Life hasn't been easy for Alee. Having almost died as a young child and then losing both of her parents shortly after her junior year of high school, all she wanted was a normal senior year. Little did she know that with the development of her powers, Atlanta's founding members had taken notice of her and were watching her closely. And to top things off, an all out war between the lycanthropes and the members of The Underground erupted at the annual Founders' Celebration, leaving Alee caught in the middle.
Dying in her father's arms only to awaken in a pool of blood, surrounded by the mutilated corpses of those she loved most, who could blame Alee for what she did next? Wouldn't you seek REVENGE?
Nina has always been creative, be it art, theatre, film – anything but singing – you don’t want to hear that! She earned her bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Military Science from Eastern Michigan University where she spent most of her time either on stage, rappelling down buildings, or working one of three jobs. After college she moved to Los Angeles, like so many other actors, in pursuit of her dreams. In 2008, after some major life changes, Nina self-published her first book PRIVATE WORDS UNSPOKEN, a compilation of poetry. Since then, her dreams have gotten bigger and she likes to think her storytelling ability has gotten better. She has done everything from secretarial work to business development to being the Director of a private preschool. She has fired a M16, jumped out of a C130, and given birth – TWICE - but she always returns to her art.
Though she’ll forever be a Michigan girl at heart, she now lives in the South with her husband and two beautiful children. If she’s not working on her latest story, you can find her lounging with a good book, playing with her kids, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to Starbucks coffee.
* I receive "ARC" by author for my honest opinion.*
After reading the first two books in this series, I was delighted to read the conclusion. I had all these ideas in my head as to where this author would take, but to my astonishment, she took it somewhere else. I was just amazed. This book is the best book in this series.
This is the third and final book in the Blood Angel series. Though, I'm sadden, that the series has ended, the author has done an outstanding job of surprising me with it's ending.
The pace of this story is fast and steady throughout this story. Many twists and turns that I didn't see coming kept my curiosity piqued and when truths and secrets were revealed I can honestly say I didn't see them coming. That is why I found this a perfect story for me.
The characters from each book continued to grow as the story enfolded, and this story was no exception. I took a message from this story...In society, as a whole, we've grown to like "routine" versus "change". Change can be perceived as good or bad, depending on how it's presented and efforts to make it easier to introduced, as well as, what it means for the people. At the conclusion, "Unity" is the key to make changes possible for all those involved.
This author continued her "easy to read" talent, which IMO, grabs the reader's attention. It's definitely a roller coaster ride when truths and secrets are revealed.
This story contains many facets that a lot of readers will enjoy: romance, murder, intrigue, suspense, forgiveness, loyalty and loads of action. These components are quite realistic throughout this story and helps define the characters and their roles, to which they played amazingly, thus making this the best book in the series.
The conclusion has started where the second book "Beginnings" ended so it want leave you missing anything.
I would recommend to readers to read the first book, "Awaken", then progress to the other books in series. This way you will get to know characters in this story and follow them throughout the series. Questions you develop throughout the story will be answered to reader's satisfaction.
I just hope the author will take into consideration to continue another trilogy/series with characters from this series. (Hint to author: Phoebe needs her own).
My rating is 5 stars...
Personal Message to author: You've outdone yourself with this story. Simply amazing...Can't wait to read future stories....Best Wishes.....
In Book 3 of the Blood Angel series, Alee returns, much to the reader’s surprise. In Revenge, the familiar characters all are driven by the imperative of the book’s title. After the disaster that ended Book 2, Alee finds herself alone. And alone, she makes it through her first days as a fully turned newborn vampire only because of the depth and ferocity of her need to punish Damian for murdering Kyle—to punish all the shape shifters for the pain they have caused. When she soon learns of the enormity of the additional losses in her own family, to say nothing of those in the small community of Atlanta, Michigan, this new level of need for revenge sustains her and drives her to create a plan to satisfy it.
Alee’s mother, father, cousin Phoebe, grandmother Elizabeth, and grandfather William are also focused on avenging the deaths of so many. William, believed by all to be merely mortal, reveals his special powers in order to discover information that provides the family with vital information about who was responsible for the Halloween massacre.
Everything is on a disastrous path when the direction of events is turned by Alee’s mother’s confession to her husband, Eric, that she had in fact seen the person who attacked her on that long-ago night—the attack that caused her to lapse into the coma that had lasted for so many years. Blinded with rage, and throwing caution to the wind, Eric goes straight to the villain, to finally avenge his wife’s near-murder.
The only person not focused on revenge, it seems, is Jathan. He pays Damian a short visit, and explains key information to him. He also gives Alee the advice she needs to begin to set things right. As events unfold, you will wonder how the mounting problems will ever be solved. You will share Alee’s grief for loss of Kyle and then for the confirmation of the loss of her family members. You will follow Jathan’s attempts to mend fences, and share Alee’s amazement when he reveals his true self, and his true purpose, with heartbreaking honesty. In the surprising resolution, there is as much forgiveness as revenge, and the revenge is exacted upon the true villains. The rest is history, in a good way, for the many and varied residents of the tiny town of Atlanta, Michigan.
This book was given to me as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This third (final?) installment of the Blood Angel series is once again looking at the transformation of Alee (Aleerah), the only living dhampir. It continues after her transition back into high school, learning the ropes of a vampire, the nature of being a witch, the betrayal of the Underground and the love dichotomy she finds herself in.
The critical points
Writing: Nina's writing has progressively improved throughout the series and by this point, she has started to master the craft. Weaving in the imagery and emotions of her characters. There were some misspellings here and there, giving the teeny ding on the writing alone.
Story: This story starts off on the fast track and very rarely slows down. The build up over the series has led to this moment of turmoil, transformation and transcendence. Nina's work on the first two novels set the stage for this wonderful and fast-paced supernatural showdown. There were a few parts in the end that threw me. *SPOILER* When the Founders battle started happening, I felt there was little build up to making them the antagonist, so it felt a tad closed off and ended abruptly. That took a bit of the story down, but in all, it was a wonderful ride seeing the characters grow aside the writer herself.
Characters: Each character has grown into their element from the first novel to this last one. Alee has grown into the confident yet hesitant teen, pairing along with her new vampire feelings she tries to maintain. The affections of Jathan to Damian to Kyle keeps the temperature always on high.
Appearance: I have loved Nina's book covers on all her books. This last one just didn't stay par with the others. It's hard to match perfection three times in a row. I think if there was something more in the eyes portraying revenge as the title, I'd probably have given it a straight five.
