My Boss

Rate this book
'My Boss' is the bestselling romantic comedy that will set your senses on fire. Sharp comebacks, intense emotions, enemies turning into lovers, and on top of that - the sunshine meets grumpiness trope. It'll melt your heart and have you laughing until you cry!

It is said that clothes do not make the man, yet many women in my department have a different opinion. They think my boss looks like a hunk right out of a steamy dream. He's disturbingly handsome and infuriatingly intelligent, and he always shows up to the office in an impeccably tailored suit, tie, and million-dollar watch. The perfect boss, straight from the Businessman magazine cover.
Unfortunately, these are only appearances. On my first day on the job, I realized he was a cold jerk with a calculator in place of his heart. After a week, it turned out that he was also a ruthless boss-o-bot, demanding, pedantic, and stiff as a broomstick!
I can't stand him! Or my job, for that matter! Every day, I grit my teeth and do what I'm paid to do – analyses, charts, and summaries. And what I'm not paid working overtime and cursing out my supervisor.
But I have a plan. I will hang around in this corporate business for just a few more months, put aside the money to start my own business, and then leave.
And I never want to see my boss again!
However, one icy cold and very unenchanting Christmas Eve, I discover a different side to him and must reevaluate everything I thought I knew. The only question is, did I do the right thing?

My Boss by Melissa Darwood is a romcom with the perfect amount of spice 🌶️.

Maria is a mathematical genius stuck in a corporate nightmare, but what she really wants is to renovate old furniture full-time.
She’s sharp-tongued, unfiltered, and absolutely hilarious 🤭.

Her boss, Jan, is the definition of uptight: perfectionist, cold, and yes, the type with a stick firmly up his… well, you know 😏. But is he really that bad? Spoiler: he’s not. He’s actually a full-on sex god. 🥵

The banter had me laughing out loud, the tension had me kicking my feet, and honestly, I was hooked from chapter one. If you love enemies-to-lovers with top-tier humour and some seriously hot moments, this one’s for you. 💼💋

La protagonista me pareció insensible, egocentrista y despota.

I found the female protagonist to be insensitive, egocentric, and despotic.

Great read

I like this book a lot but give a different perspective of the people we find our HEA with can be unexpected and nothing like the normal people we would date or marry.

Thanks for this book,

This was a mess right from the beginning.

The writing is as chaotic as the plot.
First she start with meeting the boss Jan on what seems to be her first day, suddenly she had been there eleven hours. Suddenly she is with HR being hired, then she goes back to the social room.

She is hired as a senior specialst, then there was this line:

You will now be the boss’s second-in-command. You must be really good since he chose you.”
Is this mafia trope or office trope?

Awful characters and awful office setting.

Maria is an annoying, dumb, stupid, disgusting, awful, lying brat and should have never made it to a fictional character but stayed in the head of the writer.

1/5⭐️

This book could use some serious editing. Jan reminds me of Dr. Shaun Murphy from the Good Doctor, and that’s a good thing! I actually enjoyed that the book represented Asperger’s Syndrome. However, the writing was a bit too choppy, with run on sentences that made it hard to follow very long chapters that never seemed to end. The chapters were also labeled poorly, which added to the confusion. And Maria, the fmc was a bit insensitive and annoying. Overall, it was a bit of a mixed bag.

DNFd at 10%. Not a good employee, not sunshine-grump, not a very likable FMC.

What’s the daily limit of embarrassing slip-ups you can make in front of your boss before you completely die of shame?
Maria proves that such a limit simply doesn’t exist.

Our FMC dreams of running her own business restoring old furniture, but to save up the money for it, she’s forced to take a job at a big corporation — where her boss happens to be the grumpiest man alive.
Not only does he have zero sense of humor, but he also piles her with so much work that Maria barely has time for her boyfriend, let alone her business plans.
When she’s finally on the verge of breaking down and ready to quit her well-paid job, one unexpected event seems to change everything.
Could Jan actually change the way Maria sees him?

“My Boss” is a truly enjoyable office romance/erotica.
The book is packed with polish humor, a sharp-tongued FMC with a knack for witty comebacks, and plenty of spicy scenes that are written without a hint of cringe.
It’s a story that entertains and draws you in from the very first pages. The author skillfully balances funny moments with emotional ones, keeping the reader fully engaged. The chemistry between the characters develops naturally and with plenty of tension.
We also get a great look into the lives of “the Aces” — portrayed in a way that feels authentic and on point.
I personally really enjoyed this book — I read it with a smile on my face from start to finish.
It’s the perfect read to lift your mood: light, funny, and just a bit fiery.
If you enjoy romances with humor, bold characters, and a touch of spice, this one’s definitely for you.

Hes on the spectrum but was written badly. Rather than coming off as endearing, he just came off irritating most of the time.

I loved this book. I loved how they included someone with Asperger’s syndrome and how they can react to situations differently than others.

Very poor writing. The FMC is very dislikeable and too much monologue in between dialogue.
Ah, and what a horrible narrator btw. You can hear her audible gasp in between sentences 🤣

Jan is handsome, intelligent, he wears suits and all the women in the office adore him... all expect Maria. She hates her boss - and she's convinced he hates her too. He's so bossy, cold, distant, a total perfectionist and sometimes even rude. He constantly makes her stay late at the office.
But one unexpected evening at work turns everything upside down.

This isn't just a typical office romance. Yeah, it's spicy and steamy, but at the same time it makes you laugh until you cry.
She's a sunshine, wild and a bit crazy (in a good way) beautiful and smart. She's great at her job, it's not something she loves, so she needs to hang with her boss a bit longer so she can save enough money to open her own business.
Jan is a 100% grumpy. He's stiff, reserved, acts like a robot and he's not a typical romantic hero we know from other books. Yes, he's specific and he has a certain "defect", but that's what makes him so compelling.

This is not just an ordinary spicy romcom. There's a deeper layer here. The author writes about a difficult topic, which is a some kind of taboo for some and unknown to others. And I think she handled it brilliantly.

So if you're looking for a steamy romance with a big dose of humor, which is also about meaningful issues, then read "My Boss" by Melissa Darwood.
You won't regret it.
