I really wanted to enjoy this one, but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.
The premise sounded like something I’d normally enjoy: college romance, rival quarterbacks, ex-boyfriend drama and an enemies-to-lovers storyline. On paper, it had all the ingredients of a book I should have loved.
My biggest issue was that everything felt far too rushed. The romance developed incredibly quickly and I never really bought into the connection between the characters. It felt like he fell first and then suddenly they were together before I’d had a chance to become invested in them.
There were other plotlines starting to develop in the background, including what looked like a stalking storyline, and normally that would have been enough to keep me reading. Unfortunately, by the time those elements started appearing, I’d already lost interest in the characters and the romance.
I don’t know if part of the problem was that I’d read several contemporary romances back-to-back before picking this up, but this felt like the book that finally tipped me over the edge. Reading it became a chore rather than something I was looking forward to, and eventually I decided it was time to DNF.
It wasn’t necessarily bad, I was just bored, and that’s probably the worst thing a book can be.
The best years of their lives. Off to college and on your own for the first time and all that that entails. A sweet story about a girl and her best friend making the college dance team and becoming roommates. They make new friends. Face new challenges. Reevaluate their hopes, dreams and priorities. There are new things they never imagined they would have to confront. And old things to hold onto. Or to let go. Some of the challenges they face are predictable, while others are a complete surprise. As expected there is plenty of football, beer and more than enough tutoring.
