Saltwater and Sweets: A Cozy Fantasy Why Choose Romance

Rate this book
Utterly alone.
I've found myself completely and utterly alone.
Okay, that's dramatic. Sure my parents passed a long time ago, and my best friends are now out traveling the seas, and I'm stuck here running my sweet shop...alone.
But almost as if the Stars knew that I needed, my life is infiltrated by a tall, dark, and beautiful vampire who insists on pushing my buttons. Just as I start letting my guard down and letting him in, an old flame from my past waltzes back in and insists on getting a second chance at love.
Now the two of them are fighting for my affections, and I have to choose between a new fling and an old love.
Or do I?

Saltwater and Sweets is why choose romance that starts as a love triangle but ends with the FMC staying with both MMCs. It's a spicy, cozy fantasy romance featuring a tentacled sea witch, a red headed merman, and a dark and mysterious vampire. It takes place in the world of Sangaris during the events of Bound By Force and there are some easter eggs pertaining to the series (The Fate Bound Saga), but is meant to be read as a standalone.

"My girl. Because she is mine. She just doesn’t know it’s yet." (Ch 2)

A cozy fantasy Why Choose romance, involving Una - a candy-making sea witch with a tragic past, Roan - a merman full of longing who has been searching for her for several years, and Lore - an obsessed-at-first-sight stalkerish vampire who fortuitously stumbled upon her. An unlikely trio. Una wants to simultaneously run from and succomb to them, but the back and forth between the two is a bit overwheming for her. And she doesn't want to have to choose.

‘What happens if at the end of this, I can’t make a decision?’ (Ch 8)

A competition ensues for her affections, and in the end, she's to make a choice.

I kind of wish the blurb didn't have a spoiler, and it left Una's choice as a mystery. It would have been fun trying to figure out who she would end up with.

Liked the rivalry and the amiable comraderie that develops. It was a cute read, with a little spicy ménage a trois.

Cute and cozy short story about a vampire, a siren, and a sea witch.

FMC Una is a tentacled sea witch, who spends all her time in her fae form on land, receives an unexpected intruder in her sweet shop one morning. The unexpected intruder, MMC Lore the gorgeous vampire, is running from the authorities, and on his way out of her shop, abruptly kisses Una, and then goes on his way. While Una is pleasantly flustered, she does not expect to see Lore again (nor does she know his name at the time).

As Una is visiting the ocean before drowning her sorrows since her only two friends have left town, a blast from the past, MMC Roan, a very grown up and attractive merman siren, comes waltzing back into her life. Roan and Lore decide it is only fair if they both date Una, and then have her decide at the end of the moon cycle who she wants to be with. Una fears she may not be able to choose...

This story has cozy beachy vibes, and lucky Una gets to date a suave vampire and a sexy merman. This book has a decent amount of spice for being a shorter story. This was my first story reading about a sea witch/cephalopod character, and I have to say it was quite interesting to imagine while the characters were doing spicier acts. You also probably wonder how a vampire can get along with aquatic creatures, but the author writes a wonderful world full of enchanted objects that really make it all make sense for this unlikely threesome. I love the under water kingdom, and that it has wet and dry rooms. Important to have dry rooms for cooking, because apparently wet soggy fish gets old!
There is a spicy underwater scene with the throuple, and it will leave you with quite a lot of mental pictures!

Some Fave Quotes:
"The pretty shifterkin inside has become a raging obsession after just one encounter."

"My girl. Because she is mine. She just doesn't know it yet."

""You have no idea that since I saw you, the only thing I can think about is your mouth on mine. The defiance and challenge in those violet eyes is intoxicating.""

"...that sweet mix of chocolate and caramel that I didn't realize was him (Lore) at the beginning. Roan smells like strawberries and cream."

"I lean up toward her and rub the tip of my nose against hers. Every touch lights my body on fire."

"In the sea, I'm an apex predator. Here, on land, she's the only one I want to devour."

"Any hopes I had of suppressing the scent of my arousal goes right out the damn window. Great Stars, what these men do to me."

"Watching Lore command Roan in bed is my new favorite pastime."

"Death by sex...is that a thing?"

Thank you so much to the author for a copy of this book!

ARC Review

Una is our FMC—a shifterkin, a sea witch, and a maker of magical mayhem with a heart as big as the ocean she fears. Lore is a vampire with shady dealings, sinfully good looks, and absolutely no chill when it comes to the woman he instantly claims as his. His first move? Break into her house, go through her things, and roll around in her bed like a lovesick menace. It's wildly inappropriate. It’s also hilarious. And somehow, it works.

Then there’s Roan—our old flame, a chiseled and dangerous merman with royalty in his blood and old wounds swimming just behind his eyes. But this isn’t merely a clash of past and present affections. Fate has a larger design, binding Lore, Roan, and Una together with threads that tug tighter as the story unfolds. This isn’t simply a ‘why choose’ romance—it’s a tale of destiny, rebirth, and carving out your place in a world that’s constantly shifting beneath your feet (or fins).

Fraser delivers a cozy, lighthearted fantasy brimming with enchanted charm, tender throuple dynamics, and just the right touch of emotional spice. But don’t be fooled by the sugar-kissed surface—there are deeper currents here. Quiet hints, unfinished histories, and whispers of ancient magic promise that the sweetest parts of this series are still to come.

Magic here isn’t grand or showy—it’s practical, lived-in, and part of the rhythm of daily life. Ironically, the one place magic isn’t found is in the sweets Una sells. The real enchantment there is comfort, not conjuring.

Everything in the story flows with a natural ease—from the playful banter to the crackling chemistry and the spicy, emotionally-charged bedroom scenes. It all feels grounded and unforced. If there’s one stumble, it’s Una’s surprisingly swift recovery from her water aversion. Given it’s been an eight-decade-long battle, the moment feels a little too easy and could have used more emotional weight. And while the town is charming in glimpses, it remains just that—glimpses. There's a sense of untapped depth waiting just off-page. Here’s hoping future installments dive deeper into its magic, history, and heart.

Saltwater and Sweets is warm, weird, and just the right amount of wicked—a candy-coated coastal romance with teeth, tentacles, and a whole lot of heart.

I received an ARC of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Initially, I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this one. Mainly because when we meet the first of the 2 MMC, he comes off a bit creepy and stalkery. But I think the author is aware of this because it is referenced and explanations given. Just put me a bit on the defensive at first.

I do love the way consent is written otherwise in this story! They talk about it a lot but it feels natural, like conversations that people in love would absolutely have. Given the fact we have a couple made of three people, there is more to discuss and I really appreciate how it isn’t glossed over.

I love the different cultures we see here and the ways that characters learn as they go, growing both as people and in their relationships. There’s a lot of creativity with cultural norms and even anatomy…

Speaking of that…this book is very spicy. I was expecting it and it definitely delivered! If you’re just getting into more spicy books, this one might throw you for a bit of a loop. But it’s well done and I enjoy that emotion is given just as much weight as physical sensations.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy little world with its wonderful relationships (including some beautiful platonic ones from our side characters!) and if cozy fantasy is your jam, this one has a bit more uniqueness to it while delivering the lovely moments we crave

‘Saltwater and Sweets’ held my interest from start to finish. It’s cozy, sweet, and delectably spicy. Three souls fated to find one another. Lore: a super suave, irresistibly handsome Vampire; Roan: a bite your palm sensual, gorgeous Merman Siren; and Una: an impossibly lonely, incredibly beautiful tentacled Sea Witch. Their journey is so worth the read.

* The graphic/spicy bi-awakening, mm content is respectfully delivered. The flow from attraction to intercourse felt organic, not 90s Harlequin romance B-flick generic.

I never would have thought to pair a vampire with a merman and sea witch, but it works out quite well! I'm usually not one to go with a 'why choose' romance, but this one really worked for me. I think it helped that all three characters had great chemistry with one another, and it felt like it developed naturally and had time to go. And yes, the spice is there and it's done quite well.

I received this as an ARC for free in exchange for my review, but my opinions are my own.

A wonderful, cozy, short romance! This was a very cute standalone, which is connected to the wider existing Fate Bound Saga series. I loved the banter in this story, and I found the characters to be charming and not exactly who you would expect would be paired together. Overall, a very enjoyable addition to this world!

This is a super cute standalone, but also ties in well to the existing series The fate bound saga.
A slow burn with a love triangle that leads to a perfect thrupple. I read this so fast that I couldn't put it down. The characters are charming, with great banter, and the second chance is so well done that it didn't annoy me at all, and I usually hate second chance. A loveable thief, a prince and bakery/candy maker, absolutely brilliant mix, highly recommend this quick read.

A super fun short romance. It ties into a series but it’s also a standalone.

Let me just start by saying: I came for the cozy seaside vibes and ended up staying for the tentacles, fangs, and emotional whiplash. And I regret nothing.

In Saltwater and Sweets, our poor cinnamon roll FMC is just trying to vibe in her sugary little shop, grieving her parents, missing her besties, and attempting to run a business without a single emotionally stable man in sight—and then BOOM: hot vampire. As one does.

Enter Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Fangs, the vamp who doesn’t ask to wreck your peace—he just shows up, leans in real close, and says, “You look like you need your entire emotional infrastructure destroyed and rebuilt, sweetheart.”

Just when she starts thinking “Hey maybe immortality with fangs and finger guns isn’t so bad…” in swims her salty ex, the redheaded merman of regret, sashaying in like he never left the group chat. Suddenly, we’ve got a full-blown magical love triangle with more tension than a saltwater taffy pull.

But plot twist? She keeps them both. As she SHOULD.

Between the sweet shop scenes that made me want to inhale baked goods like a feral raccoon and the spicy scenes that made me question if my Kindle had a fan setting—this book is equal parts cozy and chaotic, and I’m obsessed.

Bonus points for:
• A tentacled sea witch that made me go, “You know what? Good for her.”
• A story that takes place during Bound by Force, so fans of the Fate Bound Saga get tasty little easter eggs.
• A why-choose romance that feels earned, balanced, and hotter than a vampire in direct sunlight.

In conclusion: if you like your romance with drama, fantasy, spice, and just the right amount of “I accidentally have two soulmates and now I bake muffins about it,” this book is your new best friend.

🧁 Verdict: 5 sugary, salty, spicy stars. Would 100% let this vampire and merman fight over me while I eat pastries and pretend to be surprised.

4.5 - I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and once again, this author absolutely delivered. This was such a fun, sweet, and fast-paced why choose fantasy, and I found myself flying through it in one sitting. What I love most about this author and this book is her ability to get right to the heart of the story without dragging anything out. This style is engaging, clear and filled with just the right amount of emotion and connection between the characters. The dynamic between the three main characters was written so well I really felt the chemistry and depth between them and it made the whole story fit so well together.

This book felt extra special because of the authors previous works - the fate bound saga. Bound by chance/force were my first ever fantasy and why choose books, so getting to dive into this new one was exciting on a whole new level. And when I hit the epilogue, let’s just say the cameo from Zorvan had me squealing with joy. That little tie-in to the fate bound saga was such a satisfying and unexpected treat.

If you’re looking for a short and sweet, why choose fantasy romance with a happy ending that leaves you smiling (and maybe wishing for a sequel), I highly recommend picking this one up. It left me wanting more of these characters in the best way.

ARC Review – A Steamy, Supernatural Why-Choose Romance That Delivers All the Feels

I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

From the very first page, I was hooked. This supernatural why-choose romance blends sizzling spice (think mm, mf, mfm dynamics) with a fast-paced plot and emotionally satisfying relationships. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and the connections build quickly but convincingly.

The world the author has created is rich and intriguing—complex without being overwhelming—and left me wanting to know more. It’s the kind of universe you want to curl up in, especially because the story balances a world of kingdoms and political tension with a seriously hot romance. It’s the best of both worlds: plot and spice! . While there is some angst, it's resolved in a timely way without unnecessary drama.

This book is a complete standalone, but it’s connected to another series by the same author—which I’ll definitely be diving into next. If you're looking for a steamy, feel-good paranormal romance with heart, heat, and a hint of magic, this one's for you.

Omg, I am obsessed with this magical little gem of a book!! 💕✨ It’s a spicy, swoony standalone fantasy with allll the fated mates, brooding boys, and just the right amount of drama to keep you totally hooked! Like seriously, I couldn’t stop reading!! 😍

The characters? Chef’s kiss! We’ve got a brave but scared-of-the-water sea-dweller FMC (yes, irony!! 🧜‍♀️), a charming land-dwelling vampire thief (hello, swoon 🖤), and a regal sea prince who’s literally throne-bound but still sooo dreamy. I absolutely loved how the three of them just clicked so beautifully—it felt natural and full of heart. Their relationship is sweet, spicy, and just… ugh, everything my romantasy heart needed! 💫💖

And can we talk about how they’re all willing to fight for each other and make land AND sea work for their love?? Like please, I’m melting. 🥺 The friendships were so supportive too, and the creature variety added such a fun

Total fantasy love-fest with heat, heart, and happily ever after vibes. I adored it

A very interesting story. It is about sugar and sweets but also about fated mates. It's corky and sweet. I honestly found the characters really funny most of the time but there is some sad parts in here because the backstory of why Una won't go back into the ocean is sad. Lore I think it's such a funny character as a vampire fae because of how he is and his sense of humor and Roan with how serious he can be and not be at the same time. Una She kind of reminds me of a Ursula but good? I hope that makes sense because she does have like tentacles and she's kind of like a human fae too or as they call it land fae. It is a super quick read but it does tie in at the end to her bounded by Fate series. It's a very short spot but I do like that it does show something that is stated in that book. Because that means that we're probably going to meet these three characters again and I can't wait for that.

I'm Obsessed!

I swear KD laces crack into her books because I can never get enough of any of them and this is no exception. I DEVOURED this book and will need more ASAP to placate my addiction.

This a cozy fantasy romance that I found to be a really good palette cleanser to the long series I read right before. I love that it ties into her series The Fate Bound Saga and I am really looking forward to seeing more of them. It isn't a want. It's a need.

Some tropes i loved in this book include insta-love (which im not normally very big on, but KD did it right), second chance, stalker-vibes, why choose, fated mates. I loved all of the characters and look forward to learning more about them and see their storyline progress. I highly recommend this book to any other why-choose fantasy romance readers.

Overcoming challenges for love

This is a super sweet romance of unexpected mates. We have our sea dweller FMC who is terrified of the water, a land dweler vampire theif, and a sea dweller set to take the throne.

I absolutely love the way these characters all come together. Their relationships are sweet. They each bring something that is needed to the relationship.

I also love how they are willing to find a way for everything to work since they need both land and sea.

I really love how this feeds into the Fate Bound Saga and I'll be interested in seeing them pop up over there.

Blessed with an ARC of KD Fraser’s Saltwater and Sweets! This was definitely a cozy romance but very heavy on the spice! Omg!! 😳 but the spice was soooooo nice and very sweet! The adventure this trio, Lore, Una and Roan, goes on to figure out who they are and who they are together is so heart warming! The writing is fantastic and the build up to the romance is steady but quick! The tension is definitely still there and the way the men vie for Unas attention made my heart flutter! If you want a sweet monster romance, Saltwater And Sweets is just the book for you!

I thought I was getting into a saucy little shifter why choose novella, which it is, and is what I've come to expect from the author. I didn't know however it is connected to the Fate Bound Saga! I enjoy the series so much this was a great little sweet treat while (patiently I promise) waiting for the next book. Her MMC variety is top notch. This one was a little more on the sweet side. Was a fun summer read.

KD Fraser absolutely knows how to write anything with mythical/monster spicy romance! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ with spice! This was a super quick short fun read that's apart the Fate Bound Saga world.

What's happens when you mash up a vampire, siren, and a sea witch? You get a feisty fmc Una, Lore and Roan! The banter is spectacular and there's a little of everything so a bit of something for everyone!

A must read!

The vampire threw me off since he is paired with a merman and sea witch but the difference that was brought in because of this was good. I'm usually not one to go with a 'why choose' romance, but this one was a good read for me. The characters felt like they had depth and the relationships developed well while still having room to grow.
