Rate this book
Sold into slavery, sent to work at a deadly magical academy... and now I'm bound to four irresistible supernatural protectors.

When my evil stepfather sold me into slavery, I thought my life was over. Sent to work in the kitchens at Darkstone Academy for the Magical Arts, an isolated reform school filled with dangerous young mages, I quickly learned that survival meant embracing the darkness. Danger shadowed my every step—until I found myself unexpectedly soul-bonded to four powerful Tama, a possessive and deadly Merfolk prince; Boreas, a loyal and fiery dragon lord; Gwydion, a seductive, cursed Dark Fae prince; and Ilhan, a noble mage lord whose honor is both his strength and his burden.

But our bond is more than passion—it's our only hope. Together, we uncover a sinister plot designed to ignite a deadly war between the supernatural races and humanity. I must master the unexpected powers surging within me, even as our forbidden love risks everything we've fought for.

On the fence

Overall, I’m not sure if I liked the book or not. It seems like 1800s London and a mashup of medieval times and had this weird alternate universe. It was interesting, but everything was so formal, that there appeared to be no real emotions. The author tried hard, but I didn’t believe it. The story itself was interesting and kept me reading through all the books, but the stiff feeling of the book is keeping me from giving it more stars. There were some grammatical issues, but they didn’t take me too far out of the story.

Darkstone Academy – 1/5 Stars

I genuinely struggled to get through this series—not just once, but twice. First, I tried reading it. When that failed, I gave the audiobooks a shot once the full series dropped. I did make it further with audio... but honestly, reading it? Near impossible.

The concept had promise. Djinn and Mermen? Yes, please. I was excited for something unique and darkly magical. But what I got felt more like a watered-down young adult novel awkwardly pretending to be an adult paranormal romance. It didn’t work. At all.

The writing was rough—repetitive and juvenile. And let’s talk about the word “friend.” If I had a dollar for every time it was used, I’d have funded a better editor. That word is officially banned. You’ve used up the lifetime quota—for both of us.

The FMC? She’s officially on my “Worst Female Leads of All Time” list. Painfully frustrating and utterly unrelatable.

So yes, I got my refund on the audiobook. And no, I won’t be revisiting this one. Ever.

But I had some issues. They’re more notes for the editor than a review. The author earned at least 4.5 stars.

The multiple editing errors should have been fixed before this collection was released. They are mostly incorrect singular versus multiple nouns and missing words like on or of.

The start of the fourth book absolutely contradicts the third book where at least the dragon and merman definitely knew when the contract happened! I also don’t understand the contradictory actions and representations of the villain’s son. Also, if you’re going to make something out to be a major problem, you should include resolving it in the story. It just miraculously stops being mentioned.

Finally, the bonus novella was mostly an identical retelling of parts of book 4 from a different perspective. Since I had just finished book 4, all of that dialogue and scene setting should have been skipped.
