Have you ever hated someone so much you feel that burn at the pit of your stomach? That feeling right there isn't hate, it's love, its passion and everything you've been yearning most of your life. Jeyla Jenkins thought she knew what love was, but soon realises how wrong she had been once fate brought her and Dean Turner together again after four years. He hated her. She hated him. It was that simple. Since the age of five when they first laid eyes on each other Jeyla and Dean despised one another. Living across the street from each other and Jeyla being Dean's twin sisters best friend meant they had to be around each other more than they liked. However, when college was over, Jeyla and Dean's sister Ashley went off to University, and Dean enrolled to join the R.A.F to become a combat fighter, so they went their separate ways. The summer of 2006, four years later Jeyla and Dean both return home for the summer. What Jeyla didn't know was fate had other plans for her. Her biggest nemesis quickly became the love of her life. A love she never knew existed shook her to the very core. Forbidden from one another, they couldn't fight the magnetic pull; the want and need burning deep within them. She was addicted to him, like a drug she couldn't get enough of. He was besotted with her, for the first time in his life, he was in love, and he wanted her bad. Fighting their family to be together was one thing, but taking on Fate.... that...they were not prepared for. A tragic love story.
dnf @ 18% you expect me to believe they don’t recognize each other even though they grew up together and it’s only been 3 years????? im slightly deranged when it comes to books but COME ON
CAN WE JUST DISCUSS THIS DAMN BOOK. I won’t ruin it but it ends on a major cliff hanger and the sequel is still in the works with no release date so I’m unwell. I wish I would have know so I could have waited to read but also I’m so glad I read this at the same time.
THE HATE SMUT IS DEVINE. The hotel scene 🥵🌶️ I need a blessing after reading some of this ahah. And his confession near the end ugh I’m swooning. I need a Lt. Reyes in my life because yes please.
Book two better get here soon because I NEED TO KNOW.
Have been a huge fan of shaylas books from day one! I was lucky enough to have read the first copy when it was published on Wattpad. When shayla said she was revamping it I was sceptical as I loved their original story but wow this version is just 🔥🔥🔥. I love how you get the pov from the female and male character but there is something about the way shayla writes them! Her descriptions are on point my favourite that make me laugh was ‘Sodding Christ.’ I genuinely loved this book and don’t want to give away any details to anyone as I feel it ruins it but if you read this you will not be disappointed. Bring on 2023 for more of D&J ❤️❤️
To say I am lover of Shayla’s books would be an understatement, I’ve waited with baited breath for this one for MONTHS. Was this worth the wait? Abso-flipping-loutely! I can say with honesty, that I abandoned all Mum & House duties whilst reading this novel as I simply couldn’t put it down. (I wonder whether this need to be a disclaimer?) Those of you who work full time will be really happy it’s been released over the weekend!
Now I know that this has been previously published and I’ve been so jealous of those who had previously read this, but when I got my hands on a sweet ARC copy of this one I could not wait to set aside a day or so to read this gem of a book. Jeyla & Dean absolutely set my Kindle on FIRE! For those who are new to Shayla’s books, let me tell you nobody does the spice as spicy as she does…..and believe me I read a lot of spicy romance stories.
However behind this is a beautiful collision course of love, hate & a lot of slow burning romance but fast acting lust and is all worth it, I dare you not to clutch at your imaginary pearls or like I did shout ‘oh my god’ when you hit Chapter 24….anything else would need a spoiler alert on the review and there’s nothing worse than a spoiler review. The last couple of pages will also make you cry out not caring who is in the room with you whilst you shout at your Kindle in earnest. (I swear my 11yo & 4yo boys think their Mama is a little bit loco shouting ‘no’ at their Kindle)
Those who choose to buy this book, I promise you, you will not be disappointed. The only disappointment you will get is when it’s all over and want even more of Jeyla & Dean’s story, which I’m sure we will all be sat in anticipation for the next one…..
This is another one of those books that I saw multiple reels on Instagram and had to check it out myself. First let's talk about the two main characters. The female who has a weird name, I feel like she has a lot going on. She grew up while away for college with her friend. Okay, that seems like it could happen. But man does this girl got on my nerves. I somehow pictured her voice very whiny like in my head and felt like she whined a lot. I felt like she had nothing going on for her and really needed more from her. The middle of the book I tended to like her better. Now the boy in this book, I hated him at the very beginning but then I grew to really like him. I loved his personality in this book. Okay this plot just felt really off to me. I had a hard time buying the whole they didn't know who each other were because they changed so much while apart. I mean come on you two grew up together and spend time daily in the same house. How could you not figure it out. Also the plot just felt flat to me. Don't get me wrong there was a lot of humor and smut galore through this book but it was lacking. The cliffhanger at the end was interesting and I still can't find the next book. So not even sure if the author wrote a second book. All in all if you want a good smut this book is great. But if you need a good story-line maybe you might pass this by.
What can I say but wow. Shayla had out done herself again and again with the books she puts out!!! Absolutely love the work she has done. When love and hate collide is a great book. It has a bunch of raw emotions feelings and so many twists that you wouldn’t expect. And a cliffhanger that will keep you wanting more !!Now to the juicy side of the review. If you don’t like spoilers don’t keep reading!!! * * * * * * * * * * *
The car scene when Ash called Jey I was waiting for the shoe to drop and Dean head his sisters voice in that phone call!!! Then for them to realize who each other was at Oz birthday party magnificent!! As I was reading I was thinking that they would figure it out by either Oz or Ash finding them kissing! All the tension between the too and then finding out about the baby just drags you in more. But I need to know what happens to Jey and the baby!! Poor Dean having to see his girl get hit by the car is so saddening and then to add their unborn child into the mix!!! Cannot wait to get the knowledge of Jey’s state!!!

Okay I had to take a few days to digest that ending before I could even contemplate writing a review! Oh this book, absolutely phenomenal. I honestly don’t think there is one part or negative thing I can say about it. Jeyla and Dean have despised each other for as long as they both can remember , even though the two families are neighbors an best friends! They have just never seen eye to eye! After graduation Jeyla moves away to college with her best friend Ashlyn (Deans twin) and Dean joins the air force an moves away. Out of each others lives for good! Or so they thought 😜 Ashlyn an Jeyla went home for summer break after a long two years of not being home. After a night out Jey meets a mystery man and spends an exhilarating night with him, a one night stand; not even exchanging names or numbers. But they keep on running into each other- an both feel something *familar* about the other but can’t quite put there finger on what or why! When they are all out for Ashlyn’s older brothers birthday party , they run into each other AGAIN, an that’s when they finally figure out the true identity of one another! In shock, an disgust finding out, they try to go back to their normal picking and arguing with each other , but they can’t lie to themselves, the feelings are still there, an deep! Worst part, Ashlyn has no clue! An has let it known, she would never want Jey or any of her girlfriends with either one of her brothers!
No denying the chemistry between the two in the bedroom, freaking hot 🥵 like had me stripping down to my bra. Add in the suspension of them getting it on an not knowing they are actually enemies! CRAZY! I was eating it up, flying through the pages! Then, another big bombshell is dropped, an holy hell! Plus the cliffy, omg I screamed an cried an was so upset! Over all it was such a pulsating and exciting, hot & steamy read! I love Shaylas writing, it’s so easy to read an just get totally sucked into the story an forget about everything else in the world at the time! I cannot wait for book 2, no doubt Shayla will once again captivate and blow our minds! Countdown is on!
I received an Arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! These opinions are 100% all my own!
Sweet Lord.. This book was an absolute roller coaster that will take your emotions for a hella ride! I was sitting, then I was standing, then I was pacing. The characters have a way of making you feeling so many emotions for and with them. If you are looking for a book that will have you hating & loving the characters (title really fits) then look no further. You will be cheering them on, then the next page you will be cursing one or both characters. Overall, I would certainly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun, emotional, and drama filled book! I had a great time with this.
Holy cow!! Dean and Jeyla! Their sexual chemistry is off the charts!! "Hating each other the way we do has always been our foreplay, hasn't baby?" 🔥
This is not your typical enemies to lovers and I love that. We get to see how Dean and Jeyla are together, their chemistry and dynamic of what could be. Only to then get it ripped from us.
Knowing each other since they were kids, Dean and Jeyla have always been at each other's throats. Between the pranks, name calling and childish antics there was never anything but resentment between them. That is, until they experience the other side of hate. "Is it possible to hate someone but still want to fuck them?" -Dean
This was a great book! It does end in a cliffhanger and I CANNOT WAIT to see what happens in the next book. There's definitely a VERY thin line between love and hate. Especially when love leads to more...
DUDE WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ENDING?!!! I liked the story, the banter got a bit too much in the middle but overall I enjoyed. Back to my first point though of WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ENDING?!!!!!!!
OH. MY. GOD. 😭🔥 Where do I even begin with this book??? 😩✨ *Love and Hate Collide* was an **emotional rollercoaster** 🎢💔 and I swear I’m STILL not okay 😵💫💥 Like, how can two people be so INFURIATINGLY PERFECT for each other ❤️ and also make me want to scream into a pillow every other chapter??? 😤🫠💘
First of all—Dean Reyes. 👀 **DEAN. FREAKING. REYES.** 💓 The literal bane of the main character’s existence 😈💢 and also, somehow, the man who completely shattered and rebuilt her 🧩🥺 in the most raw, beautiful way possible 💞🌪️
And their dynamic?? 😳🔥 WHEW. 🫣 The **angst**, the **tension** 😩💢, the *hurling insults one second and ripping each other’s clothes off the next*??? 😳🫦💥 It was SO. DELICIOUS. 😍🥵
From that first heartbreak at five years old 😢👶 to the years of mutual loathing and bickering 🧨, to that *blistering summer of 2004* 🏖️🔥—I couldn’t look away 👀📖 Every time they were on the page together, I swear my Kindle got warmer 🔥📱
And let’s talk about the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE 💔😭💢 They were both carrying so much pain 😞🪫, pride 🧱, and unresolved childhood wounds 🥺🧸 Watching them unravel each other while trying (and failing) to stay away 🫠😣 was so, so beautiful 🌸💫
The journey wasn’t easy 💥💣—there were fights 🥊, secrets 🕵️, and so many moments where I was like, “JUST KISS ALREADY!!” 😩💋 but also “NO DON’T KISS THIS IS SO MESSY!!” 🚫💀💔
But in the end… oh my heart 🥹💘 **THEY MADE IT.** 💍💖 Against all odds 🛑⛈️, all the hate, the misunderstandings 🧠💢, the heartbreak… they came out stronger 🫶🩷
It wasn’t just about passion 💋🔥—it was healing 🧘♀️🌿, growing 🌱✨, and finally *choosing* each other despite everything ❤️🩹💞
It felt like soulmates who had to go through fire to find each other 🔥💑 Ugh, I LIVED for it 😍💀💕
If you love enemies-to-lovers 🤬➡️❤️, forced proximity 🛏️🏠, fiery banter 💥🗣️, hidden pining 🥺🔐, and the kind of romance that absolutely wrecks you 💔😭 then glues you back together with glitter and tears ✨🧷🌈… READ THIS BOOK 📚‼️
**Angsty, passionate, heartbreaking, and healing** 🖤🔥💧💞 **This is what happens when love and hate truly collide** ⚔️❤️🔥
Now excuse me while I go cry and hug this book forever 😭📖🫂
There were definitely some grammar issues here (tense changes within paragraphs, missing words, commas in the wrong place, no commas where they were needed, etc.) but I'm willing to look past them because the plot was so darn good.
My favorite trope, enemies-to-lovers, was thrown on its head when the two first got together, and honestly, I was like, when does the hate sex start, because really, that's why I'm here. Then it finally started, and oh boy! It was epic.
I found the writing a bit too "flowery," like the author felt the need to throw in extra descriptive words. "Rolling my eyes playfully," "I jeer impishly," "I shake my head sullenly," "I grin coquettishly," "My mind fleetingly wanders," "I answer boldly," "I iterate wryly," "I laugh heartily," "He mocks playfully." After a while, I was rolling my eyes (annoyingly) because it got frustrating. All of the extra descriptives are unnecessary and signal juvenile writing.
I was surprised by the cliffhanger, as it was not described in the blurb at all (and I was reading this based strictly on someone's recommendation of the hate sex scenes, so hadn't read any reviews). Just when I think we're heading to the final resolution and the end of the book, bam! Big old cliffy. Annoying as hell, because I prefer to wait until all the books in a series are out before I read the first one. But I guess that's on me for not reading some reviews beforehand.
I will definitely read the next one when it comes out, because I need to know what happens next for this couple.
This is my first book of Shaylas. I was not disappointed.
Jeyla and Dean. Two lifelong enemies. Returning home for the summer. Hoping their paths don't cross, fueling the fires within.
A night at a bar leads Jeyla to meet a beautiful stranger. Sweeping her off her feet. Telling her all the things she longs to hear. With one thing leading to another, things become heated and fast.
With each night that passes, the two find themselves in eachothers wake. Falling deeper and deeper for the stranger whose name is yet to be learnt.
Until the truth is revealed and identities are discovered. The childish bickering, hatred, and arguing begins.
Except it's not all hatred and arguing. Its lust and undeniable wanting between the two. The jealousy when someone else pays them attention. The fear of losing the one that gives them the thrill.
To a holiday away filled with steamy exchanges. Hiding their feelings from the rest of their friends/family. Trying their best not to ruin a good week away. Through the illness Jeyla feels, to the care and protective behaviour by Dean.
The two are confused beyond words. Fighting feelings of hate, lust and undeniable wanting. With every time they push away. They're pulled closer together.
Until it becomes too much. It takes almost losing her for Dean to express his feelings. Wanting her for his own. Staking his claim over a heart he's wanted for so long.
This was an enjoyable romance that isn’t your average enemies to lovers trope.
Rating: 4.5/5 Spice: 3.5/5 - A number of smutty scenes and dirty talk that I loved. Some of the scenes could have been a bit more descriptive.
Pros: - Features both enemies to lovers (with a twist) and best friend’s brother/known each other since kids/forbidden love tropes. - It was really easy for me to get into this book and it captivated me so much I didn’t want to put it down. I liked that while it had plenty of conflict, it wasn’t one of those slow burns of a drawn out will they or won’t they. - Will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. The perfect book when you want a romance book that features plenty of angst while still making you laugh and smile at sweet moments. Cons: - I don’t mind reading series so this wasn’t a real con to me, but I know some readers don’t care for cliffhangers. This book does end in a pretty major cliffhanger that is certainly not even remotely close to a HFN and I’m counting down the days until the second book comes out.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book that I received as an ARC. I’ve read most of Shayla Hart’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. This one is certainly no exception and I binge read it over 24 hours because I just couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what happens in the second book!
After my first book from Shayla, i knew i found my new auto-buy author. This story is full of spice, tension, emotions, heartbreak, laughter. The first part is like a fairy tale, so sweet i couldn’t stop smiling, everything was so perfect, until...After i thought the i loved when i’ve already read, then came the hate part. Oh my.., I love a good haters to lovers romance, and it was one of the best. Their feeling rooted in their childhood. The spice?! Perfect!
Is it spring yet? I can’t wait, i need more and i hate to know what happened. I have scenarios in my mind, but i need facts. Highly recommend this book!
Themes to expect: - strangers to lovers to haters to lovers - secret relationship - best friends brother - POV: dual - he falls first - love triangle(ish) - cliffy
Quotes:
“Take me tot he stars, Lieutentant.” “Yes, ma’am.”
“I’m not losing you tonight or any other night for that matter.”
“I hope you taste as good as you look, sweetheart, because I’m starving.”
“Jeyla Jenkins is the drug I never knew I needed, and now I’ve gotten a taste of her I can’t give her up.”
“I can hate you and still want to take care of you. JJ.”
This book is the definition of enemies to lovers! They HATE HATE each other, (with a twist) and the insults are just going back and forth, and don’t let me talk about the heat or the tension. I went into this story blind and tbh I didn’t expect much, but oh my goodness was I in for a surprise. I low key thought it would be one of those reads where you just skim through the pages or skip a couple of paragraphs here and there. Boy was I wrong!
The hate The heat The tension The spice This book deserves so much hype
Dean… what a filthy filthy mouth you’ve got on you MMMMmmmMMMMMM
Jayla… snappy, flirty, witty, also a little dirty… Oooooooohhhhhhhhhh
I fucking love how much I enjoyed this book.
My only complaint was that I wish I had known that this book end on THE BIGGEST CLIFFHANGER EVERRR and the second book isn’t out yet So I wish I had waited just to put myself out of this misery.
It was obvious that Jeyla and Dean couldn't stand each other because they wanted each other. Unfortunately, it wasn't obvious to them. The s3xual tension between the two of them was raw, and angsty. Add in the fact that Dean is the twin brother of Jeyla's best friend and the fact that neither want her to find out makes this an angsty enemies to lover romance. Everyone was used to Dean and Jeyla arguing and being mean to each other since that's all they've been doing since they were children.
Sneaking around and keeping secrets from those they love makes this a complicated relationship for Dean and Jeyla especially after they realize the depth of their feelings for one another. It's time for confess and make their relationship public. What will happen once their secrets are revealed? Will Jeyla lose her best friend or gain a sister after everything is out in the open?
Tropes: Best Friends Brother/ Enemies to Lovers/ Steamy Hate/ Forbidden Love
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you need one more book to close in 2022 read When Love & Hate Collide! I ended 2021 reading Shaylas book and ending this year the same.
OR if you’re wrapping up putting Christmas presents together, take a break and read this and you’ll be glad you did 😉
Enemies to Lovers might be my go to trope and this definitely didn’t disappoint and kept me on my toes. Shayla has a way with writing that makes you feel as if you’re the main character. I don’t want to say too much but hurry and read since book two will be coming!
••• I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review•••
Tropes: Childhood Enemies to lovers, Surprise Pregnancy, Sisters best friend/Best friends twin brother
Feelings: 🤣😍🥵
Favorite quote(s): “Make a mistake once and it becomes a lesson, repeat that mistake a second time and it becomes a choice, JJ.” - Dean
I had way too many favorite scenes in this book, it brought surprise, from how Shayla Hart started the book with the dual pov’s on meeting a mystery woman/guy in the bar and gradually gets the reader to see that things aren’t adding up and they are with their childhood enemy 🤣 …. When I got to the end of this book I thought it was going to be a stand-alone but then I find out that it’s not and I just want to cry with having to wait for the next book…but I’m craving the next book to know what happens and if Jeyla is okay 😭

Jeyla and Dean have known each other for years and absolutely despised each other that entire time as well. This is an enemies to lovers with a twist. When these two meet back up, they don't recognize each other and start to hook up. Once they figure it out, they keep going. What happens when Dean's twin, Jeyla's best friend, finds out. Read and see. Be warned, book ends with cliffhanger but more books are to come.
When Love & Hate Collide from Shayla Hart was a very hot, steamy read. Dean and Jeyla have known and hated each other for 17 years but after 4 years for not seeing each other they unknowingly meet at a club and start a sordid little affair that burns hot. When they finally figure out who they are they just can’t keep away. Unfortunately life has a funny way to show them how they are so (not) meant to be.
The book hangover I have from this book… I need book 2 already. The emotional rollercoaster this book took me on- happy, sad, laughing, crying, back to mad. This author knew exactly what she was doing and she did it well!!!
The teddy bear ohhhh the teddy bear… the love he has for JJ he finally couldn’t fight anymore. And then tragedy just slapped us all in the face. I am on pins and needles waiting for book 2!!!
Oh my goodness i couldnt have asked for a better book. I read it all in one day i just couldnt stop! This book connects with your emotions and boy was it a rollar coaster for me. This is by far the best so far from shayla hart, you wont be disappointed i know i wasnt. But the cliffhanger killed me i need more i dont know if i can wait until spring!!
Shayla you never disappoint me.. what a rollercoaster of a book this has been, I honestly couldn’t put it down. That ending?! When Love & Hate Collide is the perfect mix of spice and drama. My mind is blown, fingers crossed for a quick release with book 2 because that cliffhanger was something else. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Loved the storyline it's more than just a spicy read. The chemistry between these two is everything! The spice is on point, and the romance will have staying up late to finish the book. I've read hundreds of books this year, and Shayla's has always been a longstanding favorite of mine.
Wow wow wow!!! What another fantastic book, I only purchased this tonight and I’ve stayed up till after midnight to finish it Shayla has amazed me again. I love Jeyla and Dean their story just had me hooked and that cliffhanger, I need to know if they’re both okay!! Cannot wait for part two, Thank you Shayla.

I felt like I was going to rate this 5 stars for the first 80% of the book and then I don't know what happened. I didn't like the ending. I felt like it was rushed and sloppy. But I really liked it until then. Looking forward to reading the next book. Hopefully it will get my interest back up.
damn this book! I loved it, I went into it not thinking much of it but oh my goodness I need more. The love, hate, banter, the chemistry between dean and Jeyla is just agonisingly gorgeous. A few twists in there I wasn’t expecting and the ending, what the hell!!!! I need so much more, book two can’t come soon enough!!!!!
