This book was excellent. Great description of hormones and what is happening as we age. Loved the refocus on the positive aspects of aging, unlike our current culture. Empowering!

Good resources despite the "drop your filter" message

I will start by saying that I don't necessarily agree with all of the advice that Mindy proposes here. I think that while you can be authentic, there are also things that need to be kept such as kindness in our words and actions. There's a difference between being kind and being people-pleasing, and I don't think that was addressed in this book. I also don't feel that everything that "doesn't fit you anymore" should just be tossed aside - most notably marriages. I think that, assuming a marriage is founded on mutual understanding and support, while it might be difficult for a husband to understand such a drastic transformation in his wife it is a relationship that would hopefully walk alongside each other through the transformation and come out the other side even stronger. Mindy herself is an attestation that this is possible as her own marriage clearly survived, even if it was bumpy and difficult at times. My biggest concern with this book is the constant message of "be who you want to be and don't care what anyone thinks of what you have to say anymore." Which circles back to the need for balancing truth in kindness that I was speaking of before.
Having said all that, there are a lot of really great resources and ideas in this book that help prepare women who are entering menopause and also those in the middle of it currently. I'm glad more people are having these discussions and talking about the physiological and mental and emotional changes that a woman goes through during perimenopause and menopause. I think that this is a useful tool in the toolbox alongside other resources that are becoming widely available these days as well.

As a 62-year old woman, I am grateful to have found Dr. Mindy Pelz. Her content in all her books, podcasts, YouTube content is relevant for all women whether she is in her reproductive years, peri-menopausal, menopausal, and post-menopausal stage of life. I wish I had known even a portion of what Dr. Mindy shares when I was younger. It would have saved me a lot of difficult times through my life-changing journey.

While certain beliefs of mine do not align with some of what Dr. Mindy shares in Age Like A Girl, I found great information in this book. I especially appreciated Part 2 where she provides a lifestyle toolbox for women in menopause and entering post-menopause. For this wealth of information alone, I highly recommend this book!

In this book, you will learn what happens to a woman’s body and brain when we go through the change of life. And guess what? It’s a pretty cool outcome. If you need help with going through menopause, read this book. You can thank me later!

Another excellent read from this amazing woman. Not your typical "menopause" book, she didn't focus on HRT or rage and fume about the mistreatment of women by the medical community. The implication was there, but subtle. I much prefer the books that write about the solutions more than the problems. If you are looking for a more non-traditional way to approach perimenopause and menopause than Dr Mindy Pelz would be a great place to start. I have thoroughly enjoyed all her books and gleaned useful information from all of them.

This book was co-written by AI, I couldn't finish it once I started seeing the markers for it. If you can't put in the effort to write it, I won't put it in the effort to read it.

Which is a shame, because this book has a positive message that I would like to internalize as I begin my perimenopause journey.

I was expecting more tips and insight but was more “new aft” in the content so hard to want to keep reading. Best thing in the book was the exercise plans in the appendix
