I took control of the Shadow Clan, giving the district’s residents something they hadn’t had in years—a chance to breathe freely. Independence, protection, and a shot at a normal life.

But to the rest of society, the Shadow Clan was still nothing more than a den of killers, criminals, and thieves.

They despised us. They refused to leave us alone. And worst of all? They underestimated us.

A fatal mistake for the puppet masters who were determined to reclaim their lost toy—no matter the cost.

The Last Paladin #3 by Roman Savarovsky

A high-octane continuation of the series that shifts focus from solitary survival to clan management, delivering intense action sequences while raising the stakes for the protagonist's control over the Shadow Clan.

The third installment picks up immediately with the protagonist fully entrenched in his new role as the leader of the Shadow Clan. Having taken control of the district, he has provided the residents with a semblance of independence and protection—a luxury they haven't known in years. However, the external world still views the clan as a den of killers, criminals, and thieves, leading to immediate conflict. The narrative drive of this volume centers on the puppet masters who are determined to reclaim their lost toy (the clan and the district), setting the stage for a series of defensive wars and strategic counter-attacks.

Themes and Character Arc:
This book marks a significant shift in the protagonist's journey. He moves from being a lone wolf to a warlord responsible for the lives of others.

Leadership vs. Morality: The protagonist struggles with the perception of his clan. While he sees them as people needing protection, the world sees them as vermin. His leadership style is defined by brutal pragmatism—he refuses to be underestimated and is willing to pay any cost to maintain the district's freedom.
Escalation of Conflict: The enemies make a fatal mistake by underestimating the Shadow Clan. This theme of underestimation serves as the catalyst for the book's violent conflicts, where the protagonist proves that his thieves are a disciplined fighting force under his command.

Fans of the series praise the pacing, noting that every chapter brings a new twist. The shift to clan leadership provides a fresh dynamic that prevents the progression fantasy tropes from becoming stale. The action sequences are highlighted as heart-pounding and intense, solidifying the series' reputation for delivering high-quality combat scenes alongside its world-building.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3.0/5) — A strategic and violent expansion of the story that successfully raises the stakes from personal survival to the survival of a people.

Eh. I'm done with this series.

I'm sick of there being no tension. The invincible main character just keeps going from one action scene to the next. At no time is there any sense of tension, foreboding, worry. Invincible man will just whip out some new skill that completely takes care of whatever battle he gets into. His annoying arrogance doesn't help either.

quick fun read but very surface level

It’s been a fun ride so far as long as you are not looking for something too deep and can overlook some plot holes. 3 books in but still no true direction, just a guy doing whatever he wants. No explanation as to what happened to the tower and people in it, no real explanation as to what happened to cause the red and yellow zone to keep expanding. Fun and I’ll read the next one but not terribly invested.

Nice but not outstanding

Politics, portals, assassination attempts and a lot of women sharing or eager to share Marcus' bed.

While the sidekicks are funny and act as much needed comedic relief, i found Marcus too overpowered and overbearing. He is just too in control of every situation he finds himself in all the time..

This should have been better. That said for the current crop of the 'Russian sphere' authors this story has up until now been above the average but is now with bk#3 starting to drop in quality.

Far to many rabbits pulled out of the authors hat without any foundation.. and so on.

Seems like the author is skipping on fleshing out the story; being vague in the extreme to push out this for capitalistic reasons.
In my opinion it would have been better if more time and effort was put into expanding on deepening the foundational aspects of the setting.. Book three and we are all still pretty much clueless about the setting/world outside the MC's sphere.

The technical writing also has some awkward issues. Hard to make sense of who's saying what or just plain odd things like the following description of a Tank:

~ Just when it looked like the standoff might fizzle for the third time, a goddamn tank rolled up.
An eight-wheeled beast with twin turrets and a sleek, silent barrel. It looked capable of leveling half the block. ~

I can't make sense of above description of a Tank.

As is this deserves 2.5/5 rating at best imho.

regret I bought book 4 before reading this one

Even though the first two books had some flaws like MC always pulling something out of his butt last minute to win, and the books being too short for the price, I thought they were pretty good for genre. Unfortunately this one took that idea a step further with an OP parrot and cat while sprinkling a little bit of ridiculousness with every hot woman throwing themselves at the MC. This morphed from decent action series to silly plot twists that made me think the book should have been called the life of a player. He really didn’t need to sleep with someone new every quarter of the book to keep story going. For such a short read, that just killed my interest in the series.

Another Russian LitRPG series, definitely one of the better ones. A paladin is transported forward in time and enters a very different one he left and has to not only regain his power but build a life amidst the political intrigues of the new world. It helps that he is overpowered and knowledgeable about the intricacies of magic the new world has forgotten. He has a pretty good moral compass in that he tends to only kill bad people and monsters and helps the less powerful and vulnerable and protects his new friends and kingdom. The plot is a bit more complicated than other similar books, but, still, this is genre hero fare, which I happen to like.

Bringing the Shadow Clan into the light seems counter-intuitive, yet that is precisely what Marcus is doing - thereby disconcerting and offending an amazing number of princes. I like Marcus' idea of governing (i.e. give goals and guidelines and let the people figure out how to accomplish them). I am not so sure of his take on his responsibility for building up Clan finances - surely he doesn't have to do it all himself, although he is effective. It looks like the game is afoot - and Marcus is playing hard! This series is more fun and immersive than I expected it would be. I need to get my hands on the next book soon.

This entire book is gone completely downhill, it's fallen into the royal road dumpster fire area. The MC is next level arrogant, it's no wonder why other facttions colluded against him. So, do we get any adventure? No he is still in the same town, apparently all of humanity on the planet is in one town. Do we get any growth? No because apparently he knows everything just like some teenager. Do we get flushed out characters? No they are all flat as the paper they were written on.

Read slowly

Love these books. I have to remember to read slower or I'll tear through it on one sitting. Great action, humor, and I like where the plot is going. If I have one complaint, it's that the books are too short! Don't cheat yourself - pick up the first book in the series and get stuck in.

The latest books in The Last Paladin series are a nonstop ride. The protagonist’s leadership of the Shadow Clan provides a perfect setup for intense action sequences, brutal confrontations, and strategic battles. Every chapter brings a new twist, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend for fans of heart-pounding action!

I received a review copy of this book.
Still as good as the previous books. New critters, more portals, even more polotical nonsense, and of course, the best part, tanks, rare cars, and all the highjinx that goes with obtaining them. Great fun this one is.

It's good book

Good book. Recommend you. Love little creatures that bring levity to story. Main character collects family of choice. Almost forgot about under boss Beast. Can't wait for sequel.

Paladins work is never done

There is so much going on in this story and it leaves many things undone. Hopefully the next book will finish the other little pieces left to do. But this adventure really shows the integrity of our Paladin!

Getting there.

Much more world building and intrigue in this installment. I don’t prefer political machinations but there was still some good character development. On to the next one!

good but too short

This remains a fun and entertaining series. This book was well written and the characters are compelling but it’s much too short given the price.

Captivating

This series grabbed me with the first book and hasn’t let go yet. Each book is filled with strategy, action, and charismatic characters. It’s a fun read

Solid and workmanlike. Marcus is kind of a butthorn, but not unbearable; mostly.

More fun chaos!

The pets are fun and woven into the action quite nicely. Hard world to figure out But familiarity is clarified the strange.

Very well done. Slow build but fun.

Main character is still very likable and enjoyable to follow this book is more transitional but I'm enjoying it as the interactions are satisfying with the other supporting cast. Overall really good series that's simple and complex at the same time. I definitely recommend the series books 1 through 3. Start book 4 next
