Seventeen-year-old Callie Williams, a basketball phenom, heads to the beach and stays with her anything-goes friend Courtney. There, she meets Ryan. Gorgeous and witty, Ryan might just be everything she needs. But when things don’t add up, will he be the answer to her problems or one more problem to answer? Only time will tell, but time is short, and Callie needs answers—and fast!
Born in Massachusetts, but raised in Florida, Kimberly Blackadar graduated from Florida State University and then spent eight years in the classroomprimarily as an English, social studies, and drama teacher. Now a homeschooling mom living in Minnesota, she draws from her teaching experiences to offer realistic fiction to her readers."
Some friends are friends for a lifetime. Other friends for only awhile. Friends move away. Friends have new friends. But friends are seldom forgotten.
THE SECRETS WE KEEP, Author Kimberly Blackadar’s new novel for young adults, is the story of the “Seven Cs” and how they became friends, drifted apart, and some later reconnected. The girls’ story takes place the summer before their senior year of high school. Callie Williams is a great basketball player with scouts already watching her. But Callie has a lot on her mind this summer besides basketball. She and her boyfriend, Mike, have broken up. Then there’s Ryan, a hottie on the basketball team, who she could really like, if she could trust him. When a girl’s life sucks, she needs friends to help her through the tough times. Her friends, Chloe, Caitlyn, and Courtney, however, have problems of their own so they’re not much help for Callie.
Kimberly Blackadar’s novel has a lot of teen love, doubts, and decisions to make about which college to attend, which boy is the right one, and why life is so complicated. I think THE SECRETS WE KEEP will remind readers of those years when friends are so important and every event is a crisis. It did me, anyway. The author has written a story about friendship and trust, love and loss. Experiences most everyone faces at some point in their lives. The author provided me with a copy of her book for my honest review.
