Rafe and Rowan's Story

Rowan grew up believing she was an outcast, but found her place in the world nonetheless. Or so she believed. Her unusual features attract a very unusual and attractive man when she's in a night club looking for a new sexual diversion. What she doesn't know is that this man knows more about her than she knows herself—he knows what she really is. She falls in love with him in the process of opening her eyes to the world she really belongs in. But his love may not be enough to make her stay.

Ophelia Bell is the author of the super steamy Sleeping Dragons series. Ophelia loves hot alpha heroes, especially if they’re dragons, but believes the world needs more alpha heroines, so has made it her mission to make that happen. Ophelia grew up on a rural farm in North Carolina and now lives in Los Angeles with her sexy tattooed alpha husband and five-and-a-half attention-whoring cats (one of them is exceptionally large and might actually be a dragon in disguise).

So far Rafe is the only character I liked in this series but I don’t know if he is going to stay that way be being faithful, satisfied and only with Rowan or not. If he does then he’ll be my favorite character. The sad thing is I can’t find that out because I am discontinuing this series.

After reading the shitty novel Breath of Memory, I am not going not read any other book in this series, where one partner is not enough and though they have animal in them they cannot be satisfied with their own mates and another partner or ménage. This series is nothing but porn. Yep more than 75% of the books in this series is about sex.

This was okay.

I liked the idea, and the whole aspect of finding someone just for you was a really sweet thought.
It was dragged out, and I have to say I got a bit bored.

This is to short!
Luckily there are more stories in this series and this is only an introduction.
And what kind of introduction also for the female main character not knowing she is a dragon at all.
The title is totally right, night fire, indeed it is a hot one

Fiery Desires....

Rowan has always wondered who her parents were, did they not want her because of her weirdness? Red hair, but more troubling the red eyes! She could have any man she set eyes on, but when his voice caressed her neck at the club, she was lost, but more so when she turned around and he was gone. How would she find the stranger that still had her lusting for him after a week if she knew not what he looked like?

Has Rafe found her, only to lose her after 2 nights of intense passion? Knowing her true nature so soon may have pushed her away....

I considered doing a review post for this one, but I am too lazy. Here are a few of my problems. The MC (main character) is described as such "She preferred dark places like the club because her vibrant red hair didn't stand out quite so much..." "She wore colored contacts lenses to avoid startling people with the strange, red color of her irises."
*source Night Fire by Ophelia Bell, Location 17
Of course red eyes is weird, but red hair? Not so much. The author went into describing that doctors said the hair was a genetic anomaly and also proceeded to say that her hair wouldn't take to dye. Look, I get that you want your character to be interesting, but red hair isn't some mega special thing, neither is the shade.

She also had a few redundant statements. For example, "The idea of herself as his prey excited her. She normally couldn't stand domineering men, but so far he'd never once commanded her to do anything." *source Night Fire by Ophelia Bell, Location 76
There are a few things I have to say about this statement. One, do you think that your readers are too stupid to put together that he hadn't been domineering during the conversation your characters just had? Two, what is the point of this excerpt anyway?
I am ending my rant here with, I stopped reading due to the continued mistakes withing the first fifteen pages I read. Also, because the story was following the overdone plot line of many other erotica/ romances. To me, it was boring.

A quickie

This was a nice short story about Rowan finding her self with the help of Rafe a dragon.
We also meet Kol, he and Race form their dragon societies security.
Their species is distinct and breeding is the aim!
A nice introduction to the series with a little cliffs at the end.
I will continue this series.

Nice intro to a series, you get enough of insight into the lore of the dragons to whet the appetite whilst keeping it short and sexy. The Heroine Rowan is a nice mix of sexy confidence while being completely ignorant of what she is. Good job she has Rafe to teach her.

This is just the thing to boost my 'read count' for my yearly goodreads reading challenge.

Felt like a fourth of a story.

I wouldn’t even call this a novella. It’s barely an excerpt. Feel ripped off even though this was a KU read. I hate being sucked in & having to be rest of the story hidden from me. I’m very unhappy.

A terrible ending to a terrible book. Too bad you can't give 0 stars.

Never again...

A book that's not a book

This is yet another 'book' which is really a chapter. It's only aim is to entice you to buy the series. Don't read if you hate brief, teasing cliffhangers.

Once I finished reading Animus, I had to have more of Ophelia Bell. Night Fire hit the spot. The cover promises a romance, and it does deliver. I loved where the characters met and how they met. The instant chemistry between them was palpable, leaping off the page and grabbing me. After that, I couldn't put it down.

This is a fast, delightful read with lots of steamy scenes. I don't want to give anything away, and this is a dragonshifter story, so I have to mention the how they shapshift is amazingly done. For a non-believer in humans changing into dragons, I've been sucked into the notion by Ophelia's writing.

My score of 4.9 is because I wanted to see more characterization, more of their story. I was prepared for the fast ending, however I still think this could be lengthened a tad more for a 5 star experience.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, steamy sex, and dragons.

Excellent start to the series and I can't wait to read more!! Rowan goes out looking for a partner for the night and finds Rafe an older dragon who cannot wait to show Rowan what she is, a dragon shifter. She has had no idea just that she was different and Rafe shows her everything she can do. The story is short but exciting and full of energy!! There is a cliff hanger(hate those) and the end of the story finds Rowan listening to a secret conversation between Rafe and his long time friend Kol and is confronted by them when she tells Rafe she's leaving and in the end she does no matter how much she feels for Rafe. Can't wait to read more on this series! As always Ms. Bell does not disappoint!!

This story has me by the throat...

But I absolutely HATE cliffhangers, they are too much like an addiction and with a good beginning you just crave more.

THIS was a "good beginning". But truthfully, it was way too short. I was shocked by how quickly it stopped when we only got a little taste. And that taste was merely the way they meet, from both viewpoints. That was the reason for the less than full rating it would have gotten with 'more'.

If a series of books has a hidden addiction, that means an excellent story teller. Just give us more in the little teases than just a whisper.

this is a teaser

This is definitely not a full book or even a short story so be aware of that if you’re looking for that.

I quite enjoy the foundation that is being laid out and I expect that should I decide to pick up the full book/series I will enjoy it. There’s a system that intrigues me and rules that I wanna know why they exist.

The spice level is solid but it wasn’t necessarily my cup of tea

This opening to the Rising Dragons set surprised me in a lot of ways... we just got such good writing from the start. Rowan and Rafe may be my favorite characters now, while Kor and Hallie are a close tie.

We get a lot of expansion in the world building here. And a fuller sense of the challenge to come.

[Still not for young readers. Still full of smoldering graphic sex. Still full of imagery that some will not be comfortable with.]

This was an ok book. There isn't really much to it and it kinda leaves you hangin'. It's a little interesting and creative, but it doesn't really have any meat to it. There's the encounter and some emotions, however it also just sets you up for the series (I'm assuming). I wouldn't mind reading more, but I'm not going to go searching for it. Good Luck

Rowan

Rowan believes she is a genetic anomaly, growing up in the foster care. As an adult she has a way with making excellent financial decisions and is now wealthy. Going to a bar to meat men in the same financial bracket as her, she meat Rafe. Rafe shows Risen her true identity.

What happens when Rowan discovers who and/or what she truly is? What does Rafe want with her?

Short, sexy and a little sad

The story was short, but it was enough to provoke emotion. I enjoyed the short interaction with Rowan and Rafe but I am dying for them to have a better ending. If there weren't so many books in between I would have skipped ahead to the last one lol.

This is a prequel to a series. It was way too short though! It did what was needed and introduced how the work of the story worked, but I would have loved to know more about these characters. I guess I had better get busy and read book#1!

Interesting storyline. I like this version of dragons amongst humans and their council. It was just too much sex vs story for me today. Series could be quite interesting, if that ratio drops for the later books.

Not really a book.

Seems more of a teaser sample than a book- even a first in a series. I was starting to enjoy the story; which up until the end was just starting to bloom out of dual POV lust and sex.

Ophelia Bell is becoming one of my favorite authors. She writes some great Dragon shifter stories! This one has me intrigued and wanting to read the rest of the series.

A very good intro to the series. Cliff hanger means we'll definitely see more of Rowan+Rafe so I don't mind it as much.

A short story really- lacked depth of characters. Good starts, but definitely not a standalone story. Certainly doesn't make me want to pay to read the rest of them.
