S.J. Abbo is the pen name of an author who is both extraordinary and wonderfully ordinary. A dreamer, a creative soul, and an architect at heart.
Born in one country, life led her to spend her childhood and youth in another, only for her heart—much like the heroines she writes about—to guide her to a third, nestled in the rolling hills of the Balkans. There, she now lives in a small town with her husband and their three wonderful children.
With little free time to spare, she tries to devote it to her first love—reading—and, of course, writing.
A passionate lover of books, movies, good food, and people who laugh wholeheartedly, she has so far written two novels in her native language but only one is translate to English: AURORA Colt’s Light, the first book in the planned Ryders series.

My Own Journey Behind Aurora: Colt’s Light
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(but with all my heart)

Writing Aurora: Colt’s Light wasn’t just storytelling—it was survival, seduction, and soul-searching. A bit like falling in love with a story that refused to let go of me. It began in my native language, grew up through countless sleepless nights, edits, and cups of strong coffee, whispered onto pages when no one was watching—and then bravely crossed into English.

This book taught me that translating emotion is far more difficult than translating words. Every sarcastic comeback, every stolen glance, every bruised knuckle and trembling confession—needed to feel real in a different language, without losing its heartbeat.

Aurora is messy, strong, tender, smart-mouthed—and so painfully real to me. Colt… oh, Colt is all the things your mother warned you about and everything your heart aches for.

This was my first English release, and the process has been both terrifying and beautiful. But here we are.

If you’re reading this, know that I'm beyond grateful. This book means the world to me, and now, hopefully, a little piece of it will find a place in yours.

Thank you for giving Aurora and Colt a chance. You’ve just stepped into my world—and I hope you don’t leave the same.

3.5 rounded to 4.

We have Aurora who is very sarcastic and Colt who is broody. The two of them along with the rest of the main characters are high school aged so there is a lot of immature humor which fits the characters. A lot of it is funny (even if I’m shaking my head) and the progression of Aurora and Colt’s relationship is pretty cute. I personally did picture the characters, especially Colt as ages 21-25. The descriptions just don’t say teenager in my opinion. Especially since there are limited responsible adults, only Gabriela has parents active in her life so it really gives this more of college aged vibe. That and the strip club with illegal fights. Thankfully, there are a lot of reminders from Aurora of their ages.

I saw that this story was translated to English. I do not review based on grammar, especially with ARCs because sometimes those errors are caught after this stage. Even though I don’t use grammar with rating I do want to mention just in case, since this was translated TO English sometimes the wrong tense is used. I did notice quite a fee errors BUT translating is no joke. You can’t just translate word for word, you also have to account for meaning. I hope this doesn’t deter anyone from reading but I’m hoping that those of you who are picky about grammar keep an open mind that IF you find errors this is why. The errors are distracting but it didn’t keep me from understanding what was written.

Big thank you to S.J. Abbo for an ARC to read and review!

“"You didn't tell me your name." "Aurora Donovan, no middle name. We weren't rich enough when I was born, so we ran out of money for more letters.” 🤣

Aurora is truly Colts light. I really enjoyed this book! It was a roller coaster of emotions. If you enjoy enemies to lovers and witty banter definitely give this a read!

“"I hope Carlos doesn't have any plans." "Who the hell is Carlos?!" “Holy shit, can he read minds?!"
A little intoxicated not realizing she was speaking outloud 🤣

"Like branches on a tree, we grow and spread in different directions, but our roots will always keep us together." ♥️

ARC review:

This gave me serious vibes — angsty boy, strong girl, slow burn with just the right amount of chaos? Yes, please.

It’s not perfect, but I honestly didn’t care because I was hooked. I loved the banter, the whole “she tamed the beast” feel, and how protective Colt is of Aurora. It had me flipping pages like a woman possessed.

And that little peek at the end? Yeah, I’m officially invested. Emotional, addictive, and gave me feelings. Definitely ready for book two.

Thank you SJ for the ARC, this is my honest opinion.

2.5/5🌟

This book was a little bit of a struggle for me. When I first started reading it, I was very surprised that it was based around high school aged kids (18-19 yrs old). The author described the FMC and MMC in a way that made it appear they were older. The story is better suited for YA readers but it does reference some adult content.

My biggest issue with this book is the grammar. There are at least 3 characters that have their names misspelled repeatedly. There is at least one incorrect use of word on each page. Like for example: “She was still smiled, right up until she noticed that he was standing in the doorway”. There are so many instances like this and it made it hard to focus.

I first spotted this title on Book Sirens months ago, set it aside, and now it’s one of my top picks of the year!!

It perfectly blends a fierce, driven heroine with a moody, yearning hero, surrounded by side characters who feel like real people inhabiting a vivid world.

In short, it delivers everything a great read needs—strong personalities, juicy tension, and an immersive setting that pulls you right in. (I received an advance review copy for free and am sharing this review voluntarily.)

4, 5 stars

I had the opportunity to read this book in my native language a few years ago, while it was on Wattpad, and at that time this story was something completely new and refreshing on our market. This English version pleasantly surprised me because I know that it is very difficult to translate a book into another foreign language and not lose "that something" that only we who speak it can understand. I am very happy that this was not lost in this English version and that the book evokes those emotions that are felt while reading the story.

The story itself is emotional and intense and follows the life path of two young people who are fighting for their happiness in this cruel and crazy world. Although they are totally different, together they are a perfect whole that has hope, faith and sincere love.

I gave half a mark less because I can't read YA genre, probably because I have children around that age, but that doesn't mean that the book is poorly written. The book has all the recommendations from me and I hope that others will like it as well.

Wow, I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers’ books. This book had me laughing and at the same time had me sad and wanting to cry. At some parts I actually cried. I love it when the story has a strong FMC and this one was perfect. She was not afraid to fight back. The MMC was perfect. The story was easy to follow. I especially love the back and forth banter between Aurora and Colt. Love the banter throughout the story. I definitely recommend this book.
