I knew that Juwaan's story would be the one that wrecked me. Learning of all that he went through before he even encountered the Gardner's was enough to make me shed tears. But after that heifer Rema got to that child...... Ughhh....😤🤬 I had to remember that this was a fictional character, the way I wanted to lay hands on her! No wonder Juwaan hid behind jokes, and was having such a hard time watching his brothers move on. He needed them as they were his lifeline! The trauma, and guilt was eating him alive, and he wasn't sure that he wanted to continue on. But God!

Zurmani was sitting in grief after her loss, and didn't know how to deal with it. Going back to the place of pain seemed like the odd thing to do, but it was that exact place that would bring her joy.

Juwaan and Zurmani meeting seemed random but was destined. Their chemistry clear from the moment their eyes met. When they both were connected to the same area to volunteer, it sealed the deal. Juwaan's methods were a bit unorthodox to get Zurmani's attention, but he knew that she was it. He needed her to keep eyes on him, and he would do the rest. They fit so well together. Filling in the empty spaces where the other needed support.

I enjoyed the story for the most part, however, parts of the story felt rushed. Juwaan was so close to Kyce and Kayshon. Why didn't he ever tell them why he created the distance? Tell them about the things that happened in that house that haunted him. If anyone would understand they would. Why didn't Juwaan continue going to therapy to allow Dr. Leticia to help him work through his pain? Why wasn't he completely truthful with Zurmani about everything that happened to him? I'm glad Kema got her karma, but dam, that seemed to come out of nowhere! Then the possible connection with Jamaica. Enjoyed the series, just wished this one was longer so we could have gone into more depth of Juwaan's pain. There was so much to unpack, and it felt like we were just left hanging.

I just felt like this one was rushed we built up connections to each of the brothers but besides the first story I feel like none of the brothers actually did the work. Like yes he started therapy but he wasn’t open and honest enough for my taste. I know everyone copes different but the jokes and the attempts to laugh off his pain left me wanting more. In the first book you really and truly felt for the eldest brother, in this one it was just kinda lack luster lack of communication between him and the brothers he was codependent in the first two books now he just doing everything on his own fine and dandy? Remas death was lackluster and felt like her making it through all three books to end like that BOOOOO 🗣🗣🗣. Idk the religious messages started to feel less authentic to me here and more like forced preaching. I don’t mind appreciation for the lord but I need it to feel heartfelt and genuine in here it just felt like oh Pastor is locked in he gets messages from the lord here’s some scriptures and quotes. When we needed to learn more about the 2 main characters and maybe a slower more steady trip into love

i enjoyed this series. The beginning didn't start like I thought that it would, and the near ending & end was a surprise too.
Jawaan went through so much in his young years, more than his brothers. I understand why he was so traumatized as he began revealing to his therapist. The sh** they encountered, no child should ever have to endure.

Jawaan was that guy when he concentrated on healing after his bought of depression. Also, getting the woman of his dreams at a chance meeting. He was hilarious as he claimed his soon to be wife 2x's and other scenes.
I was glad for some of the lightness to shine through.

I loved Zurmani as well. A strong woman, as she pulled herself together from a horrible ex and a devastating tragedy.

What a blessing they received from the mother of a newborn whom they helped cuddle with the kangaroo method. This was an emotional scene. These two deserved healing, love, and happiness.

The spiritual scriptures were an added bonus for me. God is the center of everything, as a reminder to all. The writing and ideas flowed smoothly across the pages for me. I liked the focus being on Zurmani and Jawaan.

Great Read!

Counting his heartbeats

This series took me through it. I truly enjoyed this series from beginning to end. Jawaan, Kyce and Kayshon went through so much and it is by the grace of God that they are still here and being loved on by women who were able to stand in the gap for them and also show them true agape love.

I was happy to see Jawaan start therapy and also speak on his trauma so it no longer controlled him. He may not have told Zurmani all the sordid details of his past, but he was able to get it out to someone and was able to recognize God’s voice in his time of need.

I had a feeling that Jawaan’s story would be more emotional since he was last and I was not wrong. To learn of all he went through in his first seven years of life and then to be placed in the home with sickos like Rema and Humphrey had me near tears. The depravity that these boys went through in this house is unfathomable and I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

I loved Zurmani for Jawaan and him for her. They were both in need of healing for various reasons and they found that and bonded in a way that could not have been predicted. I truly loved their connection and love for each other. I loved that she prayed for him and I loved their spiritual walk together.

This was a great ending to the series and I would definitely recommend but also caution you to take care of your mental and heed the trigger warnings because there are parts of this story and this series as a whole that can be extremely difficult to get through. 4.5/5 stars

Jawaan Jawaan I now know why he was so clingy to his brothers and mother figure because he was kidnapped by one set of parents then snatched back to bio parents then they abandoned him said they never wanted to see him or acknowledge they had a son because he was a kid that need help to understand his new investment and counseling to help understand who his true parents are.then he ends up in a environment that was not good with people that sexually assault the teenage boys in their care . I understand how in the first books he thought his brother were going to abandoned him because they have new women in their lives.Enter Zurmani who has been though a lot with the boyfriend for four years that gave her a std and then she ended up have a miscarriage for a baby. She didn’t know she had and that took an emotional toll on her but her brother brought her back Z . They ended up together in the hospital and became like kangaroo parents to this beautiful premature baby boy and his mother end up putting their name on a birth certificate to become his parents because she didn’t have that much time to live and his father didn’t want to notice him being born. They come together and raise their son together with family and it was a great story and series that came together and 10/10 recommended you read the series

Trigger Warning Needs to be adjusted. DNF

I couldn’t finish the book. The trigger warning needs to be adjusted. The author has statutory rape and child trauma. When the person involved is a 10 year old child and the other person is a grown woman that’s child molestation and that’s the difference. Please note this accordingly in your books. Also, to have a 7 year old child saying a grown woman is fine is ludicrous. I couldn’t finish reading due to this. There’s a difference between statutory rape and child molestation.

felt incomplete

Hm. In the beginning i thought this book had so much potential but then it seemed rushed towards the end.

What happened to aldis constantly hitting her up? Did that just stop randomly?

What started jawaans spiral and self alienation from his family?

Why introduce the audience to the fact that Jamaica and jawaan are related if nothing was going to come from that knowledge. It’s not even like he talked
To zurmani or his therapist about it.. it was a quick line in a journal entry and that’s it.

An EXCELLENT series 🥹‼️The BBs journey: dismal*disappointments*discarded*discovery…Restoration 3x‼️Goodness knows though, the road wasn’t easy for these Baxter County brothers: Jawaan*Kyce* Kayshon, I celebrate their milestones‼️…Thereafter, their road of despair, heartbreak & trials was cruel & arduous‼️However, I commend Author Baxter for her perseverance to convey, relive the emotional trauma & stigma while maintaining the integrity of each “Baxter Brothers” character’s story from their recollection & personal experience 😮‍💨. Triumphantly, these impressionable young boys became community pillars, outstanding citizens, entrepreneurs, husbands, fathers, family oriented men of faith & survivors in spite of their horrific childhood experiences. “Counting His Heartbeats (The Baxter County Blues) - Book 3 & final book of this series was an emotional journey watching these three men navigate their individual & collective traumas of abuse, neglect & abandonment. Nevertheless, everything has a season….weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning‼️…restored all their young hearts were deprived & just "love me like I deserve to be loved." Granted 3x👏🏿👏🏾👏🏽🥰🥲‼️

Counting His Heartbeats (Baxter County Blues Book 3)

This book is so good. Riley Baxter, you are truly a gift from God. Baby girl, the Lord is definitely your Shepherd. He has blessed you to bless others with the pen.

Juwann is and was truly blessed to meet Zurmani. They both needed each other to heal and to love. This series sheds light on the traumatic situations that foster kids endure. It is sad to see, hear, and believe some of the things that happen. Not all children experience this type of trauma, but for the ones that do, seek God because that is truly where your help cometh from.

I love Kyce, Kayshon, and Juwann. Their lives are a true testament to God's understanding and unchanging love. I know this is a book of fictional characters and situations, but it is also a beautiful blessing.

Thank you Riley Baxter for crafting such a beautiful series. You are the G.O.A.T. Whoever says otherwise is full of it. Your loved ones that you lost are very proud of you.... believe that!

Perfect Finale!

I knew Jawann's story was going to hit me, but y'all I was literally in public trying to hold back tears. I know if anyone looked at me they were deeply concerned. Zurmani was indeed J's rib, the woman made especially for him. Seriously, by the end of the book, I was making a new gospel playlist. I'm so grateful that these men didn't allow the circumstances of life to keep them from having a relationship with God, finding success, realizing they needed therapy and being better men for the women God placed in their paths. With all the new additions, I'm going to need a holiday book or all the babies first birthday! Such an amazing series that was heavy, lighthearted, and inspirational. Just be mindful of the cw because like I said, all the books get heavy, but so worth the read. Rema and her girl went out bad, but you can't feel sorry for predators! Happy Reading Y'all!💋

Emotional Rollercoaster

What a ride. I enjoyed Jawaan and Zumani’s tale. There were so many layers to process from both characters. In fact, I wasn’t sure if I was ready for it to end. Jawaan was battling with some real abandonment issues caused by the Youngs and extreme trauma from Rema, Humphrey, and the Spiveys. I lowkey felt like he needed to be on Letitia’s sofa a bit longer. He and Zurmani needed to have more deep conversations because he didn’t really give her all the details regarding the extent of his fear of abandonment. Plus, the whole connection to Jamaica was wild. I expected more from that. Then Zurmani’s story’s was just as traumatic. While I don’t feel that her trifling ex deserved much from her, I felt like he needed a good ol cursing out for what he did. Even with all that, I enjoyed this series. I can’t wait to read what’s next!

Jawaan and Zurmani!!

In the second book of the series, I was left wondering what was going on with Jawaan. I never expected the jaw-dropping event that took place in the prologue. I was glad when Jawaan wasn't afraid to reach out for help spirituality and mentally. Everything that happened for Jawaan was God ordained even his meeting Zurmani. Zurmani was part of his healing process as well as the surprise he and Zurmani received at the hospital. I loved how Jawaan and Zurmani helped each other heal from the pain that both of them were going through. The twist involving Jamaica, one of Zurmani's best friends, and Jawaan was something that I never saw coming, and I was surprised it was never revealed. This book was a really great ending of the series that you need to read because these books will surely give you a blessing.

Jawaan and Zumani, God Has His Hands On You

An AMAZING and AMAZINGLY, beautifully written story!!!…I enjoyed this book from the 1st page to the very last page!!!…Although my heart broke as I took this journey with Jawaan, my heart is so full seeing him as he healed, loved on a child who lost his mother and beautifully disrupt the life of a woman who was also struggling with a loss!!!…
Zurmani was a PERCECT fit for this imperfect man and she had the loving family to also embrace him!!!…I love that a mother, who knew her time on earth was drawing down and decided to make 2 ppl that were simply trying to heal, trust them to love and care for one of God’s Angels!!!…
The devils that hurt children all met their fiery calling!!!…
I truly wanted to know what became of Zurmani’s friend Jamaica, because she was good no through it!!!…

When you reach the end of the road and there is two paths which one do you choose
Ms Riley through her words and characters help us to understand that while it may seem like we are in a dark tunnel there is light at the end
We have to hold on and wait for the deliverance is just around the corner
In all three books the deliverance was through females that was prepared for the brothers to help them navigate through their childhood trauma to a love and happiness they never dreamed could be theirs
Great job Riley continue to allow your Savior to guide your pen and bring us beautiful stories that give hope and joy

Truth, Triumph, and Love's Treasures

Whoo! This book is a Pandora's Box of life throwing curve balls with a couple destined for each other. Their meetings are true treats and treasure with faith , experiences and one unexpected bundle of love. My emotions were sailing from sadness, tear of hurt to tears of joy, but surprisingly gut wrenching laughs at the humor and silliness of Jawaan ,Zurmani, and families. If faith and good church was a love song Counting His Heartbeats would be title.
Five stars ⭐ for Riley Baxter's latest.😊

When God says yes.

This entire series, I feel, is about the grace of God and truly overcoming life's hurdles. Jawaan and his brothers suffered as children. Zurmani says what is on her mind and takes no prisoners. I like their first meeting. I love that she was able to become whole herself. She was patient and supportive of Jawaan, and he worked to overcome his trauma. They had a great support system. This was a wonderful series. I would recommend it. Kudos to the author; she handled this subject delicately. Fantastic job! It was a pleasure reading this series. 🥰

Thank You!!

I needed to see that detestable human leave the bookverse and never touch another soul! Ugh.
Now, like the first two books, 💔 trauma for these men and women. Little Man and his mother 💔💔 and that letter 😭😭😭😭
Jawaan was one character I wanted to see win, with all the traumatic memories of his childhood, I needed him to get the best and biggest blessing 💙🩵
Zurmani, girl, once you spoke the internal thoughts out loud, you were a goner. And that cafeteria scene cemented it.
So… her friends… and brother…. 🤔🤔🤔 maybe a novella or sumn 😂
HEA and no cheating MMC and FMC.

Counting His heartbeats (Baxter County Blues Book 3)

This book was a Good Read because it was an encouragement to whoever read it because it gave awesome Biblical quotes. The author penmanship was uplifting and what a beautiful love story these three brothers found through the beautiful women. The sexual abuse they went through while in the foster system was horrific but many of the afflictions of the righteous but God delivers us through them all.

Heavy but well written

Review is of audiobook.

I really enjoyed this series. It dealt with some hard subject matter, especially this third book. I love the way the author balanced the heaviness with religious aspects and comedy. The ending that's desciwhat happened to their foster parent had me choking on my breakfast t was so funny. This was a well written book and series.

I was hesitant about the narrators, however they grew on me.

I've been waiting on Jawaan Young story. It was so heartbreaking. He went through it. I realize why he was so funny, he was masking so much pain he endured in his past. By the grace of GOD he's still here. The love of Zurmani helped his heart to continue to beat. An awesome read. A fantastic ending to a great series!!❤️

AMAZING

This book was AMAZING!! It touched on subjects that most men will never admit to or search for help, just like the first two. I enjoyed all of them, but something about J’s story really touched me. I was hooked from the first paragraph to the last!! Out of all the pain, he still kept me laughing and found JOY!!

I cried my eyes out. I was also laughing with tears in my eyes. This book was definitely different from the first two as it focused on Jawan and his love interest About 75%. But it was really well written . I love that she sends her characters to CHURCH, THERAPY. But also showing them being comfortable communicating with their mates.

Saving the best for last

This final book of the 3 Brothers Was the cherry on top, it definitely had emotion but the humor was a good balance. The therapist had her hands with Mr. Young. The family dynamics for each of them was rough in the beginning but only God knows how our life chapters will be written. They all deserved their wives and the peace that they now have.

His Heartbeat 💝

This was such a good series. Those young men went through a lot. I was so that they got to each share the own stories. Jawaan for him to hear his birth mother taking her husband side is crazy. For him to know who his sister is but wants to keep that to himself. Zurmani was what he needed.

Patients

The amount of patience it took for me to read the madness that happened in Jawaan’s life was admirable. The way that women did him warranted her ending. Jawaan was on Zurmani from jump, the way the lord was leading these two spoke volumes. Very good read and beautiful ending to this series.

If you’ve made it this far in the series then you already know that this book deals with some heavy issues. I wanted this to be a lot longer so that Jawaan could get the help and healing that was needed. I was yelling for Zurmani to run! Jawaan has a lot to work on and adding this relationship without healing seemed rushed. The amount of secrets that he is hiding from her is diabolical.
