Maria thought stowing away on a ship to follow the man she loves was a great idea - but sleeping in the cargo hold and fighting rats for food isn't at all what she bargained for, and that's before she reaches her destination: the desolate colonial outpost of Christmas Island. Now the man who was once her world won't even look at her. Perhaps she'd be better off swimming hundreds of miles home. It's time to lay the ghosts of their past to rest...or are some ghosts not dead at all?
USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.
In "Ocean's Triumph", Maria's journey continues as she sets forth to follow the man she loves.
Ridden with guilt, the man himself can't even acknowledge that the beautiful woman that keeps appearing before him is real; not a ghost, not a figment of his imagination brought forth by his grief.
The question remains though. Will Maria get her man?
In this book, Carlton does a wonderful job at really tying both this prequel series and the initial one (Ocean's Gift) together. From the dragon tales, to Giuseppe, followed by William, and then Sirena's Joe from the "Ocean's Gift" series, you don't want to miss this one! With her research and way with words, it's safe to say that Ms. Carlton has brought characters to life that will definitely amuse you, rile those emotions and keep you riveted as you turn to the next page. What could be next? I can only wonder seeing as this time, there is no other book for me to jump to in this wonderful series but I can definitely state that I'll be waiting on bated breath for what comes next.
I enjoy Maria's story, but not the "romance" between her and William, since they really don't have a relationship involving mutual understanding or real respect for each other. What they have is a mutual sexual infatuation, but they don't even share each other's values about that!
With Tony in book 2 Maria had friendship, mutual respect, and a strong working relationship, with a stated but not pushy desire on his part to take things further, as and when she would want to do that, in a community she understands and has her own place in. I doubt the series will go that way, but in many ways I'd like to see her spend her infatuation and then decide to be with Tony, if with any human. If she is going to be with William, he needs to prove himself suitable, but she also needs to show herself suitable for him.

Maria is off on her journey this time it's not as pleasant. Fighting off rats, enduring rough seas, and the man she loves has been positively rude Ignoring her. But nothing will stop her from getting her hear back or sharing it forever with William.
This book we get a view of her in her natural habitat..the ocean. While swimming through caves there is a discovery of dragons that just might change Maria forever. Can't wait for more.
I am really enjoying this series and have just bought the rest of them.
I can't imagine how Maria is going to solve the problem of her two existences and expect there will be lots of interesting situations before the end of book six
i liked the story enough. it was intriguing and all. I love the transformations from human to mermaid. I am sure it is good as a stand a lone as well as in the series. Looking forward to the next book.Demelza Carlton, writes good stories, i started out with one free book and from there, i was hook.
The final book of the Turbulence and Triumph Series finds us with Maria, a mermaid in human form, on a ship bound for Christmas Island. She desperately hopes to be reunited with her long lost love, William McGregor. William was her protector and first real love after losing another. He looked after Maria when others would have sought to do her harm. They were brutally parted and Maria spent time learning to be human in a fishing village. She ended up meeting William there by chance, but he didn't seem to recognize her so she took matters into her own hands. After enduring a tumultuous journey as a stowaway on a ship, Maria discovers that her love believes her dead, drowned in a shipwreck that nearly took his own life. Not only that, William believes that she is a ghost! Can his daily trips to a cave by the sea let Maria convince William that she is very much alive?
Miss Carlton paints a vivid picture of ocean and settlement life. The characters are described in such a way that you can actually see and hear them as if they were right before your eyes. Although this is the concluding book to a series, it does not disappoint. The story flows well, taking us from the ship to the cave. You can really feel WIlliam's torment over his lost love and the build up leaves the reader aching to know if they are finally reunited in the end to live happily ever after. A wonderful, light read that is sure to take you away.

Maria’s quest is still not over and is only set to get harder as she pursues William. She is heartbroken when he won’t even acknowledge her and the reader feels her pain and confusion at his cruel behaviour. The author skilfully moulds Will’s character into something different, so that we are fooled into wondering why Maria would persist with him. In later novels there were references to Maria’s time as a cave dragon and it rounded the whole series off for me to be able to go back and understand what that meant. As well as being a fantastically detailed and well-researched series, this is a beautiful illustration of the old Australia and a credit to the country’s chequered history which is pulled out for scrutiny. It is also a love story at heart and one which will capture anyone with a soft spot for romance and an interest in the unusual. It’s not a prissy mermaid series full of necklace making and fish kissing - if there were mermaids, this is how I imagine they would be, part dolphin, part piranha.
Reading the third novella in the Turbulence and Triumph Series by Demelza Carlton was a very enjoyable read and once again, Ms Carlton has created an entertaining storyline which kept me engrossed from beginning to end. In Ocean's Triumph, we follow Maria's determined endeavors to be reunited with William - who is under the misapprehension that when he sees Maria, he's actually being haunted by her ghost. Maria stows away on the ship taking William to Christmas Island, and it's entertaining to read about her efforts at staying hidden on the ship during the voyage and her frustrations as she struggles with William's disbelieving reactions to her appearances. My only complaint with this third instalment of Ms Carlton's series was the abrupt ending - I felt a little disappointed with the ending and would have liked to see a little bit more shared about William and Maria beginning their lives together. This wasn't enough to reduce my overall opinion of the story however and I would highly recommend this series to other readers.
Ocean's Triumph is the continuation of Maria's journey. She stows away on a ship to be with William, the love of her life. The only problem is that William thinks she died years before and he should have been the one to save her. He suffers from guilt, so when Maria appears before him, he continually thinks he's seeing a ghost.
The third book in the series is an enjoyable ride. After reading Ocean Justice, I couldn't wait to see if the exquisite relationship between Maria and William would continue. The unique story kept me turning the pages to see how it would end!
I read the whole book in one sitting before I realized how far time had slipped away. I love Maria's logic, it makes me chuckle to "see" her respond to the societal rules that seem ridiculous to her. I love her strength and unabashed "demands". My favorite one was her insistence that Johnson not put up coolies in her because her and her husband were going to have a noisy reunion night. His embarrassment wafted from the page.
Book 3 in the series finds Maria on Christmas Island after her newest stowaway incident. She discovers information on who her father is and finds that William believes she is a ghost haunting him. The two finally rekindle their love. She reconnects with her ocean side and we learn her real name. This is a great series.

I give this five stars, as I enjoyed the continuing saga about Maria very much! I look forward to more stories from this author about the sirens/mermaids and the wonderful world the author has created for them to be in!
This is a very interesting and vivid story. I enjoy the 2 main characters and in the second book really adored Marias Aunt. Really do not like Marias mother, or her destructive aditude.
