Romance writer. Avid reader. Former political junkie. Proud mom of two young tykes and a pup named Buckets. Living out my HEA in beautiful coastal Rhode Island.
Life’s too short to take yourself too seriously. I write the kind of romances I like to read, sassy, fun and sweet, with Heroes who know what they want, and Heroines who aren’t afraid to be themselves.
This was a sweet love story between 2 loveable in their own way characters.
Charlotte Crowley has lost her job, is about to lose her apartment and is about to be maid of honor for her best friend. Everything is not rosy but a little secret opportunity to marry Congressman Jack Coburn. Simple marry him, get him through the election, pretend to be the perfect couple... Simple right?
Jack Coburn is in the running for the Senate, but his reputation as a playboy is hurting his chances, so Charlotte and her sister hatch the plan for an arranged marriage for Jack and Charlotte is the perfect candidate. With a crap load of baggage Jack doesn't want love, doesn't want kids so this arrangement is perfect for him... until he falls in love and puts the whole arrangement in jeopardy.
After a quick dating span Charlotte and Jack plan a super quick wedding, and a honeymoon together. Everything is going fine, they enjoy each others company and have even gone as far as sleeping together. This just complicates things more when Jack does such romantic things for Charlotte, and she cannot help but have feelings for Jack and knowing he also feels something more for Charlotte she drops the L bomb.
After returning from their week away, they fall back into the runs of meetings, nights out and Jack's rigorous schedule the balance between Mr and Mrs Coburn is starting to strain. Charlotte sees it and Jack knows it. He will soon have to tell Charlotte about his family and a huge secret he is hiding.
Once Charlotte finds out what Jack is hiding, she follows him and demands an explanation, bur his secret is not what Charlotte thought. She must decide if she can forgive and move on with Jack in a real life relationship. Real love, Real marriage, no more lies.
The shoe is put on the other foot when Charlotte has her own secret that she hasn't told Jack, and with the way she demanded the truth can he forgive her and take on the election race?
This story had just the right amount sweetness and hotness with a little bit of drama. Loved it!!!
Jack is a Congressman who is looking for a temporary bride. His character and family may have been modelled on JFK. And for this reason I feel the book could have been something more than just romance, maybe more drama? Jack Colburn is described as very enigmatic, influential while Charlotte just happens to be with the right people at the right time. The romance blossoms and I like that she isn't clingy or superficial, she does her work well, even though she's hurting. The secret that Jack thinks will destroy them can destroy his family and that drama could have been played up. The books starts off great, with the chemistry between the two leads fantastic. It should have ended with a bang too. But its still a good read.
This book was a very nivce book to read, Jack and Charlotte are a very nice couple I loved how they met and how the start of a relationship started by a contract to be his wife for political purposes, he and Charlotte met at her best friends wedding and they told her about Jack and what he wants. What Jack and Charlotte thought was just a contract changed into something more which was really cute they made each other happy and you can understand why they fell for each other so deeply.
I enjoyed the story. But, I had a hard time with the lack of editing. It was distracting. The words were all spelled correctly and the punctuation was good. However, in way too many spots there were words missing or an extra word snuck in that didn't belong. In a couple places there was a double negative that changed what the character was trying to say. I proofread copy for a living. The fix is simple. Just before publishing, have someone read the book who has never seen it before.
You'd think a billionaire would have it all, but even the richest have their challenges; different challenges, but their lives don't always run smoothly. I'm really enjoying Avery James Scandal Inc series. She has the ability to create three a dimensional characters you can believe in. Charlotte and Jack come to life as they tackle the problem neither of them thought they would have to face.
I would have given this probably 3 1/2 stars except for all of the bedroom scenes. I don't really care to be privy to what goes on in someones bedroom, even if they are married. So I did a lot of page-skipping. I thought the book could have been a bit shorter - it was pretty redundant. But I did like the premise.
This is another once you start it, you can't put it down book. Not everything is as it seems even if you think you have all the facts. This tale of true love is no exception. It's the 3rd in a series of stand alone stories. I read them out of order and they are all wonderful.
I rarely give the "Billionaire" style books a 5 star review - BUT, I LOVED this one. The characters captured me and kept me enthralled. I was waiting to see how the (inevitable) conclusion would be reached...and thoroughly enjoyed the road to get there!!
This was well written, I loved the characters, and enjoyed reading it. I didn't like that Mr. Billionaire was already engaged, but it made way for the story. Hot and sexy, and kept my attention.
Jack needs a wife, not someone to love or cherish, just someone to help his image. The congressman has a playboy image which is going to see him lose his campaign. A temporary bride would help him out no end. Can Jack and Charlotte both make it through this marriage unscathed?
This the third book in the series met expectations. Romance, heartbreak, making up. Something for everyone. I recommend this book for all romance readers.
