Well, we meet again. Over a review of this excellent authors books. This book picks up where The Alpha Plague left off. Rhys heading back to Summit City to save his sons Mom. And that is about all the spoiling I will do. This book flowed smoothly along. With much creepy goodness. If you are afraid of darkness, tight spaces. you will love this book. I hate both of them so was hard to read while closing my eyes. :) It is a fast read as you get so involved with it, you don't notice time marching along till daylight breaks and you are going...uh oh. Yes I did that. Michael Robertson is an author for those who don't want unicorns and puppies and everyone sitting in a circle singing. Life isn't like that and an apocalypse damn well isn't like that. Grab this, some hot tea, snuggle down and begin. Can't wait for the 3rd book.

It's such a great storyline
Michael Robertson just becomes better and better, each story more masterful. He's got a unique take on the "zombie" apocalypse, the ideas of how it gets out to how to stay alive are pretty intense, he does not play nice with his characters, rather he lets the story take him where it wants to go. I think you will truly enjoy this, as well as Alpha Plague, and his many other stories and books!

Reading the 2nd book of the Alpha Plague where Rhys decides to re-enter Summit city to look for Larissa, his son's mother, and Dave his best friend is like riding on a roller coaster and not taking a breath till the ride comes to a dead stop! Rhys decides to trust a complete stranger, Vicky, to look out for his son Flynn when he goes back to the hell which Summit city, the bastion of commerce now turned into a nightmare has become with all the zombies in search of more humans to chew up and turn. Rhys acts as a real idiot at times, trusting everyone and wanting to do right by everyone even at the risk of losing all he had gained, ie his son and Vicky! He drives the reader crazy through frustration but his intentions are good. The ideas about the Government, Democracy, Terrorism and keeping citizens so afraid they are ready to accept anything in order to feel protected rings such a bell in the west's reality today! And to top it all, Ughhh the ending after all the tension building is enough to drive the reader crazy! So on to book 3 asap and i do hope, Michael Robertson, you will give us a chance to breath in this next book!!!

More fantastical leaps of convenience in a futuristic city that for some reason fluctuates wildly between being very futuristic and being plainly modern day. Extremely hard to believe that someone who was physically exhausted by the end of the first book would return the same day to the same city that he barely managed to escape from and run this gauntlet a second time so that he would save "everyone" from certain death. Especially to save the woman he had spent so much of the first book hating on, all because his own son doesn't reciprocate his feelings for him? All that with the added intrigue of spies! Neat, huh? ...Not really.
Sorry, this book was one suspended leap of disbelief too far with its convenient escapes and amazing feats of ingenuity for a character who is badly out of shape, admittedly not very bright and not at all likable to begin with.
Safe to say I won't be returning to this series.

I am addicted to post apocalyptic stories, zombies, pretty much anything gory and gross with some unrealistic situations but enough of the truth to keep me up a bit at night... thanks for the fun!

I read this as party of The Alpha Plague #1-8 bundle
I don't know why the cliffhanger from book 1 is okay but this cliffhanger irritated me. This man is acting irrationally. It was time to get out of town when you got your son. He'd get over it! 3 stars

Alpha Plague 2 starts just where Alpha Plague 1 ended. Rhys heads back to Summit City to try to rescue his ex-wife and best friend. He finds some help when he runs into Oscar, a guy with an axe who knows how to use it. He and Oscar run back to the city, pretty much encountering everything he and Vicky did when they ran out of the city. Oscar says some things that make Rhys nervous, but he needs the help so he puts his worry aside for a while.
Once again, it is a non-stop adventure. Oscar makes fun of Rhys for being out-of-shape, but he doesn't know Rhys already did all that running once already. They do find some bikes, which helps them move faster, which is good because Rhys goes to the buildings where his ex-wife and best friend are to tell them what he's about to do. This complex and the buildings were described as huge, but somehow he finds the right buildings and makes contact with the people he's looking for.
Then he heads to Alpha Tower to open the buildings so all the people can get out. Of course, this will result in panic and with the zombies turning thousands more people into zombies, but Rhys just knows his wife and friend will get out. Alpha Tower is where the virus started, but there aren't many zombies for Rhys and Oscar to kill before they reach the control room. Rhys becomes more and more suspicious of Oscar and locks him in an empty room. Then he opens up all the buildings and makes sure the city will incinerate itself so the zombie plague will be contained.
Oscar gets extremely angry with Rhys and we find out he is not who said he was. Neither is Vicky, which sends Rhys into a panic because she is supposedly keeping his son safe. Rhys leaves in a hurry to meet up with his ex-wife and friend and his second escape from the city is just as action-filled as the first. There is an amazing scene of he and his friend escaping using the tunnels and lots of water to drown the zombies, and, of course, lots and lots of running. I think Rhys is only standing because of his determination to get back to his son.
Rhys gets out just as the city starts to burn to find that Vicky and his son are gone and the car they were in is filled with blood. So we're left with questions:
1. Where is his son?
2. Who are Vicky and Oscar and why have they done these things?
3. Has the zombie virus been contained?
4. Is Rhys going to have a heart attack?
Again, I found this to be a great zombie story. They are menacing and Rhys and Oscar come up with some ingenious ways of getting away from them. However, I also found many things to be improbable about the whole story. How does Rhys--one person--get through the entire city, see his ex-wife, see his best friend, kill some zombies, get to Alpha Tower, and open all the buildings by himself? Why isn't there any help? Surely people outside Summit City would be wondering why they lost contact with all the people inside Summit City and some help would have been sent, wouldn't it? This place is the entire government of England. No one noticed it's not working anymore?
How does one guy (and Oscar) get through the entire city that is filled with thousands of zombies? There are just some things that don't make sense, so I'm going to take the rating down a notch again. These are the first books I have read by this author. For all I know, this is his style of writing, but I don't know, and I just think there are a lot of plot holes.
The book is good. Don't get me wrong. There are just times you may stop and go, "What? He's really doing that?" Maybe some of it will be explained in the next book.

Can't put it down
Not just another zombie apocalypse, this is a great series. My only complaint is that I am losing so much sleep trying to find out what happens next.

This picks up where the first one left us, with Rhys and Vicki having just rescued Flynn.
However, Flynn wants his Mummy, and it is at this point that Rhys realises that his ex, Larissa, as well as some of his other friends, are still trapped in Summit city.
This leads to the plot of Alpha Plague 2, Rhys making the decision to plunge back into the heart of the diseased ridden city and rescue them. To do this, he has to reach ground zero of the disease, the Alpha building, to release the people from the other buildings.
Alpha Plague 2 is a multi-faceted story, one of pure determination, the strength of family, the political workings of Governments with too much power, the results of biological testing and just to lighten the mood every now and then, a case of sheer human stupidity worthy of a Darwin Award.
The story follows Rhys’ harrowing trail back into the city, as he encounters not just the diseased, but a rather out of place individual called Oscar, who apparently wants to rescue someone also. What follows are pages of intense thrilling action, a cross between the Walking Dead and World War Z the Movie.
Robertson has created some brilliant main characters, but not just Rhys, Vicki, Oscar etc, but the diseased as well. These incredible creatures that were once living humans that are now plague ridden monsters, something that is from a Zombie induced nightmare. Lightning fast, with the only thought to kill, able to take incredible damage until brain death, clumsy, and yet freakishly strong, and worst of all, they seem to have a sense of intelligence, a sense of empathy.
Robertson has also created a unique and fascinating background in which his story plays out, a world of political intrigue, in which new cold wars are at play, with terrifying consequences.
One of the great things about this book, is that you sit and read it, and then think about what you might do in similar situations, the characters are so normal, so realistic, that you get drawn into the story so easily. By using characters that are so ‘real’, Robertson is able to drop you into the story, what would you do in that situation, how would you react, because as you read, you feel engaged with the characters. It makes this an incredible read, and a real page turner, you get connected to the characters, wanting to know what is going to happen next?
Alpha Plague 1 was excellent, but this series just keep getting better, if you are a fan of Character driven work like the Walking Dead, the speed of World War Z, or the gritty nuances of What We Left Behind, then this is definitely for you!!

Fun book
I read this book, still hoping that the main character would get his face eaten. Not because he's evil but because he's slow, stupid, not very smart and runs his mouth.
These two novels cover one day between them, so he's not had a chance to stop and think but his decision making is so poor that I'm rooting for the zombies. The book is entertaining. I have to read book 3 next.

Another fantastic entry to a brilliant series!
Rhy's spends most of this book trying to be a hero!
Absolutely riveting.
"Rhys looked at the crowd in front again. As if inspired by the furious mob behind, they set the air alight with their screams and ran straight at him."
The zombies are relentless, it's non stop action from start to end and an absolute joy to read.
Another book down in no time at all.
On to the next :)

Fantastic pace and an unlikely protagonist
The alpha plague has been a very nice surprise. A bit pudgy mid-30s bloke finds himself in the center of a Zombie Plague. He has to rescue his ex-wife before the city Burns. Both books 1 and 2 are written in a Relentless pace that will keep you turning the pages. I highly recommend the series.

Book 2 seemed to have a little more action. Rhys got to zflynn and he and Vicki were ready to try to leave but Flynn wanted his Mommy. So Arby’s goes back into the horrors he just left to try and find Larissa. You will have to read it yourself to see what happens next, but you need to read book 1 first. I will be starting on Book 3 next.

Great sequel Rhys has to re-enter the city to try and reach the Alpha tower and release the shutters so he can free his ex-wife and bring her out of the city for his son. What follows is a rollercoaster ride of tense action and discovery. Definitely recommend this book I'm going to read the complete series.

I did really enjoy the second part to this exciting, well written, zombie adventure! A strong male character trying to save his son with a very able female character helping him, which proves to be a great balance in this fast paced story! Great plot & character development, a few near misses, good heart pounding stuff! I do recommend & I will read the next part for sure!

The Alpha Plague 2 is a great continuation of the series. The MMC, Rhys, is forced to make some very difficult decisions to reach his target. These choices lead him through hellish nightmare inducing events! I highly recommend the series but do yourself a kindness and begin with book 1.

I enjoyed the second book as much as the first. I was sitting there after the second one thinking about how fast paced the book seems but in two books , not even a day has passed. I'm looking forward to the third book.

I have the box set, so just wanted to say that book two of the series follows straight from bok one and is just as fast-paced with plenty of action.
Rhys seems to be a little more grown-up in this one and the mystery of who could be who is interesting...who to trust?
Recommended.

I am not disappointed in book 2. Rhys found his son, but returns to help his Sons mother and best friend Dave escape the city. Rhys helps many survive along the way. He tries to do the right thing even putting his own safety in jeopardy. The best word to describe this book is RUN!!!!

Like book 1, this book is a little high on what I call the outlandish scale. However, I can overlook that because it is such a fast paced and fun read. Plus a surprise at the end has me looking forward to book 3!!

Fast Paced Action Continuously
Absolutely loving this series so far. No time to take a breathe with this one. The race to escape the island was jam packed with twists and adrenaline rushes. Can’t wait to see what else unfolds for this series!

Well. Our main guy realizes that he is not Bruce Willis. But, he is on his way. The book has many twists and turns I am enjoying my self immensely.

This 2ns in series book was ok, bit longer than it needed to be but still held my interest - on now to book 3.
