Jennifer Foor is an award winning Contemporary Romance Author. She's best known for the Mitchell Family Series, which includes ten books. With over forty published titles, there is a story for every interest. Her books can be found on most platforms and in paperback. She is married with two children and spends most of her time behind a keyboard, creating and writing stories straight from her heart.
I read the first half of this book years ago and it had me intrigued. But apparently not that intrigued since it's 4(?) years later and I just finally finished it! I enjoyed it well enough- it's nothing earth shattering and the writing is pretty simplistic, but it was fine. I'm glad I ended up picking it up again, so that it's no longer hanging over me, unfinished! The second half is told in Reed's pov and the man has secrets! Quite unexpected secrets, too. It was an interesting twist to have thrown in there.
Wow was this a good read. Nothing by Jenn Foor would be complete without the proper amount of angst and this book had it's share.
This is a story about lies and betrayal but also love and redemption.
Reeds got secrets that catch up with him in a pretty huge way and Ericka is floored by the things that she finds out about the man she loves. As Reed's past unravels truths are revealed and heartache and emotion take over. Is Ericka willing to put aside Reed's past and be a part of his future? Does Reed deserve a second chance? I loved how this story played out and how it affected these two.
Erica is youngish career-focused woman who has inherited her beloved aunt's B & B on the Maryland coast. She plans to sell the sprawling house and return to her job in Baltimore, but must check out the property, first. Erica is isolated when a tropical storm blows in.
The house is battered and loses electric with the ferocity of the storm, and Erica is even more spooked to find a soaked stranger on the doorstep. Reluctantly allowing Reed a room, she's lucky to learn he's got the skills she needs--mainly carpentry, on account of freak storm damage. But, Reed's also interested in more. Erica's a bit of a "prude" and won't have anything to do with Reed's sexual challenges, well, until she does. In a single night she finds the companionship she'd always wanted, but put off, with a virtual stranger.
The morning's light brings restored power and more passion---until they anger each other with questions of trust...and split. For a bit. The first part of this book is told from Erica's POV which wasn't terribly sympathetic. The language is verbose and stilted to my ear, and Erica seemed whimsical and erratic for a self-professed career-minded gal. I had a bit of trouble connecting with the story, as a result. I also could have done with a few more specifics in her backstory--for example, what was her job? How old was she, exactly? The story suffered, I thought, from too much telling. The smexytimes were decent.
Part Two of this series tells more story from Reed's POV, and we learn that Reed isn't the man he says he is. Literally. The big secret of his history is something he'd rather never confess, but the ill woman and unclaimed child on the doorstep of his and Erica's B & B are not easy to explain away. We get some confused meanderings and soul-searching and as HEA as one can imagine for a couple in the midst of a huge transition. Less smexy in this book, and what there is is awkward. I had liked Reed a bunch in Book One, and a lot less in Book Two. Still, he's okay. He's trying to do the best he can repairing his mistakes in this world. Erica went up in my esteem the second go-round, so there's that.
Erica thought she was happy with her life. She was single and wasn’t looking for love at the moment because she was always wrapped up with her job. However, a wrench is thrown in her plans when she finds out that she has inherited her aunt’s Bed and Breakfast. She assumes she’ll just sell it because she’s a city girl and has no time to be by the beach and run it.
The day Erica takes ownership of the B&B a storm blows into town and with that storm also blows in Reed. Reed shows up to the B&B needing a place to stay for the night. At first, Erica is scared that he could be dangerous but she knows she can’t put him out in the storm either. After awhile she opens up to him and that one night turns into a night she’ll never forget.
As the story continues, we find out Reed is hiding a pretty big secret. If Erica finds out it could change everything and not for the better. When a mystery woman and child show up to the B&B, it’s only a matter of time before his secret is revealed. Question is…will Erica stick around?
The first half of this book is told in Erica’s POV and the second half is in Reed’s. The first half we got to see Erica and Reed connect but I really enjoyed the second half more. My only issue is that it started to get really good and then it was over. It was all tied up pretty quickly and I honestly wish it was longer.
I loved Erica & Shawn's story a love story in "Riding it Out"
Jennifer tells us that the "beginning of this book was originally released in an anthology called AMERICAN HONEY, THE STORM, that is no longer available." Now there are 2 parts to Riding it Out "Erica" (Part 1 The Storm) & "Reed" (Part 2 The Hurricane)
Erica inherited her aunts old house and she just moved there to get things fixed up to sell the place. There is a summer storm and Shawn Reed is on his motorcycle and needs to find a safe place to stay. And, the story goes on from there. No I don't want to give any spoilers so I can't say more. But, know there are secrets that Shawn has and the story will unfold and will pull you into the story! Oh and the sex is HOT between Erica and Shawn once Erica decides to let go.
I really enjoyed this book and I hope you will too.
You done it again Jenn. this story is great. I don't know how you come up with the stories you write all i know is you are a great writer and i enjoy everything you write. I think Reed is hot and Him and Erica are good for each other. I'm glad that they found each other no matter what the problems are they will stay by each side. 5 Stars
What a breath of fresh air this book was. We both had grins on our faces from start to finish.
Erica has inherited a bed and breakfast after losing her aunt to cancer. After singing the papers with the lawyer she returns to the home to put this in place for selling. What she doesn’t realize is how many memories will come back to her once she starts looking around. In the midst of a storm, and being in such an old house, Erica is on her toes. What she doesn’t expect is a visitor.
When Shawn, better known as Reed shows up on her door step looking for a place to stay until the storm passes Erica is hesitant. She is alone, in an old house, in a storm, with the closest town 4 miles away. Does she go with her gut and help him out? Or tell him to back off? Going against her instincts she allows him to stay the night. After all it is a bed and breakfast, she has the room.
It's what happens overnight that changes her whole life. Erica will never be the same.
We loved this novella Jenn, We can’t wait to see where part two takes Erica.
----------------------
This is part 2 of a 2 part series by the fabulous Jennifer Foor. Part 1 was released in an anthology called American Honey.
We first meet Erica and Reed in part one of the series, The Storm. Erica had recently inherited her aunts B&B, figuring she will fix it up and sell it as she doesn't have the time to be running it. But when a storm rolls in, so does Reed. Their relationship blossoms and over time they set up a great life together.
In part 2 we get to see how their relationship has developed over the past year. They have settled into a great routine of running the B&B and are happily living together. But when Erica’s mother and sister come to visit, Reed suddenly feels like he needs to protect himself. Will his past catch up to him sooner than he thought? His new life and a second chance is something he will do anything to protect.
A sudden visitor at the B&B brings Reed’s past right to their door. His secrets are coming to the surface and he will do everything in his power to suppress them. What he doesn't realise is that his future is right in front of him.
A great 2nd half of the story. We loved it just as much as the first. The twist in this book will have you flipping pages to find out more! We loved watching Erica and Reeds relationship go from finding each other to hot and steamy, the love they have for one another is one of a kind.
Told in two parts, Riding It Out starts with Erica ,whom has headed to her Grandmother's Bed and Breakfast to prepare for it's sale as her Grandmother has died and left it to her. She is not the type to run a B & B and prefers her fast-paced working life in the big city. While she is there, preparing things - two things happen, the first is that a stranger knocks on the door. It is pouring with rain and looks like thunderstorms are to be rolling in and he needs a place to sleep. Erica could turn him away, but something inside her tells her to let him in - so she does. The next thing that happens is the power goes out and so begins a fun book with the power out and two strangers - one guy and one girl. The two of course spark a romantic interest towards each other and end up sleeping with one another. The next day or so , he is gone - all she is left with is a name - Shawn Reed.
The second part is a couple of months down the track and Erica is ready to sell, or is she wanting to keep hold of the Bed and Breakfast as it has grown on her ? The real estate guy comes in with the interested party and it turns out to be none other than Shawn. Their second interaction sparks up more butterflies and sizzling chemistry and the pair begin dating and things are going awesome , that is until a blast from Shawn's past comes back in full blow -with a kid and causes Shawn to reveal his "true identity" and "past" to Erica. Will she believe him and love him still for who he really is or will this be the bump in the relationship that sends them spiralling back to square one ?
Find out in "Riding It Out" , the newest book released by Jennifer Foor.
Jennifer mentions in the blurb that the beginning of the book was previously released in an Anthology. Riding it out is broken up into two different parts. “Erica” part 1 The Storm and “Reed” part 2 the hurricane. As you might have guessed the first part is told from Erica’s POV and the 2nd is told by Reed.
Erica inherits an old bed and breakfast from her aunt after she dies. When Erica goes to her lawyer to start the process of putting everything into her name a storm starts right when she enters the empty house. When a motorcycle rider shows up at her door looking for shelter for the night against her gut she lets him stay for the night.
Erica is a self-proclaim good girl and prude. She doesn’t have one night stands or even get intimate with men she doesn’t know really well. When she meet Reed she gets feelings that she isn’t used to and it makes her want to step out of the box she put herself in. With one crazy and intense night she needs to figure out what is going to make her happy. Staying in the house she has always loved or go back to the city and try and be happy.
This book was really interesting in the way it was written. Both parts are about a novella length and tell two different periods of Erica and Reed’s love story. The second part takes place a few months after the first part ends. I kind of wished the story ended in the first part but I also don’t We get to learn so much more about Reed and who he is in the second and I would have regretted not getting to know him. I would definitely recommend this story to every romance reader out there.
Alright…Now, I was given the opportunity to check out Riding it Out by Jennifer Foor and for the most part I thought it was a decent quick read. Here’s my synopsis: Erica just inherited a beach side bed and breakfast from her deceased Aunt. In town for only a few days to sign paperwork and check the place out, Erica is in a rush to get back to her job and life. She is startled by a knock on the door and greeted by a handsome stranger seeking shelter from the coastal storm that just touched shore. Riding out the storm they spend an unforgettable night together. Okay, so this story is told in two parts. Part I is in Erica’s POV while Part II is told in Reed’s POV. I liked part II a lot. Reed’s story was more interesting and this is where the book comes to life. Erica’s part is pretty much the “set up” but it was just too unrealistic for me. Like I wanted to slap her often and I found myself thinking, “seriously, there is no way?!!” Lately all the stories I’ve read have either the male or female lead harboring some unforgivable secret that they are so scared for the other to find out for fear of losing them..ENOUGH ALREADY!! Why does everyone gotta be so shady?? However, I actually liked Reed’s drama. It was original and crazy and made me just say wow..definitely didn’t see that coming. I wish the story would have started with that, THEN cut to Erica, then back to Reed again. It, in my opinion, would’ve made the story flow so much better, especially with the bombshell dropped at roughly 65-70% of the book. Overall the story was good and I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Okay, so let me start by saying that yes, this isn't a very lengthy read- so, for those that are expecting that- please do not be disappointed. That being said, it was phenomenal. I mean, definitely one of my Foor faves. It had everything I wanted in a good romance. And the heat- holy crap, was Reed hot. I loved that he was so confident and comfortable with his sexual needs that he was able to coax Erica out of her prudish shell, and finally make her see that she was a sexual being!! She needed that, truly needed it, to be able to discover herself and finally take charge of what she really wanted out of her life.
I was worried that she would lose sight of who she really was, and where she came from, in order to continue with her "city" life. The life that didn't seem to fulfill her at all. So, I was so grateful to Reed for being the push that she needed to bring her back to her roots. Now, when all of his secrets came out, don't think that I didn't want to kick him square in the balls!! Because, I did- I SO did. But, I also found myself being able to understand why he had done the things he had- why he had lived with the secrets he did. And I think I fell for him just a tiny bit more.
Add little Shawn to the mix, and the way Reed brings him into their lives, and that's it- total puddle of mush. I couldn't help but want more of Reed and Erica. I don't know if Jennifer has anything further planned for these two, but I certainly wouldn't hold it against her if she did!! ;)
Riding it Out is a quick and steamy read. My interest was piqued with the premise of the story, and I liked the way it started out-even though I have a hard time thinking that a single young lady would allow an unknown man into her place with no one else there. But setting that aside, I like the setup of the story and the heat between Reed and Erica (but I'm surprised at her immediate acceptance of the things Reed does with her right off the bat).
Erica, while not necessarily making smart decisions for a young lady on her own, is a pretty decent character-though she doesn't seem clear on what path she wants to take for her future. Reed knows what he wants, has your expected alpha male traits, but is keeping a whopper of a secret. It really bothered me that after the length of time he and Erica are together that he still hadn't said anything about it...and once his big secret comes out, I'm surprised how Erica handles it and her eventual decision (I can't really say anything more without spoilers).
The book didn't flow as smoothly as I would have liked-I did take quite a few breaks from it, even as quick of a read as it was.
I understand why Reed did what he did to cause him to have his secret, but him not telling Erica even after they were together for so long, added to her naive attitude with a stranger at the start of the story was a bit of a turnoff for me. It's still a good read, for me it's 3 stars...and clearly for 18+.
My Thoughts: For me, Riding It Out is a sweet and quick read with all the steam that we love from this author. I am sure that Jennifer Foor could write an instruction manual and I would still feel the need to fan myself.
Great storyline, relatable characters, and exception writing that had me finishing this book in one sitting. I highly recommend this to everyone looking for a spicy little read with some emotional twists. This one will not disappoint!
My Short Synopsis: In Part One, we see the immediate chemistry between two strangers build into a scorching hot night of passion. That passion becomes much more than one night when Reed and Erica reconnect and begin to build a future together. Happily ever after seems to be obvious when they decide to run Erica’s late aunts B&B together.
In Part Two, we are led through the reality that the person you have fallen in love with may still be a complete stranger when lies and deceit surface. Secrets come out that threaten the life they have created together. Reed's only hope is to pray for forgiveness and fight for the woman that he is meant to spend his forever with.
Erica and Reed meet during a terrible storm at the B&B she just inherited from her aunt. Erica is unsure what she wants to do with this unexpected inheritance and Reed shows up to get out of the storm and helps her when a tree collapses on part of the roof. Erica and Reed find themselves instantly attracted to each other but Erica is more than reluctant to see where it goes. Reed tells Erica that he is insanely attracted to her and finally wears her down. Reed them leaves after Erica confesses she doesn't know where this thing with them or the B&B is going. Several months later, Erica gets surprised by Reed again and he tries to work it out with her. Part 2 shows us that Reed has been keeping some big secrets from Erica and, as always, they wind up blowing up in his face. Jennifer Foor does a good job at keeping you in suspense as to what his secrets are and why he did what he did, but you find out the whole story and are left wondering how they are going to survive this. Overall a good story and enough plot twists to keep you guessing.
Erica drew me into the story from the very beginning. Her aunt left her the beach B&B where she spent several summers as a child. Her intention was to sell it, but I hoped she would change her mind. For some reason, it just seemed like the right place for her to be. Somehow the business world didn't seem to be a good fit for her.
Shawn is a kind ex-marine who has fallen on hard times. He's no longer in the military and needs to find his niche in life now. He and Erica hit it off from the beginning. What started out as an innocent encounter quickly turns hot and heavy.
I loved getting stories from both POV's. The first half of the story, "The Storm" is told from Erica's POV. In that part, you get the beginning and development of their relationship. The in "The Hurricane", the second half, you get Shawn's history told from his point of view. His part was harder to read, more heart-wrenching but I loved every word. I wasn't expected the major plot twist at all.
I highly recommend one-clicking this amazing read today.
This was my last read for 2014 and what a great choice I made. This was a quick read a great steamy romance with a secret I didn't see coming. I loved their story, the story of Reed and Erica. Erica inherits her aunt's water front bed and breakfast. Erica is a workaholic and only has plans to sell the place and get on with her life. After signing the papers legally making her the new owner, Erica is driving back to the B&B in a horrific storm. Alone in this big house, that she has the fondest of memories of when the doorbell rings and there stands a handsome stranded strange man. Erica is hesitant about letting him in, but she does (I don't think I would have, but then there wouldn't be a book or story) The stranger, Reed, is ex military handsome, slightly older man. The two share an uneventful night. No electricity, fireplace, candles and some wine, hot guy, beautiful girl. Two parts told in different POV's.
Who better to be trapped in a storm with than a stranger?
Part One - The Storm: is a great introduction to the story of an uptight office worker and a former soldier. She has just inherited her aunt's bed and breakfast and he is looking for a purpose. Wonder what will create a bigger whole the tree crashing through the roof or the void in her heart when he rides off on his Harley.
Part Two - The Hurricane: takes us a year into the future when things are about to change dramatically - Hurricane Melissa accidentally aims for the b&b and the outcome will surprise you!
Favorite passage: - I swore that dead bodies had to have been buried under there at some point. - “Speaking of asses,” I changed the subject. “What took you so long to come to bed last night? Are we boarding a stud that caught your eye?” - “Sometimes love just ain’t enough.”
Hello Reed! Sexy military man, wet and dripping on my front porch, needing a place to stay for the night...let me find you a nice warm bed to sleep in..MINE..lol. This was a great quick read. I liked that the first part of the book was from Erica's point of view and the second was from Reed's.
The two meet by accident during a tropical storm and the heat between them is more electric than the summer storm raging outside! But Reed has a past that the wants to forget about and when the past comes slamming in, Erica isn't sure she knows Reed at all. Another great addition to Jennifer Foor's amazing books!!
Jenn Foor is one of my favorite authors. She's one of the authors that no matter what it is I automatically want to read the book that's coming out. This was a perfect story with some pretty awesome twist and an ending that made my heart happy. Reed was unbelievably without a doubt the man I'd love to come knocking during a storm. He is strong, hot, and well let's just say knows how to take care of Erica. I read this is one setting and I stayed up way into the night to finish it knowing I had to go to work the next day. Reed and Erica's story is a wild ride with secrets, turns, longing sadness, forgiveness, and in the end perfect. Don't miss this one,
WOW What an incredible way to start 2015! Part 1 starts with The Storm - raging outside and inside with Erica and Reed! Hot and "fall in love" romantic! Part 2 The Hurricane - OMG I did not see this coming!! There are secrets and then there are SECRETS!!! I was so afraid Erica was going to just flip out!! I Loved Reed and just wanted him to get to tell his story! SO good - absolutely Loved it!!! Pages just turned themselves - could not put it down.
Jennifer Foor is one of my Favorite authors!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed the concept, the characters are decent but could've had more development. Sometimes I just want the story to take off and everyone fall in love but this was a bit too fast. Not enough that it ruined the story but I didn't connect with the characters much and sometimes found that I really didn't like Erica. I really liked Reed, when his secret came out I just wanted to hug him and tell Erica to get over herself. It does end with a HEA, and everyone is happy.
I finished this book but I can't say that I truly enjoyed it. I feel like it had potential but it moved way to quickly and I never connected to the characters or the story.
*I recieved and ARC from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review
