Mr. Laurence A. St. John was born on January 11, 1965 in Toledo Ohio. Laurence has one older brother and two younger sisters. Mr. St. John along with his parents, brother and sisters moved once while growing up to Genoa Ohio, just south of Toledo. While attending Genoa Area schools, Mr. St. John was active in track, football and baseball. Later, after he graduated from Genoa High School (Comets) in 1983, he worked for a few manufacturing companies. At the age of 23 and after three years of dedication, hard work and sweat, in 1988, Mr. St. John received his first-degree black belt (Shodan) in Tae Kwon Do. This gave him the self-confidence and perseverance needed to surmount anything that came his way. When Mr. St. John was 25 years old he fell in love then married the love of his life, Julie in 1990. Mr. St. John adopted her two young wonderful children Joe and Jan shortly after. Out of high school for nearly fifteen years and after persuaded by his former manager, Mr. St. John attended Owens State Community College where he obtained an Associates Degree in Microcomputer Business Systems while working full-time. While working in the steel processing business for almost fifteen years, Mr. St. John’s place of employment changed hands, for the third time in 2006; fighting for his job, again. In the same year his first granddaughter, Kendall, “Papa’s Angel” was born. Mr. St. John described this as one of the most uplifting moments of his life. In addition, it was during this time when his emotions were running wild; he became inspired as well as determined to write his penned-up thoughts on paper. Nearly four years later, he had completed his first MG/Teen fantasy novel, Metatron: The Angel Has Risen. The second novel in the series, Metatron: The Mystical Blade is also available on paperback and Kindle eBook. Laurence is currently working on book 3 in the METATRON SERIES. Laurence currently holds the position of Administrations Manager at Precision Strip, Inc. in Perrysburg Ohio, where he works full time. He continually writes in his spare time; weekends and after work, and is endlessly inspired by his five grand kids Kendall, Eli, Sadie, Evelyn and Harper.
This is a wonderful young adult book series and I keep loving it more with each book in the series. Tyler is now a superhero, discovering new and cool powers each day, yet the challenges ahead of him keep mounting up as the author presents new twists at each turn. A superhero he might be, but he still has to deal with classes, a girlfriend, sports and his new night shifts. More importantly, he needs to harness the full powers of Metatron. The book is full of adventure, humor and sweet romance. Looking forward to reading the third book.
Metatron: The Mystical Blade by Laurence St. John is the second book in the Metatron series.
13 year old Tyler Thompson is on a journey to become a fully-fledged superhero, along with the help of his dog Maxx, his friends and his karate teacher. He already has some impressive superpowers including Flash speed, an impenetrable force field, enhanced vision, an extraordinarily high intellect and is developing more all the time.
After receiving a mysterious text message that threatens revenge against him, his family and friends by the man that killed his father, who has escaped from prison, he goes on a mission to find Dr Payne and return him to prison. To do this he has to enter the mysterious and high security AREA 51 where the meteorite that will give him the rest of his powers and fulfil his destiny is believed to be hidden along with his grandfather.
He is in a race against time to retrieve his full powers, stop Dr Payne and help the world in a battle of good versus evil while figuring out how to use all his new powers and the Mystical Blade. He has to do this all while still being a normal teenager with school, classes, friends and his girlfriend.
Overall, although this book is aimed at teenagers and young adults I found it very enjoyable. Fast paced with lots of action that teenagers will love. A superhero story with fighting, shooting, knifes and violence (not excessive or extreme) and lots cool superpowers teenagers will love this fantasy story.
The story also has a message telling kids to rise above their problems, while respecting their parents and other people, to study and work hard and be a good person. It also has themes covering divorce, young love and friendship.
While this series may appeal more to 13 year old boys, it will also appeal to girls in the form of Tyler’s girlfriend who keeps him grounded but who is also more than capable of looking after herself with her karate skills.
I haven’t read the first book in the series, Metatron: The Angel Has Risen, but this one is written in such a way that if you haven’t read the previous one you can still enjoy this as a standalone book as it gives flashbacks to anything that is needed to know.
A very enjoyable story and I would highly recommend it.
Tyler is a 13 year old superhero. Well not a full superhero......yet. He is still in training and has not received his full powers yet. Then he receives a cryptic text that warns him and threatens his family. Now he has to find out where the rest of his powers are located and get to them in time. Tyler is 13, extremely smart, football player, great son, boyfriend and superhero. Now has to fight a crazy scientist who he thought he already dealt with. The story is very well written. It has great action and his girlfriend is a refreshingly down to earth girl. For young teen boys I can see them being interested. It has a great lesson. It was nice to see a guy who had it all not be a bully. I wish I would have read the first book. Even though I hadn't read the first one I was still able to follow along pretty well. Everything was explained beautifully.
This book is a great second installment for the series. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I love superhero books or almost superhero books, Tyler is still training. :) I would follow this series with my niece, she is always looking for good books from me to tell her about. * I received this book from the author in exchange for and honest review*
I am so surprised at myself for liking this book. This genre isn't something I usually read. This ebook was offered to me by the author and I wanted to read something different for a change. I found the writing to be above average, clear and concise. The characters and their role were well written and well defined. It was easy to picture what was going on at each stage of the story. I especially liked the main character, Tyler Thompson. I think if I were a teen or maybe even younger I would be all over this story. I have to say I am not disappointed in trying out something new.
Whether superpowers or supernatural powers, it all comes down to choice. In the war or good vs evil, there will always be winners and losers, but eternal effects created during conflicts affect the current situation based on history, myth, and legend. Prophecies predict future events and visions guide or leaders. The elders train the young as best they can within the limited experiences and attention span. Look to the youth to see the future and relish the time you have with the miracle workers around us that shower blessings like the stars and set fire to the passions of the survivors.
This is a positive interpretation thru fantasy that will not warp our youth, but enshrined the fantasy with reality.
The Mystical Blade, book 2 of the Metatron series, is even better than the first -13 year old Tyler comes into possession of more super powers and special abilities and matures greatly as he studies the writings recommended by his mentor and comes into his own. Evil plots to steal his gifts and use his powers for evil by Dr. Payne and the Black Shadow provide plenty of tension and danger. The mystery of a grandfather who's been missing for years, the goings on at Area 51, and a new character, Kelltie, with questionable loyalties, add drama and kept me on the edge of my seat. A happy, and then tragic, surprise ending involving Maxx and Tyler's family makes the reader eager for the next installment. I can't wait to read on! Once again, I appreciated the unique blend of supernatural events with angels, faith and light instead of the dark beings found in most books. Highly recommended series for middle aged readers!
Disclaimer. I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the narrator / author / publisher, in exchange for an unbiased review.
What I liked about the book - This is the second young "superhero in training" book I read last month and it's from the same publisher as the last one. And both of these book sound so much alike! Thankfully this one's story is slightly better than the other one. The "hero" in this one has certain depth to his character and makes you root for him. The short length of the story aids in finishing it quickly.
What I disliked about the book - It's just a one time listen and there's nothing memorable that will stay with you after you've finished listening.
Narration - Narration by Jeremy Basko was well done.
