I Wasn't Billy the Kid

Rate this book
In its mission to preserve and promote the true history of Billy the kid, Billy the Kid’s Historical Coalition proudly presents the unpublished manuscript of renowned historian and author, Donald Cline.
For years, this powerful manuscript was kept from the public – buried by those more concerned with protecting personal agendas than preserving truth. Hidden for selfish gain, Cline’s work was silenced, his research deliberately withheld. Now, after decades in the dark, his unfiltered findings are finally brought to light - just as he intended.
In this groundbreaking work, Cline takes direct aim at the myth of Brushy Bill Roberts. With interviews, private letters, and testimony from Brushy’s own family, Cline dismantles the false claims and exposes the Brushy Bill was not Billy the Kid.
Thorough. Relentless. Uncompromising. Donald Cline leaves no stone unturned – and no legend untouched.
Now available to the public. Just the way Don would’ve wanted it.

The White Whale of Brushy Bill debunks, finally released!

A big thanks to the Billy the Kid's Historical Coalition for helping get Donald Cline's research finally published and available to everyone. This one was often seen in citations or references in other books regarding Billy's most famous claimant. For a while I figured the most I would ever see was what was published in Gale Cooper's books. When I heard that it was finally getting released I was beyond excited. The book comes in both Paperback and Hardcover (Limited Edition) versions. I ended up with the Hardcover edition that definitely feels inspired by Clines other book covers. The book clocks in at 143 pages, and includes sources and some pictures including Robert's original headstone. I think the dedication itself is also very poignant as it is dedicated to the Roberts family, who have suffered being told they were wrong since the original claim in the 50's. The book also includes an introduction by James Townsend, who also runs the Chasing Billy podcast. I definitely recommend this one, especially if you want to see an early book diving into the attempt to separate Brushy mythology from Billy History.

As stated we all owe a debt of gratitude to The Billy The Kid Historical Coalition for bringing us this book that was otherwise unattainable. Everything you need to know about Oliver P Pleasant aka Brushy Bill Roberts is right here. Not myth, not opinion but rather indisputable facts with plenty of footnotes to back every sentence, Don Cline brought the receipts. You would hope that this work would finally put the ridiculous tale of Billy The Kid rides again, in the form of Brushy Bill Roberts to rest once and for all, unfortunately I’m certain the debate will linger on by those lead by modern day snake oil salesman who are happy to tarnish history for a tiny bit of fame and a few bucks in their pocket.
