Decent read

It’s a classic friends to lovers trope. It’s cute, relatively lighthearted and pretty easy to read. The story unfolds nicely and even though there aren’t any new plot points, it’s still a cute read.

Bridget Harrington was returning home to Vermont to help further her event planning business. It was a niche that seemed to have a gap that she knew she could fill and service with a much better success rate, more to offer, and a higher rate of reliability than the customers were used to being served now. But here’s the thing: she and her hometown were never on the best of terms. She came from old money. Therefore, she socialized in narrow-minded circles, ones she never fit into. Her biggest obstacle was her curvy frame. It stood out among the board-like waifs that went to her school and ran in her circles.

No matter what she wore, her broad hips, thick thighs, and full arms refused to be hidden. She learned to accept them. She chose clothes that made her feel strong and beautiful, no matter what anyone else thought. She was more than their judgments, more than the whispers of the high school halls. She was not the girl they used to mock anymore. Maplewood. Her hometown. Her past. Her future. Now, she’s back to take full control of her event planning business. To prove, once and for all, that she belonged. Juliet Dalton, her best friend since childhood, was there to greet her.

They were both so happy to see one another. Her parents were overjoyed, and her mom may have gone overboard. “She even told Mrs. Langford at the bakery. That means it’s official—the whole town knows you’re back. We’re throwing you a welcome home party tonight! Just a small gathering—nothing overwhelming.” My stomach twists. “You planned this without asking me?” Bridget chewed her lip, glancing at Juliet, who watched her with an amused expression. “You know how it is,” she says. "If you refuse, it’ll be the talk of the town. Might as well get it over with."

“Fine,” I sigh. “Let’s get it over with.” Then she hears it. “Looks like she hasn’t changed much.” The words land like a slap, sharp and familiar. Her breath catches, just for a second—but Bridget doesn't flinch. Not this time. Deep. Smug.
Brandon Dalton, her best friend’s younger brother—not the loving or respectful kind of stepbrother. He leans against the kitchen counter, drinks in hand, smirking like he’s still the king of Maplewood. He doesn’t like being ignored. He raises his voice. “She said she’d move to the big city and make something of herself. Guess some things are harder to change than others.”

"Guess New York doesn’t work miracles after all." The sting is immediate, sharp to her chest. She forces her expression to stay neutral. It's not New York, where she could disappear into a sea of strangers. This is a home that still holds the same cruel memories". No wonder she’s still single. She scares off anyone trying to get close." Before she can react, Juliet steps in. That's it, Brandon? Still the high school bully? “Oh, relax, Jules. We’re just having fun.” “Making jokes at someone else’s expense? What does that say about you?” Brandon scoffs, yet a flicker of distress crosses his face.

“Bridget’s done more with her life than you ever will,” Juliet continues. “And the fact that you’re still using your same high school joking around, as you call it, proves you haven’t grown up at all.” Brandon only shrugs. “Whatever. Some people can’t take ribbing.” Juliet scoffs. “Some people mistake cruelty for humor.” The sting in Bridget’s chest hadn’t faded. The same cruel whispers that haunted her teenage years now chase her into adulthood. She now slipped outside. She grips the railing as she fights the urge to let the tears win. She can’t allow them the power.

Not again. She thought she had buried this part of herself, but Maplewood had dug it all back up. Bridget hadn't come back to be that girl again. The one they used to push around. She came back to take her place, to build her future. They can laugh, mock, and whisper all they want. This time, she won’t let them win. Then he arrives with a proposal that turns both their worlds upside down. Her knee-jerk reaction was to say no, but he sincerely laid out the reasons why it could be beneficial for both of them. You see. He is Wes Dalton, Juliet’s older brother and her protector on many occasions growing up.

Nonetheless, he heard from Juliet that Bridget was being pressured by her mother and grandmother to marry and marry to the standard of their choosing. You see, Wes was coming home to get out of the light of the scandal from punching a teammate who said unkind words to a female. They thought a relationship, more like marriage, would be the answer to all of his bad press problems. So on his first chance, he talks to her about the contractual marriage, and she says no! By the following Sunday after her family's high-pressure dinner, she said, Yes! Life was about to get interesting.

This was such a funny, loving, and serious book all rolled into one. But this had me laughing through the majority of the book. Seeing their love bloom was such a joy, and that it was clean was even better. Now granted her insecurities were a hurdle that Wes stood right beside her over and over again and said let me help you carry the mental load of all the crap people have thrown at you all your life. Don't get me wrong he got shaken and almost bailed. But see what turns the tide.

Spoiler Alert: There might be some spoilers for the tv show Bones later on in this review. It ended in 2017. If you haven’t watched it by now, you probably won’t. Sorry.

I’m going to be honest with you, dear reader. I am not sure what I just read. It was truly a unique experience for me because I actually really liked Happily Stuck with My Curvy Wife by Natalia Quinn. I found that it was a very sweet story with two lead characters that I very much enjoyed. I liked Bridget’s determination and level-head as well as her softness and flaws. I also enjoyed Wes’ acceptance of his past bad boy ways and his willingness to open up to Bridget.

So, where is my hesitation coming from? I think it stems from the mere fact that this book could have done with some [more] editing. There were instances where the POV was switched (e.g. the character’s POV wasn’t matching how they were talking about the other characters) and some sentences seem to be repeated that I think should have been deleted during editing and were overlooked.

I wish we could have seen more of the couple falling in love. It was like, I believed they were in love, but I didn’t get to see much of how they got there. Are there any Bones fans out there? Anyone remember how we didn’t really get to see a courtship between Booth and Bones and then we’re supposed to believe that they just were…together and she was all of a sudden pregnant? Yeah, it was kinda like that, but without the pregnancy.

So, with all that said - I hesitate in saying whether or not you should check out this story. I enjoyed enough to give it 3 stars because I loved the vibe between our hero and heroine and genuinely think that with more editing, this book could be even more beautiful. Take that as you will!

This book had so much potential — a curvy FMC, a hunky hockey player, and a marriage of convenience setup that sounded right up my alley. I really wanted to love it.

Unfortunately, a few things kept me from fully connecting with the story. Early on, the FMC is shown with some exaggerated eating habits that felt a bit stereotypical for a “curvy” character. Later, the MMC invites her to start working out with him, and that leads to a big transformation for her — both physically and in how the story views her. It gave the impression that she needed to change to be seen as her best self, which felt disappointing given the premise.

I also struggled a bit with the editing. There were repeated sentences, misplaced quotes, and continuity slips that made it hard to stay immersed at times. With another careful edit, I think this story could shine much more brightly.

I truly loved the idea behind Happily Stuck with My Curvy Wife — there’s a sweet romance at its core and so much potential for heart and humor. I just wish the execution and representation had lived up to that promise.

One year. One deal. One fake marriage.
It was intense and eventful novel. Maybe sometimes too eventful. A lot of misunderstandings, mistakes and missteps.
I loved story-line and characters - Wes and Bridget and fight for their life choices. Everything they need to face makes them questioning their decisions again and again. ANd it comes not only from town folks, but from families and friends. ANd they can overcome only together.
What started as a fake turned out to more - love and support.
It was quite engaging read, yet writing style was uneven.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story was a quick and cute read. I loved the dynamic between our two MCs and how they grew into more. I always love stories that the romance evolves from friendship and this story does just that!

Bridget and Wes were a complicated couple that had depth and hints of sweetness. I was annoyed with her when he did some things and I found him absolutely adorable. She was a really relatable character, the author was spot on with the internal dialogue. I really liked watching them learn more about each other and the way they had each other’s backs when people were not acting as they should. A passionate clean romance I will enjoy again.

she ends up losing a ton of weight. poor editing, and no real clue of the timeliness.

add in the epilogue where her business rival turns into a trusted assistant? what a load of bull.

As a fat woman, the trope of she's fat because she eats a ton of Chinese food and eats a ton of cookies at midnight got old quick.

The book has romance, challenges, second chances, difficult and pushy family members. I liked Bridget and Wes and how they supported each other when almost everyone turned against them. I enjoyed reading how their enemies finally got what they deserved.

This was so poorly written I stopped reading it at 25% mark. The conversation is unnatural and stilted. The book makes weird jumps and it's like the person writing it forgot what was written earlier.
