This is a book full of stories dealing with nosy people. Expectedly, there were lots of stories involving investigators— private or police. But there were also amateurs. They were neighbours, helping hands, and others. But all of them were determined to unearth truth. Their adventures also came in various shapes and sizes. Some were gritty noir. A few were very boring semi-supernatural tales. But most were cozy mysteries full of warmth and charm. I enjoyed the book considerably. It also helped me in learning about several new authors. Highly recommended.
I'd had the idea for The Home With the Hole for a while. It came about as a friend of mine was needing to find somewhere to live. She didn't have much money, buying a flat looked out of her price range and renting is expensive plus there are so many people chasing the same accommodation. So we thought - what about a mobile home? She just about scraped in the age limit for most of the local parks (one or two she was too young). Then came that interesting process of sorting through house particulars...and we came across one with an odd shaped hole in the bedroom, and we thought - whatever could have made that? We had a fun afternoon making up all sorts of silly suggestions, however I thought, there has to be a story in there somewhere! When this anthology was announced it seemed a perfect fit. I got my writers head on and settled down to business.
She's now settled in her park home. Oddly enough, one of her neighbours has an attic in her home and was surprised to discover my friend did not. Possibly there's a sequel there - The Home With the Attic...
The wonderful thing about these types of anthologies is all the different takes various writers have on the subject. With basically just the title to play with there are some real crackers in this collection, but I'm saying no more for fear of spoilers (or favouritism).
