me through an emotional roller coaster.
The excitement, danger, and anticipation just continue to ramp up. So much heartbreak and passion - so much to love about this series and these characters.
Just when I think the dust is starting to settle, CJ comes in like a wrecking ball and smashes all my hopes and dreams. But I still said thank you and I'm ready for more again at the end of this book.
This book picks up shortly after the ending of book 4 - Cal is losing his shit that Sterling mated Tal, he is the Light Queen, and Tal is the Dark King, and they have the Ancient's to deal with, and Vanessa and Mallafic are still out and about causing trouble. The Light and the Dark must come together, and I didn't think I would see the day.
While this book had a slower plot line, but there was still a lot that happened. We got to see the Light and Dark work start to work together and unify, and all the challenges that are still to be faced. There are so many challenges left to still overcome and I don't know if I'm ready or not. While it there had been a lot of dark things happening in this book, I loved seeing Cal, Tallie, and Sterling all have some moments to breath together. Even if they don't last long, much to everyone's dismay.
I'm still reeling over the ending of the book and practically threw my kindle through a wall. I wasn't expecting what happened to happen in the least bit, and I'm still mad about it! I'm fully holding out hope (and maybe living in delulu land) that everything somehow works out, because WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
I can't believe this series is almost over!!!! I took my time reading this one because I know it's almost over. It was a little slower than previous books but it still kept my interest the entire time. I had a feeling CJ was going to rip my heart out with this one and she did not disappoint. I finished the book at 11pm and couldn't sleep because my brain just kept reliving those last couple chapters. I'm excited and also sad for the last book. I don't want it to end!
This series has had me hooked from book one, and book five was no exception! Even if I do hate CJ a little bit for all the emotional pain and what she’s doing to my favourite characters 😭 (jokes love her really) I really do need the next book now to help cure this book hangover 🤤 If you haven’t started this series yet, why not? It’s amazing trust me, you will love the emotional rollercoaster these books take you on 🤯
