The "True Dragon King Festival" began when the Fire Dragon Ignia activated his dragon magic to turn this world into a dragon world. This caused the Five Divine Dragons to become violent, and an abnormal situation occurred in which humans were turned into dragons all over the continent. Meanwhile, the black wizard Faris is secretly working to destroy both dragons and humans. As the two threats approach, Fairy Tail scatters to various places to destroy the giant magic crystal, but the dark guild "Fire & Flame" and the "Six Books of Evil Prayers" stand in their way.

About the author

Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.

He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.

Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.

Honestly, I’m so torn with the direction this manga is taking. In this volume, there are excellent chapters that use nostalgia to tug on the reader’s heartstrings and that are proof of how much Mashima loves this story and of all of its characters. The return of Oracion Seis was something I truly didn't expect but that was placed perfectly, and it was so satisfying to see them fight against their evil counterparts. It truly bring us back to the og Fairy Tail days, and I loved it.

On the other hand every other chapter is… so bland. We have multiple fights ongoing but none of them are truly interesting, even the ones that I was really hyped about (like Wed against Ezra). As always, everything is easy and Natsu defeats the bad guys without any real issue. The plot isn’t progressing. Random new characters appear and out of nowhere we learn their power is needed to defeat Ignia. It feels like Mashima doesn’t even care anymore about the actual plot, and I wish we’d see the passion and the fuel he has when he writes elements of the original manga in.

On a side note, Lucy is given a power that can make her one of the most powerful sorcerers in the whole manga. So I pray that this power is actually being used soon, and that everyone finally recognize just how powerful and badass she is.
